Mulholland Drive is an experience to say the least. Enjoy! Indeed RIP the wonderful Mr Lynch. Yay for more TNG and A Bronx Tale too

Jeff K.

A Bronx Tale? Hell yes!

VeticalArtistry

You 2 having recently watched the sherlock holmes movies and loving snatch in the past, i still connot recommend "The gentleman" enough. Everything you want from guy ritchie and a hell of a story. Would love to see you 2 watch that one

Reece Chapford

Could you guys watch The Pink Panther?

TheLeftPecOfTheLord

Roger Moore Bond era let’s go! Live and Let Die is one of the best bonds IMO with a standout villain with Yaphet Kotto as Mr Big

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Agreed, and not to mention having a song this guy may have memorised on keyboards for emergency karaoke night protocols haha

Mike W

One of those rare weeks when there's nothing for me other than TNG. Maybe I'll stop procrastinating and actually get some presents wrapped now 😃

TheLeftPecOfTheLord

And the song that tragically made Paul McCartney spontaneous combust on stage IYKYK

Robban6948

I though that you were going to go back to Stranger Things s3 after Sopranos s1? Didn't you say that it was the finale of Sopranos the other day?

Julian

Hey George, just a small piece of advice for y’all when watching Mulholland Drive is not to overthink it too much. Because it really is one of those movies that’s more about feeling than figuring out. Think of it like wandering through a dream, just observe and enjoy the ride! Edit: By "overthink", I meant don't expect everything to make logical sense, not asking less questions. :)

Matt O'Keefe

First Roger Moore Bond (the Bond I grew up with) fighting Yaphet Kotto

Vellu

The Peter Sellers ones? Yes!

Michal Novotny

Right there with you but I’m still catching up with some of their older reactions so there’s not gonna be much S&G shortage this week. 😄

TheLeftPecOfTheLord

Still 3 more weeks of Sopranos finishing S1 on December 30th, Stranger Things S3 starts (I assume) on January 6th

Simon Pegged Me

Can't wait to hear Simone shred "Woke Up This Morning" on her recorder.

Robban6948

Oh I see! Thank you for answering!

Cinebinge

Hi Julian, I hear where you are coming from, and I get the point that some films are just for feeling the vibe. But please understand, at no point have I ever purposely try to think more than usual, because in order to do that I first have to know what the 'correct' amount of thinking is, and then deliberately do more. More over, in my mind observe and enjoy the ride are not mutually exclusive with thinking. It isnt a binary choice, to 'overthink' and analyze IS my form of observe and enjoy. I am sorry but theyre not separate things to me. If the request is meant to be that I need to ask less questions during the movie, or to simply ignore any confusions. Then sure, yeah I can do that.

blerbaberpaterb

the post above also does just say "Sopranos S1".. which means theyre still in S1.

blerbaberpaterb

the catalogue on their site is insanely large.

Jay

Considering the fact it's De Niro's directorial debut alone, I've never understood why A Bronx Tale isn't a more well known/popular movie. It's brilliant and you'll see a couple of familiar faces from The Sopranos. also look out for a very young Domenick Lombardozzi, AKA Herc from The Wire. Edit - main star of ABT won't show up until Season 2 of The Sopranos

Robban6948

Sure, but George said it was the finale, and the story of the episode was very finale-like. But maybe I misunderstood something

blerbaberpaterb

oh you definitely misunderstood the joke lmao. he read the title of episode 6 which was Pax Sopranos and joked that the show must be over and episode 6 was a finale since theres now peace among the sopranos. dont worry, the joke also went over Simones head.

Jay

My prediction for Mulholland Drive: End credits roll.... uncontrolled "WTF was that" giggling from Simone:)

Jeff K.

Chazz is back out performing the one man show version of A Bronx Tale and man, I'm dying to see it, but he's not touring anywhere near me (he's basically staying in the northeast for his next tour early next year).

Julian

Of course, George, I hope my message didn’t come across as criticism - I love the way you analyze films, which is why I’ve been a subscriber for so long. I just meant that with David Lynch films, I’ve seen people who aren’t familiar with his work get frustrated when they don’t understand what’s happening, but that’s not really how most of his films work, so I just wanted to give a little heads-up to enjoy the ride and let yourself get lost in it. By "overthink", I just meant not to expect everything to make logical sense. Mulholland Drive is one of my favorite films, so I just hope you get the most out of it and really enjoy the experience!

Stee Gray

I so desperately need you to finish the MI series. You are so close! Overall though, the cinebingers site has been incredible. I simply cannot sync two things up with my life so the fact I can watch full reacts on my phone whilst wrestling twin babies and everything else makes you guys the most incredible value proposition in reactions. Why has nobody else tried doing what you are doing? I would end up watching full movies 3 or 4 times over if they did haha

Maniacalmouse

Live and Let Die is the first Bond movie I ever saw and is still one of my favorites. I especially love the intro. Roger Moore is definitely a different type of Bond than Connery, but is still great nonetheless.

