Oh boy we're in for an insane journey

Badsos123

OH MAN YOU ARE IN FOR A HELLUVA SHOW!!! BE PREPEARED!!

Zaj

This... This is going to be great...

Jasbro

Ok this is a good one, i've only seen a couple of seasons and keep saying ill get back into it again, so this is perfect.

TurnerK

Peak. Hang in there, it's worth every second!

Matthew Richson

Oh here comes the emotional draining rollercoaster…

Alexrandom

Holy shit !! holy shit !! I hadn't seen this in the planning. I'm so fucking happy to rewatch this knowing everything and seeing you guys witness it for the first time. Can't wait ! 😊

Zaius

I am glad you watch it in Japanese, the english voices really doesnt fit the characters. :P

JujuShaqfuu

So excited to rematch this here, off the bat if you've only seen the first season then youre in for a ride!! Lets all enjoy this together ❤️

Dragonhunter

No spoilers don't worry but the funny thing about "the final season" is there was "the final season part 1" in 2021 then a year later they released "The Final Season part 2" and in 2023 they released "The final season part 3 The final chapters" which was split into two 1 hour long episodes with 6 months between release. It was so frustrating as an anime only watcher. After part 2 ended I just looked up the ending in the manga. Been watching since 2012.

OddNoobian

Check out Devilman crybaby for anime pretty much about the end times like u were asking about.

Chris Henderson

I never realized how much foreshadowing was in these 3 episodes.

ArcadeAndy

Simone questioning her life choices because of something George said 30 seconds into this pre-roll is EXACTLY the intro new patrons should have to this channel. Welcome to the chaos, cinebitches!

m0lika1 .

I haven't watched this show from beginning to end in full for ages so starting it again, knowing everything that's going to happen, feels weirdly nerve-racking? lol. So excited to see you guys experience the twists and turns of this rollercoaster

Spectre Mando

At least you're not waiting years between seasons like demon slayer lol

Kaz5209

Technically there is a "beach" episode ... not the one Simone is thinking of though 🙃🫢

~Mercedeez Lee~

Just a little tip for knowing when important post credit scenes are at in AOT episodes for Simone and George, is if you guys DON’T see a ‘To Be Continued’ screen pop up straight after the episodes are done just before the ending songs, then that’s how you know there’s a post credit scene. Also just wanna take note that there’s some OVA’s that are a must watch between certain seasons too ( don’t have to watch them all, just certain ones that give more insight and depth into the story ) but hopefully people in the comments will let you guys know when to watch them when it gets closer. AOT let’s go !!

Reed James

The manga author says the walls encompasses an area the size of Madagascar. But let's go. This a perfect adaptation of the source material. All questions will be answered that you ask, just be patient. This is a show that rewards rewatching. I'm glad you guys watch through to end credits. You don't have to watch previews, but some episodes, especially in later seasons, have post credit scenes, including the last episode of Season 1.

Thall

Since I didn't see it anywhere: Can I assume that you always watch the dub? Would be cool to know :)

Yel

funny you mentioned your OPM reaction, Eren was voiced by the same VA as Sonic the ninja in the jp dub.

Opti_Frog

I fully understand why reactors react to this one, it's one of the most popular anime ever made. But since G&S are doing two anime at the same time, i was kind of hoping they'd do a mainstream one and a more niche one as the second. Attack on Titan taught me something. Action anime is not my thing. I watched the entire first season of AoT expecting to enjoy this massively hyped anime, but never really did. I hope those who love this anime have a great time watching it with G&S.

Thall

Uh, George, if you're interested in scale I am sure there is one of those "all ships in Star Trek to scale" videos where they show all of them one after the other!

Opti_Frog

Yes, ranked as 50 on myanimelist.net's list of top anime. Just as mainstream as AoT. While not a generic and edgelordy shounen like AoT, i've never been a fan of neo-noir and the aesthetics of 80s anime. For a bit of reference, my favourite anime of all time is ranked 701 on myanimelist.net's top anime list. 😋

Thall

I would've never thought I'd get spoiled about stormlight this much on an AoT reaction LOL (it's all fine, just funny)

dansoddity

just to clarify on what you guys were saying with stormlight, attack on titan's manga started in 2009, the anime adaptation started in 2013

dansoddity

We had to wait 4 years for s2 of AOT, at the time I think I gained a foot in height by the time it aired💀

luckyopening

the finale episode of the first season does have an actual post credit scene please dont miss it

Omar Bautista

Anyone thinks next weeks episode gonna be funny because people are gonna act like Eren is dead but we know these guys are episodes ahead to the point Eren turns into the skeleton titan stopping the cannon ball

Mister_Momus

Hey George, you can just say it's a used napkin and spare us the details about what you've done to the poor apple core. People eat things, people sneeze - especially in the spring, so ambiguity is your safeguard.

