I'm definitely still watching 🙂 - though admittedly not all episodes from season 3. There are a few great one's left, though, like Elaan of Troyus (taking a lot from the Taming of the Shrew) and my favorite underrated Trek episode "The Cloud Minders". Love that you guys are doing this - there will definitely be a huge uptick for the movies (especially the even-numbered ones) and TNG. P.S.: I was thinking a lot about my dad recently who we lost to cancer almost three years ago... and I like to think of it the way Simone does. The times where you cry just show how much love was between you, and how much they're still with you. Hugs ❤️

Monica Alarcon

Don't worry, I'm here for the duration. Looking forward to the animated series and the movies and TNG and the rest...

Dirge Girl

I'm also haunted by the ghosts of departed loved ones... both parents and pets who visit in dreams... bittersweet 'n a little maddening... the Garfield quote is helpful 'n I'll try to keep it in mind. Thank you for passing it along. Star Trek (Lower Decks) is helping me tremendously in these interesting times... so, getting to see Those Old Scientists get up to their whacky adventures each week with you guys is an added bonus. I vote for keeping the trek going... I read another patron did the math 'n this could add up to be a six-year-mission if you were to watch it all... I hope you do, or pick 'n choose, either way, please and thank you. < Vulcan Salute >

You saw an Andorrian (blue guy with antennae) and a Tellarite (guy with funny nose) in the season 2 episode "Journey to Babel".

Monica Alarcon

Simone: not those two particular characters but there's been other Andorians and Tellarites in Lower Decks.

About the interest in these OG Star Trek episodes, speaking only for me (because who else can I speak for) You are right... but not right. I'm still interested in watching these last TOS episodes simply because I haven't seen them all. My exposure to TOS was pretty random. The afternoon reruns in syndication didn't show every episode, or follow airdate order. I'm pretty sure I only ever saw the same 30-40 episodes repeated ad nauseum. I'm seeing many of these for the first time right along with you guys. In another six weeks I'll be able to say I've seen the entire TOS series. However, I can't deny that I am extremely excited to move on to the movie (well... most of the movies), and the TNG series (though I'm not looking forward to the first season which can best be compared to the experience the hobbits had trudging through the swamp at the beggining of Fellowship of the Rings ("What do they eat when they can't get Hobbit?") Although it will not be the best season of television (the writers and actors will still be trying to find their characters), it has some important moments. Unlike TOS which is purely episodic, TNG is both episodic and has overarching plotlines. Things that happen in earlier episode can, and do, return in later episodes. (this is even more true for later series like DS9 and Voyager).

Monica Alarcon

Starfleet's been around since 2151 with the launch of the first Enterprise. This episode takes place in 2268.

I had a feeling that you'd get a bit of a drop-off after Seasons 1 and 2, but I'm still here. I had previously seen very little of Season 3, so almost everything this season is new to me. I subscribed once I found out that you were watching Star Trek—like Simone, I love TNG, and I can't wait for you to get there. But I do have fond memories of watching TOS growing up, and I figured this was a good opportunity to revisit the series and see some episodes that I haven't seen before. My subscription is only for TV, but it'll definitely be upgraded to the movies when you hit the films—I'd expect others to do the same. I think you're really going to enjoy the movies. Some are better-regarded than others, but all have something to recommend them.

Please keep going and I miss Simone’s singing!!!

I am still here and watching trek with you. Lost my mom a year ago so best advice: smoke more weed=dream less.. I feel ya Simone..the feels are rough, and I know you will find your peace...prob what she would have wanted.. I enjoy watching you two because you still surprise me-you could be the only channel to actually like Plato's Stepchildren, so wow-its the unpredictability that is so exciting.. That and you two friends letting us join you in watching these- Thank you Thank You Uhura offered her quarters because they were decorated in East African decor and thought the Doleman would appreciate it more than plain ol guest quarters.. France Nuyen (Elaan) had previously starred with William Shatner on Broadway for two years in the title role of The World of Suzie Wong. After a dubious initial opening - the play ran for more than 500 performances and was quite financially successful

I have nothing against you watching this, I really enjoyed TNG but I really don't care that much about TOS. However, it seems weird to me that you have a series like this running every single week and have the tuesday series switching from time to time, when you know that a lot people subscribe because of... Breaking Bad, Black Mirror, Shogun, Better Call Saul, etc. have those series run all the time and have the wednesday series (TOS) changing from time to time. I don't watch Shogun so, having TOS + Shogun is a no no for me.

