Mike Medaugh

Can't wait to see your reaction to Lalo. Buckle up. He is awesome!!

Benfica Sarajevo

It's working! :) Sorry to bother you on this.

Cinebinge

no worries! please do email Patreon support about the lack of notifications though as that seems to be another new bug on the platform that they need to be made aware of and fix.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Ah yes we meet Tony Dalton… I will say no more. These two episodes are terrific for sure

DinChild

Enter Lalo...

Jeff K.

It's Lalo time. I know I'm not the only one who's been counting down the episodes.

Jeff K.

Tony Dalton is so effortlessly charming it's wild. He'd make such a great Bond villain.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Yeah thought the same. Gives off the 70s charming villain chops for sure

Maiki

Episode 8 is great anyway, with the introduction of one of the greatest characters of the whole show, but I'll always cherish it because of a certain football jersey :)

John

This has been a great season. As you prepare a poll for your next mini-show. I wanted to suggest The Good Place 22 minute episodes 12-13 episodes in season 1. If you want to go the other way Luther season 1 6-60 minute episodes, fantastic Idris Elba

Jomero

The Good Place has become one of my favorite shows, if not my favorite show. The writing, the acting, the pacing, and the conclusion, all are really, really good. But if you do watch The Good Place, you'll need to try extra hard to avoid spoilers. Because that show is full of them along with many twists and turns, almost every episode. It's a difficult show to ask "where are you?" in terms of watching it, because you could easily spoil them if they are just one episode behind where you think.

8bitAndy

I like to think what Kim is going through now with Jimmy is similar to what Chuck went through with him when they were younger. Starting out in his corner, going out on a limb or two for him and taking a few falls, eventually coming to realize how far Jimmy's willing to go to get the things he wants (and being shocked by that). Of course, Chuck is very different from Kim, and he was never going to accept Jimmy's behaviors, let alone join in with them, so his only option was to try and stop him. Kim, obviously, is taking a different approach. Chuck failed miserably at trying to be the guardrails on the road of Jimmy's life while Jimmy sped recklessly down it. Now we get to see if Kim is able to get any better results with Jimmy by hopping in the car with him and trying to do some of the steering.

Jeff K.

“A bunch of random IDs or is he originally Canadian?” Actually George, the actor who plays Nacho IS Canadian. He’s from Quebec and got his start doing theater in Montreal.

mojo shivers

Speaking of making fun of Manitoba, I actually had a project in sixth grade to demonstrate how stupid it was to be biased against a group of people based on where they lived. We all picked a place—city, county, &c.. and then we all had to concoct the most ludicrous and exaggerated superstitions about them. I chose Manitoba and I did two more pages than anyone else about why Manitobans are crazy delusional assholes that deserve no respect. It’s funny—I have lingering mistrust of the whole province that is super irrational. It usually takes about a beat or two to realize that that hatred isn’t real. I just got so invested in talking crap about Manitoba that it feels like I actually have beef with them.

Stugotz

And Lalo has joined the chat. FYI, he's mentioned briefly in Breaking Bad, episode 2x8 when Walt and Jesse are threatening Saul in the desert.

Jeff K.

The Good Place is one of the most perfect sitcoms, start to finish, ever made.

Lyle Heidrich

At last! Lalo is one of the best characters in the Breaking Bad universe :)

Jeff K.

"He looks like he's going to challenge you to a sword duel." It's funny you say that about that particular actor, George...

Alan Pownall

I'm not sure Kim was shutting down with Jimmy as much as she is pretty shutdown in general, the only time we really see her happy is with Jimmy, which is a problem.

Superpotroast

The 'Big Rock Candy Mountain' song is also in O Brother Where Art Thou..Though the show has a much more old-fashioned version ..

Actuarial Lurker

Instead of taking the German crew to a strip club they should have done what the welders did in El Camino and bring in call girls. They could have used a neutral location

Actuarial Lurker

You won't even notice that Lalo is even there....yeah right!

