Was not expecting the very first thing said in this video to be "I want chicken all the time, who am I kidding" but I suddenly feel very seen.

If I remember correctly, episode names usually have 2 meanings, both applying to the A plot and the B plot.

Happy Christmas eve everyone! :)

a good solid metal detector will cost you around $250 and they top out at around $600

Mike ended up helping Price because he had a feeling that the lady from group husband got killed by Hector for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Occasion-related default messages to all of you!

Jeff K.

And at the same time, I can't believe I'm only just now realizing why Mike was so willing to offer Nacho some advice on how to get away with his plan for Hector. It's because once Nacho starts talking about how Hector is trying to bring his dad into it, Mike sees the inverse of what happened with him and his son. His son was a straight arrow, and it wasn't until Mike convinced him to get involved in the game that he wound up getting murdered. Nacho, on the flipside, has the straight arrow dad who Mike sees is going to be roped into the game just like Matty was, and that means there's a good chance he winds up dead. Nacho really is a very similar kind of dude to Mike, at the end of the day.

Bank fees are no joke when you're struggling to get by. I remember having to pay my bills in a certain order when I was paycheck to paycheck, and if I messed it up and the largest bill posted first, I'd end up with four overdraft fees instead of just one. Was always devisating when that happened. Anyway, Happy Holidays to all, and the customary "hang in there" message to everyone who's having a tough time rn.

Stephen Stone

USD has $1 $5 $10 $20 $50 and $100. They're all the same color, if not, it's probably either old and faded or fake. Official USD is like a paper-cloth, so if you accidentally left money in your pants and put it the laundry, it'd still be fine. Counterfeit money is typically cheaper quality and the government puts ways to tell the difference if you know what you're looking for. There's also other amounts, like a $2 bill, but they're kinda rare to come by. When I was 11, my grandma gave me a $2 for my birthday and I still have it to this day (I just turned 30 a couple weeks ago) because I've only seen 1 other one in my entire life.

myinniemademedoit

He wanted to help so he could find the Good Samaritan that found the driver after Mike robbed the truck and that Hector had killed. He wanted to find that persons body to spare their family the grief and give them the closure that the lady in group never got. It wasn’t to find her husband, her story only made Mike realize he had to power to help another family avoid a similar situation.

Mike FromOz

Merry Christmas, one and all! Today I'm off to represent the entire Cinebinge army at the buffet. I'm going to eat my weight in seafood 😋 I hope everyone enjoys themselves!

PureGonzo

The reason Mike found the body of the good samaritan was not to fuck with Hector. Rather, it was because the story that his friend from the support group told him about her husband was weighing on his mind, and Mike wanted to make sure that the good samaritan’s loved ones didn’t have to go through what his friend did.

Gus won’t take money from Mike’s family, but he will take Mike

Dustin

No, she said her husband died 8 years ago. Her story just gave him sympathy for the family of the man he inadvertently got killed.

Sergio Meira

It's interesting how, to an extent, Nacho is similar to Mike. Nacho wants to keep his dad, who is clean, away from Don Héctor's drug business, but chances are he won't be able to do it because Don Héctor wants his business as a cover for his drug operation. Mike's son Matty was clean, but out of fear that they might end up killing him for it, Mike tried (and eventually succeeded) to convince him to accept bribes and 'play the game'. Nacho hasn't succeeded yet, but will he? I think this explains a little of the grudging respect and even perhaps fondness they have for each other. They recognize each other.

Sergio Meira

What's so sad about Mike's story is that he is basically a good man -- just look at his face while he listens to that woman's story. He is doing increasingly more criminal things, he knows they're wrong, and this pains him. We can basically watch his self-hatred slowly grow, and it's just so damn heartbreaking.

