“Rudy? I don’t know fuckin’ Rudy. Who the fuck is Rudy?” Unrelated, and I’ve also never even seen the Rudy film here, just instantly came to mind.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Raging Bull’s amazing and definitely worth checking out. Bring It On’s a tonne of fun too!

Robban6948

Yaay, sportsball! Touch-passes and the like, right?

JOEDATOR

Absolutely RAGING BULL. On every list of the best films of the 1980s.

Golandaz

Kind of hilarious how the movies I like never wins the polls. But rooting for Rudy or Cinderella Man.

BlindPanda

I asked for Raging Bull when the channel started so I’m glad its finally come around lol

Rokkor X

The Replacements is my sports movie.

BubblyRainbows

"The Replacements," "Mystery, Alaska," "Miracle," and "Stick It" need to be added to the sports list!

Jeff K.

If you think I didn't start chanting that (in my head, not out loud, I'm not a lunatic) when Sam Gamgee picked up Frodo and started carrying him on Mount Doom...

Zhivko Yakimov

For future consideration, here are a few other entries that you could include, if you like, in future polls on this topic: "Any Given Sunday" - covers top-level American Football. I admit I have little in common with Oliver Stone's personal views, but I find the movie covering the topic well, and the cinematography (and music selection) is spectacular "The Mighty Ducks" - it is about a children's hockey team, but very uplifting. The child actors are great "The Longest Yard", either the 1974 original with Burt Reynolds or the 2005 remake with Adam Sandler. It is about an American football game in prison "Mean Machine" - it uses the formula of "The Longest Yard", but in the UK, and with proper football. Also, much more comedy in this one, and Vinnie Jones gets to play a footballer, which is nice :)

Sir Dongle

Let's throw out a few more sports related recommendations with: - Baseketball - Speed Racer - Space Jam (1996) - The Mighty Duck Trilogy - Waterboy - White Men Can't Jump (1992) - Cool Runnings Other Mentions: -Beer Fest * (Physical Competition, training sequences, bracketed competitive event) - Drumline *(sports adjacent, training sequences, overcoming obstacles)

Parabolica

I’m not a sports movie fan but Bring It On has such nostalgic value to me I can’t help but vote for it.

Lyle Morgan

Million Dollar Baby is really more of a “chronic depression, my week is ruined, I will now light myself on fire” movie than a sports movie.

streetduck

Million Dollar Baby has been in 3 out of last 5 polls. Just watch it already if you guys want :D

Maiki

Oh wow, that happened quicker than expected, thanks guys <3 Suggestion: Barney's Version (2010)

Matthew Maxon

What about "Jackie Robinson Story" with Cuba. Or *61

4NonsenseD

The Replacements and Major League are sports comedies you should consider adding to this list.

akaTheBAY-AY-RON

Some might say the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) is a sports movie and could go on the next sports poll. It's also a comedy, drama, horror (literal talking mutant turtles who beat people up, duh...), period piece (the 90s), historical movie (I'm pretty sure all the cars they used in the movie were period accurate), rom-com, based on a true story (the movie takes place in NYC and I'm PRETTY SURE they did their research on the city to make it as accurate as they could), I mean, there's very few movie polls that this movie wouldn't be a good fit for. Even a poll for animated movies technically. While it's not in and of itself an animated movie, there are a few seconds of footage where they're watching a cartoon, so that counts I think LOL.

Mugs

Baseketball is utterly hilarious and gets little reaction love.

Sir Dongle

The mighty ducks trilogy is goated

jmundt33a

Is that better than 42? 61* is really good Little Big League is actually pretty good.

John

Major League and The Natural

John

Any Given Sunday is great

jmundt33a

What? Jean is Belgian and Whitaker is American.

ShōNuff3K

I'm living in a world where Bloodsport is beating Rudy. 🤯

Shonnicus

Hoosiers (1986) starring Gene Hackman is appropriate atm for College Basketball in US.

