The ending felt a little rushed to me, but overall its one of the best shows i have ever seen.

Da Big Appa

Waxillium, I get that reference! :)

Good 2nd season, especially the first arc, but episodes 4 - 9 felt really overstuffed. I know the people making Arcane didn't want to try and drag it out, but it seemed like there was more then enough here for another season. Lot of sudden changes to characters allegences and motivations, while others were left with little to nothing to do over the last few episodes. Still enjoyable, but really can't help feeling a bit unsatisfied at the end

BigHatMatt

Wish this season was anywhere near as good as the first. The art was generally nice, but the storytelling really fell off.

If you really want a negative shoe drop for ep 7...Powder has the crystals from the heist, but never obtained Jayce's notes. Now she has both, and everyone telling her to fulfill her potential.

1 - As noted elsewhere Jinx is likely still alive, I wanted to add one other item though. Powder's first spoken line in the entire series is "One day I'm going to ride on one of those things". When she says this she is looking at the exact same airship shown at the end of the season. I think they wanted it both ways because Jinx is an excellent POV character for some other locations they may want to explore in future series (and also the Jinx+Lux fandom is large). 2 - I lowkey hate some parts of how they treated Viktor. A lot of what he does makes sense with the line of events but is inconsistent with the ideals they have him speak aloud. If he were truly uniting humanity in his glorious evolution they would not be minds slaved to his will but the will of the collective would be acting through him. Instead clearly all of the endgame is a product of his personal trauma being killed by the man he loves. Also for some reason ethical transhumanism is something no writer can envision, it always has to be evil. 3 - The region combination I would most like to see is Shurima and specifically the story of the friendship between Kai'Sah and Taliah. I think there's too much groundwork that needs to be laid for that story though so I expect next we will get Noxus/Demacia or even Ionia/Noxus especially since we have Mel as a POV character in Noxus now. Also the crow with three eyes is tied to a Noxian champion and is one of the last reveals in the series.

If you pause right when Maddie fires, you see a slasher smile because Mel is activating her magic and can, therefore, sense her inner feelings

There are a ton of critiques but I just to say this was a beautiful show and they did a brilliant job with season 2.

Hercule Pyro

Ahh I loved this season, felt way more hooked waiting for each ep than I did s1.

ShadowStunts

I personally think season 2 is the best any animated show has ever been. Far superior to season 1 and I think most people who are saying it's "rushed" don't really think about it too much. Because when you actually look into the pacing it's as good as it possibly can be. Absolutely 0 filler and a storyline that is so compact and well written that each moment feels impactful whilst juggling so many different plotlines. I just think people are not used to shows being this well written and to the point that they think it must be rushed because why else does no one make shows like this. When in reality it's that the arcane crew are just so incredibly talented and make other shows look like amateurs.

Ari Ramirez

Kinda disappointed in the ending, I think it had the Game of Thrones issue of needing to get to a big war ending without properly setting it up. They should've focused more on building that final conflict, Vander's resurrection and Jinx's sacrifice. That being said, unlike GoT, there's spectacle here, and it's one of the most beautiful pieces of animation I've ever seen. I can respect them for doing what they could with what they had, but in my view, plot-wise they didn't stick the landing. I hope they do more and I'll be there when they do. Also, for what it's worth, yordles like Heimerdinger are immortal, so don't be too sad about him poofing out of existence

ShadowStunts

I think the first season was rather basic and I much prefer the second one. They dared to tell an incredibly vast story in just 9 episodes and they did it phenomenally well. On top of the story being better and more intriguing in the second season the animation was also 100x better than the first season. A step up in every way

BigHatMatt

Can agree to disagree, as I felt the writing this season was incredibly shallow and basic. The rush towards a climax that was very sparsely built up, the unearned character developments, and the overall reliance on emotion over substance really mad this season shallow to me. Season 1 was a masterpiece, season 2 was just ok at best.

