Underworld - Patreon Version

Odd Thomas

All the ingredients were there but by god is the writing awful. I liked the one with her daughter though (no.5?)

JayF

Working at an animal sanctuary, specifically in the cat area, most of my friends want to hear about my cat and the cats I work with.

Drew

Pretty sure the big werewolf is the writer(co-writer?)

Michael Stutsman

Man off to find the theatrical. Only have the Blu-ray with the unrated 2hr13min one

Drew

I was dealing with the same thing. I could only find the extended version on Amazon Fire stick, but the theatrical length was on the Amazon Prime app, so I rented it thinking it would hop to my Fire stick. When I opened Fire back up, it was the extended. I guess I’ll just have to keep my eye on both the react and movie, and pause and jump as needed

gurz

Or just stop giving Amazon money and torrent the movie for free where the correct version is available. Trust me, Bezos is doing fine without you guys buying an old movie, which they don't even provide the correct version.

Odd Thomas

Adults who have a baby photo as their profile photo, ugh. You're 38 years old Jessica, not 38 days. And you have hair.

Odd Thomas

You should watch all the Twilights together. They are Christopher Nolan films compared to Underworld.

CT

Only new to George. Bummer.

Dave van der Kuyp

Ah damn. Theatrical version is unfindable in my country. Too bad. Even through the 'aargh' way.

Poddington

I couldn't get the site to show just the theatrical, but at the bottom are technical specs of the 3 torrents you can choose from. Two are the theatrical and one is for the extended. Makes it easier to see which one you want without guessing.

gurz

i just want to take a moment and appreciate the thumbnail frame the video is set to. just looks like George told a dirty joke and Simone is telling him off.

REDR58

I’ve noticed that’s been a problem with other movies on Amazon.

Drew

Turns out the Amazon “2hr13min” cut was correct, it actually played 2hr1min

This Hon

You did not say if it's a extended version... 😕

Kevin Grevious (Raze) is a co-creator of the Underworld series. He has a degree in microbiology from Howard University in Washington D.C. He has written comics for both DC and Marvel and is a comic book collector. There is a game called Flintlock: Siege of Dawn coming out this year, and he will be voice-acting in it. Jeez.... All that and a voice that makes women's panties crack concrete.... what a man. Talk about unattainable standards! George - Yes. Yes you do want to watch Underworld Evolution. No poll. Straight to the sequel. Trust us on this. I do remember an interview ... I can't remember if it was with Beckinsale or Len Wiseman... but they were viewing some footage of Selene in her tight leather pants and corset from behind entering the mansion, and Wisemen told Kate "That footage is going to be in the trailer, and there's nothing we are going to be able to do about it." Something along those lines.

D. T. Nelson

Also, Marcus was just woken up by the blood of a lycan, and Viktor pointed out that Marcus is a descendant of the Corvinus line. SO, a vampire, with Corvinus blood, who has now consumed lycan blood. Can anyone say "New Hybrid". (Which is what was suggested by the black eyes in the last shot). The movie itself is a kind of hybrid. Vampires vs warewolves like Twilight, the weapons of Blade, and the style of The Matrix.

I was assuming (and frustrated) that its not (again). Just going by the time, mine is 2:13ish, so 10+ mins longer) They have been doing that alot more lately, apparently because it's what's most available on streaming?! I am re-watching old movies with online people, not trying to re-buy/rent movie... I can only assume it somehow makes their workflow easier, so I haven't mentioned it, but it has bitten me with multiple movies in last month or two, that's way more than the previous ~30 months together.. anyway trying to download the right version now (while my popcorn gets cold, boo hoo) 😢🥲😂

pinkdino99

Yeah... I'd check the rankings before going further.

Shane Driscoll

Even though it's kind of silly, I really liked the scene where Erika leapt up to the ceiling and started hissing after she saw Michael's werewolf. It was cool bit of world-building to show that Vampires and Werewolves have been killing each other for so long that they have an instinctual fight-or-flight reaction whenever they cross paths.

Skyruff

some possible answers... 1) think of it like this... necklace - thin leather, string, or metal that encircles the neck. Items that hang from necklaces or other adornments are pendants. An amulet is a small piece of statuette or jewelry that is believed to have a mystical power. 2) Vampire (like) and werewolf (like) tales mixed in Europe in the middle ages. 3) there is a long history of Vampire like creatures back to pre-history. But the modern vampire or even the word did not start until the 1800s in literary works. As with most works of the 1800s there was a large hint toward the sexual. Once films joined the topic, they focused on this as a theme making vampires more and more sexual as time passed.

beefjerkywizard

I have a crazy idea. You two should do a Buffy watch. That way you both can point out actors from that show. Sounds like a win win

