For more Tarantino/Kurt Russell I highly recommend the Grindhouse double feature (Death Proof & Planet Terror)

Justtired

“Who let the dogs out?”

8bitAndy

Really famous songs that have a lyric that shows up in everyday conversation... "It's been awhile". So disappointed in Simone for not saying this one! lol

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

I’d say “Working 9 to 5, what a way to make a living” organically comes up the most in my neck of the woods haha. Also been a while since checking this out but definitely a romp. Shot in 70mm as well and looks terrific! Ennio Morricone won his only non-honorary Oscar for the score - considering the man did “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and “The Mission” (among many others) that’s pretty bonkers. He was a genius and truly missed.

Monica Alarcon

When you watch Death Proof you gotta watch it as it was released, as the Grind house double feature with Robert Rodriguez' Planet Terror complete with fake trailers. Please keep it in mind...

REDR58

Jennifer Jason Leigh has had a number of really good roles. Just from the stuff in my collection I would recommend in no particular order: “Single White Female” (1992) where she stars with Bridget Fonda (who was in Jackie Brown). “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” (1982) “Rush” (1991) “Short Cuts” (1993) “Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle” (1994) She also appears in “Twin Peaks: The Return” with Tim Roth (of Pulp Fiction fame).

Everytime i see this movie makes me want to play Red Dead Redemption 2

Shane Darcy

Lets go! It’s always xmas day for me when a new Tarantino or Fincher drops on Cinebinge 🤙

Deadly Ramon

Death Proof sometimes comes up in this channel's polls, but it seems like it's the least favorite Tarantino movie among those who participate, and thus it never gets selected. I hope to someday see the Cinebinge hosts react to it, as I think it's a unique take on the slasher horror genre, and to the second half of the Grindhouse double feature, Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror.

I once hurt someone's feelings by saying "cool story bro" cause he assumed I was sarcastic. You can't say the words "human being" without making me think of the Greendale sports team. English is so saturated with phrases burdened with specific meanings from pop culture, you may as well a) ignore all of it and take people's words at face value or b) construct a new language based only on memes. (Just don't try to do both at once.) I've watched this movie five times and each time I'm sure I'll never want to watch it again. The gore and violence I don't mind, but more that all the nice characters are dead before it even starts. I want a movie about Minnie and her pals, the hatefulness is just so much. But then I come back cause it's so well made. A haberdasher is a hat maker by the way.

akaTheBARON Tokyo Drift

I work in "Yall ready for this?" in conversations any chance I get, and I do it for the sole purpose that the song of the same name starts to play in their head.

rick trevino

been waiting for this reaction for years. i love this movie and probably my 2nd fave tarantino film.

Grandalf

OK, Simone listen, I'm fuggin 50 ok? Yes, YEARS OLD. You can't just go throwin around catchy as fuck ear worms from my pre-teen years like that! How long will it be before I stop humming to myself about Josie's vacation far away?! I'll start the bidding at 2 weeks ;)

Monica Alarcon

Oh man I was hoping you'd read the trivia bit about the guitar. This one: The guitar that Daisy Domergue played while singing "Jim Jones at Botany Bay" was a highly-valued antique from the 1870s, on loan from the Martin Guitar Museum and worth some $40,000. At the end of the song, the script called for John "The Hangman" Ruth (Kurt Russell) to grab the guitar and smash it to pieces. Six replicas were built for the shoot, and were supposed to be substituted for the real instrument for the smashing shot, but due to a miscommunication, Kurt Russell was not informed, and destroyed the original guitar before anyone could stop him. Jennifer Jason Leigh's shocked reaction to this is genuine, and can be seen in the released film. The Martin Guitar Museum subsequently announced they would never loan guitars to film shoots again

James MacDonald

I wish the trivia section was more complete. You missed the part about the guitar being smashed.

Polecat21

my fav Jennifer Jason Leigh movie is Dolores Claiborne

Polecat21

I think this the 1st time I've seen this since I heard the story. You can see Jennifer Jason Leigh really trying to stop him. It wouldn't make sense for her character to be so animated in trying to keep him from smashing it unless you know the story behind it.