ShadowStunts

Don't get me wrong I love season 1 too but I think this season is just better in every way. I think why I love the writing even more in this season is because not everything is talked about like how in the first season a couple of the episodes would drag on way too long with pointless dialogue heavy scenes just to set up something else. Instead in season 2 they cut absolutely every piece of filler and instead made it so you have to read between the lines and piece together the quite obvious hints they give you. But there is no hand holding and it's so much more fast paced that I can understand if people get a bit lost in it but when you rewatch it and pay attention to the details there really isn't a single criticism I have. Everything works out in such a perfect way and I just think we are so unused to seeing shows done in such a way that it feels wrong. Even though it definitely isn't. I think if they split this season into 2 they would've just done so to add a bunch of filler and this season wouldn't be nearly as well recieved as it was. The highest rated season of a tv show ever on IMDB. Which is rare since everything nowadays gets review bombed. Not even Breaking Bad reached this level of ratings.

BigHatMatt

Again we have to agree to disagree. What you say about showing not telling was very prevalent in S1 as well, I don't think there was much if any wasted time over unneeded dialogue in S1. I think in S2 even with "filling in" stuff ourselves the plot points are very shallow, things are very contrived, characters act in ways that are very kitschy and overly simple/stupid, and overall they did not do a good job at writing a compelling season. Too many conveniences such as Vi being able to teleport up to get Jayce's hammer in the attack at the ceremony, miraculously getting keys from a random guard she runs into, and teleporting back to make any sort of difference in a fight that would be over in the time it should have taken her. To many instances of characters acting against logic, reason, or their own previously set up morals, such as Caitlyn's breakneck race to commit war crimes through use of the gas. Which even though not shown, would have reached many underserving civilians in they way they used it, and Vi is just ok with all this? Even worse when Vi gets freed by Caitlyn later on in the cell, chooses to have sex, instead of looking for Jinx. Even if she imagines she is too late to stop Jinx from whatever horrible/depressed act she is off to commit, there is NOTHING that should stop her from still looking to make sure she is truly to late to stop it. Why does no-one from Piltover start spreading propaganda that Jinx killed Silco? Both Vi and Caitlyn know she did, and that means either the did not share this, or they are too stupid to realize how effective a tool that would be to lower Zaun's heroic portrayal of Jinx. Why is Isha the only one to realize to take the hextech gem, when both Vi and Jinx are ready to leave them behind in the gauntlets. It is VERY stupid of them to leave such a precious item behind, even if they choose to relinquish their weapons. I can go on, and on. Too many times I was left sighing about how stupid the characters acted, when they were shown to be smarter in a previous season. This is all a result of a rushed production, a want to get everything in one more short season, and too many plot points happen to due lazy writing and contrivances. Ratings on IMDB are useless to me, as I do no form any opinion based on what others think, that is a silly thing especially when most of the websites nowadays remove negative reviews. Review bombing sure is a thing at times, but it goes both ways positive and negative. The rub is they don't often crackdown on positive review bombing either. When people hear criticisms about something they like, they may end up giving something a 10/10 (or w.e in maxed) to compensate, rather than a more measured review. This season had too many things done in a shallow way for me to like it. If you did that's cool. But to me this season is a 6/10 at best, and that stems from a lot of goodwill set up by S1 for me.