Philipp Roensch

Ah yes, also have the 12 minutes longer Blu-Ray here, has the same changes in coloring and flashbacks, but a few longer scenes. Not missed much for you, it just explains and foreshadows a bit better and a naughty sexy scene with Kraven and Erika :D. This whole series has always been among my favorites, young and impressionable by leather costumes as I was. I love the style and rule of cool applied here, and that the dramatic plot takes itself serious enough while having fun. I can totally recommend watching 2 and 3 as well, the other dip in quality but somewhat spin the story further. I would also recommend the Behind the Scenes, they are up there with LotR in detail and seeing passionate creators work on practical effects. A bit about vampire lore/s: There is, as always, not just one lore, but many origins. For a long time, they even were the general undead, bloated and diseased corpses, before zombies. Then, royals and cruel rulers were deemed vampire for their bloodlust. Popular novels in the 18 hundreds: "The Vampyre" John Polidori, "Dracula" by Bram Stoker and Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla" already feature alluring, sophisticated and noble vampires. So ever since they became a popular thing, they have been rich and sexy. I've actually read Dracula, it is a deeply misogynistic and horny book^^. The myths were often used to excuse men's behavior, and better to blame the sexy vampire and not the abusive family.

FranciscoGios

I really thought that was George’s friend’s cat. Simone might had mentioned her cat’s name but that was centuries ago.

Mike Adams

The prequel, Rise of the Lycans, is probably my favorite in the series.

Harry Fieldson

Re: the intro, one of my favourite memes ever is that twilight scene but they're dressed like they're from Tennessee and it says "I reckon this is the skin of a no-good feller, Beller"

Simone's Coconut Squire

So after uncountable viewings of this movie, this was the first time I ever noticed that Kraven blows it and gives himself away early in the movie. In one of the early scenes between Selene and Kraven, before Selene knows Lucian is still alive and shortly after she realizes the Lycans were stalking a human, Kraven is trying to dissuade her, he says something like "Lucian would have no reason to want a human" instead of "The lycans would..." exposing the fact that he knows that Lucian is alive and leading the lycans.

Simone's Coconut Squire

For me the original is still the best, but Rise is a VERY close second, and FAR better than most of the sequels, which I found kinda forgettable.

djKENTO

so the giant black guy with the deep voice? That’s Kevin Grevioux and that’s his real voice and he wrote the movie.

Cory Garron

I hadn't seen this movie in forever, but what a perfect movie for a November Sunday evening in Canada. The weather was worse in this movie than in reality. Also, I knew going in that George was going to love the lore of this movie.

JarHead0351

Who stated she was a kid while she got turned? She lived with her family, father & sister & sister's daughter. Never stated she was a kid at the time. George had a smile thru out the whole movie - safe to say they going to watch all of them - can't wait

Cory Garron

Simone recognizes Wentworth Miller from his tiny role in one buffy episode (2.20 Go Fish) and not his co-lead role in Prison Break.

Farbod

Vampires dont age once turned in the Underworld universe. Selene was 19 when Victor turned her so she stayed 19. She wasn't a small child. Also his name is Kraven with a K, which is a Dutch/German name from old norse.

djKENTO

Also Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen were not big actors in 2003 so killing them off was not a big deal at the time. It’s only now 20 years later that you know they’re big.

RLYtoxic

They are all worth watching.

Vwlss Nvwls

George, it is okay if you feel uncomfortable looking at pictures of peoples kids or pets, but it comes down to is how much tolerance you can have to allow them to do something they feel proud of. True, some people get carried away with it, but keep that in mind when new parents show you baby photos it is not just that they are so happy about it, but also that they may just be happy to have some time with other adults.

Vwlss Nvwls

My ex-wife and I saw this in the theater. It was a really fun time. We also saw the sequel in the theater, and enjoyed it as well. Never saw any but the first two.

Vwlss Nvwls

I do not know for sure, but my guess would be the first vampire movie after Nosferatu is when they were portrayed in a sexual manner. Because they were supposed to have the ability to seduce and control minds of their prey, so making them attractive helped audiences with that. That is just my guess. And also, if you ever get a chance you should check out the 1922 Nosferatu. It is a great film, and has some amazing effects for the time. Not to mention just a truly iconic film.

Vwlss Nvwls

I feel the same way about love stories in movies where they do not belong. It always pulls me out of the story.

Vwlss Nvwls

I do not think Saleen was young when she was turned, because she mention that her nieces had been killed. So she might have been in her early twenties when she was turned. Also the fact that Kraven mentions Viktor could not kill her because she reminded him of his daughter, who was a young adult when killed.

