Good thing they didn't wait 2 years to watch it like Home Alone 2. Just 2 months lol. Tron Aries October 2025

Be Human

Music is so good because Daft Punk did the score. They also play the DJs in the club scene.

mojo shivers

I love the inclusion of Daft Punk in this film, both in the soundtrack and as extended cameos. It’s so funny that their helmets and getup fit right into the computer world. My headcanon is that actual Daft Punk just got brought into the world and just went with it. It makes hopeful they’ll come out of retirement to work on the third movie.

Happy Hanukkah

What an unbelievable coincidence! Daft Punk is playing at my house! My house!!!

PIG

Incredible themes and vision. Spectacular music. Horrid writing. Would love to see what they thought at the end of the film.

Yeah, the de-aging caught a lot of flack at the time. But this was the very early days of the technology, so it was a little more forgivable.

I always love when somebody can recognize a specific place in a film or TV show. Not just "Oh that's my city" but actually the specific corner. I get such a kick. I don't like being a bummer, but I am not kind to this film. The overall CGI isn't bad, but it also wasn't NEW. Except for the digital de-aging (Which was wonky even back then) all of the imagery had been done before by other Hollywood films. We've already seen giant CGI armies marching in lockstep and lasers flashing so fast they overwhelm the screen. Yes it's pretty, but that's all. Even when I was seeing it for the first time in the theatre it felt like I had seen it all before. The original film didn't use nearly as much CGI as people think -- most of the special effects were hand-drawn animations and rotoscoping -- but they made it LOOK different. The soundtrack is definitely the best aspect. What I am most grateful for is that this gave us "Star Trek: Legacy". A re-cut of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" with the Daft Punk soundtrack from here. It is AMAZING. I recommend it to everybody who is even a small fan of "Star Trek" (Assuming you have already seen The Motion Picture): https://vimeo.com/217336882

The de-aging was criticized at the time, but I actually thought it worked perfectly within the Grid since the program was supposed to be flawed anyway…it would make sense that it would look like an Uncanny Valley version of Jeff Bridges. Definitely doesn’t work in the opening 1989 shots, though.

Crow

Same when Star Wars first tried it in Rogue One also. It looked a bit janky, but I appreciate the ambition for the time. No complaints here given that context.

Kron0n

I rewatched this the other day and wondered about the time dilation. After looking it up t's about 1000 years for Flynn on the inside. Based on 1 milicycle being 8 hours and he's been searching for the disk for a 1000 cycles. I also love the Daft Punk soundtrack....

Wrencher86

Rogue One looks better but also comes with the moral issue of using a deceased actors likeness. Which I am not a fan of.

Rob Church

You got to set 'em up!

Ari Ramirez

Question for the room. Does Quorra count as a Disney Princess?

Daniel Smith

I watched Rogue One with my Dad who was into all the Hammer Horror film when he was young. His response at the end? “I didn’t know he was still alive” I suppose his generation can’t believe computers can do that kind of thing so assumes a guy that had died over 20 years earlier is still alive.

Happy Hanukkah

I was completely OK with Tarkin, but Leiah plummeted into the uncanny valley. Upon re-watching it right now, I can't rule out this being due largely to the lighting. :-)

Lachlan Caldwell

Back when this movie first came out; the de-aging didn't look great, but it was the best they could do at the time, so we forgave them.

JoeNotCharles

I said this in the Tron reaction, and I'll say it again: Tron spent a lot of effort to make real sets look computer-generated, giving it a really unique tone. This spent a lot of effort making CGI sets look real, which is what every CGI movie does, so what's the point? Look at all the reflections on the floors and clouds in the sky and stuff. Why are those there? Fantastic soundtrack, though.

smeeegss

they didn't notice daft punk cameo oooooof

smeeegss

ps 3 movie comes out next year!!

Jeff Norwood-Brown

Hey you two! Just wanted to wish you both a fantastic few days and all the best for 2025. This is not my favourite time of the year so I will be leaning on you both more than normal to get me through! Take care.

Luc Zettwoog

I don't see enough people mentioning it. If you like this universe, I highly recommend you to watch (react to :)) the animated mini-series Tron Uprising. For me, it contains the best of both movies, endearing characters (Elyjah Wood does the voice of the main character), once again magnificent visuals (borrowing more from this movie, but still with good nods to the original) and an incredible expansion of the lore. And if you're wondering, it takes place before the events of Tron Legacy. PS: About Cilian Murphy, this film was released in 2010. Although he had already starred in a number of major films (28 days later, Batman, Inception). He wasn't yet the super star he is today (this was just before Peaky Blinder too) so it's not so surprising that he was still playing very minor roles at the time.

Ohhh the new Tron movie drops this year and it looks so good

UncleGaGa1979

Sadly, because of their split in 2021, Daft Punk will not be returning for Tron: Ares, but I think the makers of the movie made a genius decision when they chose Nine Inch Nails to compose the score. You can hear a tiny snippet of the music in the first Ares trailer and based on that, I think Trent Reznor and company will not disappoint. And how the hell did DP not receive an Academy Award nomination for the music from Legacy? Don't get me wrong, the score for The Social Network (that year's winner) is amazing, but not receiving at least a nomination? That was ridiculous!! And who made the music for Social Network? Ironically, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, from the band Nine Inch Nails!!

I don't blame babies crying on an airplane, I blame the parents for thinking they can go on an airplane with a baby. It was your choice to have a kid, accept that normal life is over for you. As for the 6-year-old: Two in the heart, one in the head. Quick, clean and professional.