John

Bull Durham is a movie I would add to the next sports poll as well as 42 about Jackie Robinson who has a Canadian connection and The Program about college Football it's the Anti-Rudy in some ways

jmundt33a

Basketball is Cinecringe. I love Mighty Ducks, but the sequels? Everything else but Beerfest is solid.

Jay Dee

"Goon" is underrated. I'm hoping "Rudy" will make a comeback in the poll.

Sir Dongle

Only if you're pretentious

jmundt33a

Don’t know about Mean Machine, but the others are good.

Sir Dongle

Disliking the movies I enjoy doesn't make your taste in movies Any better. To borrow a phrase: "Don't yuck my yum"

Matthew Maxon

42 is what I was thinking of. One of my favorites

jmundt33a

Mystery, Alaska was a surprising disappointment. The others are good. Might be interesting to compare Miracle to Miracle on Ice from the 1980s.

Jeromy M

What did 'Bring it on' do to deserve so little love.

Jeff K.

Yep. I've seen it once, never want to watch it again.

jmundt33a

Best commercial for the institution in 50 years. Even with (or maybe because of) the full-length anachronism.

jmundt33a

Also, The Express, Brian’s Song, Glory Road, 12 Mighty Orphans, and Friday Night Lights.

Stephanie Bedworth

I, Tonya is one you two should definitely check out at some point.

Logan Kerlee

I am STOKED to see Bloodsport on this list! I just hope that it comes out on top. That there's a childhood fave of mine! I remember enjoying that movie so much as a youngster. :D

Rhiannon

Yes, Goon is so good!!

Spacedone

What about Slap Shot? Worth it just for the Hanson brothers alone.

Nabikon

Might I add Little Giants, Angels in the Outfield and Rookie of the Year if they have not been seen before

Spacedone

I'll be honest, I've never even heard of Rudy. I'm guessing that was more popular in the States than elsewhere.

Joe Concepts

Yeah, I never got the point of that movie. I feel there was a great movie there, then ruined by certain things.

Logan Kerlee

That world is a reality! I'm hoping to be living in a world where Bloodsport comes out on top! xD I can hope, can't I? :P

Patrick

Goon! The best hockey film!

Logan Kerlee

Rudy was very popular here, yeah.

jmundt33a

Little Big League is the best of that crop. It’s actually better (in most ways) than the original The Kid From Left Field. Rookie of the Year is fun. I have a soft spot for the Angels in the Outfield remake (it IS better than the original). I’m torn on Little Giants.

Logan Kerlee

This movie is a winner in my book. I love it so much! xD Always have a fun time watching it. :)

Da Big Appa

It looks like Rudy won't win but that is a movie I think non sports people love just as much AND it has Sean Astin in it. Hopefully they will be able to get to it at some point.

AVATAR-X

They did. It's up on YouTube

Sir Dongle

I couldn't remember if they had but was second guessing myself that they already did. Thanks for the confirmation

Sir Dongle

I second all of these

jmundt33a

Don’t know from where you dig the stink for The Rookie. I have never heard any Slayer called the Dark Slayer in 27 years of fandom. But Bring It On does have a Slayer and an evil god in the cast.

jmundt33a

The Natural is awesome. I really enjoy For The Love Of The Game The Replacements is also one of Gene Hackman’s last projects.

jmundt33a

That doesn’t have Cuba, it has Chadwick Bozeman

Ootlander

Excuse me, you spelled Slapshot wrong, ;)

Amar

I will be shocked if the movies from the 80's didn't win, they always win!!

Jeff K.

If they watch Longest Yard, I'm begging them to watch the original, and not the Sandler remake. The original is SO much better.

LuciferLilac

Sad that Bull Durham isn't currently on the list!

Dirge Girl

More wholehearted support for Goon (2017) and Slap Shot (1977).

theycallmekev

Excellent lineup of films! My money’s on Raging Bull—after all, who wouldn’t bet on a Martin Scorsese film early on in his prime? Million Dollar Baby and Rudy are my second picks. Both are excellent films in storytelling as well and I think Simone and George would really enjoy that they’re not just “sports” films but dramas that shows something deeper than a game. Cinderella Man is probs the most underrated of these picks so i can see why it’s overlooked.