Actuarial Lurker

Simone: The Super Lab DID have an elevator in Breaking Bad. They used it to bring down barrels and heavy items

Actuarial Lurker

Huell- superhero, pillar of his Church..."Shame on You!"

Stugotz

yeah, it's where Walt came down to rescue Jesse after he killed Gus

Cartoons ReAct

I think the Santa Clause joke was a reference to the original movie Miracle on 34th Street

Actuarial Lurker

What is ironic is that the actor Michael Mando who plays Nacho WAS born in Canada. His parents travelled the world and he moved to more than a dozen countries as a child before becoming a dual Canadian and US citizen

Tay Schumaker

I’m really surprised by how much you two are wanting Kim to leave Jimmy.

Horadriel

he's here guys! Im so excited that he's finally here <3

Henry Sanchez

If you guys like song montages or however you want to describe it… Sons of Anarchy (my all time favorite show) has a bunch. I recommend that as the next big show

Carlos H

it makes sense. They want what's best for Kim.

Actuarial Lurker

George and Simone: Lalo/Eduardo is ANOTHER cousin of Tuco. Abuelita from the opening Season Episode 1 is Uncle Tio/Hector's MOTHER. The Twins are the adopted kids of Hector's sibling, we see the flashback in Breaking Bad where he trains them to value family/blood over money, Tuco and Lalo are the kids of yet ANOTHER sibling of Hector. Joaquin (who Jesse shoots as they are feeing the poolside poisoning in Breaking Bad Salud) is the Great Grandson of Abuelita and Grandson of Hector. Lalo is next level. Nacho is having someone inserted OVER him since Tuco knifed someone and attacked a prison guard and had his sentence extended. The Salamancas wanted FAMILY to run the US outpost...

Philipp Roensch

Yeah, he is so stealthy with the radio on blast :D

Philipp Roensch

I believe thematically it fits as a worker's song and the drugs being "rock candy".

Actuarial Lurker

Simone and George: While the show was being broadcast THERE WAS a debate over whether Kim would survive since we do NOT see her or several other characters in Breaking Bad.

DCray

Yes there was an elevator in the lab. Walt comes down it and shoots those two goons right before him and Jessie burn down the lab.

Monica Alarcon

Epazote is delicious. My mom has an epazote plant and she uses it for pozole and other stuff. I highly recommend it. It's so funny that you said Lalo looks like he's going to challenge him to a sword fight since Tony Dalton plays The Swordsman in Marvel's Hawkeye and he'll be back for the new Daredevil. Speaking of Tony Dalton he's from Texas but he grew up in Mexico. He and his partner Kristof (forgot the last name) had a show that was like the Mexican Jackass, at least that's what I know him from. Then he was in Los Simuladores. But I highly recommend their movie Matando Cabos. I'm so glad he's making a career in Hollywood.

Carlos H

in BB we do see a freight elevator in the lab. Walt rides it down to rescue Jesse after Gus' death.

Jeff K.

Yep - the two names that Saul throws out are Lalo and Nacho. (Or he might have said Ignacio, but he was talking about Nacho; just can't remember which name he used.)

Philipp Roensch

God, this whole "congregation from the bayou" bit still slaps so hard. I get why Kim likes these plays with Jimmy :). Werner did a goof, but he is just lovable and friendly, did Mike take a half measure? "Hefeweizen" is wheat beer btw. appreciate Werner correcting the pronunciation.

BigGuy209

Talking about Michelle passing. I think y’all should watch Harriet the Spy (1996) & Inspector Gadget (1999)

Martin

Im not sure but i think saul has been refered to has the magic man in BB , also i think you guys are a little bit too harsh on jimmy it might clout your experiences of events in the show imo

Tay Schumaker

Yeah that’s fair, but it’s clear she likes Jimmy and she likes the way he makes her feel. Whether he’s good for her isn’t really the issue.

Kevin

Much better than Tuco!

Vwlss Nvwls

A bigger house is not the answer, George. Focus on what makes you happy, and do that as much as possible.