Gary Fixler

George mentioned the Matrix style back in the day. Omg, yes. I work in games, and I've never seen anything take over minds like that. Every meeting across a few companies for a few years mentioned it. A producer would say "Our next game is going to be dark and gritty. Think The Matrix meets [whatever]." Game designers would say "we're going with a Matrix-style [whatever] for this bit." Art concepts for everything looked like they were out of Art Of books for The Matrix. It was so everywhere, across games, TV, and movies, for a while there, that I almost started to not like the Matrix, just because I was tired of hearing references to it. I remember being in a meeting with some higher up talking about something, and I felt it coming, so I looked at my coworker across the boardroom table and mouthed "The Matrix," and seconds later the guy said "You know, like in The Matrix." We both had to stifle laughs. I never really noticed it go away. It just sort of faded into other things eventually.

maxthesilent

trying to find a reasonably-sized theatrical version is akin to finding a needle in a haystack

Amar

George is spot on with the baby pictures. Unless you ask to see more please don't show me more than two pictures. I just say cute and turn my head to talk to someone else, just get out of the convo. "Cute she is so small, hey john how is work mate" You are out George lol I kinda feel bad too now but it's honest.

Noel Valdez

You guys should watch Nightcrawler. Really good thriller. Also it is hard for me to watch these films and not laugh cause the dress style just reminds of some really weird dudes I went to highschool with and creeped me out. I can barley watch The Matrix without finding it goofy. But the movie is so good it outweighs that for me. With these I have to pass I can get into this. Much love to anyone that loves this stuff though. Just not for me.

REDR58

Well vampires are probably just inherently sexual from the beginning, mixing of bodily fluids, etc.

REDR58

First time watch for me. Kate Beckinsall in her costume is definitely the part of this movie. Her instagram is pretty funny and worth a follow. She looks amazing still, indeed. George, you didn’t get the vaguely Eastern European setting when watching this? It stood out to me pretty quickly, despite having never been to Eastern Europe and this movie was in fact filmed in Hungary. The police cars were another hint because police departments in North America do not generally use Mercedes as patrol cars. 😄 I suppose there might be places in Montreal that look somewhat European, as in a number of other cities. Also George, you mentioned Skrim a lot, have you played “Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind”? The base game has vampires and the player can contract vampirism if bitten and not treated within 3 days. The game has 2 expansions, “Tribunal” and “Blood Moon” which adds werewolves and it is possible to become a vampire/werewolf hybrid with some work. Anyway, fun reaction!

Andrew Hussey

The first I want to say 3, are pretty fun, as the series goes on it gets weaker and weaker but I remember 2 and the prequel at least , the rise of the lycans, being great fun, worth a watch, part 2 for sure goes lock stock and top smoking barrela into the mythos

Casey Dixon

I highly recommend watching the sequel Underworld Evolution "more Underworld lore given" and the prequel Underworld Rise of The Lycans "more Underworld lore given and more Michael Sheen"

Trevor S Bright

Selene got turned when she was like 20. She said she and her sister were living with their parents, but also her nieces...meaning they were probably her sister's daughters.

Trevor S Bright

I think vampires have almost always been somewhat sexy, at least as far back as 19th century with the "Dracula" novel and other vampire novels prior to it. Dracula as a character in general has always been a dark seductor. As for vampire/werewolf crossover...the 1st instance as far as I know came from the very 1st Cinematic Universe: the Universal Monsters!!! In the 30s/40s, Universal Studios made many "Universal Monster" movies like "The Creature from the Black Lagoon", "The Invisible Man", "The Mummy", or "The Phantom of the Opera", all of which had sequels. But 3 of these franchises actually crossed over: "Dracula", "The Wolf Man" & "Frankenstein". Universal tried many times to make a new modern "Universal Monsters" cinematic universe, including "Van Helsing" and the so called "Dark Universe" which died as soon as their 1st movie, the God awful 2017 "The Mummy" with Tom Cruise. But Universal still has some decent "Dracula" remakes over the years, plus the 1999 "The Mummy" remake, the 2010 "The Wolf Man" remake, and I hear good things about the recent "The Invisible Man" remake from a few years ago plus a new "The Wolf Man" remake coming out in a few months.

Trevor S Bright

There probably is a slow aging factor for pure-blood vampires like Viktor's daughter Sonja. As for your Wolverine comparison George, since Mutant powers usually don't appear until puberty and/or adolescence, which is what happened to James Howlett aka Logan if you recall in "Origins", who went on to fight in the American Civil War in that awesome opening. That probably meant he did age to an adult in his prime and stayed that way for decades until he got near the 200 year old mark when he finally got gray in his hair in "Days of Future Past"...although comic book Logan is actually a few decades younger than movie Logan (movie Logan getting his claws in like the 1840s or 50s, when comic Logan did so in like 1870s or 80s).

Jennifer Tremblay

Rise of the Lycans is one of my favourites in the series. It's so good! And Michael Sheen is perfection in it.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Universal did all kinds of crossovers in the Classic era. House of Dracula was the first film to see vampires and werewolves in the same film which was in 1945. Dracula Meets the Wolf Man was a 1965 short that paid homage to the monster movies of the 30s/40s. As far as the sexy factor goes, I don't care what people say, Bela Lugosi's Dracula was damn sexy. All he needed was some well-placed lighting to be alluring.

Jay Perry

There is now a fifth movie "Underworld: Blood Wars." You gotta react to that one.