Phillyman!!

The Fighter is also a OUTSTANDING movie 💯💯

Amar

Raging Bull is a classic and winning a poll makes sense regardless of the era but Blood Sport is not the level of Cinderella Man or Rudy but it's beating both because it's from the 80's. This is what i mean by "being shocked" when a 80's film doesn't win on a poll. If it doesn't win it will come 2nd or have many more votes than some excellent newer movies.

Kyle B

I know A24 movies are touchy, but The Iron Claw is an excellent 'sports' movie.

Nicodemus Archleone

Rush (2013) Would be a worthy addition to a future sports movie poll.

Jason Pratt

American Football comedy The Replacements is fun, and features the late Gene Hackman if you want to touch on his career. The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, and Amy Adams is a great one, too. For some good ol United States rodeo action, 8 Seconds is pretty good.

Daniel Smith

Youngblood deserves to be on this list, especially for Canadians to watch. Also consider Slap shot with Paul Newman and Goon/Major League for the comedy factor. Quite enjoyed Tin Cup too.

Daniel Smith

As a Brit, had no idea what Speed Racer was. Loved it. Not sure if it fits with the original cartoon or not but loved the retina burner vivid colours of the film.

Sir Dongle

It's so hyper stylized, but also a lot of the shot setups and transitions are so true to the original anime that I don't think most audiences got it, which is a shame. But it's an amazingly enjoyable film regardless as long as you can open yourself to the experience. Happy to hear you enjoyed it

Kyle Baker

Blood Sport and Raging Bull being on the same list for anything is amazing. :)

beefjerkywizard

For the Love Of The Game is so good and interesting because it's directed by Sam Raimi

Sir Dongle

Complete non-sequitur, but have you ever heard of or seen Son of Rambow? It's this amazingly good little independant British coming-of-age film that I would love to see them react to as well. Highly recommend it if you're not already familiar!

Tenn Seven

Tin Cup is hilarious; I was going to recommend that one too.

John

Hoosiers is great. Isn’t it about High School basketball? Another great high school basketball movie is Hoop Dreams. For college basketball I would recommend Blue Chips with Shaq

Codytallica

All great movies. The Replacements however is the correct choice lol

Mike FromOz

Every vote for "Bring it on" brings us closer to "Not another teen movie"

Jeff I.

Seriously! "I, Tonya" has a great mix of humor and emotion, with excellent performances from Margot Robbie and Sebastian Stan.

JoeE

Other sports recommendations: kingpin, bad news bears, eight men out, better off dead, American graffiti

Mr. Writhms

Simone/George, You always do a great job. This is NOT a complaint. Its more like... suggestive guidance. 😉 I notice in most of your polls, you seem to leave out movies from the 70s (unless they are really, really well-known). For instance, in this sports poll you could have swapped out a couple of those movies from the 2000s (an era you pull from a lot) for 70s classics like: "The Longest Yard" (1974, NFL football)--"Slap Shot" (1977, hockey)--"The Black Stallion" (1979, horseracing)--"The Bad News Bears" (1974, baseball). The 1970s is the greatest decade for movies. Its right after the time from cinema's conception to around the late 1960s when everyone was uptight about what could be seen in a mainstream motion picture. It was the era they called "New Hollywood", when filmmakers took risks with their creativity like "The Exorcist", "Star Wars" and "Taxi Driver". And there were hardly any sequels or remakes. Not to mention EVERY amazing special effect was done practical with no help from digital means. The 70s filmmakers had original ideas for the most part, from comedy, horror, drama, etc. I beg you PLEASE... for future polls, Google some movies from the 70s and maybe throw a couple in from time to time? Again, this was just a friendly suggestion. Thanks for all you do! ✌️

Jay Davis

I have no idea why but I got the sudden urge to recommend Quick Change (1990).

Jeff K.

I love American Graffiti, but it's really not even remotely a sports movie other than having one drag race. It's one of the best coming-of-age films of all-time, though. Speaking of '70s sports-adjacent coming-of-age films, I'd love to see them watch Breaking Away at some point. One of my all-time favorites.