Jimmy Olofsson

This is a great week! Been hoping for Mulholland Drive for a long time as it's one of my favorites. Also going on vacation from work from next friday until january 6th so it's perfect timing! Also hype for the first Roger Moore film!

Major Peril

Live and Let Die on Mulholland Drive. Now that's a Bronx Tale I can go for. 😁 Looks like a great week!

Brad Lowry

Yaphet Koto! Gives me a chance to beg for one of my All-Time FAVES. Alonzo Mosely in “Midnight Run”! Yes, it’s an Action-Comedy - and there is an abundance of action, and almost achingly good character comedy between Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin, but it is so much more . Perhaps the most touching scene in DeNiro’s career (IMHO) between him and his young daughter… (Action-Comedy credentials by way of it being directed by Martin Brest who directed a little movie called “Beverly Hills Cop”!) (G&S have already seen Yaphet Koto in the first “Alien”) (“Must Catch Up” for me from IMdb: Yaphet Koto in the title role of Othello in 1980)

Timothy Peterson

When next you folks have an opening I'd suggest starting in on the old Twilight Zone series. It's fantastic.

FWPJR.

Oh heck yes!!!!!!! You two are finally reacting to A Bronx Tale, I’m so excited. I’ve been wanting this to happen for years.

FWPJR.

He was joking when he said that.

FWPJR.

That’s usually how it is every week for me since they finished BCS lol but now I get to look forward to Sopranos ( sadly season one will be over soon and they’ll go back to ST ) plus they rarely react to any movies I have seen, but this week they are reacting to A Bronx Tale. So I’m excited.

FWPJR.

I’m excited, been wanting for them to react to it for years.

Jimmy Olofsson

I'm really intrigued to see how they feel. I really enjoyed their reactions to previous mystery movies on the channel but also David Lynch feels like another step because he can be so vague about what certain things mean. But if you can just appreciate the art for what it is and draw your own conclusions it's a wonderful box to open :)

J.R.

new releases I think you should consider and ideally fast track: One Battle After Another (moty for me), Bugonia and Wake Up Dead Man (Knives out 3)

Gunther89

You should put Mystery Men on a poll.

Richard

A Bronx Tale nice 🔥

Mike W

Yeah, i'm constantly amazed how much quality content there is. It must be quite tricky trying to cater to so many people's preferences.

Blqbrd

Apologies! It appears I misread the correspondence, and ‘Apocalypto’ will actually be apart of next next weeks lineup! Please ensure you’re oiled up, and well rested. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Matt O'Keefe

Midnight Run is Great but remember, they had a hard time getting on board with the mix of tones of Beverly Hills Cop.

PureGonzo

So begins the journey (hopefully) into the brilliantly unhinged mind of David Lynch!

FWPJR.

I do that sometimes, but I have to be interested in the movie to want to try and watch it lol

dansoddity

2nd this, they have to watch Bugonia and One Battle After Another

Tyler Foster

Hoping for magnolia and Inherent Vice also, among PTA films.

Tyler Foster

Cinebinge consulted a lawyer before doing this, per their own posts. I understand why the lawyer would say this is legal, and admittedly I'm not a lawyer, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. However, one of the issues with "fair use" is that the parameters of what is and is not fair use are not outlined in specific detail, so this approach is simultaneously not ruled out by fair use, and also not unambiguously protected by fair use either, because the key to fair use is that the material must be "transformative." In other words, do the reactions by Cinebinge transform this from being a copy of a movie (illegal) to being commentary or criticism on said movie (legal). There's no evidence that this is *likely*, but there is always the possibility that a studio could go after them, shut the whole channel down, and have their whole archive taken offline, which is a risk other channels understandably do not want to take.

Tyler Foster

Part of the reason is probably because it was not very easy to get ahold of on home video for many years. Only recently did it get a 4K remaster, with a new Blu-ray and 4K edition, as well as being made available on streaming.

Tyler Foster

Midnight Run is great. Blue Collar comes to mind as well as another great Kotto movie.

Matt O'Keefe

I think their continuous commentary over a whole film or show is what protects them. They never stop talking really at least not for a noticeable amount of time. But I am not a copywrite lawyer so IDK.

