Sock me in the stomach three more times!!! Let's go!

You guys should add Rat Race (2001) Ever After (1998) What Dreams May Come (1998) Moulin Rouge (2001) Practical Magic (1998) To your watch list I would love to see some reactions to those at some point ❤️🙌

beefjerkywizard

As for a morning off routine. Make coffee and obviously watch reactions 😅💀

David Zabel

Hanks came from a comedy background in his early days and co-starred on a very popular sitcom Bosom Buddies. If you really want to see young Tom Hanks watch the 1984 raunch comedy Bachelor Party.

Simone - regarding dressing up: Start as small as you possibly can. Find a single article of clothing, some makeup etc. you really like the look of yourself in. Don't go for the total makeover. Small steps. And most of all: do it for yourself, it should make you feel delicious :)

Hans Czajkowski Jørgensen

Morning routine may or may not involve a certain cartoon bear living in the woods. And freshly made spicy tea.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Great performance as usual from Tom Hanks but really love Howard Shore’s score in this film. It really gets in the feels. Also for the opening questions: I’m a morning routines person - some exercise, sometimes brekky, always coffee and a quick morning journal/notepad. Will sometimes do the lay in on weekends but the rest of the day is whatever comes (work, projects, reading etc); however the morning is key ☺️ For dressing up I’m not a fancy person, prefer bum clothes and it helps I live in an Aussie area where let’s just say pants are optional for people who can be bothered wearing them to the supermarket lol

Brandon

80's Hanks might be my favourite era. He was really well known, but he hadn't yet moved into the more serious roles that made him a huge Oscar winning star. 'The 'Burbs' came out a year after this and it might be Tom Hanks' best movie from the 80's. 'Joe Versus the Volcano' is another great Hanks comedy, along with Meg Ryan who kills it playing three different characters. Edit: Forgot to add that in my experience, most ride attendants at carnivals and amusement parks won't care if you're a good 3 inches too short. When you're a kid, the idea of being denied a ride because of your height is one of the most embarrassing things that could happen to you in front of your friends, so maybe that's why they went easy on us.

beefjerkywizard

You should consider Turner and Hooch for more lighthearted Hanks comedy

Fun Fact: FAO Schwarz is a real toy store in NYC. The toy store in Home Alone 2 is fictional but they based the design on "Christmas FAO Schwarz"

Ok, I can't find a version that's 1:44:10. Any help where I can find it? All I keep getting is the 2:10:25 version.

I typically wake up at 4am every morning alarm or not. When I worked I would get breakfast on the way to work, and eat it while I work. When I wake up, I get up. But if it is a day when I do not have anything to do, then I do puzzles on my phone and fall asleep again. I have not worked for the past 5 years, so 90% of my time is spent in pajamas, because there is just no where worth leaving the house for, and even when I do I am only gone for about 30 minutes, then I get home and back in pajamas.

Vwlss Nvwls

My father and I used to watch Tom Hanks on a t.v. sitcom called "Bosom Buddies" where he and the other star would dress as women to live in a low price women only apartment. This was well before he did movies and became popular. He was just starting to become a star when this movie came out. My favorite movie poster, which got banned and did not last long, was "Friday the 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan". The original poster was the iconic I heart NY, with Jason's knife cutting thru the top, and you could see him behind it. They later replaced it with the Manattan skyline and him in the background, because NY took offense to the first one.