LengyelFlo

It's such a genius thing to say from George that, yes, we, the audience, are Kim - we know Jim is a shady guy, rationally we raise our eyebrows on some things he does, rationally we think they don't match, but on the other hand, we like him when he is nice, we root for him, and most importantly, we enjoy his swindles with a wide grin on our faces, just like Kim or eehhmmm ... Giselle!

Vwlss Nvwls

I think it was more than just Kim enjoying the con. I think she also just enjoyed sticking it to the D.A. for being such a b*tch about the whole thing.

Matt DSM

This. Plus how she (the D.A.) described Jimmy as a scumbag attorney when trying to initially negotiate a deal.

Itbewhatitbe

yeah but what if a bigger house IS what makes him happy

Homestar

Don't you mean Slipping Kimmy?

Justin Leone

Really surprised that George, Simpons aficionado that he is, didn't sing the line: "And then I go and spoil it all by doing something stupid like explode you"

Actuarial Lurker

Yes- Tony Dalton is in all the "Telenovela" with the "Ripe Honeys" as Jesse said to Tuco when he kidnapped them and took them to where he had Tio stashed

Actuarial Lurker

Correct- Henchman: "What? Can't you just use the stairs?" Walt": Bang

Justin Leone

I've always been a little confused about the freight elevator in the lab. We see it multiple times in breaking bad, and of course it would have to be there to transport heavy barrels of chemicals (and the forklift) to and from the lab. But I don't think it's ever shown on the surface. The stairway is hidden under an elaborate contraption that lifts up some heavy machinery, but how the hell do they hide an entire freight elevator? And it's a single story building, so there's no other reason for it to have one.

Helly R

It wasn't me it was Ignacio!

Jeff K.

Yep. The ADA referring to Jimmy as a scumbag 100% flipped the switch for Kim from "let's make a deal" mode to "fuck you" mode.

Sergio Meira

To see Kim actually bending the law in order to get what she wanted -- and all because the other attorney irritated her by calling Jimmy a 'disbarred attorney'... is both romantic and sad. So here's the question on Kim after these episodes: do you think this is Jimmy's influence? Is he 'perverting' Kim? The past cons were perhaps part of the road to this, but none of them involved doing something actually illegal, creating a situation ('Huell is a local hero!') that isn't true. And now... She game Jimmy the idea of doing all those letters and postcards. Kim, who, after watching the cake sitter video with Jimmy -- all laughs and giggles, right -- suddenly had that moment of clarity: this is fabricating evidence. Is Kim turning into Jimmy II? Up until then, like you guys, I was hoping Kim would up and leave at some point. You know, to keep her moral center, her soul. After the first scene in the second episode, though, I started asking myself if she was more like Jimmy than I had ever thought. (Remember how Skylar in Breaking Bad ended up quite capable of doing a few illegal things to help Walt? That's another thing I thought after realizing what her idea was.)

myinniemademedoit

I feel you guys are reading way too much into Kim and Jimmy’s relationship. He’s been nothing but supporting and uplifting to her, and she willingly partakes and even initiates some of the schemes they both pull. She’s not some innocent flower, and she doesn’t have the gift of foresight to see the future of BB, so to suggest Jimmy is bad for her is kind disingenuous. We know what Jimmy becomes, but we don’t know what becomes of Kim.

Itbewhatitbe

the character Kim doesnt need to know the future for the viewer, who knows the future , to know hes bad for her. wtf r u even talking about lol

Sergio Meira

I mean, who could be surprised that Kim finds it more exciting to do a con with Jimmy than to bust her ass at Schweikart & Cokely? Look at us: all throughout the 'letters from Coushatta' con we were all laughing and giggling and having a great time. If it's fun for us, why wouldn't it be fun for Kim? So now she's no longer saying "fabricating evidence." She's saying, look at me with this good, well-paying but basically extremely boring job... while my boyfriend has the time of his life just selling cellphones. Ooohh, maybe I need some more spice in my life?... All hail the birth of Dark Kim!

