I hope after you watched this episode George, my comment last week made a little more sense. And yes it was shot will all real ants!

beecroft adams

Remember Jesse digging a hole to get those methheads out of the house they get fixated on mindless tasks when they're high. Thats why she was pulling things apart. Its funny nacho has a box of toys it must happen a lot.

Rick West

Jesse made the comment to walt walt that saul got crazy 8 out of jail.this .Just have been the reference

Mike Medaugh

About Kim's story, remember this conversation after a few episodes in season 6 and see if you still feel the same way

Thall

Oh my god, the noise Lalo made at 42ish in Episode 3 is something Gabriel Iglesias talked about just a few days ago! He said it's something Latinos do, a sound that you can't argue against! He would know I guess, unless it was part of the routine but the "Mwagh." is apparently a cultural thing, just means 'Whatever you said doesn't matter." or something like that. Entirely dismissive

Dragonhunter

We don't really know when he bought the balls. Could've been a flash forward seeing how it goes back to them waking up from the beer throwing evening after the intro. So it could've happened after they met up and they just showed it earlier to make you wonder what it's for.

Inkpendude

"Yellow tint, is he in mexico?" It's always mexico

Inkpendude

As someone from south america, I didn't know it a latino thing lol I have definitely done something like that a few times

Stugotz

I believe the scene with Saul buying the bowling balls happens right after he meets with the old man, they just showed it at the beginning of the episode as a flash forward. They do that a lot in both BB and BCS

Adam Vialpando

I think he said it was Emilio. But it's still reasonable to assume he represented Krazy 8 too.

Adam Vialpando

I love how Jimmy tries to get out of helping Lalo by saying what he thinks is an unreasonable amount of money for like one day of work. Not knowing how easily Lalo would pay it.

Joel

No he didn’t. He said he got Emilio off

Adam Vialpando

In regards to Nacho's dad being naive, I agree to an extent. Yes going to the police is crazy, but I think people have this misconception that going along with criminal groups means you are automatically always protected. You can follow whatever they say and still end up dying horribly. It could be rival gangs or even people in your own gang. Nacho's dad understands that people in that life rarely end well. Nacho himself is caught between Gus and the Salamancas. Either way Nacho has nothing but bad options. In his dad's mind he should at least go out trying to take the others down instead of helping them.

Thall

Fun! I am German, never heard that done before :) We have 'the finger'! When we're really angry with someone it comes out sometimes, lol, just pointing at their face while shouting

Actuarial Lurker

What shocks me is that Jimmy actually thought that a cartel would blink at a few thousand bucks. Look at how Mike got $50K from Hector rather than the $5K they tried to sucker him not for getting Taco's gun charge dropped...

Actuarial Lurker

The cartel will kill you when they are done with you...even if they DO need you they are hotheads. Gus will kill you when he is done with you and he thinks before he acts...MOST of the Salamanca would kill first and ask questions later

Actuarial Lurker

We saw him buying the bowling balls in the prior episode when he asks how much it is to get all 3 at what looks like a pawn shop/junk yard

Adam Vialpando

There really is no good options besides running away. And that has it's own problems. I can't help but feel for Nacho. He probably joined because he was a dumb young man wanting to make easy money and found out too late the cost.

Dragonhunter

No we don't. It's the cold open of episode 4.

TGrimace

Jimmy didn't buy the balls before the meeting. The intro is often a flash forward to the end of the episode. Pretty sure that's what this was.

Rick West

Thanks, that's right,I jumped the gun on that one:)

Actuarial Lurker

Great line: Saul- "You don't want me to swallow a bunch of condoms with Heroin in them..?" Lalo: "Maybe Later...."

Thall

If you haven't already, there are Los Pollos Training videos. They are hilarious! I am not 100% sure but they should be entirely spoiler free if you know Gus is the bad guy

Actuarial Lurker

Some of these scenes start to hit hard when you realize that ALL of the characters or almost ALL are DEAD by the end of Breaking Bad

Justtired

Mr Acker is played by the excellent Barry Corbin. He was also the General in WarGames

Actuarial Lurker

George and Simone: Nobody stepped on Jimmy's ice cream. Albuquerque reaches 35C/95F regularly and up to 40C/104F in the Summer...

Helly R

The ice cream is supposed to be Jimmy's soul, imo.

Mike Medaugh

I'll ask a follow question at some point in the future

Adam Vialpando

I heard this so often as a kid from my grandma and uncles. I am Latino btw

Adam

I just saw Glengarry Glen Ross on Broadway starring Bob Odenkirk (Jimmy, AKA Sal) and Michael McKean (Chuck). It was pretty surreal watching those guys perform so close, live on stage. Kieran Culkin and Bill Burr were in it too. Pretty cool experience.

Michael Haug

He is the great Maurice Minnifield

REDR58

George, the Simone is correct, the "...Ice Interceptor" is indeed a police car, the Ford Crown Victoria with the "Police Interceptor" package, assembled in Ontario, Canada, and once one of the most ubiquitous of police cars ever built, used in the US, Canada and Mexico: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlxezm5GtSw Retired police Crown Victorias were also often used as taxicabs.

Max Hassam

Jimmy was just in the blue top during the intro when buying the bowling balls, like he was when he threw them. When buying them he checked his watch. The only other time he checked his watch was just after getting Mr Acker as a client. He wanted to check he'd have enough time to do the bowling ball stunt & get chinese food for him & Kim :)

Aedan Ryan

Exactly, chronologically asynchronous intro, the show starts off the next morning after the bottle throwing scene of the last episode. Bowling balls are bought after Jimmy stares at his windshield after the horsefucking picture and hatches the plan.

