Turtle-man 2023

All the support in the world but no thanks, traumatizing myself once with this movie is enough for me thank you very much. Beautiful story tho. Too sad

Smanuelle

Is there a full version? because this one movie is probably my absolute favorite and I'd really like to watch the full thing with you guys.

Ira K.

Oh no, I promised myself never to watch this movie again...

Turtle-man 2023

I'm right there with you Ira, I commented that a little while ago lol

Fritz

My trauma with this movie is so deep, I might not be able to even watch the YT version

Matthew Richson

I don’t think I’ll ever watch this movie, just from reading the Wikipedia summary it feels devastating enough(though that was years ago). I’ll just respect it from a distance…

Dwight Scarn

I saw this in Japanese class in high school. Didn't think an anime could get me so emotional and down.

Cinebinge

Hi Smanuelle, yes there is! Simply click on the tags listed below the posted video and it will show you every video with the same tag. In this case, the two versions of Grave of the Fireflies.

Onno Smits

I hope you're aware that posting three Studio Ghibli movies to your YouTube channel will get it deleted instantly.

Turtle-man 2023

It really is a gorgeous movie and I have suggested it to people to watch at least once. Always with the warning that is is heavy and to always keep that in mind, but i do understand your hesitation.

Inkpendude

Ok this movie is depressing an all that but...Simone thinking this was a cute movie and then a few moments later she has the most disturbed look on her face is so funny to me lmao

David

I started tearing up just seeing the title. I'm not watching this, because I need to preserve the portion of my soul that this movie took from me the first time I saw it, but you got my support.

JBK405

I've heard it said that this is a movie that everybody in the world needs to see...once. And then never again. There was a plan to use bats as incendiary devices in WWII, and the US military spent several years working on the project, but it was never deployed. The idea was that bombs would be attached to the bats, they would be loaded into airplanes and "dropped" over Japan, and the bats would fly into buildings and the bombs would detonate while they were roosting. It was cancelled in 1944 without ever being used (Although not before they accidentally blew up the test facility once). The Soviet Union bomb dogs were actually used. "In America, radiation makes superheroes. In Japan, radiation makes monsters". The popular culture always reflects the experiences of the society that it emerges from.

Prince Mora

They are not ready for Casualties of War.

Duncan Carlton

Oh what a surprise, wish more reactors would take this masterpiece on.

dys

They mentioned it on the Your Name reaction (saying they were fine with anime in general but wouldn't do Ghibli movies for this specific reason), they're definitely aware, so I'm surprised they're doing this one.

Itbewhatitbe

maybe they found a work around. i aint complaining as long as theyre careful. in any case this is only their first one

Tom Hess

Recommendation: - Pom Poko (1994). Same studio, same director. Not as well-known as this one or Miyazaki's, but it's absolutely excellent. Would recommend that you learn a little bit about the tanuki (japanese racoon dogs) before watching the film.

Viktor M

This is the only movie which i have black listed for me. Its one of the best of all time but i never will see it again.

ShōNuff3K

First time you guys reacted to a movie I haven't seen. Not gonna watch...yet.

ShōNuff3K

Ahhhhggg it's on Netflix! Watching now.

Mike FromOz

They are completely 100% not ready for "Come and See".

Mike FromOz

We really do need to have a weeks selection of lovely, heartfelt and spirit warming movies just for Simone. All this emotional work one after another can take its toll. We also love you too, George, so something which you would find heartfelt and cheering as well would be great. That goes the same for all the patreon folks out here as well. Take care of your spirits, folks. It's a rough world out there.

otto

The antidote for this movie is Frieren: Beyond Journey's End . It's basically Japanese D&D , you guys would love it .

Paddy Thompson

I personally love Grave of the Fireflies, but I love it for what it is and it is a real gut punch. It is about as depressing a film could possibly be, but the fact that this movie can make you feel such things and bring up such emotions is what makes it so special! Good on ya's for watching it. Thankfully Ratatouille is the next watch, a very nourishing movie in every sense of the word

El_Zilcho22

The first and only time I've seen this all the way through I just cried the whole time. Also I have both the green tin and red tin with Setsuko picture version of the Sakuma Drops.

howtocookazombie (Stan)

Such a sad movie. One of my "favorite" movies of all times. I bought two candy boxes from the movie, which you can still order online. One is empty already, the other will stay closed. The candies are not very sweet, however. Here for comparison. There are some minor differences in appearance: https://i.imgur.com/xn13QIe.jpeg

howtocookazombie (Stan)

Oh... I didn't knew that it was a limited edition and that the company, which produced these candy cans, closed January 2023. Good that I bought two of them... 😬😅

Tyler Foster

I know some other channels have gotten away with Ghibli, or seem to, but I'm still surprised this one is going to YouTube.

rictus grin

you should also check out the british animation When the Wind Blows, it follows an elderly couple during WW3

Bookwormy

You guys made it through. Please watch many silly things now.

Tom Hess

I know I'm a year late, but to answer Simone's question: "What do you do after watching this film?" Fun fact: In Japan, Grave of the Fireflies was released on the same day as... My Neighbour Totoro. So you could go into the theater, watch GotF, come out suicidal, go back in to watch Totoro, and come out happy again. And have yourself an emotional roller coaster of a day.