Tyler Foster

Similar to Julian, I'm not out to criticize you. Still, since the discussion has started, and because you've asked before, the one thing that I would say you do that fits with what Julian is saying (which is both a very minor thing, and also something most people do but isn't as obvious because they're not verbalizing their thoughts like a reactor has to) that you could potentially work on is: be more patient in terms of just allowing yourself to sit with strange or unexpected choices in the filmmaking or performance or writing (by which I mean, bold creative choices that might confuse you in the sense that you think "that was wild," but are not confusing in the sense that you're lost or don't know what is happening in the story). Often, when a movie does something that throws your expectations of what the movie is attempting or where it's going out of whack, it's not that I don't think you should comment on it, it's that sometimes it seems you are trying to cleanly resolve the fact that these choices seem weird *right there and then*, when in many cases something that feels weird at that moment will seem less strange somewhere between that moment and the end of the film, or even (especially thinking of a filmmaker like Lynch) that the choice is just supposed to be strange or jarring or odd. If this bothers me -- and this part is not something you've suggested you do, nor am I complaining about it, it's just useful context -- it's because we live in a "CinemaSins" era where movies are constantly nitpicked online for lore inconsistency and other gaffes, and in an era where Hollywood loves pumping out prequels and spin-offs to fill in backstories and cover ground that was implied by other projects. There is the sense sometimes that everything must be explained away, and that a certain type of smooth coherency is the most valuable quality for films to have. My opinion is that movies are not a math problem. The art of filmmaking is very flexible, and while the vast majority of films are conventional (and then many of the unconventional films, like Mulholland Dr., are so unconventional that there is no questioning their strangeness is intentional), sometimes things in movies are just meant to be strange or inexplicable. I wish I had a better example, but the only thing that comes to mind is some comedies, where there is a certain level of absurdity or the movie is a cartoon, and it sometimes feels like you're trying to come up with some sort of explanation as to *why* it it's wacky. Maybe it's just wacky!

Tyler Foster

Like I said, that *seems* like it would make sense, but the law provides no unambiguous threshold for what constitutes Fair Use. It's why studios can keep claiming all of these YouTube videos that are 1/3 or less the length of the movie and most of what is preserved is the reactors talking. Some people leave quite a bit of the movie in, but if you were asking me, I would have to say that I have a hard time believing any YouTube video of a movie that is at least 80 minutes long, with a resulting video that is around 30-40 minutes (especially when, with George and Simone, 10+ minutes of that is intro and outro) does not meet the legal requirements for fair use. It's true that some people don't take art seriously, but assuming we're talking about people who don't think reading a Wikipedia summary of a book or movie is the same as experiencing it, I cannot imagine any serious film lover watching a 35 minute YouTube video *instead of* watching the film. They're watching the YouTube video because they want to see what those YouTubers have to say about it, which in my mind proves the content is "transformative." With that in mind, if a studio can claim any number of 30-40 minute YouTube videos that take over an hour of the films out and replace 75% of what remains with commentary, it's absurd to think they couldn't try to claim any videos that have the complete movie and audio playing. And then it would be up to a judge, which would be subjective.

Tyler Foster

Hopefully all of them, up until Sellers passes away. I'll let others go to bat for the rest.

Tyler Foster

If I were picking another Guy Ritchie film, I'd like Man From U.N.C.L.E.

KM

They might like Twin Peaks even if they're not big fans of Mulholland Drive.

KM

Analyzing is actually my favorite part of watching (and rewatching) MD!!

Com1xguy

Oh geez I hope so.

João Rafael Ferreira

"we live in a "CinemaSins" era where movies are constantly nitpicked online for lore inconsistency and other gaffes" " There is the sense sometimes that everything must be explained away, and that a certain type of smooth coherency is the most valuable quality for films to have. My opinion is that movies are not a math problem. The art of filmmaking is very flexible" Tyler, thas was 100% on point And is actually something that is discussed a lot by critics (at least the good ones). There is definitely this CinemaSins idea going stronger today making the audience treat art as a math equation. This goes with a predominant obession with realism (things that happen in movies has to be like in real life, people in movies have to speak like in real life), poor cultural review that tends to take decades of cinema, styles from diferent places, eras, and fit all into writing formulas that were made for a very specific period and comercial demand. This also leeds to other things like a false hierarchy of genre (comedy, action and horror are less art because they inherently tend to rely on fantasy more than drama), among many other debates. * that was not an answer directly at G and S, just to add to the comment

PureGonzo

This seems like a good time to suggest “21 Grams.” It’s another masterpiece starring Naomi Watts that came out just a couple years after Mulholland Drive.

SANAMDEEP

episode seven is my fav episode of Sopranos s1, excited to see you react to it

Poineapples

A Bronx Tale!!! Hell yeah, I was hoping it would happen eventually. Now all I have to do is hope hard enough and maybe you guys will eventually check out Guillermo Del Toros Pinnochio

Matt O'Keefe

Yep, specifically George had the issue mainly. The action, comedy, some serious parts. I do not get it, but he did.

Alex Hyrule

Nice We're getting into the Roger Moore movies now. Very Exite

blerbaberpaterb

i watched it recently and i think Matt is being too harsh and twisting his words a bit. what he said was that the comedy parts and the action parts felt very separate, like the movie was originally meant as a serious film then they added the comedy later. which he turned out to be correct because in the trivia of that video, they read that it was initially written for Stallone. as a serious action movie.

Matt O'Keefe

I think you are right. I was too harsh

Wesley Allison

I'm probably the only one who'll request this, but I think you should watch Jos Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing. You'll recognize all the cast from Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, and Firefly.

Stefan Daniw

Please Do: Mr. Deeds A Million Ways to Die in the West The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009) Zombieland 2 Little Nicky National Treasure 1 and 2 Due Date (2010) The Judge

YukoValis

I very much want to recommend Knives out 3. Aka Wake Up Dead Man.