W T

Yes, this happens all the time in writing, both feeding into preconceptions and subverting them is a huge part of what makes a script or a book what it is - also maybe it's a matter of "turn down for what" not being awfully idiomatic, all things and contexts considered. Phonotactics, though. You can get away with all of those if the line is performed differently enough, so... it depends. Reading allows for a different type of leeway than (voice) acted stuff, too.

Justin James

"Death Proof" is worth checking out, and not only for the sake of completionism! It's stylistically more like a bizarre "B-movie", but a great one in my opinion!

Jonas Buckner

I got to see this movie during the national roadshow tour of the 70mm format on a full IMAX screen. It included an extra 4-minute overture with more shots of the mountains and landscapes. If you think it was beautiful and the music was great on a computer, you should see it on a 50-foot-tall screen with 44-speaker surround sound.

Tom Hess

The new ones are good, but I'm surprised you guys haven't watched any classic spaghetti westerns on this channel yet. - Once Upon A Time in the West (1968) - The Dollars trilogy (Fistful of dollars, for a few dollars more, the good the bad and the ugly) - My Name is Nobody (1973). More of an homage/parody, but still counts. - Django (the real one, from 1966). Or maybe some Howard Hawks westerns: - Rio Bravo (1959) - El Dorado (1966)

Drew

On common phrases that are poisoned by pop songs: “First things first” (I’m the realest🎶) Completely locked in my brain, I can’t *not* hear it

G P

Recommending the Dollars Trilogy, or at least The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

djKENTO

It’s so funny that you mention old epics… Tarantino bought lenses used in one of those classic old epics just for this movie since it’s on 70mm

Allen Pass

Hey George, you and Simone need to react to Epic the Musical! It's a musical retelling of Homer's poem The Odyssey. I think it's in both of your wheelhouses! Still hoping you guys will react to Brightburn and Sinister one day!

Grandalf

If the only Tarantino flick you have left is DEATHPROOF, then that actually works out well. The spunky 6-horse stage driver has a bigger role in that film. She's Zoe Bell a stuntwoman from New Zealand and has some INSANE stunts in Deathproof.

Amelie W

Oh yeah, I thought it was ironic since Minnie doesn't allow hats. But it's symbolism! When she's gone the hats come on, and the hate.

droodly

How about "The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)" for more Jennifer Jason Leigh? Also starring Tim Robbins, and written\directed by the Coen bothers and co-written by Sam Raimi!

Justin James

Can't agree more! The Dollars Trilogy, and afterwards "Once Upon A Time In The West"!

Justin James

Absolutely! It's about time we got some Sergio Leone! From Sergio Corbucci, I'd also add The Great Silence. And on the Hollywood Western front, The Searchers. George and Simone, if you like the remix, wait till you hear the original!!!

BigGuy209

if you want a younger version of Jennifer Jason Leigh y’all need to check out Fast Times at Ridgemont High. She also narrates the audiobook for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: A Novel. A really good book to read or listen to the audiobook with Jennifer. The audiobook is on Spotify if you have Spotify. You guys definitely need to watch Death Proof for Zoë Bell. She plays Six-Horse Judy in this movie.

djKENTO

So a big fact about this movie that I’m shocked you didn’t get to at the end is that the guitar Kurt Russel breaks is a literal priceless piece of art on loan from the Martin Guitar Museum. It was 145 year old classic Mexican guitar. Go back and watch the look on everyone’s face. They’re all shocked and that’s real. That’s the “Viggo’s Toe” moment of the movie.

Philipp Roensch

Oh I loved this rewatch, I find this is one of my Tarantino favorites. So theatrical, so intense and brutal, but full of interesting characters and the tension just keeps building. Even if I know the twists by now, there is genuine glee and payoff with all the insane character moments. I just love when Samuel says "let's slow things down, waaaay down" half way into a slow burn movie :D. I even put it on my widescreen monitor again, since on the TV this aspect just looks to small! It is so epic, for a chamber play, there is always something going on in the background.