Raven Dark

I love this movie, but when it was on the poll, I was bummed, only because I was worried about how the part when he's with Susan in his room would be received. I've seen some people become really offended and icked out by it, so I was scared it would ruin the film for you guys. Since you liked it so much, I'm glad it won, and now I can't wait to watch the whole reaction now that I've listened to only your talking before and after. Figured I'd go my usual way and answer your questions first before I dive in. Morning routine - I had a normal job once where I had to go out five days a week, dressed up for my shift at work. At that time, I worked nights, so my routine was to get up around 5 in the afternoon and get ready, including showering. I usually skipped breakfast just to save time so I could sleep later and spend less time getting ready. Now, I work from home and make my own hours, which means unless I have an online meeting (which I have often) I have no routine and do things whenever I want. No alarm (unless I have a meeting at a set time), and I usually just get up as soon as I wake up, have a quick wash, and then get right to work. Hubby teases me all the time, because I'm one of those freaks who doesn't need time to wake up. I literally just wake up with all the energy, ready to jump in, and I'm already getting shit done in minutes. Breakfast - I can't skip it. I have stomach issues, so if I go too long after waking without putting something in there, I end up with a severe stomach ache. So it's vital that I eat right away. But, if I had a choice, I probably would not bother with it. So, story time - I have mobility issues such that I can't leave the house unassisted and I use a walker. But I didn't always. I used to be very active, and lost my ability to walk independently over time. Once, when things started to go downhill and I didn't yet realize how bad things were getting, I got up to go to the bathroom. We have a house without stairs, since we both have bad knees. Hubby was at work, because this was before he started working from home, and I was as yet unaware things had regressed to the point where I needed a walker. I got up, took two steps toward the bathroom, tripped on my own two feet, and fell face down. Couldn't reach the phone or the door to call for help. Hubby was going to be gone for at least six more hours. You guys have seen Misery. Remember when his legs were still broken and he rolled out of bed and had to crawl to the door while Annie was gone. Picture that. It was terrifying. I had to lay on the floor for hours with no way to get up. Part of my problem is I've lost flexibilty in my spine, so I have trouble even rolling over. I actually tried to crawl through the house until I found something to pull myself up with, and then I still couldn't do it. Big scare. I got a walker after that. I am constantly afraid of falling. So, Simone, I know exactly what you meant about the fear going downstairs while in pain. Movie Poster - yeah, I had that thought when I saw it today. I saw this movie when it came out, but I'd forgotten what the poster looked like, and, George, you're right, it is kind of bland. I was thinking about how I'd have done it to make it more compelling. I'd have a picture of Tom Hanks's character as a kid, with his cute lopsided smile and maybe his bike in the forefront, then a shadow of Tom Hanks grown up, but just his shape against the wall behind the kid. So it would have the effect of, the kid is there, but the kid's shadow is a grown man. I don't know how well that would work, but done right, in my head, it's really cool. Recommendations - I second others who recommended 13 going on 30. That movie can stand on its own, but it's even more fun after having seen Big. And, since George mentioned movies where actors have to play people who are in different bodies, I also recommend Freaky Friday. The remake with Lindsey Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, because they both have to do that, and they both do a fantastic job. Okay, going in. Super excited for this!

Farbod

There is an alternate ending where the next school day a new student named Susan is introduced to the class. She smiles at Josh and its implied that Susan also made the wish to be a kid and join Josh. I cant find it anywhere.

lordoflondon

yeesh glad thats not the official ending. it would be pretty gross as she would still be mentally an adult, knowingly choosing to re-enter high school to date a child.

TheSentry77

Huh, took me a really long time, but I'm realizing now that Elizabeth Perkins looks EXACTLY like Millie Bobby Brown...

Farbod

If you want to logic out the film, its heavily implied that they were having a sexual relationship for an extended period of time. Most of the film is pretty gross if you are going to take it seriously.

REDR58

Some of my favorite posters, several of which I own original double-sided theatrical prints of that are meant to be installed in a movie theater light box: The Fellowship of the Ring poster with the 3 boats in the river (I own an original like this one, double sided): https://filmartgallery.com/products/the-lord-of-the-rings-the-fellowship-of-the-ring-1 The poster for Bladerunner (I own a smaller reproduction): https://filmartgallery.com/products/blade-runner? lordoflondon

well no, whether she knows hes a child or not makes a huge difference. they had a sexual relationship for a long time because she thought he was a grown man in his 30s. as soon as she found out, she freaked out and gave him a kiss on the forehead as a goodbye. if she then chooses to turn into a childs body just to date him, now knowing hes a child, thats completely different and creepy af. age of consent comes from someone being too immature/mentally capabilities, not because of their physical size. thats why you can date short people but not people that are mentally under developed.

lordoflondon

are you seriously going to argue that if someone under 18 convinced you that they were 30, not just by dressing older but they literally look 30, you are some how equally as guilty as knowingly date an underage person? or are you saying physical size of a person is what matters, regardless of mental age? cause if thats the case, in your world dating someone with dwarfism would be illegal.

lordoflondon

ah yes, the favorite retreat of those that knows theyre wrong, but is too weak and insecure to admit it.

