One story Matthew Lawrence has said was he and Robin Williams but Robin Williams was still dressed as Mrs. Doubtfire and still talking with the English Accent lol. There is a video on Youtube of the three kids now grown up talking about how much of a joy is was filming and being around Robin Williams.

Noel Valdez

Another Sally Field movie that's great is My Name is Doris. Really funny, there's stuff about the movie that I don't jive with but overall it's one I love. Also, Marriage Story is a great divorce movie from one of the best directors out there IMO.

Matt88g

Patch Adams is a great Robin Williams movie, it’s based on a true story about a doctor.

Big MCD

Chris Columbus is producing the new Nosferatu movie coming out but I don't think he's directed anything particularly dark, unless you count RENT lol

Keith Brown

Composer Howard Shore - Check out this great movie 1994's "Nobody's Fool" starring Paul Newman with a great supporting cast to go with his Oscar nominated performance !

Walter White

RIP Robin Williams. What an incredible talent he was

nigel Macbug

suggestion for a heartwarming Robin Williams film what dreams may come 1998

Carlos Hurtado

I always appreciated that Pierce Brosnan was a good guy. the Trope of a bad step parent is overdone and not fair. There are lots of great steparents out there who step up to the plate. I'm think movies have characters watch old shows movies because the studios own the rights to that media. at the same time as a kid in the 90s my brother and I would watch old TV shows and movies all the time. we had a huge collection VHS tapes. Our favorite was The Three Stooges and steamboat willy.

Maiki

You recognized Harvey Fierstein from ID4. The actress playing Lydie was in it too, as Randy Quaids daughter. Another 90s Pierce Brosnan film (that isn't Bond) you might want to consider one day is The Thomas Crown Affair (1999). With an amazing on-screen chemistry between Brosnan and Rene Russo.

FWPJR.

Love this movie, I’m glad you two are reacting to it. I haven’t seen it in many years, but I used to rent it from blockbuster a lot back in the day lol so I’m looking forward to watching this reaction later tonight. R.I.P Robin Williams

Odd Thomas

A father disguises himself to spy on his children and his ex-wife, lying to their faces for weeks. This is still creepy af, even with Robin Williams

Odd Thomas

For more Sally Field: Smokey & The Bandit Robin Williams: Insomnia, Death to Smoochy

Dustin Duvall

Should watch Miracle on 34th street 1994 version and Matilda. Same little girl from here

E. D.

We all know it‘s time for Midsommar. It‘ll be posted in the near future, I can feel it.

Ginge Tomassi

Yeah I had never realised before how much Daniel is like a much less problematic version of Jimmy McGill.

beefjerkywizard

I think "The Birdcage" needs to be added to the list

Charles Clover

And as I'm watching, I'm almost certain that the lady who called Miranda during the party is Mrs Deegle(sp?) from Gremlins.

REDR58

It’s an A24 produced movie. They’re not watching those right now, which is too bad as I would also like them to watch “Room” from 2016 but that is also an A24 film.

REDR58

Before watching that, they should first watch the original 1968 The Thomas Crown Affair movie with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway.

REDR58

Another good and obvious Robin Williams as a doctor movie is “Awakenings” from 1990 with Robert De Niro.

Odd Thomas

Why are they watching random old movies on TV? Because it was the 90s, there was only a few channels unless you had cable, so basically you just watched whatever was on. Maybe you had a few VHS movies but they were taped off TV (the bought copies were pretty expensive). Honestly as kids we discovered a wide range of random things this way compared to now where you can literally watch anything any time and algorithms only show you things you already like.

REDR58

And once again, I recommend they first watch the original “Miracle on 34th Street” from 1947 first. Both are very good movies. But they should watch the older one first.

REDR58

Haven’t watched the whole reaction yet so forgive me if it’s answered later but the thing about she “does windows” is part of a sort of an old joke that people used to and still may say, “I don’t do windows” as in “I have my limits” as what I’ll do with a messy job.

Jeb Manning

I've got to recommend a reaction to The Fisher King. It's also one of Robin Williams's best movies. Super funny but also heartbreaking at the same time. It allows Robin to showcase his manic cartoon energy but also his serious acting chops. It's also a great movie for Jeff Bridges too. It's such a good movie, and it would make for a great reaction.

Maiki

Damn, wasn't aware that Room also is A24. In the past 10 years, not that many movies have affected me as much as this one :(

m0lika1 .