Philipp Roensch

Ennio Morricone is famously the composer of all those western classics that inspired Tarantino, yet this is the first movie he did come out of retirement for. And yes, he found previous Tarantino movie too sloppy using his scores, but like the mood of this one.

Chris Miller

Touching on the narration by Quentin in the middle of the movie. In certain theaters there was a Roadshow version that was 20 minutes longer than this release and had a 15 minute intermission in the middle of it. When we came back from the intermission the narration was to recap what happened prior to the intermission. It made perfect sense at the time, but it seems out of place in this version.

Andrew Roach

Love this movie, it gets better on each viewing but I believe it is not too well regarded and did poorly at the box office. The composer is best known for his legendary score of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Even if you have not seen the movie you will recognize the music assuming you are indeed alive lol. There are 3 main set pieces in the score and you should watch the movie if you have not seen it. The trilogy is optional, I never really cared for the first two, they are fine but the third is the one everyone knows. Also Death Proof should also be watched for sure, as others have said the chipper girl killed in this movie is a Tarantino staple in his movies as a stunt woman but she has a bigger actual role in the Death Proof while still doing crazy shit. I believe she did stunt work for Uma in Kill Bill and she even had a small role in Django as part of that gang with dogs, she wore a mask over her lower face.

Jacob King

Coincidentally, yesterday I learned in Kill Bill Zoe Bell actually did the thing in the scene where the bride cuts a baseball in half.

Grandalf

Aww man, I've heard that before but didn't connect the stunt to Zoe. That's great 👍

Jesse Coombs

Also, Six-Horse Judy is played by Zoe Bell. She was the stunt double for Uma in Kill Bill as well as being in Django Unchained. Even better, she's the star of "Deathproof".

Jesse Coombs

Jennifer Jason Leigh is an amazing actress. She doesn't get enough credit. I'm sure people have mentioned "The Hudsucker Proxy" (which she is great in, but also you should watch "Desk Set" first so you can catch the references.) Her masterpiece is Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, which would be another amazing watch.

Simon Pegged Me

Zoë Bell also played Janet, the stunt coordinator's wife Brad Pitt was suppose to avoid if he wanted to keep his job in Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.Kurt Russell played her husband.

Odd Thomas

You guys still need to watch the most Samuel L. Jackson movie of them all: The Long Kiss Goodnight. George, if you like whodunnits, Identity (2003) would be my recommendation.

Brant

Second this. Both movies are very fun, but even better when watched back to back as a double feature

WalrusWallace

Yes please consider watching Death Proof in the future. It's one of my favorites of Quentin Tarantino's movies

Logan Kerlee

Solid reaction, you two! I really enjoyed myself, watching this with you both on here. :)

D. T. Nelson

You missed the trivia about the guitar Jennifer Jason Leigh played on. It was a 150-year-old, $40,000 antique on loan to the production. Kurt Russell, not knowing the guitar was the expensive antique and not the replica, smashed the guitar. Jennifer Jason Leigh's reaction was genuine at seeing the historical artifact destroyed. The Martin Guitar Museum has stated it will no longer loan out guitars of that stature.

maxthesilent

hoping for the accountant to show up on the polls but i still haven't found what i'm looking for

AJ Lynch

I think about a particular song every time I here "Where did they come from? Where did they go?"

Mark Polo

Recommendation: Annihilation (2018) quite a unique sci-fi with Jennifer Jason-Leigh.

Jared Spotted Eagle

I can't start a story by saying "This one time..." without someone interrupting with "at band camp?"

HansD

They don't know who Ennio Morricone was, holy effing Christ... Is that legal in Canada?!

HansD

... also, 'Death Proof' when? Possibly Kurt Russel's best performance + Rosario Dawson and Zoë Bell (the Kiwi in this one.)

Donna Castellano

Haven't seen it mentioned in the comments but all of Tarantino's films exist in their own universe. Pete Hicox, the Englishman, is - I believe - the great, great grandfather of Archie Hicox, from Inglorious Basterds.