Max Hassam

I'd say the show really realistically portrays people in high-up positions that usually are depicted as dastardly cunning sociopaths. Rich Schweikart is a really down to earth, friendly lawyer (actually maybe the nicest character in the whole show), Howard is affable and not super cut-throat, though he has an ego/image problem. Chuck was really a good honest man, but of course flawed in his grudges. Cliff Main was a supportive boss to Jimmy too (and also gives Rich a run for his money). I think this was done to highlight how different a lawyer Jimmy/Saul is. I also think it is probably more accurate a representation of what high-end lawyers are actually like. Maybe not though. I don't know enough lawyers to really say.

TGrimace

Wow. That sounds pretty awesome!

Cinebinge

would that cause the cone to crumble like that though? figured someone stepped on it because it was all shattered and crumbled rather than just dissolved.

Actuarial Lurker

The ants probably ate ut and structurally degraded it. When I was 7 years old I spent an entire afternoon at my grandmother's house watching about 200 ants carry a fruit pit across her yard- they ate the fruit off the pit and then hoisted it up and lugged it...

Vengeance

So much fun seeing Hank and Gomez back and with their nonsensical conversations. And yes, Simone, we all love Kim, but she really could work on her sweeping skills. That was atrocious.

Tyler

Howard really reminds me of a more subdued version of Ari Gold in episode 4.

John Zelinka

As much as I love Better Call Saul, episode 4 made me SO mad. Howard deserves better....

CD

I am prepared to pay a channel I'm a fan of...TOP dollar...for a full UNCUT reaction to that movie!

SpankTheMonk

Better Caul Saul day makes crime go away?! 🤣

SpankTheMonk

Episode 3 comments: Hopefully no stunt ants were hurt in the making of that opening shot. Just some do it yourself childproofing on those car doors noting to worry about. That adult toy box for meth addicts is f-uged up. If you remember Jesse getting that criminal drug addiction to dig a hole to nowhere the toy box aligns. I don’t think dad is naive, more so his ethos is provincial. Frosting is delicious. I thought the ones in China are more about eminent domain (gov take over) while this situation is more of bsns f-ing with a civilian. Mr Ackers actor is an amazing actor in so many films. Or as I saw it, she saw the bottle on the edge and wants to push it like a cat wanting to cause a bit of havoc.

SpankTheMonk

I should have read the comments first before making the same point- thanks for calling it out. However I find the adult toy box a bit darker.

MarisoL

I really thought Gus was going to put Lyle's head in the fryer throughout that whole scene. Lol

SpankTheMonk

Episode 4 comments: what? They have smashing rooms! I got to book one for one day a week for life 😃. “Three bowling balls- why?” George "Obviously, you're not a golfer" 😁. Kidney-stoned ancient form of a public shaming. Public fender is a new app where you can share antique fenders. I think Alpine Grandma died a few episodes before when he got a call while working at the mobile phone store. Angel investigations I am guessing is some sort of Buffy reference? Guy in the witness stand is the creepy prick from Cabin in the Woods random fact. You are both right, she wants to employ some lawyering dark arts with jimmy for a good cause. Great call on namaste. Yeah I was also confused about the order of events on purchasing the bowling balls. Mike is feeling the exact opposite of getting revenge on the police, exactly what George said.

Philipp Roensch

Have you seen the promotional Pollos Hermanos training videos? I would be scared in Lyle's place too :D Finally, a bit of Kim backstory, which I believe she shared quite sincerely at this point. The David vs Goliath motivation of it all drives her and also informs why she sticks with Jimmy. Howard is certainly still trying to drown that guilt he feels over Chuck, and believably Jimmy, his therapy can not fix the cold shoulder and Schadenfreude Jimmy has with him though.

Brad Lowry

The actor that plays the curmudgeonly old man that doesn't want to sell to Mesa Verde is Barry Corbin... He also played the Big Loud General from WarGames ("I'd piss on a spark-plug if I thought it would do any good.") Shows up a lot and he's always really good.

Paul Mix

Absolutely… at the very least get it on a poll. An UNBELIEVABLE assembly of raw talent in that film!

Brad Lowry

George, I don't know if Simone would be okay with this, and I don't know if you want to make it a Merch Item or just a freebee for us Patreon Patrons, but I really would like to have Simone singing along with the Better Call Saul theme's intro guitar plucking as a ringtone! 😀

George made the first comment about the ants, when the ice cream cone was first dropped last week. It was prescient! To shoot it they flew out an "ant wrangler" from Hollywood. He suggested red harvester ants, which are big enough to see and shoot with a macro lens. Also they are common in the southwest. He collected them from the hills above his home in Hollywood (after the shoot he recaptured them with a mini-vac, flew home and released them back into the wild -- i thought that was cool). Apparently real ice cream is too cold for the ants (when temperature drops they slow down significantly), so the "ice cream" was an edible mixture of some kind that would survive the heat during shooting while remaining stable at room temperature.

Billy Ostrander

Jimmy in the pawn shop was a flash-forward, it happened after the meeting

2026-09-05 05:00 Simone's cynical outlook on Howard was so tragic. Howard was so earnest in his interaction with Saul, offering him a job, telling him that he, Howard, was wrong, that hiring him wouldn't be out of pity but because it was a missed opportunity.... Simone didn't seem to trust Howard's intentions, and that was a downer :(...

Completely agree. She seem to have a knee jerk reaction whenever Howard does something, which stops her from reacting rationally. It's more emotion than reason.

Redrum Sacrament

It was definitely great to see Hank and Gomez again. The actor Barry Corbin, he has been n a lot of movies and tv shows for decades. He was in The Ranch and a couple episodes of Yellowstone. I'd recommend Yellowstone, but not sure you'd find it interesting. Maybe Sons of Anarchy.
