The beard on George! I love it. I can't wait for this.

Monica Alarcon

Btw. Demian Bichir (pronounced Beach ear) is one of Mexico's leading actors, along with his two brothers collectively known as Los Bichir. Demian is the one who made a career in Hollywood even earning an Oscar nomination...

Cherno Alpha

Surprised it didn't come up in the trivia for them, so who's gonna be the first to tell em the story about the guitar that got smashed?

Liam Nissan

Pardon the request.. But could you try to wrap up the Cars trilogy sometime this decade? Waiting months between movies is hell..

Happy Hanukkah

I am happy to learn that Simone was able to substitute a slippery potato for the missing wrinkly tomato.

Happy Hanukkah

Dang! Dude leaned too far into the borscht! :-)

If you want some more of Jennifer Jason Leigh, check out Fast Times At Ridgemont High with Sean Penn, Judge Reinhold and Phoebe Cates

Dirge Girl

The original score for John Carpenter's The Thing.

Rob Church

As soon as Simone said "We haven't made any Red Dead jokes" and George got quiet you just know he was trying to think of one.

HeyHeyJK

This is the one Tarantino film I've never seen. For some reason - possibly reviews I heard - it just didn't sound that great. But, I'll happily and finally check it out with your reaction so see if it warrants a watch of the full movie at some point.

Rob Church

The censoring on this video was absolutely beautiful

Scott CineRam

Since you liked Jennifer Jason Leigh in this so much, perhaps you'd run a JJ Leigh poll? Some suggestions: Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Hitcher (with Rutger Hauer), Miami Blues (Alec Baldwin), Single White Female (Bridget Fonda), Hudsucker Proxy (Coen Brothers), Delores Claiborne (Kathy Bates), Existenz (Jude Law), Margot at the Wedding (Nicole Kidman). All of these were made before Hateful Eight.

jmundt33a

Dolores Claiborne. Absolutely.

JBK405

I suppose I'll shoulder the burden: The guitar that Daisy was playing was an actual antique, and very valuable. It had been borrowed specifically for the sequence, and was supposed to be swapped out for a cheap replica when John Ruth smashed it. However, Kurt Russel didn't know about the swap (Or perhaps thought it had already been swapped) and so grabbed the real guitar. Daisy freaking out was Jennifer Jason Leigh really protesting and trying to stop him, since she knew she was holding the real thing.

Rev

Per Google AI (so trust this as much as you would trust Daisy, but it could be accurate, you never know), the guitar was a 145 year-old Martin parlor guitar worth $40,000 (I assume USD... that would be about 57,000 Canadian as of my quick search about 30 seconds ago).

Adam Vialpando

I was first introduced to him as Esteban Reyes in Weeds.

Pam Nail

Before Morricone decided what The Thing needed was a John Carpenter-ish score. :)

Dominique Cloet

Hi everybody! I'm pretty new here, is there a Cinebinge discord or a better place for recommendations? If not, here are a couple: -Continue the View Askewniverse -Zach and Miri make a porno (Also by Kevin Smith) -National Treasure 1 & 2 -Bowfinger

Mastervodo

This movie is so long, because each story is just soooooo drawn out. In a good way. It's patient. It draws you in. I could see you both just enraptured listening to them, seeing how they would go! Great storytelling!

Jeff K.

I really need to give this movie another try. I love almost every QT movie, but this one was soured for me by one of the worst theater-going experiences I've ever had (loud people cackling and yelling shit like "Yeah, fuck that bitch up" every time Daisy gets punched in the face, etc). Being in a bad mood while watching a group of extremely unlikable characters (while being played by AMAZING actors) was just not a good combination.

Jeff K.

@JBK - Yeah, JJL's reaction fully breaks character, loses the accent, and looks genuinely shocked because of exactly what you said about how she knew that Kurt had just destroyed an incredibly valuable guitar without realizing it. It was a very genuine "Oh shit!" moment for her.

Dan Holmes

saw this opening night in chicago at a 70mm special screening, got a cool limited book with my ticket :)

Maiki

Welcome! Best ways for recommendations are either in the comments of the weekly poll or via DM.

David Melo

I got to see it in 70mm the way Quentin wanted and in that version that was an overture and an intermission before Chapter 4. Even the narration that Quentin has mentions the 15 minutes

Dirt_Merchant

My favorite QT film. So glad you finally got to check it out!

Brandon Meng

I love Tarantino and this is the first time I'm seeing this movie, thanks to you both! Not my favorite from him, but has all the quirk, creativity, dialogue, and music that I've come to love from QT movies (especially Apple Blossom by the White Stripes towards the beginning). If you enjoyed General Smithers played by Bruce Dern in this film, I IMPLORE you to see Nebraska. Best father-son movie ever, light hearted, hilarious, and so, so unique. 10/10 for me!

Scott CineRam

Sure, but I'm concerned about the final scene. It's very upsetting and would need to be heavily censored.

Daniel Bjork

Fun fact: the score for this movie was done by Ennio Morricone and won him is only oscar at the age of 86. Morricone is best known for his work on spaghetti westerns, particularly his work on the man with no name trilogy and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Brandon Meng

What Maiki said is accurate but seriously +1 for Zach and Miri, I love that movie.

John DelVecchio

Watch “Easy Money” a funny Rodney Dangerfield - Joe Pesci movie, JJ Leigh plays the daughter.

Mikeo8575

The guitar that got smashed was a 145 year old Martin guitar from Martin's own museum. It was supposed to be swapped out for a double but Kurt Russel, obviously, didn't realize that it hadn't been switched out. JJ Leigh's reaction was genuine and if you watch the scene again, you can see her look towards where Tarantino was sitting a she shrieked.

Michael Robayo

This has become my personal favorite Tarantino film. I'm so glad you guys have finally watched it. Please do Death Proof soon!

Jacob King

The Magnificent 7. You gotta go in order.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

What if “The Thing” was a Western set in Reconstruction Era America? Naw but on the real, I’d put this as my 2nd favorite Tarantino flick after “Jackie Brown”, love that y’all made time for this one.

Happy Hanukkah

The final scene is indeed notorious, but I'll drily note that the movie suitably builds up to it.

Kron0n

This is my absolute favourite of his movies. The atmosphere is amazing and the actors and the calibre of their work were incredible.

Sergio Meira

Tarantino? Hm... I haven't watched this movie yet. So I think I'll watch with G&S Patreon version, and then see what I think. I must admit I'm not a big fan of Tarantino, though.

Jeff I.

One of my favorite little bits about this movie is how Oswaldo's accent changes from very posh (upper class) to his real working-class Cockney accent for the few lines where he doesn't need to put on act. Also, if you go back and watch when Oswaldo gives his alias, you can see Daisy is next to John Ruth smiling and trying not to laugh at Oswaldo's 'new' accent and silly fake name.

Godrick

Quinton Taratino did an extended version on netflix. Instead of a 2 hour movie, it's four 1 hour episodes. The extended version is so much better then the movie version, I have trouble remembering how it made sense any other way.

Russell Richardson

How in the shit do you miss the guitar trivia?!? Simone, please whip George into shape!🤣
