I hope you guys watch Alien Resurrection as well before diving into Prometheus and Covenant. Heck, even the AvP movies are good fun. :)

Nathan Jasper

Hilarious thumbnail! Great work :)

Twisty Twitties

I dont care what anyone says i really enjoyed this one, nowhere near the quality of the first 2 but still a fun watch

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

For what it’s worth this movie to me has the “money shot” (so to speak) for what first drew me to Alien films. Seeing it as a thumbnail hits me in the lol’s harder than I thought it would haha. Great as always

Inkpendude

You guys can definitely watch Romulus without watching the other movies. Or Am I wrong? I feel like you can

mojo shivers

Honestly, you could skip the rest of the Alien movies till later. Romulus actually takes place between Alien and Aliens so if you watch it in chronological order instead of date of release you’d be fine. It’s kind of an interquel. However, if you do watch the others first, Romulus does have eggs for both the prequels (Prometheus and Alien: Covenant) and the sequels (Aliens 3 and Aliens Resurrection). To me, the best 3 films are those core 3–Aliens, Alien: Romulus, and Alien. I’d rank them in that order.

Arcade Sufi

I actually like Prometheus, I known it's unpopular opinion. I do think there are things in Romulus connected to it.

Arcade Sufi

The original ideas for alien 3 were absolutely wild. Much stranger than even the assembly cut. Just look up Alien 3 wooden planet.

Graham Bullman

Would have loved to have done a full watch along for this, but can't find the special edition anywhere. Not on Amazon UK as far as I can see.

neilaslayer

This movie was Far better than it was made out to be. It ended on a very sour tone. People really were pissed they killed off the survivors of the LV426 rescue. I really liked it when I was it in the theaters. It was not a happy ending, but it was a fitting ending for this grimy universe.

Mike FromOz

This movie has one of the best single lines in all cinema. "Fuck!"

Feignorance

Alien Resurrection is my favorite one.

DonkyDave

Great thumbnail!

Scott CineRam

Two movies in a row that feature actors from "The Crying Game"! Not that I'm encouraging you guys to react to that one, probably wouldn't help your numbers much.

paul rai

I would personally recommend Alien: Resurrection because it’s so batshit crazy and ridiculous that I feel it can be enjoyed on a pure B-movie level entertainment. And Sigourney is in the Resurrections film. It’s not the reason people dislike it. I think people dislike it because it essentially drops the horror element and opts to be more creature feature and has the most silliest ridiculous plot in the series. Plus, Romulus does reference a specific creature in Resurrection. But that’s just me. I feel of all 7 Alien movies there’s not a bad entry. Every film is distinctly unique and amazing with how each interprets the Alien franchise. I will say even the assembly cut of this doesn’t erase the absolute production hell this film went through. They had 10 different screenwriters and multiple directors. They even released a trailer hinting that it would take place on earth. Fincher described the experience as being sodomized by Fox for 2 years.

paul rai

Well, Romulus actually references a specific plot device in Prometheus since that is a prequel to Alien.

DonkyDave

If they were still doing CineCringe, I feel like Resurrection would be a perfect film for that!

paul rai

Prometheus is fantastic! Plus, Michael Fassbender is the absolute highlight of both Prometheus and Covenant.

paul rai

The black substance in Romulus is part of Prometheus’s narrative.

Daniel Dawson

+1 for Alien Resurrection, it's not as bad as the haters make it out to be.

Mister Forbez

I'm fairly certain in the original/theatrical release, the alien actually comes out of a dog (one of the inmates had a mutt). The alien being shown scampering around quickly on all fours illustrates the original "alien adapts from whatever it gestates within" aspect of the species. Alien: Resurrection (Alien 4) IS trash, but it's silly, sometimes enjoyable trash. Also, Sigourney Weaver came back because they realized it would be stupid to make another movie without her, and gave her all of the money to resurrect the character.

dudewheresmycar

Alien Resurrection is necessary if you're going to watch Romulus as Romulus has nods to every Alien movie that came before it. Skip the AvP movies though as they have no relation to the main franchase and Romulus rightly pretends they dont exist.