Farbod

Its not a retreat. I just find you annoying and creepy. Just gonna block you.

lordoflondon

lmao thats rich, you are literally the one defending that its okay for someone who is an adult to date a child, just because they suddenly physically look like one.

Cinebinge

alright folks lets end it here. no need to continue and go into just mutual insults. end this now, continue escalation will result in a permanent ban.

Mike FromOz

All the links are to subscription services I don't have. I watched the extended version and just paused here and there until the movies synched up. I can tell you though, the extended version does not really add anything of extra value to the movie. It makes it more of a drama than a comedy, with extended scenes about product design etc. I can see why they chopped it back so much. But the whole movie feels kind of 'neither here nor there' where it has overly long dramatic parts, and short almost sketches linking it together to get the movie to progress along. All in all, it was an interesting watch. Not my favourite Hanks comedy from this era, but good enough for a watch through again. I am really looking forward to Toy Story 2 though.

Mike FromOz

Simone, the secretary who you were trying to remember her name is Yeardly Smith, who does the voice of Lisa Simpson in the Simpsons.

droodly

hmm? Pretty sure that was Debra Jo Rupp (Kitty) of That 70s Show.

REDR58

That's too bad. I really don't know why you were only able to find the extended version. I wasn't even aware of it until recently and I suspect it wasn't widely known or seen at least in the US, until perhaps the DVD/Blu-ray release. The US Blu-ray release has both versions so I just grabbed a copy of that last week to be prepared for either version.

Mike FromOz

I had to do the same with "Horrible Bosses" the other week, as I had the extended version. God, it was totally unneeded. The edited theatrical version looked to be so much better.

D. T. Nelson

You guys and your conversation about men vs women and comfortable clothes vs flashy dressing... Dress in what you want, Simone. As they say, women don't have to work hard. Men are easy, you just need to show up.

Guy-on-Couch

OMG this was great...I've been watching your videos for a while and I think, Simone, your reaction to the trampoline, might be one of the hardest times you've cracked up...hahaha that was so funny

Raven Dark

Now that I've watched the whole thing (fantastic reaction, btw, as usual), here's a few more recommendations for older Tom Hanks movies I think you'd really enjoy. -Splash - huge 80's classic with Hanks at a similar age to what he is in Big, and starring with a gorgeous Daryl Hanna -Turner and Hooch - Hanks is a little bit older here, but still in his more comedic era -Philadelphia - Early 90's movie, well after Big, but before Forrest Gump or The Green Mile. I'm pretty sure Philadelphia is Hanks's first serious role. If it isn't, I definitely remember it was the first time I'd seen him play a serious role. When the world has become so familiar with Hanks in a movie like The Green Mile, it's almost hard to convey, how strange it was being so used to seeing him in such fun, comedic movies like Big and Splash, and then sitting in the theater watching him play a character that is as serious as the role he plays in Philadelphia. I was sure there was no way he could pull that off. What a switch, and holy crap, he blew my damn mind. Phenomenal movie. Stacked cast, with a lot of big stars.

Mark Polo

To respond to you morning routine bit... I actually like getting up very early. On a workday I start 7 in morning and my alarm is set at 04.20. I just don't like getting up and having to go instantly. I like having my time to have a coffee and breakfast, read up on some news and in general just getting over the "just woke up" feeling before I have to get going - I feel like I am just tired and cranky the whole day if I get going while still in that "just woke up mode". (On my days of I give myself some sleeping in time but I still often wake up at around 6 or so)

Caroline

The film Josh is watching with all the shooting was The French Connection with Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider (Jaws).

Joanthan Skidmore

If you enjoyed that, you shoule watch 'Vice Versa,' (1988) similar kind of idea and great fun.

Odd Thomas

Big Fish is a GREAT movie

Brad Lowry

The Creepy Co-Worker telling him to slow down on his first day, and Tom Hanks and the director, Penny Marshall, have all been in a film together that you've seen: "A League of Their Own".

SnabbKassa

Josh would have become the most confident teenage boy in the whole school, because he's had a lot of the experiences already.

Simone's Coconut Squire

RE Bland 80's movie posters. You have to remember that in the 80s, movie posters were usually part of a promotional package that included TV advertising, which people would often see before they ever saw the posters, so there was a certain amount of fore-knowledge assumed.