Jeff K.

Suggestion for a future poll: Breaking Away, a 1979 coming-of-age comedy that's also a sports film, features a terrific cast, received multiple Oscar nominations, including a win for Best Original Screenplay. The AFI named it the 8th best sports movie of all-time back in 2008, and they also had it as the 8th best inspirational movie of all-time in 2006.

Adam Wetstein

It got to be Raging Bull as it won best video and it is the my sauve. For my most hated movie Rocky

Adam Wetstein

No they aren’t Raging Bull is about how boxers really are. Not like the fake Rocky

BRyeN64

I'm surprised how well Bring It On is doing. It's one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies.

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

Bringing back one of my original recommendations this week: LEGENDS OF THE FALL. I don't see how anyone could be disappointed with this film. One of the most epic dramas of the 90's, let's go!

Stephanie Chapman

Cinderella Man is a wonderful boxing movie set in the Great Depression and it stars Russell Crowe, Paul Giamatti, and Renee Zellweger. Based on a true story and is fantastic 👏

Vengeance

You put the “suck” in “liposuction”! Great movie!

Jeff K.

They should watch that and Seabiscuit back-to-back.

Cinebinge

Hi Prof Writhms, thank you for the feedback! However I think there is a slight misconception here, with the weekly polls the choices are ENTIRELY taken from the backlog, which comprises of only patron suggestions. Each movie in this log has a number next to it, the number represents how many times its been suggested by different patrons (not spam suggestions), and we basically take a blend of highest and middle section of the backlog with occasional lower ones added here and there. What we do google beforehand is what genre the movie belongs to base on IMDB so we can group them as best as we can, and when we have odd one outs that dont have enough similar films to form its own polls will get added into the "no theme" polls. Of course, that only counts for 1 of the 3 movies each week, the other 2 we try to do our best to pick ones that are different than whatever the polls winner/theme is. We have no problems doing era based polls as we have many times in the past, though the issue of "i am not interested in this specific theme/era/genre" will always occur, we do our best at keeping each poll as different from eachother as possible, and at times throw in some fun/humorous ones just to keep things fresh. In any case, we hear you, and we'll be sure to include older eras.

John

Eight men out, would be a great companion piece to Field of Dreams

Vengeance

All of these! Great choices

Vengeance

Seen a lot of great sports movies recommended in comments below, but want to throw a vote at Miracle (2004) to make a future poll. Great movie about the 1980 US men’s hockey team.

Sumner Hayes

70s stuff tends not to do as well with reaction audiences, sadly. There are some exceptions, mostly the really, really well-known ones you note (Star Wars, The Exorcist, Jaws, Taxi Driver, The Sting, etc). That's even more true pre-70s. That doesn't mean not asking for 70s movies at all, but it's part of why you're not going to see them as well-represented on polls. And when suggesting films I think it's important to think both about how good a film is and how well it's likely to do with audiences (if something from the 70s goes well, they'll be more likely to be open to more in the future)—that's why I suggested The French Connection rather than the Conversation in a previous poll. Both are great, but the pacing of the French Connection is more likely to appeal to a modern reaction audience.

Dan

I just wanna say that I appreciate how much thought you put into your process. And you guys found GATTACA, so itust be working! 😊

Sam Ferguson

I'm sure you'd enjoy any of these, and admittedly I'm not a sports person so most sports movies go over my head. But 'Rudy' is a legit classic. If you don't watch it for the channel, make time to watch it just for fun at some point on your own. It's heartwarming, and funny, and it stars our boy Sean Astin.

Guy-on-Couch

OMG PLEASE DO RUDY!!!!!! No one reacts to this movie and it's amazing!!!!!! doesn't look like it'll win but do it after the winner :)

Theo Bracco

While Million Dollar Baby is a great movie, it's going to be really though on Simone. I think we should consider that when voting.

Jeff K.

Are you saying The Replacements, which is entirely about American professional football, is NOT a sports movie? Huh?

sarCC

Hmmm, Raging Bull is my favorite of these, but I'm not even sure I _love_ it so much as I admire it. It's definitely one if the few Scorsese movies I like. I guess I'm just disappointed Bull Durham isn't on here; now THAT'S a sports movie I love! That's my recommendation.

