We heard your feedback! From now on, all anime content we create will include an alternate Dubbed version available over on Cinebingers.ca!

Our recordings are done in Sub, that is the format we prefer to watch in so there may be some minor translation/timing variations as we are just putting the dubbed version over our recording.

None the less, for those of you who like to put our reactions in the background while you do other things. You will now be able to know what's happening in the Anime without needing to stop what youre doing!

While I’m glad people are getting what they want, the purist in me is shaking my head and looking disapprovingly.

probablyKoi

The amount of effort you guys go to to provide all these versions is crazy, glad you still have the subbed version as in almost all cases except basically Cowboy Bebop I can’t stand dubbed anime

ruinfox

I hate to bring it up again, but if / when you react to Cyberounk Edgerunners, will you watch the English dub? It has Giancarlo Esposito voicing one of the characters if that doesn’t sell you I don’t know what would 😅

Dragonhunter

I won't need that, just here to tell you how much I respect all of your efforts to please your audience. It's crazy how much you put out and how many options you offer. Thanks for everything.

Steve Matthews

That's good, I much prefer dub myself. It's especially funny watching along with dubbed and you guys calling Erina - Arena, LOL.

Aridevo

I super appreciate this, as I do not speak or understand Japanese, and only have the time to watch your reactions while working (70-90 hours a week), I have been unable to watch any since the start. Love you guys, and keep up the amazing work!

Stephen Morris

When I was young I loved subbed but as I get older my eyesight isn’t what it was, so I appreciate your effort to accommodate everyone. Thank you for all your work.

SelasDray

Phew, I misread that as you saying you were switching to Dubbed versions and had a mini panic attack. Thank you for continuing to watch in subbed format! Very accommodating for you to provide an alternate version to people though. Your work and effort these past few months in this revamp has been nothing short of incredible!

Smooticus

Appreciate all your efforts! I like dubbed, but prefer subtitles - I know i'm getting the actual dialogue and plot that way. It's a holdover from growing up in the 70's when a lot of anime dialogue wasn't only translated, but was often re-written entirely. There were episoded of G-Force and Speed Racer that made absolutely no fucking sense

Matthew Richson

I’m never a particular huge fan of this way of doing it because it’s not honest to the version you’re watching. The footage playing may be dubbed for us to see but it’s not the version you two are reacting to…

Matthew Richson

Feels like a pointless endeavor TBH. If they won’t react to Cowboy Bebop or FMAB dubbed themselves then what are the chances they’ll react to Cyberpunk Edgerunners dubbed? Original audio argument and all that… ‘sigh’

Reed James

Damn, you guys do a lot of work. I appreciate it even if I like that your watching subbed.

Zedarion

for me i can only see anime with sub's, dubbed is realy weird for me to see and realy is cringy sometimes. Some english voice actors change the meanings so they mean something entirely different then the anime intended it to be, like adding woke political comments.

Matrim

Most modern dubs are fairly high quality, but having grown up in the Wild West of 80s-90s dubbing, I’ll always look askance at it by default. Honestly, biases aside, I still think the FMBA Japanese cast is better, especially since the lead in the dub is a creep.

ruinfox

Well if they do they’ll realise it’s very impractical if not damn near impossible to read the “subtitles” for the phone calls, episode 1 big scene and they’ll be struggling to keep up plus with the screen effects over it too lol, wouldn’t be the first reactors I’ve seen who watch episode 1 in Japanese and then switch to English for the rest 😅

Matthew Richson

Also the fact that the setting is California USA… but I feel that detail might get ignored.

M.C.G

This is really neat! I tend to prefer subs myself, but this is an excellent accomodation, thanks for going above and beyond!

Matthew Richson

Regarding that last bit, I honestly feel that issue is greatly exaggerated. The handful of examples getting blown up in terms of attention.

Balmung

As someone who generally does not like dubs, I still feel like this is amazing for both accessibility and just thoughtfulness. Great job

Rant Al’More

Nice, I really don’t understand how anyone can watch a reaction with subtitles so this is great

Rant Al’More

You’re not gonna convince perpetual victims what reality is

Rant Al’More

Amazing that you can just not watch then

David Szoke

Dubbed is great for the sight impaired who have trouble reading text and also distracts us from the reactions because we focus on the text.

blerbaberpaterb

it sure is considerate of them to give such an easy identifier with the word "woke". so the rest of us know not to take anything said seriously.

blerbaberpaterb

then just watch the subbed version. no ones forcing you. you dont have to like it, but im sure people who are visually impaired are glad of its existence.