REDR58

I think my biggest problem with Alien3 is that is so perfunctorily kills off Newt and Hicks. We just go through the whole adventure of Ripley fighting like hell to keep that little girl alive, then they make it to the end and go to sleep. Then we get a kick in the teeth at the very start of the movie, all of that gets wiped away and you may ask yourself what was it all for? But sometimes that's how life works, so in some respect I really appreciate Alien3 and Fincher for being such an asshole and killing off some of our heroes so bluntly. So I both love and hate Alien3. I like it way more than Fincher does, despite the studio messing with his vision. But it's such a heart-breaker.

MrX_1985

+1 for Alien Resurrection. Not as good as the other three but still way better than what comes after it.

Jenny-gave-forrest-aids

Alien Resurrection, while cringey as fuck, and campy, may be necessary. However I think you will have a great time with what cones after, more as lore pieces than anything else, although the performances in then are so damn great. So, i will be calmly waiting for Alien Prometheus and Alien Covenant over here.

RedDaveR32

Alien Resurrection does star Siguorney Weaver. It's also written by Joss Whedon.Joss Whedon ties the Alien Universe in with the Firefly universe. It's great fun with Ron Perlman as one of my favorite characters in the film.

Monica Alarcon

I personally would say don't skip Resurrection, skip Covenant... it's not essential for Romulus

Trevor Rotan

“I want you shave your head for the movie” Sigourney: Then I want you to pay me more money.

DonkyDave

I enjoy rewatching Prometheus for the designs, visuals and one or two of the performances. The script and most of the characters are silly nonsense unfortunately!

Ricardo Alanis

Alien: Resurrection is actually a very fun watch and has some great characters and you will be surprised at how the story starts and ends. I recommend watching it for sure!

Monica Alarcon

Who from this movie is in the Crying Game? I haven't seen it in a while...

Luc Zettwoog

I've never understood the hatred that some people have for Alien Resurection. It's such a fun movie, and like all the Alien films (and what makes this saga so strong), it stands out from its predecessors thanks to its very French director, Jean-Pierre Jeunet (director of Amélie). Maybe it's the one that's aged a bit, because it has a very marked artistic direction, but personally I find it brilliant and very surprising (I'd also recommend the extended cut).

Arcade Sufi

I agree characters make dumb decisions, but I really like alot of the ideas behind Prometheus.

Scott CineRam

Ralph Brown, who played the warden's assistant Mr. Aaron, aka "85". In The Crying Game he played an ex of Dil. "Don't throw my clothes out the window!"

Michael

It’s also EXTREMELY Dark Horse coded. It could easily be an adaptation from the comics series.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

So does Tongue George need his own prescription glasses or do you just stick some Ken doll glasses to match the main head for aesthetic purposes?

droodly

The special edition synced perfectly

Mike

Alien resurrection is not a great movie, but!! You need to watch it and i need to see the reaction! Also, it does add some value to Alien Romulus with easter eggs.

Stuart Sutcliffe

I'm sure Simone and George would be interested to know, if Simone doesn't know already, that Alien Resurrection was one of the two movies (the other, Toy Story) that made Joss Whedon famous before Fox greenlit the Buffy The Vampire Slayer tv series.

Dirt_Merchant

Okay, this is the most disturbing thumbnail yet. Super gross, let's use another maybe?

Spence Lee

Don’t believe what you hear. Alien 4 rips.

Lex Kuzma

Alien Resurrection is well worth watching, while also being deeply flawed.

Matthew Blackwood

Alien Resurrection is the reason Firefly exists. It’s like Joss Whedon’s prototype. Reason enough to watch.

Digital Droo

Sorry to nitpick, but "Aliens" in the title should be singular ("Alien"). Also, seeing the thumbnail, it makes me wonder if Kung Pow: Enter the Fist needs to be watched (assuming Simone and George have not seen it yet).

maikeru

Don‘t disrespect the Georgomorph

maikeru

I‘m for not skiping any of them.

maikeru

Let me be clear about Alien 4: Tuco and Winona in an Alien movie = a good movie 🥳

megamoo chilli

I have feelings. Not happy ones. People didn't like this film because everything Ripley fought for and won in Aliens, a daughter, love interest, restored trust in synthetic life, her own personal revenge, all of it is reversed and taken away offscreen and she randomly lands in the same nightmare scenario but with different accents. If you pretend the first two films don't exist its good.

probablyKoi

I actually think this one is my least favourite because (without spoiling) Alien 4 has some definite campiness and fun and it knows it wants to be a sci-fi/action and does a passable job at it, this movie to me felt like it wanted to be a horror but didn't actually illicit many scares just because they showed the creature way too much and it never felt as imposing on the crew when it wasn't on screen. 3 and 4 are definitely both down there as the weaker entries but to me 3 seems like a cool premise but not very well done.