Jeff K.

I'm all for them watching however many hockey movies it takes to whet their appetites enough to watch Shoresy as a short TV series at some point in the future.

sarCC

Goon! OMG I can't believe I forgot about it. One of my all-time faves!

Chris

It’ll never win, but yeah, I’d vote for it over this whole list. It’s incredible.

sarCC

It's so damn good.

TheTreeMeister

I suggested Rudy so many times, to see it doing so poorly is heartbreaking

James Falato

I voted for 2 Films that are in My "Must See" Category: "Million Dollar Baby" the 2004 Film by Clint Eastwood and "Cinderella Man" the 2005 Film by Ron Howard... These are films that are 20-plus years old and will be considered "Classics" 50 years from now...

Martin

Glad to see Million Dollar Baby in the lead and that the commenters' votes are outweighed by the silent majority.

jay

Hope to see more animation soon. My top picks for ones you guys haven't done yet: Up, Soul, Finding Nemo, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

Mr. Writhms

George, I see now! So we are at the mercy of the member suggestions. Well then... dammit! 😭 lol People are suggesting what they know, which is understandable. It just drives me nuts sometimes that people are just missing out on some great movies simply because they don't know about them. I guess... Can there be an era based poll of the 70s? That's one way of introducing people to those movies. And I know there is an economic factor involved. Like Sumner Hayes mentioned about the 70s movies unpopularity. That could affect your views on Youtube. Oh well... In any case, I got my point across. Thanks for the reply and information, George! This is still the hardest working channel on any platform. ✌️

Alex Ch

I love the original Bad News Bears.

Bill Woods

Basketball: Hoosiers, starring the late, great Gene Hackman (who allegedly didn't like it for some reason) Baseball: The Bad News Bears, Bull Durham Hockey: Miracle or Miracle on Ice, Mystery Alaska Cycling: Breaking Away Football: The Replacements, starring Keanu Reeves (with Gene Hackman playing another coach)

Mr. Writhms

Sumner, a reaction to the "French Connection" on this channel would appease my frustrations with the polls for at least... 3 weeks. 😁

Zinphad

It's funny, I have no interest in hockey, but plenty of interest in both of these movies.

jay

Not sure if it'd classify as 'Sports', even though it's boxing, it's more Sci-Fi, but 'Real Steel' is a SUPER underrated film! So heartwarming

jmundt33a

It’s a Twilight Zone episode that cribbed Rocky for its big debut. But it is popcorn chomping fun and the unfinished adult actor was suitably precocious and confident. In the Osment/Caulkin tradition.

jmundt33a

I’d put in American Flyers for a cycling story.

jay

Wow I had no clue it was a Twilight Zone episode!

jmundt33a

They’ve done Up, haven’t they?

j c

If we're doing Sports movies, may I once again recommend Rush (2013) by Ron Howard, a true story. Don't be led astray by the terrible title.

jmundt33a

Reason to NEVER vote for Bring It On in spite of how much I enjoy it.😮‍💨

jay

I don’t think so! If so, it must’ve gotten taken down, but I don’t see it on the Patreon either.

DanielK

Stop spoiling

jmundt33a

8 seconds kinda has the same flinch reflex as Million Dollar Baby and MDB is better work.

Tim T—

Le Grand Bleu (1988) is a sport movie.

jmundt33a

I…hoo boy. Finding Forrester has authentic basketball action, but the high-priced prep stuff is really low on the films priorities. Blue Chips is a historical artifact because it shaped the NBA for a few seasons, but I didn’t embrace it then, and still cannot. Don’t know why. Lots of outside setting, cameos, sports center, game action. Just…missed me a bit.

Theo Bracco

It's an opinion, not a spoiler.

jmundt33a

1963 episode called Steel. I encourage you to read a synopsis. Won’t post here to avoid spoilers.

jmundt33a

Melodrama? Maybe. Soap opera? This statement baffles me.