Red Freckle

I think there are a couple of exceptions you guys could make, where there english dub is generally considered just as good as the original, FMAB for example.

blerbaberpaterb

so then stick with sub? its literally at no cost to you but benefits others. for example people who are visually impaired that cant read small texts.

Matthew Richson

I’m just saying that this way of doing things always feels weird to me because it’s not what the reactors are reacting to. But I guess I never really take into account the impaired and others when it comes to this… For that I apologize.

blerbaberpaterb

Tomas, you are aware that visually impaired people exists yeah? where reading small text is impossible for them?

Godrick

Oh boy, the elitists are here already 🙄

Godrick

...what the hell are you even talking about man??

blerbaberpaterb

i personally prefer subtitles. but the amount of people having knee jerk reactions to an extra thing that has ZERO effect on them is just sad. its existence takes away nothing from you. but it does help those who are visually impaired. but hey, fuck those people right? cause the existence of an extra version just offends your delicate senses. all because others get to have the same convenience as you, at no cost to you.

Godrick

Ya said "Purist" but i heard "elitist". Its really easy to just let people enjoy things however they want and NOT have a problem with it

blerbaberpaterb

okay but the existence of this extra version affects you how? in what way does it affect you negatively, or take anything away from you. why does it remotely bother you that others gets to have the same convenience. they arent taking away subbed version, they arent switching the version they watch. it literally in zero way affects you. what you are complaining about is other people getting something nice, something equal to what you already have.

Red Freckle

Your opinion is duly noted.

Godrick

I just gotta clear up a misconception you seem to have about translating Japanese.. its a Kanji or character based language where each "word" can have several meanings at the same time. The verbiage around a key word in a sentence or a phrase needs to be changed when translating to English because direct translations are also missing social context for a term that can already have multiple native meanings. This is why you'll hear Japanese people commonly use english when they want to be super specific. Moreover, Japanese anime voice acting is cringe in Japanese too. Nobody actually talks this way, its like the difference between having an english conversation on the street or talking to someone like youre on stage putting on a live play. As far as the "woke" stuff, youre just off the reservation

Rant Al’More

I mean… I speak English. God forbid I prefer hearing English lol

Red Freckle

Good. I'm sure George and Simone will take the popular opinion into consideration.

Stephen Morris

Sorry my poor vision is the wrong crowd, smh.

Anna Kyruin

Lots of wild takes in these comments ranting about the superiority of their favorite on a thread about how they're accommodating both sub and dub. FFS some of you need to realize your experiences are not universal.

Red Freckle

You seem quite passionate about this topic Tomas

dlpheonix

When an english director is actually given funds and time to do good work its fine. The issue is they dont get that.

Guts

Sub snobs. That's the wrong crowd. 😂

Ari Ramirez

Not even Netflix rolls out updates this quickly, thanks guys!

Guts

There are absolutely English dubs that I prefer and my first language is not English. I sample both and when I get the feeling that the English dub is as good or better then I stick with it. Like with Berserk (1997). In this case the dubbed version is much better, not just because of the voices (specifically Guts' and Griffith's), but also because the subtitles in this one are for some reason like a stupidly dumbed down version of the god-tier English writing. The translators that wrote the Japanese subtitles did a terrible job. It's like a different show, the English writing is like Shakespeare while the Japanese subtitles are sometimes on the level of a storybook for kids. I don't know why that is though. In general, there is something to be said about hearing the words and understanding them audibly while being able to focus your full attention to the visuals instead of reading subtitles. It elevates the experience in a way that those only watching in Japanese will never witness, unless they do speak Japanese. Also, some people might have disabilities or just do something else on the side (I like to do that on rewatches). Sub snobs are an insufferable bunch, especially if they haven't even sampled the dub of the anime in question, and just blanket refuse all dubs. It's almost like native English speakers have an aversion to their own language. If you were watching an animated show from, let's say France, would you be as adamant about watching it with subtitles in the original language if the English version was just as good? If so, why or why not (it's both just voice-over work)? Or why don't you just watch everything animated in Japanese, like say Avatar: The Last Airbender?

Guts

In case of Berserk 1997 I'm always so disappointed when reactors watch the Japanese version because the subtitle translations just suck so bad for some reason and also Guts' English voice is so much better as well, but with most other animes I don't mind either way. Although reading subtitles just sucks if you don't want to give it 100% of your attention at all times.