myinniemademedoit

What are you talking about? What has Jimmy done up until this point to damage Kim’s career? What has he done to harm her in any way? You could name multiple ways he’s helped and supported in every aspect of her life, but none to hurt her. She was one who came up with the plan to save Hell. It was her plan to fabricate evidence and commit mail fraud. And it was her at the end of this episode to say “Let’s do it again”. Also, the situation Huell found himself in, is not Jimmy’s fault. He had a permit and was legally allowed to sell phones there. Huell stupidly hit a cop with a bag of sandwiches. And the viewer doesn’t know Kim’s future. So you don’t know if she’s bad for him in actuality. Maybe they’re bad for each other? Who knows, since he have 2 whole seasons to go and no information on Kim to go off of it. You’d think 5 seasons of BB and 4 seasons of BCS at this point would convince you the writers and show runners know how to make more complex characters than you can comprehend. Jimmy certainly isn’t black and white, but neither is Kim.

Itbewhatitbe

bro, a person doesnt need to have done DIRECT harm to someone to be bad for them, you seriously that naïve? secondly, just because ramifications havent come up yet, it doesnt mean damage hasnt been done. thirdly, literally no one is saying Kim is purely innocent. you entirely made that up to be upset over. but one character is significantly less selfish, more kind hearted and generally a better person than the other. and like you said, both of them might be bad for eachother, so how does that negate Jimmy being bad for Kim? saying only one thing, does not automatically negate every other possibility you understand that right? if S&G says they love apples, do you immediately start arguing about how other fruits are just as good because they didnt list out every possible variant?

Michael Haug

It's Lalo!!!! Thats'who the fuck it is. Top 5 character in this universe

JBK405

I recommended "The Good Place" several shows ago, and I'll add support to this recommendation again. PHENOMENAL show and you two would love it.

JBK405

My comment on what Gus will or won't do to cover his tracks and deal with troublemakers, is not to say something is 'too evil' or 'too dark', but to instead say: Is any action too DUMB? Gus has always covered stuff up not just so it couldn't be proven against him, but so that nobody even SUSPECTED him. Nothing that would even stand out in the public eye. Remember, in BB it wasn't just that he avoided a conviction for his drug business, but he was so clean that even when Hank accused him the DEA flat-out refused to take it seriously. Whatever he does has to be subtle enough or well-disguised enough that a few years later nobody even tangentially connects him to it. That doesn't mean he won't do something big and dangerous, but he won't do something big and dangerous and stupid to get the FBI looking for the Unknown Suspect.

SpankTheMonk

Saul Called Today! Kim knows she picked up a scorpion, she is no frog i.e. unaware, but she has known him for years. So she is aware of his flaws, but isn’t innocent of Jimmy’s Mr. Hyde. She doesn’t know the full extent of it as we do, and the people like the DA see none of the good, only those specific instances hence the “scumbag” (also drama-ing it up for the show obviously).

John

They mentioned Roy Hobbs which is a reference to the Natural a fantastic movie, I would strongly recommend, though you could also add it to a sports poll

Jeff K.

Definitely agree with them watching The Natural. It's a movie that, while not about magical realism like Field of Dreams, kinda goes hand-in-hand with that film with the general vibe. It's realistic but mythological, basically.

SpankTheMonk

All fairness to Simone it is more George as of episode 7. But I completely understand and sympathize George’s point of view at this point.

Jeff K.

To borrow a phrase from Billy Crudup in Almost Famous, "I see what you did there... and I like it."

Vengeance

Kim probably never would’ve done anything like this if not for Jimmy. He gave her that one afternoon with lovable Ken. She was addicted then, just kept fighting it off, but she likes it too much.

JCR

I don’t think Jimmy is jealous of Kim. He’s jealous of S&C because they have her; He wants to be partnered with her, but she’s well established and comfortable at S&C. He was measuring her office to compare it to the one he has in mind for her, should they get Wexler, McGill happening again. He was behaving like a drunk, jealous boyfriend, only instead of being threatened by attention from another man, he’s jealous of the firm she works for instead of him.

