Gladiator (with dad) - Patreon Version

Do you manually translate this uncut version or do you use ai and then double check/correct afterwards? Either way, I really appreciate the extra effort for the uncut/full length version. Thanks George!

Jeff I.

I think manually, since he's mentioned that it takes a long time to do the translations. He posted a screenshot one time of when he tried to use AI to speed things up, but its translation of something his dad said was completely wrong.

i use AI to do the first pass, not because it gives anything useful but because it marks down all the places where words are spoken, and separates them by person. Then i go in and manually rewrite them one by one. It saves me some time in having to create each text block manually.

Technically, Terminator movies and Gladiator are war movies 😅

I really enjoy these George, I hope you and your Dad continue to make these.

Reactions with you and your dad are great. So you did some war movies which was awesome, this time around it's been action movies which has also been great. I wonder how he'd react to an outrageous comedy. Obviously, something too crude like American Pie would be a no go I'd think, but maybe something like Talladega Nights or Dumb and Dumber. I'm not sure how much of the comedy magic gets lost in translation tho. I think during the war movies block I suggested as a half joke you show him Tropic Thunder. I say half joke because you were watching war movies and that's KIND of a war movie but not really LOL. For sure a good one if you were to show him what outrageous American comedies are like. But whatever genre, these have been fun to watch.

This is a great movie to watch with your dad. Looking forward to it.

Speaking of "historical" movies that aren't that historical, but are great, would love a Braveheart reaction in the future. Although that's also a war movie, trying to think of movies your dad might like but I keep thinking of war movies lol. Okay, how about The Princess Bride, really curious of he'd like it, or Rocky? Or maybe some Carpenter, The Thing or even They Live? Or some Zemeckis, BTTF or Forrest Gump?

That's a very smart use of AI... sure AI might do pretty decent translations between English and Chinese these days, but obviously you speak both at a native level so you can translate between much more accurately and idiomatically than AI... so using AI just to timestamp where in the video you need to go in and translate makes so much sense.

George's dad and Everything Everywhere All at Once anyone??

Jon

Also, I laugh-hiccupped at the dichotomy between George's dad drinking from a humble coffee mug, and George himself drinking from the riduculously large (but still cool) tavern stein thing.

Happy that you both are watching this together on here, with us. :) This movie's great! I remember loving it as a kid and quite a bit when I watched it later on with my dad. :) Good times, for sure! I'm hopeful that your dad will enjoy this one! :) Parts of this can be a bit dramatic but it all makes sense in the end, I feel. I really do feel that Russel Crowe did a phenomenal job playing this role! His character has EVERYONE'S respect! It's well deserved. I really do love most all of the lines in this film! It's just so well written. :D FUCKING LOVE THE LINES IN THIS MOVIE! D hahahaha, it's so damn inspirational and motivating! Very true, George. Combat today is far less involved than it once was. You can clear out an entire COUNTRY of people with a few keystrokes for crying out loud. What happened to his family is brutal and tragic. Definitely gives PLENTY of reason for revenge! Gross way to heal but if it works - it works! xD That's actually right, George. He's preparing to fight by rubbing his hands in dirt to soak up whatever moisture to prevent the blade from slipping in his grasp. It's cool that you understand the thumbs up/down thing, George! I'm happy that you get that. :) Your dad's right! All men love this movie. xD I know that I did when I was a boy and I definitely enjoy it now as a man. It's crazy to think that I watched this in theaters 25 years ago! Wow.. I feel like a dinosaur saying that. :P

Logan Kerlee

lmao, true! It's a shame that George has already watched The Terminator/Terminator 2: Judgement Day. He really doesn't need to bother with any of the others. They aren't entertaining or quality movies in pretty much any way.

Mitchell Bowker

What is worse: watching the love making scene in The Terminator with your Dad, or watching the scene where Commodus fondles his sister’s mouth?

Logan Kerlee

Way to go, George! I think that it's awesome that you go in and do that for your father. :) Means that you've watched the movie once before the reaction - but I totally understand the reason behind it. :)

Shibby

I really like how your dad seems to understand people and their motivations etc really well. He always points out something I haven't considered even though I've watched several of these movies multiple times.

Jeff I.

Like the opening scene of Inglorious Basterds when Hans Landa asks the farmer if he can smoke too, and then he pulls out a huge pipe.

Seen afew of the reactions with your Father - I would like to sit down with him and share a few beers and talk about our military service - Him being a tanker and me being US Marine Anti- tank (Dragon missle system) and swab stories - angain it was enjoyable reaction with your Father