Farbod

Cinderella Man losing by this much is extremely disappointing...

Cinebinge

yep! we've done era specific polls before, including 70s and will do so again in the future!

Happy Hanukkah

"Go Sports Team!" Go go go go go go Sports Team, it's your birfday, we're gon' party like it's your birfday...

Rooster Aleution

Like other people, I want to suggest Slap Shot and Bull Durham as movies to watch. Both are great comedies that are cult classics of fans in each sport.

JarHead0351

Brian Song is a Great Sport story and base on a true story too - needs to be on the list

JarHead0351

Roller Ball is sport movie?? another good one too

Zectorman

KUMITE KUMITE KUMITE

Florian

Go Blood Sport :D Not really a team movie, nor a sports movie, but I highly reccomend it anyway, love some JCVD splits <3

JoeE

Definitely agree on bad news bears and bull durham

cj

Blood Sport and The Rookie are great

Perry Campbell

Surprised Hoosiers wasn’t in pole with Gene Hackmans death 😥😥😥

Dioskur

Ok I *know* that Million Dollar Baby is the better film. I agree. But common guys, the reaction to Bloodsport will be way more entertaining! Frank Dux is a legend!

Mr TV Eye

Raging Bull is a masterpiece and should be on top from a pure cinematic point of view, but I have to admit, I voted for Bloodsport, good old 80s martial arts B-movie trash goodness.

Beddoe

For the next Sport poll I'd recommend 'Death Race 2000' (1975).

Wilss

How is Teen Wolf not in here? XD

Shonnicus

Yes High School Basketball. But its the classic underdog story and actually it is High School Tournament season also. I'm just tying it to College Basketball I guess since popular and has the the theme of underdog teams beating the Giants. Hoop Dreams is incredible. Speaking of a story that is a documentary. Blue Chips is entertaining.

Chase Lonnergan

Well damn. I was hoping for something happy and uplifting. But postmodern nihilism wins again.

sarCC

I keep hoping to see RRR show up in the Coming Next Week On Patreon posts.

sarCC

It's too "spooky"!

Chase Lonnergan

That would be nice. Wholesome movie that one...

Brandon Meng

Million Dollar Baby is Clint Eastwood's best film, don't @ me Pitching my movie recommendations this week: Need more high school/coming of age films on this channel, so I strongly recommend Perks of Being a Wallflower. So underrated and based off award-winning literature. Personally my most rewatchable film. Manchester by the Sea boasts my favorite acting performance of all time in Casey Affleck and may be the only movie more depressing than Million Dollar Baby. About Time is the greatest rom-com sci fi movie of all time. Or is it the greatest father/son sci fi of all time? Sideways is the movie you watch if you don't have enough wine, California, or Paul Giamatti in your life. The ultimate Paul Giamatti movie, if you're into that sort of thing. IIRC you guys loved In Bruges--believe it or not, the same director did Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri which will make you cry and your blood boil in the same scenes. Cheers!

Logan Nelson

Blood and Bone!!! But seriously, can bloodsport please win?!?!

robodong

lmao im not saying youre wrong Chase, but its kinda funny in the last several polls people were complaining that its always the comedies/light hearted stuff that wins, never anything serious. and now serious wins and... yeah.

Logan Kerlee

Bobsledding - Cool Runnings xD I can't help but suggest this! I love the movie so much. :)

Jinyatta

Gotta go with the best hockey film ever made, Slap Shot.

Logan Kerlee

I just got finished watching a reaction for that and yeah.. that would make me so happy! I'd love for them to watch that! :)

FranciscoGios

First time for me that I haven’t seen Million Dollar Baby. Bring It On tells me Simone is going to enjoy it if it wins, yeah right, I don’t talk to movies. No but I think they both will. Bloodsport is a MUST!. Bring It On baby!!

Logan Kerlee

Just got done looking into that one and yeah, you've got my support! :)

Steve Mercier

Oh, dear satan, Blood Sport is winning...ah, well. (Van Damme it...HA!) You put Raging Bull on a poll, I vote for Raging Bull.

