First...wooohoooo!!!😄

Farbod

oh boy... one of my favorite films when I was in college.

Bob Bittner

One of my favorites! Thank you!

Be Human

This OST has been my go to for morning runs.

Matthew Johnson

"Yes! Come on! Ah, bikes are faster!" is perhaps a top-tier adorable Simone moment

Helly R

This movie was a big thing at the time. It also got Franke Potente her role in the Bourne Identity. Kinda wish she became bigger in Hollywood after that.

Ochnoe123

George im dissapointed (not really^^). The Simpsons S12E18 is basically inspired by this movie.

TomGas2025

Yeah and in the last "round" she "sang" herself...

Simone is right: Bikes ARE faster! I saw this in the early-'00s when I was studying German, it was part of the class. This had a surprisingly big pop culture impact in the late-'90s for being a low-budget German flick. It's said to be the inspiration for "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" video game, the aesthetic for the "Lizzie McGuire" TV show, etc. I'm with George, this makes me wish Franka Potente had a bigger career in other stuff I've seen.

Jeff K.

Simone, regarding the thing about people who watch sports and such burning more calories just from watching… I doubt it’s true but I can also see the logic since when you’re watching something intense your heart rate can spike, so more calories naturally could get burned. (Astonishingly, I’m not a doctor, so just go with my probably dumb thought process.)

Rob Church

Really fun film, also really easy to pop on and rewatch which is probably why I've seen it so many times.

Happy Hanukkah

Wow! I didn't know there was a sequel to The Fifth Element! All you wanna do is run around, Lola. Run, Lola, run! (Recommending The Commitments (1991).) "No, seriously, my head is massive." We know; there are frequent comments about the size of your mug. I almost heard "mastiff," but I can't be bothered to meld your head with that of a mastiff. I shall now refresh my memory of Maria Bello on Craig Ferguson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-JzztVIAO4

John Zelinka

I'm soooo excited to watch this with you. Don't know if it is your style of movie, but I loved it!

John Zelinka

....then they would have to change the movie title to, "Bike, Lola, Bike"

Happy Hanukkah

"Meld your head with that of a mastiff." Let me clarify that if I were to do so, it would be using image processing tools. I would not want people to get the impression I'm a mad scientist. This impression would be correct, but I would not want people to get it.

Badger

That was not Logan's Run

Mr TV Eye

Run Lola Run is indeed pretty unique, so it's hard to pick recommendation that are similar, but "Crank" just came to my mind. It's not really the same kind of style and storytelling, but there are some parallels. And it's a great movie, I'm sure both of you would love it.

Ari Ramirez

Not exactly the same, but a close recommendation would be Enter The Void (2009), although it's quite a bit darker. Warning, do NOT watch Enter The Void if you're sensitive to flashing lights.

Guthwulf

Its always strange to see some of your favorite English reactors watch something in German, which is my native language. If you're open to "more" from Germany, I would highly suggest the Mystery Series "Dark" (available on Netflix). The series was a huge hit for Netflix and is very popular among reactors. Its also a very well constructed and "complete" Story Arc over 3 Seasons. Bonus: The seasons are shorter (S1: 10 episodes, S2 and S3: 8 episodes each). So maybe try S1 and see if its something you like? I would imagine you would love it... so much to speculate and theorize about during the episodes.

Tom Hess

George, when you say "this sounds familiar" at 5:32, are you talking about the music? I know it's been re-used in the japanese TV show "Tosochu: Run for Money". Maybe in the Netflix or chinese remake as well? It's a Matrix rip-off game show where celebrities have to run away from Agent Smith lookalikes.

BzzBzzBzzBzzBzz

I would recommend "The Princess and the Warrior" (same actress) and "Parfum" both by the same director Tom Tykwer

Tim Nicolle

Haven't seen this since my German lessons at school...had completely forgotten it existed!

Leenis

When I was mid twenties, I moved back to my mom's unfinished walk out basement. I paid rent, but it was very reduced, so it helped us both financially. She hired one person to drywall the basement, and I was the other person who helped. I had this soundtrack and put it on repeat as we worked. IT is a perfect soundtrack for work or working out. It gets you so pumped. Good memories!

Andi Herr

Pretty sure that's also the music used in the Simpsons spoof of the movie.

Andi Herr

Very pleased that you enjoyed this so much. A few comments: - The make sure the iconic look was maintained throughout shooting, Franka Potente wasn't allowed to wash her hair. - The man in the ambulance is the security guard from the bank. - I couldn't name any similar movies, but I know that Edgar Wright was majorly influenced by this one.

Jay Johnson

Lola may very well have run more in this movie that I have in my entire life. eh, adult life at least; I vaguely remember running around more as a kid, and that probably added up to at least an hour and a half of running in total. Also, it looks like you posted this the day before my birthday (well, anniversary of my birth; I'm more than a year old)

Dioskur

I'd say this is "main character of the world for one day" the movie I love it. saw it three times in theaters when it came out (never even saw anything twice before) and baught the soundtrack. and obviously I had a crush on her for a while