Vellu

I've been watching along just a handful of selected episodes, mainly waiting for the movies as I think those are much more reaction-worthy and really took Trek on a new level. Maybe consider doing selected key-episodes on other series as the continuity isn't as strong as on shows like BCS.

Itbewhatitbe

i think you kind of got it backwards. or maybe you havent been around the community long enough to remember how the tv shows started. when they decided to start doing tv, it was a patron voted thing. but they chose to stagger the seasons because no matter which show won, a large portion of people will complain about how "i dont want this show for the next multiple months". so they decided to stagger them so that no one has to wait around too long to cast another vote for something they might like. look at views and comments of every BCS and Breaking Bad post, its less than 10% of votes casted each week. Then after years of that, they decided they want to add 1 more show to their schedule, but this time its what S&G wanted to watch, not what we dictate them and argue endlessly over, just something they wanted to watch for the fun of it and they landed on star trek. and thats it, the shows in rotation are shows we the patrons voted for but they keep it staggered so those who didnt get what they want dont have to wait too long. Star trek is just something extra they chose to do for fun at no cost to any of us. its literally just more content for no charge that we can watch or not.

Music

I’m still watching Star Trek. I’ve watched you guys on YouTube for awhile but joined Patreon & signed up for Paramont+ just to watch Star Trek with you. So, I definitely appreciate you continuing to watch the show.

mky

Still watching. I had seen most of the popular episodes before (both "good" popular and "omg the cheese" popular), but I've taken this opportunity to watch *all* of the episodes along with y'all, and oh boy it never ends, does it? ;) At this point, I'm looking forward to when we all can put TOS to bed and move on to the movies, etc. Cheers!

John M.

I am here entirely for Star Trek. :) If you're not feeling doing everything, perhaps the Popcorn in Bed approach of top 4 (or top 10 or whatever) from each season via vote? I'd love you to do that for TNG and DS9.

Actuarial Lurker

The actress playing Elaan was in South Pacific and The Joy Luck Club so a career spanning over 30 years

Actuarial Lurker

These two were part of the real CLUNKERS of Season 3. There ARE some good ones left

MacGuffinStuff

I'm still here! Lol, no but I have been enjoying it, these two I really enjoyed, but yeah I am anxiouslu waiting to move on to the movies and TNG. But I'm still having a good time 🤙

When not wearing green make-up and dancing, Yvonne Craig was Batgirl.

Kurt Hockenbury

Still watching along every Wednesday! As for the title of ep314, it comes from "Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad", which is a a 19th century English translation of an ancient Greek proverb.

Anthony Michaels

Millennial values are horrific. I can’t wait until western civilization gets over its suicidal self-loathing phase

SpankTheMonk

So ToS is almost 60 years ago, and were of their time and also not. I think those that take the plunge are going to hopefully get to better enjoy the great follow through of the later Star Trek timeline before JJ Abram’s and his crew’s Secret Magic Box gets all over it. And at the very least I am glad for Simone and George having gotten an opportunity to watch - with us so to speak. 🖖

SpankTheMonk

I think, as I have mentioned here and other places, even if all the movies aren’t fire, they each show the bond of the characters and the inner as much as the outer journey this crew and actors took on. 🖖

SpankTheMonk

Elaan of Troyius: Yeah Kirk isn’t so much the ambassador Captain like Picard, however I love the line, “if I can accomplish the mission by turning and running…” that is such a mature way of dealing with a fight that I have heard from military special ops- it is not cowardly to prevent your death or others through non-escalation. I think this episode is another instance of someone needing to inform the Star Trek crew of the tear thing. This episode reminds me of the women’s costumes in ToS - what crazy cosplay the first conventions must have been. Oh my yes there are schematics put there, love this book: The Star Trek Encyclopedia: A Reference Guide to the Future by written by Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda - Michael designed the LCARs interface design on TNG as mentioned before. I don’t know if the thing that you have as normal rocks is a treasure to us was used in TV but this maybe one of the first instances? Simone well done on the love for the ship - bravo 🙌

Cory Garron

Exactly. I came to post the same response.

Simon Pegged Me

Still here, mostly because someone said there'd be spankings; still loving watching Trek with you (especially when my hero, Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, inventor of the Capella IV prenatal slap protocol, is in the episode doing other Bones-type things.)

dc

I hope they do everything. Season 1 of TNG won't be that great, but Seasons 2 onward are worth watching every episode. Even the filler episodes make the show feel lived-in—something that TV in the modern era has somewhat lost. Watching the show find its feet is something special, too.