Farbod

Same. Every single reactor has the same audience.

Chase Lonnergan

I don't mind serious. Just hoping for something that wasn't a total bummer.

jmundt33a

Pride of The Yankees, Eight Men Out, and Field of Dreams also get consideration 61* is excellent.

jmundt33a

Confused Blood & Bone (which may be excellent for all I know) with The historically awful Play It To The Bone. The latter (with Harrelson, Banderas, Davidovich, Liu, and Wagner) is an enhanced interrogation technique disguised as a movie. If I need ridiculous, everyone’s an asshole boxing, I’ll take Diggstown. Thanks all the same.

jmundt33a

School Ties is excellent and it has some 1950s prep school football at its core. But it’s more of a coming of age film than a sports film. VERY early Damon and O’Donnell with Brendan Fraser as the lead.

jmundt33a

Not enough sports on the sports movie. Air Bud is more grounded.

jmundt33a

Just listen to him tell it.

jmundt33a

Seen the remake?

Walter White

Million dollar baby is winning

Bill Woods

Yes! Also, I forgot Back to School. Mostly a Rodney Dangerfield comedy, but it's got diving.

Shawn B

Yay! Million Dollar Baby finally won after 2 weeks of losing.

Shawn B

Oh crap! I completely overlooked Bloodsport, that's waaaaay better than Million Dollar Baby.

Matt Gwinn

I hope you've both seen Hoosiers. If not, I think a crime is occurring here. ⛹️🏀😉

Perry Campbell

Replacements is a hidden gem. Love those cheerleaders 📣

Mike FromOz

Counterpoint: Chris Evans and a parody comedy that ranks alongside others like Scary Movie et al. Totally worth the watch.

Martin

Hoosiers would have been a great movie to include in this poll (Gene Hackman).

Chase Schleich

I've been asking for Million Dollar Baby forever now and you go and put it in a poll against mother fuckin Bloodsport?! How can you do this to me?! Trying to make me choose between those?!.... Oh wait, I can vote for 3.... never mind. Yay!! BTW, Cinderella Man is great too. John Oliver owns Russel Crows leather jock strap from that movie if you wanna see it. lol

JarHead0351

No I did not know they remade the movie - I look it up - thanks

jmundt33a

Apologies for my colossal title goof.

Logan Kerlee

REDR58 you'll enjoy Bloodsport, I'm sure of it! It's cheesy but totally kick ass fighting! One of my all time classic fighting movie faves! :)

Sean

Wish someone would react to He Got Game

Donna Castellano

Trouble With The Curve is a fun Clint Eastwood baseball type movie. Amy Adams and Justin Timberlake are also in it.

Perry Campbell

The replacements from 2000 with Gene Hackman

Adam K

It hasn’t won yet - don’t jinx it! I’ve been wanting this to get reacted to for a long time

John

He got game is a great Denzel movie about high school basketball. It is also another great Spike Lee and Denzel collaboration. I would strongly recommend He got Game, Malcolm X, Inside Man, Mo Better Blues, in preparation for their next movie together Highest 2 Lowest

maikeru

for a drama poll: Birth (2004)

maikeru

the scene in the kitchen where deniro tells pesci to punch him in the face then they end up punching each other 😆 is peak cinema 🙌

Carl Noraas

YES! Would be SO interesting to see what they think about it.

Vengeance

Not Another Teen Movie and Scary Movie (the first one), are the only good parody comedy movies of this type that came out. Chris Evans was the perfect cast to play the male lead too. But they have a long way to go if they want to catch even most of the references in NATM.

Joe

Man I love Bloodsport. Cheesy 80's as fuck, but a lot of fun.

NoseNuffin

Agree - a great movie that has far too few reactions to it.

nossieboy

Kumite Kumite!!!

Mark McConnell

“I never went down Ray. You never got me down.”

Stugotz

One look at my pfp and that should tell you which movie I want to win 😂

rycolaa

I'd suggest The Replacements (2000) and A Knight's Tale (I think Jousting can be considered a sport) for future sports movies.