Community Service for Jimmy and other people on deferred adjudication or parole from jail

Sergio Meira

Aaand by the end of Ep. 7 we get to that point in Jimmy's life at which it's not only hard for him to get anything... but it's hard for us to tell if any outburst of emotion is true or staged. Or even both?... Notice that, this time, there is no pressing need for Jimmy to do anything against Chuck. He's just... taking revenge?... Yeah, Kim feels a bit sorry for what they did to Chuck, and Chuck is so rich while Jimmy's sitting here, all broke... We've all been that broke, right? I remember eating dinners consisting of a can of tuna because there was nothing else I could afford... Is this reason enough to screw Chuck over a little over his insurance? 'I mean', Jimmy thinks, 'he taped me confessing to a felony... when all I wanted was to make him feel better, to get him out of his budding depression..."

K Murray

USD bills have not been all the same color for like 20 years. $1 bills are still the classic green, and they all still have some green, but $5 are violet, $10 are yellow, etc. I don't think that change had happened at the time this show is set though.

Actuarial Lurker

George- NO he can't give legal advice without violating his suspension

Jeff K.

Mike is basically what Walt always thought he was: a good man doing the wrong things to take care of his family. Mike actually IS, at his core, a good man who does awful, awful things, but his intent is genuine. Walt is a guy who tells himself he's a good man, but even by his own admission, even though he tells himself it's for his family (and it was at the start, but the intent evolved), it was for his own ego.

Jeff K.

Hey, I said the same thing down below, virtual high five! And yep. Mike and Nacho really are reflections of one another. They're mixed up in a dark and terrible world, but deep down they're intelligent, thoughtful, reasonable, and meticulous people who are trying to look out for their own.

Actuarial Lurker

By the way Danny who calls himself Pryce IS the same Danny we NEVER see in Breaking Bad who owns Lazer Tag and who Saul keeps saying "you need a Danny"- since he is scared and after dealing with Nacho would never rat out Walt or Jesse

Ballsac McGee

I know howard was being an asshole at the restaurant but what Kim said isn't actually correct. Chuck is mentally ill but he's not incompetent in the sense that his illness is not getting in the way of him being able to do his job. Both him and HHM were not at all hiding the nature or the extent of his condition. They always request special accommodations for Chuck, even in front of clients. So, when Kim says, "we showed the situation for what it really is", she's not really correct because they provoked that reaction out of chuck in a not ethical way. Like you're not proving a point about someone by sabotaging them and then pointing to the fact that the person you sabotaged reacted poorly to being fucked over.

Ballsac McGee

I don't think Mike is a good person at all. He desperately wants to be which is why he is moved by sob stories like the woman's and it makes him reflect but he never actually applies that change to his real life. He keeps doing bad shit even though he doesn't really need to.

Stephen Stone

I guess I haven't payed that much attention to the money over the years.

The Nap Cut is one of the best edits in film history :)

US dollars used to be all green but recently for security they have different hues, the 1$ and 2$ is still green, the 5$ has shades of purple and gray, the 10$ is orange, yellow and red, the 20$ is green and peach, the 50$ is red and blue, and the 100$ has shades of blue.

Sergio Meira

You think, MgGee? The closest I can get are the times when Mike did something so that his family would have money -- which is understandable, but they could in principle survive with less money. In other occasions, starting with convincing his son to take bribes, his motivation seems to have been to prevent people he cares about from being hurt or killed.

Sergio Meira

I see it know, virtual high five! It's a pity Patreon tends to hide older posts, so we have to go dig them up... It seems like the typical Gilligan anti-hero is the guy who deep down is good, or who wants to be good, or who believes he is good, but keeps being tempted into doing bad stuff... and then he ends up being, in a sense, just as bad as the sadistic psychopaths he deals with on a daily basis.

Sergio Meira

Strange guy. I'll bet he also has an anti-hero story somewhere. Maybe he once wanted to be the conservative, upstanding member of his community that he pretends to be in Albuquerque, and then something happens to prevent it.

Philipp Roensch

The wiggly device in the opening was his "Chi-Machine", which probably sounds weird and is not a medical device?^^ You remember when he lay on the ground while taking calls and had this rock is feet to relax the spine? Guess his back never fully recovered from the slip. You are right, from the scene at the bar and at the insurance company, Jimmy is really feeling some anger now for the crooks in the world that get away with it, now including chuck. Expenses, insurances and tax can put a strain on anyone trying to make an honest living, why the breaking bad at any opportunity seems tempting, but the show judges both paths fairly I believe. I personally can relate somewhat, thankfully good social support systems here, but I'm currently between back taxes, self-employment with no jobs and unemployment. It's fine, but stressful where it should not be.