It would be amazing if you guys watched Steel Magnolias in the near future! One of my absolute favourite Sally Field performances

E. D.

@REDR58 I know, but months ago Midsommar won a pole, but then George said they won‘t post another A24 movie until at least november to not risk a strike again (A24 is a pain in the ass), we have almost january, so I thought maybe there‘ll be an A24 react in the near future 🤷‍♂️

Cobbie D

The song 'Walk like a man' reminded me that I would like to suggest a movie that I think you guys will enjoy. It's called 'Heart and Souls'. It has Robert Downing jr and Alfie Woodard.

REDR58

Yeah, it really was all about choice back then or lackthereof. We don’t know how lucky we have it these days. In fact, some people say there’s too many choices! I was born in the 1970s, but the first TV I had in my room in the 1980s was an old black and white portable. My mother picked up for me at a garage sale. I had my Atari 2600 hooked up to that thing (and actually used the “black and white” switch on the system!) and we got exactly channels in the house over the air, channel 3, 6, 10 , 12 for VHF and then 17, 29, 48 and 57 for UHF in the Philadelphia area. We didn’t get cable until the 1990s and then it was only basic and most of the stuff on there wasn’t that great. Most of the TV I watched then, other than MTV was still the local broadcast channels.

RE: Dark Robin Williams One Hour Photo: Robin Williams as a criminal psychopath Awakenings: Robin Williams as a doctor in a Historical Drama with Robert Deniro (Not Dark but pretty serious) World's Greatest Dad: Robin Williams exploits his son's suicide to advance his writing career. RE: Custody If Robin Williams has no home or job, the court wouldn't allow him to have any custody because any days under his custody would be days of homelessness for the children, thus the court acts in the best interest of the children to make sure they have a home at all times and only allow visitation. Once he establishes that he has a permanent residence and a steady job to maintain that residence the court would likely grant some sort of shared custody.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Great reaction, legends. Ah man this makes me miss Robin Williams more and more every rewatch. Great score by Howard Shore in this movie and you can definitely hear kernels of some LOTR themes and figures in there for sure. Also have always loved Sally Field’s reaction to the revelation in the restaurant as well haha. Mr Brosnan’s character being a genuine dude also benefits the film much more than if he were a jerk, I agree

Rhiannon

Ohmygod YES!!! This is an amazing 90s romcom that is always overlooked. Stacked cast, really interesting and heartwarming premise. Ugh. So good. (And that song always makes me think of that movie also.)

Rhiannon

Agreed. Such a wonderful, hilarious, heartbreaking movie, and Sally Field's performance is absolutely perfect

Rhiannon

Seriously! People don't realize that there were great vast periods during the day when the only things on TV were soap operas, news, infomercials, and like old western movies. When the reruns of actual sitcoms started airing in the late afternoons, it was great! I remember watching I Love Lucy, Dick van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Taxi, MASH, Bewitched....so many great old shows would start being aired after school.

Rhiannon

It's a beautiful movie, but I'm not sure I'd call it heartwarming....

Rhiannon

I wonder if anyone has ever recommended the Robin Williams movie Jack to you guys. I absolutely love that one. It is SO GOOD.

REDR58

Speaking of Gandhi, check out the 1982 movie “Gandhi” with Ben Kingsley. It’s excellent.

Simone's Coconut Squire

Insomnia was a good one! I forgot that in my Dark Williams list. Interesting contrast if I remember right, with... Pachcino? playing opposite? A great performance from both but the ending of One Hour Photo scarred me for life in a way that I think only Seven has done.

Simone's Coconut Squire

I'm determined to get these two to watch Awakenings at some point. I'm so sad it's not a more widely loved film. I can't even THINK about that movie without getting choked up! Possibly my favorite DeNiro role ever.

Daniel Goldberg

Thanks for bringing that up. I love that movie but can never remember the name. I always want to call it Walk Like a Man.

REDR58

I haven’t seen this movie in years before today. Great reaction. The joke Doubtfire makes to Stu about the “cunning linguistics” is especially funny as Pierce Brosnan makes a similar joke as James Bond in “Tomorrow Never Dies” from 1997. Brosnan seems to be a pretty nice guy. He was married to an Australian woman Cassandra Harris who appeared in the 1981 James Bond movie “For Your Eyes Only” with Roger Moore who was then playing Bond. Sadly Harris died at age 43 of cancer. He’s been married to his second wife Keely Shaye Smith since 2001. It’s so funny to remember when there were smoking sections in restaurants. I recall being in such places as a kid and of course you could still smell the smoke no matter where you sat!