Stephen Morris

This is a high point of my week. Can’t wait for the movies and tng.

Benfica Sarajevo

But, in the past, they decided to stop Black Mirror on their side because they weren't enjoying it. So, what's the point of us voting in what we prefer?

Itbewhatitbe

and how is them forcing themselves to continue any better? why would you or anyone want to watch 2 ppl sit there and be unhappy and not enjoy something? for what? just for completion? its not like BM is an overarching story, its episodic. and they ended after the good seasons anyways. on top of which, what they stopped a show they werent enjoying so there for theres no point all together in anything? like i dont even know what youre trying to say or achieve. if 1 show wasnt to their liking there for nothing else matters? what are you 12? lol

StonyD

Yes! More Trek! MORE! : )

Logan Kerlee

Right there with you on TNG! I'm nearly at my wits end with this show. :P

Benfica Sarajevo

How do you know (or how would they know) if they wouldn't enjoy the rest of the series? Do you think people that voted on Black Mirror don't have a good taste? Do you really think that if they didn't enjoy the first series of BCS they would stop? What I mean is that every decision is made based on views, nothing else, and that's fine, to say otherwise is a bit weird.

Itbewhatitbe

Bro when normal people find themselves to no longer be enjoying a thing they're doing, they stop doing it. Thats the normal thing to do. I was gonna ask why are you still here if you hate it so much, but I guess the fact that you seem to have a hard time grasping this basic concept even children understands answers that question. So let me put it as simply as possible, You don't actually have to be here if you aren't enjoying it, you are actually allowed to stop. Just like they are allowed to stop watching something they aren't enjoying.

BubbleTrouzers

Also still here watching! I've never watched any Star Trek (except for the newer movies) and am enjoying the trip with you so far even if some of it is pretty bad. I'm curious if you are going to to watch everything that's been released in order, the next being the animated series.

SpankTheMonk

Yeah they mentioned it on a couple of reactions. Animated, ToS movies and eventually/probably Next Gen.

SpankTheMonk

With out spoilers on The Motion Picture- Bones, “Now, what do you suggest we do? Spank it?”

Simon Pegged Me

I'm going to laugh a little harder when he says that line now. Thanks. 🖖🏿

gfixler

Surprised no one mentioned the guard who was taken prisoner in Whom Gods Destroy was Keye Luke. I'll let Wikipedia do the details: He portrayed Lee Chan, the "Number One Son" in the Charlie Chan films, the original Kato in the 1939–1941 Green Hornet film serials, Brak in the 1960s Space Ghost cartoons, Master Po in the television series Kung Fu, and Mr. Wing in the Gremlins films. He was in a ton of other things, too, and was even supposed to be Dr. Noonien Soong in ST:TNG, but fell ill. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keye_Luke I loved him in Sidekicks (1986 TV show, not the Chuck Norris/Jonathan Brandis film from 1992) when I was a boy, which was about a policeman (Gil Gerard, of Buck Rogers fame, another favorite), who somehow adopts a young Asian boy, who's a karate master, specifically The Last Electric Knight (Ernie Reyes Jr.), who helps solve crimes with his [ridiculous, but amazing to me as a little boy] karate moves, which would never work against adults, but of course, always do.

Paul Ogilvie

Your Trek reactions are my favorite show of the week.

SpankTheMonk

I just watched this episode with the channel reaction- and I was just thinking he looked so familiar. 🙌

SpankTheMonk

Like George said they have a variety of mental issues. I know that George Lucas has an interesting view on Star Trek, since he created Star Wars he has included references to Star Trek in different ways. Someone tell me if I am wrong but Star Trek ToS made the Green Alien Dancer famous? This is Kirk’s fun acting! Psychological ailments are physical by nature I would believe it is just that we don’t have the advanced knowledge of that level of brain impairment- yet.

SpankTheMonk

Question to Simone and George what would be your favorite position with in the Star Trek Universe, if within Starfleet and via the Academy? You can pick even if you don’t have the technical life experience. And what rank would you want to be?

Brent bmc_comix

Unironically Bones is genuinely one of my favorite characters in all of Trek! A simple country doctor in space! :)

Simon Pegged Me

There is nothing ironic about my love of Bones as a character. Although my comments are written in jest, they are sincere in that regard.

Logan Kerlee

lol, I'm sure that they're seeing your requests.