Tom Hess

Us - What great anime shows are you guys going to watch? Simone and George - Yes.

Benjamin Trewin

Just seeing this post has made my day worse... Because now I have to work all day before I can watch it. God I can't wait 😂 Hope you are ready for the emotional rollercoaster it is.

Landon DuVall

I'm really not trying to rile up the sub vs dub people, genuine question here. Does anyone else have a hard time reading the subs, watching the show, and paying attention to their reaction? It's too much going on. That's why I much prefer the dub versions. I guess I get it for some shows, the dubs can suck. But like for this one and some others like Fullmetal Alchemist I think they're really damn good. Idk I may have to sit this one out cause it's just overstimulating. Still glad they're watching it though.

Igor Iksanov

I'm so excited for this. I'm obviously not going to spoil anything but whatever you think this show is, it's not. Your minds will be absolutely blown by the reveals and different it feels from season to season in the best way possible.

Igor Iksanov

it doesn't matter. There's something for everyone in anime and we don't know what they'll like until they watch it. I recommended Steins Gate early on which is one of the highest rated shows on myanimelist and it completely disserves it.

~Mercedeez Lee~

That’s why they have the ‘sync up with your own copy option’, so that those who prefer dub can still watch their reactions but just have to sync the dub version up from your own device

Cinebinge

hi there, on our site cinebingers.ca you will be able to find both dub and sub versions uploaded. while we may have watched the show in sub, we also provide it in dub precisely for those who want to avoid this issue, or have us on in the background.

Tom Hess

Maybe S&G will occasionally switch to lesser-known shows in a few months/years. Right now they're still "relative" newcomers to the genre. Makes sense to me that they're reacting to the popular/top stuff. What would you consider both niche and really good, out of curiosity? Note: I just checked that website and my favourite anime is #2174. Ouch. That's not niche. That's subterranean.

Anthony Villena

The Attack on Titan: Junior High spin-off shorts are probably the closest you would get to beach-like episodes. Watchable after season 3 but probably better after the series.

Max

pls upload twice a week im so down to rewatch aot

Teddy Roosevelt

Ah yes. The show that promotes race war as a good option.

Max

george is going to need therapie after season 4 XD

Xeco

It i going to be funny how they will make theories and stil make nothing out of them.

ExMastery

Plz for the love of god DO NOT watch the season intros from the get go. Season 1 not so much, but season 2 onward they give so many spoilers for absolutly no reason. There are list on the net as too on what episode it is "safe" to watch the opening from each season

K

George I know it’s tempting but even googling how to spell someone’s name can be a spoiler in this show. I accidentally spoiled myself so many damn times just looking up what I thought were innocent things. This is one show you cannot Google about. But I’m so so excited to be rewatching it with you guys!

Scott CineRam

Oh good, an anime that I've actually heard of.

dys

That kind of thing has never been a problem for me but I also read pretty quickly. I'm glad they have the dub option for people who need it. The dub is preeetty good IMO but there's definitely some stiff or flat line readings, it's not like say Cowboy Bebop where the dub is at least as good as the original.

djKENTO

OAD means Original Animation DVD or Disc, they're usually sold in combination with a special manga release or a toy. For AOT these are episodes released to fill in back story for side characters. These are good to watch. Just watch everything in the order they came out with the OADs. The OADs are good and new content. They add like 6 episodes total. When you get to the end of The Final Season Part 2 instead of moving to Part 3 you can watch Attack on Titan The Last Attack which is exactly the same as watching The Final Season Part 3 BUT with enhanced animation. This is the ONLY movie worth watching. You won't miss ANYTHING by watching this version. The only real difference in runtime between the two versions are the missing intros and closing credits sequences. The rest of the movies are condensed recaps with enhanced animation... but The Last Attack is NOT condensed. It leaves out nothing. Some people stop after season 3, watch the recap films just because they're really pretty and it is a great recap. but they are TOTALLY unnecessary. So again... just watch in release order with the OADs... at the end of The Final Season Part 2, just watch The Last Attack instead of The Final Season Part 3.

dys

I don't totally disagree with this guidance, but on the other hand that's how we all watched the show as it was airing. Is it really spoilers if that was how the show was intended to be viewed?

dys

A lot of the hype is for what comes after season 1. It does start with some generic fantasy tropes (the classic hero wants to see the outside world, hometown gets destroyed and parents get killed sending them on the adventure), but it ramps up the pace and goes some very wild places after that.

Adam Vialpando

Normally I would agree with this. But I make excuses for anime. Unless they are completely random like Dandadan or Chainsaw Man or just composed of vibes like Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, I avoid anime openings.