Adam Wetstein

Please please do Money Pit. As a contractor i give a copy of this film to a client before we start a big reno

REDR58

That was John Lovitz, who is also a veteran of Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons.

Simone's Coconut Squire

Mercedes Ruehl as the mom is an unsung amazing performance in this movie, and I've been an huge fan for ages. You definitely need to do The Fisher King which features the powerhouse acting trifecta of her, Robin Williams, and Jeff Bridges, and the direction of Terry Gilliam. She is also incredible in Lost in Yonkers.

REDR58

Very nice reaction. I haven't seen this movie since the 1980s. Edit: John Heard who plays Paul is the dad in the first two Home Alone movies. The game Josh was playing in the FAO Schwarz is called "Photon" which was a laser tag type game (similar to the old "Lazer Tag"). Lazer Tag and Photon commercials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7LBVk2XZhs The Wizard computer game was created for the movie. The piano is a creation of Remo Saraceni, artist and engineer from Philadelphia: https://bigpiano.com/about https://www.theringer.com/2018/06/04/movies/big-piano-tom-hanks-30th-anniversary From what I've read this movie was a surprise hit and Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins were expecting it to be released straight to video: https://www.ranker.com/list/big-1988-behind-the-scenes/tracey-graham

Simone's Coconut Squire

Not a comedy, but DeNiro plays a man-child in Awakenings. It's a little different, because he's a grown adult with the mind of a child for medical reasons, not an instantly grown kid, but he does an AMAZING job and it's probably my favorite DeNiro performance.

Jesse Coombs

I want you guys to watch "The Informant!" from 2009 just so you guys can talk about the poster. (Also, it's a good movie.)

Logan Kerlee

Uh, heyo guys. I'm not sure if I've got an extended edition but my copy of Big is 2:10:25 in length.. wondering if I'm the only one. :/

8bitAndy

The Burbs, Money Pit, Turner and Hooch, etc... there are so many classic Hanks comedies worth checking out. I'm glad you guys enjoyed this one.

SpankTheMonk

A movie that has an amazing Funny or Die ( if anyone remembers ) Evan Rachael Wood skit that laser beams a spotlight on the “issue” with the film and others like it. Highly recommended watching.

Beddoe

I'm a big fan of Tom Hanks' early comedy films. Also, 'Beddoe' rhymes with 'meadow'.

FranciscoGios

The only copy I had available is the one they have stamped on their description 1 hour & 44 mins.

FranciscoGios

Every morning I wake up at 3 a.m to go to work, my alarm helps a lot or I would wake up at 7 a.m and yes it happens when I forget to turn ON the alarm & I would be going late to work. I would eat breakfast until 9/10 a.m depending if I have a lot of things to do. If I plan to get groceries, I would put regular clothes on, I’m not like some people that look like they are going to a bar or party.

Steve kephart

If it makes you guys feel better, this movie is better than Big Fish.

Jomero

I was 13 when this came out. And I remember thinking, "Myself, and all my friends, aren't into toys anymore like this kid is. We're all far more into girls. I don't think any of us would be quite this naive as this guy, either."

Gary Fixler

I think I went to FAO Schwarz as a kid with my parents, but it wasn't open, or maybe we just drove by, and I wished we could stop. I always wanted to go play the piano, but found out later it was just made for the movie movie. My mom owned a high end gifts and collectibles gift shop when I was a kid, so I had a ton of stuffed animals (literally like more than 40—Gund, Steiff, Applause, etc.—all named, all with "jobs"). The most important of all of them was the biggest one, "Big Bear" (I was very clever). We had a lot of long conversations about important kid stuff. I still have him. His faux leather nose needs some repair work, after decades of drying out. This movie was also a big deal for me back then, so it was a real surprise when I watched the piano scene again late last year, to see Big Bear in the piano scene! I've never seen him anywhere else. You can see the mother and daughter pick him up in an early long shot, and then the mother holding the bear while they're playing Heart and Soul. He was by Avanti, and he looked like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/223486892664