Lance Stark

A quote often attributed to Mark Twain goes something like "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." There's no evidence he ever actually said or wrote this, but there's a good reason the souvenir shops at Fisherman's Wharf do a brisk business in sweatshirts and windbreakers year-round.

Raven Dark

I think the writers chose to make Stu a good guy because, if he was portrayed as a bad guy, it would cause viewers to sympathize with Daniel a little TOO too much. Don't get me wrong, we are supposed to sympathize with Daniel, and the writers (and Robin Williams) did a fantastic job of both making him likable, and getting us on his side. But if Stu came off as a villain, it might have sent the message that Daniel is the right one for Miranda. I think the writers wanted us to like Daniel, but also, in the end, to see and accept that he isn't the right one for her, that they aren't right for each other. George, you mentioned that by having Stu be a good guy, it made Daniel seem worse. I think that was part of the point. It helped to highlight Daniel's flaws, and thus, his need for growth. I also believe there is a simpler reason--the movie is meant to subvert expectations, and having Stu be the villain would have made the movie too predictable. As far as why Miranda was looking at her own clothes as if she didn't like them. It's common for people to like outfits when they first buy them, but over time, their tastes change and they can grow to dislike them, especially as times and styles change. When she and Mrs. Doubtfire were looking at the dresses and Mrs. D pulled out the one dress Miranda didn't like, Mrs. D said something like it was classic, elegant, ect, and Miranda said, "and old." Then she said she wore it to some function or other in 1978. Sometimes when people haven't dated in a while, and then they get back in the game, they suddenly look at their clothes and think they're ugly, old-fashioned, or out of style. I hope that makes sense. Great reaction, guys. I love this movie, and I'm glad you did too. RIP, Robin Williams. You are dearly missed.

Raven Dark

Oh, and I forgot to mention in my last comment, I agree with what others said here in recommending One Hour Photo. If you're interested in seeing Robin Williams show his dark side, you guys should check it out. There is a well-known episode of the cop show Law and Order: Special Victims' Unit, in which he guest stars. I can't remember what he was exactly, but I think he's a serial killer. He was absolutely terrifying in that role. I watched it again recently, and I still got chills. Oh, and also, also, I agree, you guys should watch Awakenings. He isn't dark in it, but he's excellent, and it's a fantastic movie with some superb acting from Robert DiNero.

Vwlss Nvwls

A running joke many years ago (and maybe still) is that when you are interviewing for a house cleaner they will say "I don't do windows". Not sure where or why this joke started, but that is why the poster said she does windows.

Vwlss Nvwls

I grew up spending weekends with my father, and when I was with my mother she was almost always at work. It is not easy on a kid living like that, but courts decide these things based on the welfare of the children. At one point in my life, my mother and I had to move in with my grandparents, it was at this point my father was finally able to get major custody, and I started spending weekends with my mother. This was a better situation for me, because I actually got to see my mother, but it still sucked.

Simon Pegged Me

Hey, Simone—I apologize if you've answered this before in an AMA video—have you done any voice-over work?

Vwlss Nvwls

I grew up watching children shows that were like the Mrs. Doubtfire show at the end. They are actually really fun for a kid, because it is like hanging out with a grandparent, and learning and playing.

Vwlss Nvwls

If you want to see Robin Williams at his craziest, check out his stand up routines. He is unhinged.

Noel Valdez

I love One Hour Photo! Also, idk if you heard of this movie but Robin Williams is also in a great movie called World's Greatest Dad. Robin himself is not doing anything that crazy in it, but the movie is a fucked up dark comedy so its kinda in the same vein. (not really but still. lol)

Noel Valdez

I agree with you! The thing about this movie is that it's not on Daniel's side 100%. You expect the main character to be the one that's right or the one you should route for, but I think the movie is trying to get us to understand everyone's side and not always believe that Daniel is the best. Also, if Stu came off as just the villain this movie would lose how interesting it is. It's more interesting to me as a viewer to see a film that doesn't just have clear-cut good guys and bad guys. I like how this movie makes you see everyone - not throwing stones just showing these characters' lives. Also, RIP to the GOAT as well.