Impressed by how quickly Simone counted those pills. There were indeed 12. It's not quite Rain Man and the toothpicks, but impressive

The chickens ancestors were the T-Rex. (also George slightly disappointed you didn’t get the joke with the dudes at the music store. He said that guitar was the dude from Deep Purple and then the guy said “another brick in a wall” from the song by Pink Floyd. Lol I love boomer rock music I laughed out loud when I heard that joke the first time. Haha) (I think I just profiled you as a guy that would know that.)

Noel Valdez

It’s our actions that make us who we are. I agree.

I have been there before!! Working so much and barely feeling alive. Getting sleep whenever you can no matter how little it is.

Jesse Coombs

Well, sci-fi isn't that quite crazy of a turn. Vince Gilligan was a writer on the X-Files. Also, his next show, which just finished shooting, is a sci-fi show with Rhea Seehorn (Kim) set in present day Albuquerque! I don't think it's connected to the Breaking Bad universe, but it might be, if just on a thematic level? Whatever the case, it's my most anticipated show for sure.

Villa Lobos

Please please please George; after hearing about you living at your game studio job, please react to Grandma’s Boy. I think you two would absolutely love it. It’s almost the same situation but with a relative to stay with to save you. Also it’s a great stoner comedy.

Redrum Ritual

"Something big has to happen" oh trust me, it's going to be good. I'm have chills and goosebumps thinking about what is going to happen next. We all have our personal struggles. Learned more things about you two like George's weird ponytail fetish. I once had a job that was paying weekly, but the highest I was ever paid was $199 and that was my last paycheck before moving on to another job that paid so much more yet I was still going paycheck to paycheck. Now I'm job hunting. Merry Christmas everyone

Incidentally it did used to be possible to disconnect a house alarm’s ability to contact the monitoring service by cutting the phone line but now all modern systems use Wi-Fi / cellular as their primary or backup connection. However, even cutting the phone line on old systems didn’t disable the alarm system’s actual alarm sounder/bell/siren if one of the protected entrances/windows was breached. And it is entirely possible that people do not have sensors on all entrances, especially rear ones. This was the case in my home when the old system that came with the house had exactly zero door open/glass break sensors on any of the 15 large glass panels on our rear sunroom, but I have since corrected that with the new system I installed soon after we moved in.

US $2 bills are still printed, but seem to be somewhat hoarded/collected by the general public. As of 2023 there are about $3.2 billion worth (or 1.6 billion notes total) of $2 bills in circulation. This is the smallest amount per denomination with the exception of the $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 notes that were first printed in 1918 until 1945 and were discontinued from use in 1969. But you can still use any of those notes for legal tender if you happen to have any! $10,000 Federal Reserve Notes are used for bank-to-bank transfers and not intended for use by the general public. There are also $100,000 Gold Certificates that are also used by Federal Reserve Banks and again do not publicly circulate. US paper currency is 1/4th linen and 3/4th cotton by content. It contains both red and blue fibers for security purposes. The estimated lifespan per denomination is: $1 6.6 years $5 4.7 years $10 5.3 years $20. 7.8 years $50 12.2 years $100 22.9 years Also, “In order to finance the Civil War, Congress authorizes the U.S. Department of the Treasury to issue non-interest-bearing Demand Notes. These notes earn the nickname “greenbacks” because of the green ink on the back. All U.S. currency issued since 1861 remains valid and redeemable at full face value.” All of this and more can be found here: https://www.uscurrency.gov/history