MacGuffinStuff

I've been waiting for this episode, Coushatta, it's one of my favorites, so fun. I mean I don't support criminality but I do appreciate the creativeness of some criminals lol. And Kim is so awesome, when she's in wolf mode, and just replies "Okay", "I guess we'll see," or whatever she says, hate to be crude be she definitely has the biggus dickus in the room in those moments, cold badass. Btw the Roy Hobbs knocking out the stadium lights reference was from "The Natural" with Robert Redford, great baseball movie. But the two baseball movies at the top of my list for you to react to are "Major League", a great comedy AND sports movie; and "Bull Durham" with Kevin Costner, a more ironic baseball comedy, and sexy, Susan Sarandon is unforgettablely sexy with that North Carolina accent. Both I highly recommend.

Dan Holmes

why did i get NO notification of this? weird.

Joe Lazarus

Jimmy a black hole?? WOW.. That's a little much. That's more like Saul Goodman.

Dan Holmes

Harriet the Spy is my childhood, you should watch it on here in her honor

Dan Holmes

the lab in BrBa definitely had an elevator, that's how they got the equipment down there and in the season 4 finale how Walt gets down to free Jessie while he's chained up.

Brian Sittler

“Lalo didn’t send you?? No Lalo??” “Who?” “Oh thank god! Oh Christ!”

Rob Bob

Here it is! First off, Something Stupid has two of my favourite montages in the show. The intro is my absolute favourite, just dripping with style and symbolism. The rock candy mountain one is so out of place yet also very fitting. An amazing song choice, and also blue rock candy looks a lot like meth. Then, there is the introduction of the only character that rivals Gus in terms of pure awesome villainy. Lalo is incredible, and I know you guys will love him.

Flerb

Way back in BB, when Walter and Jessie take Saul to the desert with a bag on his head, he cries out, "It wasn't me it was Ignacio, did Lalo send you?" ...Y'all have now met Lalo...

Silver Linings Starman

Bob Odenkirk's southern pastor is his Sen. Tankerbell character from Mr. Show

Kevin

And of course, we have also met Ignacio (Nacho). Just in case they didn't make that connection.

Inkpendude

Oh...same here. I actually even forgot to watch this yesterday because of it.

Justin Leone

"Jimmy, whatever you're planning, don't do it. I have a better way... I got a whole shit-ton of markers and we are going to huff the fuck out of them until we forget all about Huell... Sound good?"

Justin Leone

Werner: "Could be a skyscraper. Could be a box of shoes." Mike: Purrs menacingly

Justin Leone

Judge Munsinger: "I have looked at this case. It does not merit a circus. Now you two, WORK IT OUT!" Kim: "We've tried, your honor" Judge: "Try. Again." ADA Ericsen: Purrs defiantly

Helly R

They fact they built a show around a throwaway line or two, and that is works as well as it does, is insane.

Jeff K.

And the fact that those two characters in the throwaway line wound up being two of the most interesting and complex and well-acted characters in the entire BB/BCS universe is, frankly, a pretty astounding feat by Gilligan and Gould.

james repka

"The Big Rock Candy Mountain" was originally written and recorded by Harry McClintock in the 1920s or 30s IIRC. It's been covered by many different folk artists over the years, with both cleaner and dirtier lyrics. The song is a sort of tribute to migrant workers and hobos, presenting a presumed paradise for the down-and-out during the great depression. You guys presumably last heard it over the opening scene in the Coen Brothers' O Brother, Where Art Thou. "Something Stupid" is a love song from the 1960s, a cute little ditty but George is right, the most popular version was a duet between Frank and Nancy Sinatra. Though they performed it beautifully, it was certainly not lost on most folk at the time that maybe it was not the best choice for a father-daughter duet.