Raven Dark

Yeah, I wanted to say that as well--the movie would lose a lot of nuance and realness if Stu was a bad guy.

p0sthum4n

The relationship between Daniel and his brother is one of the funniest parts of this movie. I'm so haaaapppppy 🤗

REDR58

Yep, I was born in 1974 but we used to watch Nickelodeon in the morning before going to school and then in the evening and all those 1950s/1960s sitcoms were on there. The Donna Reed Show, Dennis the Menace, My Three Sons, Lassie (not really a sitcom), The Patty Duke Show and Gidget. Then on syndicated reruns broadcast over the air we watched stuff like The Brady Bunch Gilligan’s Island, Batman. Later as I got older I watched the original Hawaii Five-O, Magnum pi, and god know how many cartoons between all that.

REDR58

It means the sort of limits for something you won’t do especially a dirty job.

REDR58

Robin Williams also turns up in the Season 2 Episode 1 “Bop Gun” of the series “Homicide Life on the Street,” in which is absolutely amazing. I kind of remember how big of a deal it was at the time to have with someone like him on a TV show like that: https://youtu.be/7xQtQH9ZMGo?si=Z51BEmgKGYTk_F-P

Steve G

Another Robin Williams classic, one of my favorites growing up. He's in another Chris Columbus movie called Nine Months, he's also super funny in that one, you guys should check that one out for sure.

Logan Kerlee

Had so much fun watching this with you both! Wow! I was in tears a few times, watching this. xD Not sad tears, really, I was just missing Robin Williams so much! Very happy that you got to experience this movie, George! It's a classic for a reason. :) I hope that this one will be fondly remembered by you.

Logan Kerlee

Just finished it.. wow! xD Never in my life have I seen Robin Williams play a role like that before. Yikes.

Raven Dark

Isn't it incredible? One Hour Photo should give you a similar feeling if you want to see more of that and you haven't seen that movie, Logan. He's good in that too.

over capacity

eeeh surely that depends on what youre accustomed to. these guys are Canadians, George lives in Montreal which can get down to -20 in winter for months at a time. google says coldest SF tends to get is 3c. which is probably a Canadian summer lmao.

Anthony Villena

I saw Mrs Doubtfire as a child and I thought that the mother was the villain for demanding Saturdays only while she was going to be working all the time

MatthewBrown74m

My father worked on this film as a camera man and grip man

Angela D. Mitchell

I love Robin Williams but loathe his character in this and hate the way the movie villainizes poor Sally Field. The movie keeps framing Daniel as "poor Dad" when the opening scene is a great example of how living with this idiot would have been a nightmare. (Destroying the entire house just for a kid's birthday party then making surprised sad Pikachu faces when Mom was mad, etc.) I really think his character goes too far (like actually trying to poison Brosnan's very nice character with his allergy!). At least the movie didn't try to end with Daniel reuniting with his wife (that would have been the real horror). I do miss Robin Williams of course -- genius comedian and actor and gone too soon.

Gary Fixler

This must have been an interesting role for Harvey Fierstein, like when Robin shows up and asks "Can you make me a woman?" and he replies "I thought you'd never ask!" Harvey seems right on the edge of that. from his wiki: > Speaking with People magazine in February 2022 to promote his memoir I Was Better Last Night, Fierstein stated, "I'm still confused as to whether I'm a man or a woman," and that as a child he often wondered if he'd been born in the wrong body. "When I was a kid, I was attracted to men. I didn't feel like a boy was supposed to feel. Then I found out about gay. So that was enough for me for then". The interview also noted his ease at playing both Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof and Edna Turnblad in Hairspray. He avoided identifying as non-binary in the interview, saying he had thought about it a lot and "it's the term that bothers me", but concluded that "I don't think I've missed anything by not making up my mind".[47] On the LGBTQ&A podcast the following month, Fierstein said, "I'm comfortable being me and if I ask myself, 'Would you want to transition?' The answer's no".[48][49]

Gary Fixler

The job placement lady who had to check on Robin's character was also the lady who got launched up the stairs and out the window on the chair lift in Gremlins. Polly Holliday was one of the core cast of Alice, a sitcom that took place in a diner, and ran from 1976 to 1985, and I think was the number one sitcom every year, kind of like a Roseanne of its day. Polly played a waitress named Flo, who was popular enough to get her own spin-off, called Flo, which ran from 1980 to 1981. I believe she's the only main cast member of Alice who's still alive, and there's a Gen-X meme going around now of cast photos from a bunch of sitcoms of the 70s and 80s, all in grayscale, save for one person in color, who's the only living person from the show (like Joyce DeWitt, who played Janet on Three's Company). The Flo character is where the iconic (especially in the south) phrase "kiss my grits" came from. Okay, now you're all caught up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN2cfA45mUI