I'll disagree with you in one regard: Howard and HHM were hiding the extent of Chuck's condition. When the series begins, we learn that Jimmy is upset with Howard for trying to maintain the appearance that Chuck's still an active partner at HHM when in reality, Chuck hasn't set foot in HHM in over a year. It's Jimmy's class action suit that gets him working again, and it's HHM's takeover of the suit that provides further evidence of a cover up. Chuck has to come in to meet with opposing counsel, to discuss the case and discuss settlement options. HHM is very careful in limiting the time Chuck is in the meeting and antsy when it begins to run long, as HHM is sure that Chuck will collapse if he spends extended time in the office environment. Ditto when they have the first client meeting with Mesa Verde. They win Mesa Verde's business off Chuck's expertise and reputation, but they hide how sick Chuck is and how involved he is in the practice of law. From the beginning, HHM has hidden how debilitating Chuck's illness is and how involved its senior partner is in the practice of law from its clients and the legal community. I'm still uncertain whether Howard truly knows the nature of the disease, whether it's a mental illness or a physical one, but I'm sure for the sake of the firm, he's been downplaying how sick Chuck is. The sabotaging of him before the bar exposed him, as did the error on the filings for Mesa Verde. He reacted poorly both times. You would have expected a senior partner at a top firm to have kept his composure in both instances. He doesn't. Chuck can do great legal work from home, but his illness prevents him from fully practicing law. HHM has been doing their best to conceal that.

Simon Pegged Me

I remember when they brought the $2 bill back. After they discontinued it, people use to say something was as phony as a $2 dollar bill, so when they brought it back, not everyone accepted them. Despite a full roll out to prepare the public for its return, it was still rare to see one and in the back of many people's minds, it was still phony. I've seen lots of social media accounts called "Kim Wexler's Ponytail." I didn't get it until now. It's got more screen presence than most actors. I really reacted to Jimmy's desperation in this episode. Thanks for reacting with your financial tales of woe. It was nice to know I wasn't the only one feeling that way. I developed a chronic illness during grad school that left me hospitalized. I lost my insurance, ran up massive hospital debt to go with my student loans, and had to make ends meet even though my illness didn't allow me to work a full-time job. When the disease went into remission and I could work full-time, I still lived in fear, fear of unexpected expenses, fear of the phone ringing, because in those days, it was almost always someone calling to tell me I'd come up short. Those BCS scenes were so well done that I felt Jimmy's desperation like it was my own desperation from those days gone by.

Stephen Stone

This isn't what I meant when I said "I want money for Christmas". (I'm joking)

Brad Lowry

Chuck's Doctor, Dr. Lara Cruz, giving great advice is played by an actor you need to watch for: Clea DuVall. The role that made me start looking for her was the in "But, I'm a Cheerleader" with Natasha Lyonne (certainly worth a reaction).

Rob Bob

I always loved the season 3 finale. It's all just perfectly done. Every season of this show gets better than the last, so you're in for a treat with season 4 and beyond ;)

Angzarr

"I really want to boing her... ponytail" Nice save, George.

Angzarr

They're also not paper, they're technically fabric (cotton/linen)

Angzarr

Bryan Cranston appeared in an X-Files episode written by Gilligan, and Aaron Paul in an episode written by BB & BCS writer Tom Schnauz. Even better, Aaron Paul's character's nickname was Sky Commander Winkie, which was Vince Gilligan's college nickname. I think The X-Files would be good reaction material at some point.

Jeff K.

And that X-Files episode is exactly why Vince wanted to cast Bryan in Breaking Bad despite the fact that he was really only known as a sitcom actor at that point.

JBK405

To answer your question about "Giving advice but not 'officially' being a lawyer" during his suspension, that is VERY illegal. Even if you've got a different title at a company or preface every line with "This is not legal advice, but..." it would still be a violation of both the law and also the ethic rules that govern being a lawyer. That even covers the tiniest things like "Hey Joe, should I send this to the judge directly and CC the counsel, or send it to the counsel directly and CC the judge?" In that situation Joe would have to say "Sorry, I can't answer that" or risk being accused of practicing law without a license. That's not to say it doesn't happen, but when it does happen it's very much a crime. And everybody involved knows it's a crime. Of course, that doesn't mean Jimmy won't do it anyway, since we've already seen that he's plenty happy breaking the law. But that's a different question.