Jesse Coombs

Michelle Trachtenberg was also fantastic in "Mysterious Skin", which is an amazing movie, but also a really hard watch. I'd love for you guys to watch it, but it centers around child abuse and sexual assault, so I would understand if you don't.

james repka

Might be worth noting here that, while the scheme involved some illegalities, they didn't fabricate evidence. The word "mail fraud" was bandied about so there's that. but none of the materials represented evidence to be presented in a trial. DAs make decisions that are influenced by the status of the accused all of the time. If Huell had been a famous celebrity or the child of a well-known politician, that would have influenced the DA's decision as well, so they made him look like a famous celebrity.

TheSentry77

Hahaha, I just saw you guys' reaction to the Squat Cobbler! If you like that actor's weird performance, I must insist you guys watch the TV series What We Do In The Shadows. It is absolutely hilarious, and Mark Proksch is part of the main cast! It's based off a Taika Waititi movie of the same name (but different cast), which you may also watch (but is not a must to understand the TV show).

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

I can't be the only one who got heavy Nobody vibes from the opening of episode 7, can I?

Sergio Meira

This is probably true. Still... some events from future episodes make me think Kim also had to deal with her own 'little Jimmy', independently from Jimmy's influence. (And this was foreshadowed since Season 2 -- remember Jimmy in that swimming pool, thinking about what to do? And remember Kim later on saying she couldn't stop thinking about that?)

Sergio Meira

Sticking it to the D.A. was undoubtably the most important part. But I think it's clear she enjoyed HOW it was done, too -- which foreshadows other things in the future... It's not that Kim is necessarily in love with the thrill of the con, but it does add something. After all, she came up with the idea herself -- to the point that Jimmy sincerely thanked her and seemed to show respect for her creativity...

Sergio Meira

Not the same, but certainly more similar than we thought.

Nathan Jasper

George it's funny you should mention Lalo looks like he'd challenge you to a sword duel. See the Hawkeye show for context. No Spoilies.

Josh

Well if Lalo’s introduction to want ominous enough than idk what is. Only waited for this moment since the beginning of the series

Josh

lol when Simone was like oh no it’s tuco, I was just thinking to myself oh you’ll wish it was tuco but yeah, lalo is right behind gus in best villains.

Josh

Dude, you clearly don’t understand the character of jimmy. He isn’t Walter white who’s just selfish and evil. Jimmy does bad things but he does them for good reasons. He does them to help people and at this point in the series that’s all true. Jimmy breaks rules in order to help others.

Josh

Why do you people think Kim is such an idiot that she can’t think for herself? It’s very telling with you people. She makes her own choices.

Josh

Because they don’t seem to understand the character of jimmy.

Josh

Oh yeah, I’m sure he’s just gonna be cooking the whole time.

Sergio Meira

He looks like a cook. A good cook. An ominous cook...

Sergio Meira

If that's what you got from what I wrote (or Vengeance above, for that matter), then I think you should reread our posts much more carefully. Kim an idiot? Boy, you got imagination, Josh!

SpankTheMonk

She memberries Neelix! 😺🖖. So the idea of a good person vs a bad person has so many lines in the sand for different people. I mentioned this before when Mike quoted the dweeb pharmacy guy about his dealings. Good people can do atrocities for reasons and bad people can do righteous things for selfish reasons. I love that the show rarely shows one dimensional bad or good. Even Tuco was caring for his uncle in an F-ed up Tuco way. We all use rationality and logical justifications in the decisions we make.

Marylou inProgress

Wanting to be unhappy in a big house is so real 😂 I felt that

Brien

George and I are on the same wavelength. Strip clubs are F-ing weird!

Thall

Perfect representation of cops worldwide btw. "Say yes to my unreasonable request, otherwise I her 'Go fuck yourself' and will make your life a living hell"

Redrum Sacrament

This is definitely one of the best episodes of this season and show. Hilarious. How Ironic George calls Lalo a swordsman. Tony Dalton who plays Lalo played Jack Duquesne aka Swordsman in Hawkeye and DareDevil Born Again. I'm sure everyone has told you about a certain episode of Breaking Bad where Saul mentions Ignacio and Lalo. Enter Lalo. Charming and comes off friendly, but will kill without hesitation. I'm playing catch up with these watch alongs.