It seems so strange to me now that our milk always had pictures of missing children on the box, almost as strange as Canadian milk bags (so weird). I would always open the fridge, see the kid or kids on the box, and take a second to see if I knew them, which was crazy, because I only knew the kids at school, and relatives, and none of them ever went missing, thankfully, so of course I wouldn't know anyone on the box. I always felt like I owed them at least a quick double check. https://www.missingkids.org/blog/2024/milk-carton-kids

Gary Fixler

Tom Hanks was well known for a number of things by 1988, but as I little kid, I loved him in the two seasons of Bosom Buddies (1980-82), which was like a sitcom version of Mrs. Doubtfire. Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari lose their cheap apartment, and their female friend (who was one of the stars of The Facts of Life, another popular sitcom) gets them a place in her building, but it's just for women, so they dress up as women, but also come over as men to visit her, their friend, and it has all the kinds of jokes you'd expect from that premise. The opening theme song was one of favorite Billy Joel songs. 80s shows had such great themes. Really got me excited about every knew episode, even though they were all so corny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elVRbXveAyc

Erdem

I wake up close to 7 a.m. every morning for work while alarm goes of at 7:05. I think the reason is that I hate being woken up by anyone( I know it's stupid like it's their fault that I have to get up:) ). I guess I created an internal alarm system so I don't get up angry every day. :)

Raymond DeGraw

With your talk on making the wording of a wish detailed without consequences makes me think of Bedazzled. A very good Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley movie.

Brien Kliver

80s Elizabeth Perkins = Today's Millie Bobby Brown in an alternate universe

Philipp Roensch

You are currently my 1 PM entertainment, sooo apparently I slept in again :D. But even if I have to get up, 8-9 AM is good, usually also wallow an hour on the phone, no breakfast, every other day shower. Don't do it at home kids^^. Casual wear all the way, I feel dressed up in a collared shirt, barely have anything fitting anyway so we slouch in the sweatpants over here :). Been meaning to say, your comfy beautiful merch sweater has been my daily for the winter outside and loving it! (I at least cycle everywhere, so sweater is not too cold or too dense) My favorite movie posters are of Mad Max Fury Road (horde of vehicles charging Max) and Skyfall (fan artist with Bond stepping out of the Aston Martin), so the specific ones I have on the wall. In terms of art, I must say, Léon the Professional and old Star Wars are just iconic. A fine movie, Tom Hanks has always been a favorite of mine, don't know why I haven't seen this one before. I really like they kept it light instead of harsh realities, I think Josh took his childlike wonder just with him, which is all so wholesome. With the magic and all, the movie is clearly more escapism than big life lessons.

Rhiannon

Thing one - the main thing that would give me pause about Josh's apartment was his tiny bunk bed, and that was HIS BED. Thing two - the movie Jack with Robin Williams is sort of a serious version - kind of - of this movie. Child in an adult's body, but very different premise - well worth watching in my opinion. Very sweet and sad.

Paul Peavler

Yeah, I have the same. Looked it up and apparently there was an extended edition that was released on Blu Ray in 2007 that added 26 minutes of deleted footage, that’s the version I have as well. The theatrical version is what they watched.

G Lam

I'm in Australia, and we just had a legit, hot (37°C 86% humidity day here... I didn't leave the house and I had 4 showers... 2 soapy, 2 rinsing/cooling off. I drank like 4L of water that day, and absorbed through osmosis, and i swear I'm lighter now

michael cross

you should definitely react to Jack with Robin Williams!!!

David Lonewolf Wright

I set my alarm on my phone, but I always wake up 15-20 minutes before I set it... no matter what I set it too (even when I have to be up early for a 4am flight). I can usually guess the time within 15-20 minutes. On work days I will doom scroll for awhile on the phone, on weekends I usually stay in bed for at least an hour. My breakfast is two cups of coffee most of the time, though sometimes on the weekends I will make chilaquiles. I live in San Diego and it doesn't get too hot or too cold here, so I may skip a day shower. I also where pjs all day, put on a nicer shirt when I have an online work meeting. I am a t-shirt and jeans guy, maybe a polo shirt or a henley. When I think of Tom Hanks, I think of Bosom Buddies, a sitcom he was in during the 80's that I watched as a kid... and I was 12 when this came out too. I think I had a crush on Elizabeth Perkins after this movie too. I forgot how much I loved this movie.