Twisty Twitties

Even if they have seen it, its a must have reaction vid, Betty is the all time greatest villain

Random Nevermind

Sad but true. As a standalone movie it is well done and from time to time super good. But as the part of the trilogy that is the step to a wrong direction. I still like it though.

Molly Jacobs

I feel the same way, and among those feelings is simply real world anger at the writers of this movie for killing beloved characters. But standalone, it's a pretty good movie.

Helly R

Also Speed, Twister. Hollywood would have known his script doctoring cred.

Helly R

It's very fun trash.

HeyHeyJK

I was really excited for "Alien Resurrection" because it was directed by Jean-Pierrre Jeunet who directed "Amelie" (in my top 10 favs of all time) as well as "CIty of Lost Children" (in my top 20) and "Delicatessen", both of which you guys still need to watch ASAP. Then I just didn't love the film but need to revisit it, as I do "Alien 3" because I didn't love it either but maybe I should watch the extended cut now to see how I feel. Personally, I didn't love "Alien Romulus" either but mostly for much of the script. Performances, cinematography, and practical effects were all great.

DonkyDave

The perfect organism

Arnie Cox

Simone's "My God!" is an excellent homage to Veronica Cartwright in the 1st film. Alien Res: $48 million in US+Canada, $114 million internationally. Jean-Pierre Jeunet, baby! (City of Lost Children; Amélie.) Enjoy some escargot< 3

Michael Johnson

Too bad Fincher didn't have the clout to make the movie he wanted. Directors cut is superior.

Kron0n

I love this movie. Idk why it was so hated. Has the best atmosphere of them all.

JBK405

I'm one of the ones who has an innate dislike for this film due to the Happy Ending Override for "Aliens". I'm self-aware enough to recognize that this means I can't give it a fair chance, and no matter HOW good it may be it's never going to dig out of that hole for me. There are some great ideas in here. I don't think this film invented the idea that the xenomorphs take on characteristics from their hosts -- I think that was in a comic first? -- but it made the idea "official" by incorporating it. And the idea of the prison planet certainly is a twist. But I still shake my head and say they should have left well enough alone. For me, "Alien" and "Aliens" form a duology all on their own. The rest of the films are unnecessary fill-in.

Jon

I totally get where you're coming from. I will say though that even though I too prefer to pretend this one doesn't exist, I will give it credit in that I think in a lot of ways this one does seem to "make sense" with all the world building from the first and second movie. I'd also say this is a prime example of a studio getting ahead of itself and a very good example of why I'd like for directors to have more control over their movies, but unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime soon.

JoeNotCharles

Even just from the clips I can tell that this is significantly better than the original version, which is all I've watched. I still think I wouldn't like it as much as Resurrection, though - the atmosphere just doesn't hit for me. It was an interesting idea to set it in a dry, bright/hot/dusty setting instead of the damp, dark, organic feeling tunnels of the first two, so the alien's extreme wetness contrasts instead of blending in. But I thought it ended up making the alien feel less threatening since the environment was against it. The first two were scary because the alien seemed like part of the environment. Also, while some of the acting was great, the tone was just too nihilistic for me, and the Assembly Cut doesn't seem to have changed that. Resurrection wasn't nearly as good as the first two, and it's very uneven, but it had some really great surreal moments.

Logan Kerlee

lmao, love how it's mistitled on here despite the box art showing that it's Alien 3, not Aliens 3. xD

Dan Holmes

here are your remaining alien films: Alien 4: Resurrection AVP: Aliens vs Predator AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem Prometheus Covenant Romulus

TomGas2025

This may sound weird but Weavers short bald phase made me have such a crush on her as a teenager...

Nathan Jasper

I deeply disliked the complete reversal, having Newt die immediately after everything Ripley went through to save her in the previous film. It's the equivalent of, like if they had John Wick remarry and his new wife dies too. I've read this film wasn't completely Fincher's fault, and mostly the studio's, so I can't completely be upset with him for this film.