Ste Rawlings

We've already seen Saul, he's been there this whole time. Saul Goodman and Slippin Jimmy are the same person. He's a mask that Jimmy hides behind to avoid his feelings and accountability for his actions. Chuck has been right about him all along but his pride and ego make him outwardly more unlikeable than Jimmy, so his message gets completely lost.

Vwlss Nvwls

The most random thing I found lying around was two mismatched flip-flops sitting in an empty parking space at a strip mall. Of course I took a picture of them.

Ian M

As a Vancouver native, I felt those Van City struggle stories in my soul.

Josh

Oh yeah the struggles in episode 7 hit home. I once had to sleep in my car for almost a month in my mid 20s. My roommate of three years took off with no warning and I was homeless soon after. Vending machines, mac n cheese and cheese bread got me through those days.

Ren

jesus, imagine saying that JIMMY is feeling anger for CROOKS like CHUCK.... what a twist of values.

Ren

Ok, 1: Howard did not try to buyout Chuck on season 1. JIMMY wanted that, so Chuck could get millions (even tho Chuck didnt want that). Howard kept considering Chuck as part of the office and just on a medical license. So Howard was sending him money as payment, almost like a salary. 2: I dont want to sound like a hater or anything cause i rly enjoy watching stuff along with you, but it kinda shocks me how you guys are SO biased about the characters and end up blinding yourselves about some stuff. On this episode for example: Chuck just discovered that the debilitating illness that took two years of his life isnt some physical thing with no real treatment, but actually a mental thing that he can work his way to get cured. We have a beautifuly sad scene of him describing to the doctor what he wants to do when he gets better (which is also everything he has been missing those last 2 years), and where we also discover that he has been getting impressive results on his work to get better. Nonetheless, when we see him in the supermarket struggling hard to keep his improvement going, you guys put that as a big ego thing, a "he thinks too much of himself" thing. And to contrast that, we have a scene where Kim, at the restaurant, just have a PURE EGO moment with Howard. He showing up there and reminding that she came from HHM, basicaly reminds her that the only reason she is with her clients there is because Jimmy fucked HHM over with an illegal move. And you guys actually liked the way she acted and thought she was on the right. Her ego after that keeps going and makes her, as a way to compensate and "prove her worth", offer to "carry" jimmy financialy, and when he refuses, she goes and take the other client, which by now you already know it will lead her to burn out and crash the car. Not to mention how you just keep considering the whole tape recording plot as if it was Chuck being imoral and trying to fuck Jimmy for no good reason except his ego and hatred... Jimmy, literaly, illegaly frauded Chuck's documents while he was sick, making him be humiliated in front of clients and peers, and making him lose a client that worth millions to his company. Chuck making a (legal) plan to unmask the whole thing and to get Jimmy disbarred, who just did what Chuck forseen and was most afraid of, is only correct of him. Again, not trying to sound like a hater, but the twisted way that you two saw those scenes, to me seems like you are biased to basicaly hate anything coming from Chuck (and distrust anything from Howard) while just accept and excuse anything from Kim and especialy Jimmy.

maikeru

That sounds crazy to me. Giving advice, as a private citizen (who is not a lawyer at that point) in your free time, for free etc. should not be illegal during suspension IMO. I mean, it´s more to being a lawyer than just giving advice, so I don´t know where the problem is. You can read about legal stuff in books and internet, it´s public stuff, so it´s not like a lawyer is telling some super confidential stuff if he gives advice to some random old folks or even his family members how to fill a form or some shit, you know what I mean? And who is going to control that? I don´t know maybe I´m missing something.

Magnus Karlsson

I agree, it's terrifying that so many people think Mike is a good person just because he often do good things for his family. I guess that's how so many women end up marrying bad men: "He may have killed a few people but, he's so handy! And he has such kind eyes. He's such a catch!"

sami williams

funny that you guys mention if BCS went sci fi... Rhea Seehorn (Kim) stars in Vince Gilligans new show Pluribus which is also excellent. Highly recommend watching it if you havent already.