ShadowStunts

I'll break down each point from top to bottom. The part with Vi getting the hammer takes a total of 3 minutes in the episode. From her leaving the battle to bumping into the security guard where they clearly show the keys and door to the room where Jayce's hammer is and then going back down is more than enough to show her getting the hammer. any longer and the battle would've been dragged on for a lot longer and for what? So we can see a pointless 1 minute scene of Vi talking to the guard and opening a door, stuff like this is exactly what I'm talking about when I say they cut filler. Completely pointless and every indication of what's going on is clear as day for all to see. Caitlyn does all of the bad things in this season because of her mom dying and being too young to be a leader but she is pushed into it by literally everyone (even before Ambessa). So I don't think she cared much at all about who she was affecting as long as she got Jinx which is awful ofc but a big part of this entire show is how hurt characters keep hurting others. When it comes to the sex scene I personally don't have any issues with it both because Vi has chosen to let her sister do what she wants and not stop her and also because of how emotional she must've felt in that moment it's not hard to believe at all that something like that would happen. I think you forget that Silco was not that beloved and most regular people in the undercity hated him and what he did. The chembarons and other criminals are the only ones that would be affected by it and it would be in a good way because of the power vacuum. They left them in the weapons because they agreed on not taking any weapons in and Jinx even went back on that later when she told Isha to go get them which we literally see in the show. She would've taken them in herself straight away but she would've been noticed. I completely disagree that it felt rushed and taking 3 years for 9 episodes is far too long. The only reason it took that long is because they wanted to perfect every aspect of the season. You clearly don't know much about rating sites and especially IMDB if you think they remove ratings. Practically every disney, lucasfilms and a couple other studios projects have all consistently been mass downvoted throughout the whole year and still have all of those votes up on the sites. Not a single major rating site does anything to protect against bad actors, most are even bad at it when it comes to the supposed "critics" too. Especially sites like rotten tomatoes. So my point is that in a climate this hateful where everyone loves to brigade things they don't like it's pretty clear that for Arcane that is the most unpopular stance. Obviously I'm not stating that being in the minority makes someone wrong but I think it just goes to show to me that most people including myself feel that the second season was much better. I'm not here to guess why it didn't personally click for you and I didn't really get much more insight from your comment. And I had no clue people disliked this season until I went to more niche corners of the internet. I reviewed this show in length before I ever read what others were saying and so far every "criticism" I've seen of the show is just people repeating the same things, it was rushed, too much happening. But I've never actually seen anyone give any real substantial points that lead me to see that at all. Since it's such a small group of people who do dislike it my personal conclusion is it's much more likely it just didn't click for certain people. They definitely did change the way they wrote from the first season but in a good way I believe. So I can understand why some people would feel differently about this season. And I'm not here to hate on you or your opinion but I've seen similar ones and never much to back them up. And in a time where so many people want to be different and not like popular things it's hard to see who is being geniune and who isn't. (Again not accusing you of anything). I just still got no clue why people don't love it like I and most others do. More than anything I'm just baffled and would love to understand it but I haven't met someone able to explain it yet.

BigHatMatt

You miss a lot of points here, or just simply are blinded by your own enjoyment of the show to even entertain them. The Vi time issue is not because of runtime of minutes in the episode... I'm talking about the in world time it would take for her to accomplish that task makes it impossible to do in the time she did it without capabilities she does not possess. She would need teleportation/super speed/rocket boots SOEMTHING to make her scale walls or go faster. It makes no sense how she is able to accomplish it, other than the fact the writers liked the idea of her getting the weapon. The weapons were left, Jinx took her gem, but Vi left the gems inside the gloves and it should NOT have been Isha who takes it out. Vi should have known better she knows exactly how dangerous and valuable the gems are, and knows many would kill to get their hands on them. The only reason they made Isha do it was the completely contrived plot point of her sacrifice... which also meant nothing in the end. The sex scene is completely wrong on many different levels for where the characters should be priority wise, both for Vi and Caitlyn. This season was poorly written and any amount of explaining on your end will not make it better. The art was nice, and those swayed by roller coaster emotions will enjoy it. I did not. You seem to be immune to anyone being able to explain it to you because you refuse to see what others see. Thats fine, that's your choice to do so, but that doesn't change how many people see this season as terribly flawed.

ShadowStunts

Well I personally just think you're wrong and your arguments seem more like personal disagreements with the show rather than saying anything about the quality of the show. I understand not liking the second season since it's different from the first one and I can understand if you like slow burners it might be off putting but to say it's poorly made is just completely false imo. I'm completely open to valid criticisms about the show but everything you shared with me is things that I think are well done and I don't see it the way you do. The single part I personally didn't like was them choosing to keep Jinx alive. I think it would've made much more sense for her to actually die since it's what she clearly wanted. But I also think you should remember we exist on a very tiny corner of the internet with very vocal people. The vast majority, maybe 90-95% of the people who watched this season loved it and agree with me that it's better. I'm not saying you're wrong but I believe it's just about a difference in taste. And nothing to do with the quality of the show itself. Everyone will not love the same things and no show/movie/song will ever be made that everyone agrees on. But I personally think it's pretty disingenuous to call something bad when it's a personal conflict with the material. I have a strong dislike for Pulp Fiction for example but I would never say it's poorly made. I have no issue with people voicing their feelings about something but I've seen a big trend in the last couple years of people being so primed to be negative about things they don't vibe with. Instead of just moving on to something they like. I would love to know what shows and movies you like. If you don't feel like that though I'm fine with leaving this convo here. Sorry if things got a bit heated but I'm just very passionate about this show and the very targeted hate I've seen (not from you) has been real sad.