TheTreeMeister

Can’t imagine they’d ever watch it but it’s so beautiful

robodong

oh god that was soooo bad...

Art Perez

Bloodsport, Bloodsport

2026-09-05 05:00 I'm putting in a bid for you guys to watch RED and RED 2. Willis, Malkovich, Freeman and Mirren - an unbeatable team for an action comedy.

Darin Foat

Never thought I would see Raging Bull and Bring it On on the same list.

Terdell Ferguson

Seabiscuit would be a great watch for a "sports" film and a good historic film also. Nominated for Best Picture in 2003. Lost out to Return of the King, which won everything it was nominated for (11 Oscars).

Michael

Surprised Rudy got such little love, I recommend "42" great based on a true story sports movie

Adam

More sports movie recommendations. Blue Chips, He Got Game, Little Big League, Hoosiers, White Men Can't Jump, Major League. I'd also squeeze Rounders into this category, even though it's about poker. It feels like a sports movie.

jmundt33a

RED is great. RED 2 is annoying. Rather like the drop off from Valentine’s Day (unexpectedly fun) to New Year’s Eve (full belly flop)

jmundt33a

Yes. Timberlake is forgivable. Millard spent the last of his Cereal cred as an empty suit.

jmundt33a

What does cheerleading have to do with The Replacements.

jmundt33a

Already done that one.

jmundt33a

Coneheads has just about the same amount of diving.

Chris Adams

I think Simone will like Blood Sport for obvious reasons

jmundt33a

Scary Movie is tolerable. NATM pushes the envelope until it screams.

jmundt33a

Tin Cup is fun. And quixotic.

Scott Elsasser

Aw! Keanu Reeves and Gene Hackman in the Replacements!

Jessica McBride

I wouldn’t mind seeing an iron claw reaction at some point

Guy-on-Couch

most of these polls baffle me

Guy-on-Couch

RUDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dom

"You break my record. Now I break you like I break your friend."

Mikebdrx

well even if BloodSport comes in second its pretty close so hopefully that means it will be watched in a few weeks : )

Mikebdrx

Say it...! Say it! SAY IT

Mikebdrx

Its way better than Street Fighter. I'd call it a tie for me against Kickboxer though

TheGrimOne

I was hoping Bloodsport would come from behind and win. I'll be skipping this one.

Mikebdrx

I was also hoping for it to win but it’s so close that I’m sure they will watch it within a few weeks so not all hope is lost Kumite!

Rupert Purcat

I still think Cinderella man is the best movie on this list.

rictus grin

well i have seen the rookie and enjoyed it so it got my vote ;)

Chris DeLuca

Great movie even though the story is mostly BS made up by Rudy himself

Justtired

I’m fairly certain it’s called Go Sports Team because George and Simone are admittedly not big sports fans and this something a non-sports fan might say. Like, “Go squadron! Do good! Yay, they scored a goal unit!” to paraphrase Brian Regan However, yes, Major League would make for a fun reaction. Bull Durham, as well.

Chris Foster

I enjoyed watching that movie back in the day scrolling through the channels.

Random Nevermind

Since I do not like sport movies I wanna suggest something new. Here are two documentaries to watch. They are really cool: Searching for Sugar Man Fahrenheit 9/11

Angel Baby

Y’all gotta react to varsity blues

Curio

Have you considered a ranked choice voting method for the polls? It makes ties very unlikely and you get a more accurate idea of your majority votes.

Cinebinge

its actually our number one plea for Patreon to add this feature! Every time they ask for feedback we send this exact thing! Hoping one day they will add it to the site! We also encourage all patrons to send them this request too so maybe they will hurry the hell up with it!

AC10

You have clearly never witnessed Simone flip a Loon as a tie breaker... 0_o

AC10

The Rookie is amazing. Also a great family movie for the kids.

AC10

I saw it. A couple times I think. It was great.

AC10

Million Dollar Baby was great. Multi award winning if I remember correctly (I didn't verify this). Why skip it?

John_rd

Wow... How did raging bull not walk this poll? Interesting. The cinematography in that movie is unbelievable. Beautifully shot.