AC10

Oh thank you! I don't mind reading subtitles... EXCEPT I CAN NEVER KEEP UP!!! They always talk faster than I can read half the time!!! So many people get upset when someone mentions they prefer Dubs saying it ruins the art etc.. Well some of us agree the original language is beautiful and we would love to enjoy it reading the Subs but that doesn't always work out in the reality of the real world. Even if we aren't just listening to it in the background (which is a major good point I hadn't considered yet).

Kyle Fleming

For new anime shows could we do a poll regarding Sub vs Dub? There’s some Dubs that are regarded better than the Sub by the wider fan community. “Deathnote” is one of those exceptions.

AC10

The distracting from the actual video is really what ruins it for me more often than not. The faster or more often the characters speak the more my focus is at the button of the screen desperately trying to keep up reading the subs... All the while the bulk of the video part of the story is passing me by. Sometimes when a dub is not available I re-watch an episode to focus mainly on the video and I often discover I missed many important parts of the story the dialog doesn't tell.

cincassette

Interesting. I would usually watch any movie/show in their original language with subtitles, but as someone who isn't a big Anime fan, i'm now more inclined to maybe play some of these reactions on my second monitor while playing video games or doing something else. Though there are a handful of Anime shows that i'd be keen on watching in earnest, namely "Cowboy Bebop."

Lorkein

I also prefer subtitles, but giving a choice is always great, and I salute the efforts and time you spend on it! Thank you!

Sam

I dont watch dubbed but I think its really cool that you provide both versions for people even tho you provide sync anyway. I appreciate the bonus effort.

blerbaberpaterb

lmao attract the wrong crowd... all those dub watchers bringing their dub drugs and dubstitution.

Harold Wright

Waiting for them to react to "Ghost Stories" and the two dubs to be totally different experiences hahaha.

jmundt33a

Many thanks for this.

Blkm44

Thank you so much!

Dustin Duvall

I'm coming from complete ignorance in this question, just starting my anime journey with this channel. Out of curiosity, what would make a dub the preferred version?

Pendergasted

Very cool...that is the main thing that has kept me from these in the past.

Hamesque

You should also dub over each other for the intros and discussions.

fwfwfwfwf wfwfw

thank you :-) and appreacite the hard work :-)

Hamesque

Generally speaking the main argument is that Smart/Attractive/Sophisticated people KNOW that is better, while is what Idiots/Philistines/Left handed people prefer.

Andrew

This was a great idea. I like subs for some anime, but some have such good dubs (food wars is one) that I'd strongly prefer that. Thank you for the hard work!

Timothy Peterson

Good idea because for some (like me) I tend to listen to things in the background and not watch them. So even if I agreed the sub's better I can't consume the content because I don't speak Japanese. (I neither agree or disagree, I have no strong opinion on it.)

Logan Kerlee

This is awesome! Appreciate the effort, you two! :)

Tangerra

I will say as an English voice actor there can be a lot of skill that goes into an English dub. There also can be a lot of bad performances/writing as well. Ideally, a good dub has an excellent performance in addition to a translation that keeps the essence of the line if not the literal writing involved. Some things don’t translate well, and that can lead to something that is superior in the original Japanese, but it still can mean the subtitles Dont quite work either. In any case, it all can stem from the artistry involved, but a dub is a great way to access a work if subtitles either distract or are hard to keep up with. Ideally, we’d all be multilingual, but oh well.

~Mercedeez Lee~

Putting in the extra effort to please the viewers is goated, honestly you guys didn’t even have to do this considering you also have ‘timer reactions’ available for everyone, so people could just as easily sync up their own copies ( with whatever audio they preferred, Japanese, English, Spanish etc. ) to your guys reactions but it is very thoughtful & much appreciated

PIG

I don't even really watch anime and I'm happy that you've done this lol

blerbaberpaterb

dude how are you not getting this. no one is saying you cant protest. we're all telling you your protest is dumb and makes no sense. youre protesting the existence of something extra that doenst take away from you. youre protesting other people getting same treatment as you. they didnt announce switching to dub forever, they didnt announce no more sub. they literally just said "hey, heres an extra choice if you want". thats what youre protesting.

Red Freckle

do you get notified for every response to a comment George?

Red Freckle

the conservative weeb is such an interesting subset of humanity.

Red Freckle

Excellent to know :] thanks for the reply. ❤️

Matthew Maxon

thank you very much for this. could you also please upload a dubbed Shogun?

Joe

Please, please do a poll for what version to watch. Shows like My Hero Academia have wonderful dubs, and hit harder for non Japanese speakers. So many of the emotional beats and humour in the sub can get lost in poorly worded subtitles. I have seen the show in both sub and dub and for me, the dub is the better experience.