DM DC

Based on his last comment at the end of episode 3, George should check out "The Road" 2009 staring Viggo Mortensen. I have only ever seen the first season. And it was a while ago. At the time I first watched this there was no English dub. It was subbed and I know I missed a bunch as I just can't read fast enough to keep up with the subs and the action. Coming back to the show is nice to see if I can catch what I likely have missed first time around.

M Matthews

The total area within the walls in disclosed in one of the info cards in this episode, approx the area of France or Texas ~700,000 sq km.

Landon DuVall

Oh I didn't know that! I'm mostly here for TNG and movies so I haven't really been to the anime side. I'll check it out.

Opti_Frog

@Tom Yes, like i said, i completely understand choosing to react to AoT. And it does take a while to find hidden gems. What i'm talking about are the genres and subgenres that can mostly only be found in anime. Like Gabriel DropOut, Ben-To, D-Frag, Kokoro Connect, Non Non Biyori, Yuru Camp, and of course, my favourite anime of all time: Sakura-sou no Pet na Kanojo. With S&G being fantasy buffs, i'm sure they'd have a great time with Restaurant to Another World or Interviews With Monster Girls, both great anime that, most importantly, aren't shounen.

Carlos

"Alright, I was making a Jojos reference..." "OOOOOH NOOOOOO" Gigguk has tainted so many moments for me 😆 Btw, idk how far y'all are in recording, but Attack on Titan in 9 minutes is worth a laugh. Been a minute since I've seen it so i don't remember if it spoils or strongly hints at anything beyond the first season.

JulioLG

What a time to have checked in this folks patreon.. I'm totally in for this

Ari Ramirez

"I didn't realize this show was so old" insert gif of private Ryan aging

oscar latorre

About something george said at the end... you should watch devilman: crybaby

Green Nolan

You will definitely get answers to all of your questions, including the title of the first episode. But you're asking good questions!

Readster

My personal recommended watch order is: Season 1 > Ilse's Notebook OVA > Season 2 > No Regrets OVA part 1 & 2 > Season 3 > Lost Girls OVA part 1 & 2 > The Final Season > Lost Girls OVA part 3 > The Last Attack Movie

nossieboy

def gonna be watching these

Eversharpe

The incessant repetition is slightly annoying. We get it, you want to do something about the titans. There's no reason for them to eat each other, there's an AYCE Human buffet at their literal feet.

Logan Kerlee

Watching this first was the right thing to do this morning. :) Super enjoyed these reactions! I'm very much looking forward to future epispdes of this. lmao, I was LAUGHING so hard when the both of them were shocked by how gruesome the first attacks were. xD You're both in for some dark times ahead. Get ready! ;)

Space Crow

George is gonna love this show it really makes you think and speculate

Adam

It is time

Andrew H

Can't wait for the rest of this series! Strong recommendation for Haikyu-- it's light, fun, hilarious, and endearing. I think you're gonna need a show like that while watching AoT lmao

Maxime

I'll just say, you will have answers to your questions, but you will wish they arrived sooner I bet, enjoy

Dragonhunter

It's only a spoiler because you know the whole context of what's shown. Would be really impressed if they figured stuff out just by watching the intros and outros.

pinkdino99

George - John Carpenter made three films which are an unofficial Apocalypse trilogy in which it is GAME OVER for humanity before the first reel is run - The Thing, Prince of Darkness and Mouth of Madness. Also Romero's original Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead have humanity's days ending.

Dragonhunter

It's written in this post they watch the sub version for the recording but they also offer the reaction with the dub if you prefer that.

Thall

huh, must've overlooked that. Thanks!

~Mercedeez Lee~

Forgot to say the other day but you guys definitely do not want anyone to potentially spoil anything in ANY season. The reason for this is because even stuff that occur in season 1 connects to other parts of the anime in other seasons with more insight and depth, even in the final episode ( or the movie ). The author of the manga ( Isayama ) pretty much already had a rough idea of how the ending will play out before he even started to make the manga. So a fan who has watched all of AOT can unintentionally spoil something without realising it just by discussing events that we see in season 1. Best to warn fans ( Patreon & YT watchers ) not to say anything on the story & just stay completely blind. The experience is so much better honestly cause AOTs writing is really well thought out and amazing. Also regarding the movies, the one that is called ‘The Attack on Titan: The Last Attack’ is basically the only one you guys need to watch. It’s pretty much just the final two special episodes from ‘The Final Season’ of the anime combined together but with way better quality. Apparently this is how it was supposed to be released originally according to what one of animators said but due to scheduling issues & conflicts, the anime studio that worked on it had to settle for splitting the last part of the story by making the two special episodes first to wrap up the anime quickly. They got the ok to release the movie version later on, like almost a year after the anime finished I believe, can’t remember exactly when cause it’s been awhile. I went to go see it at the movies & it was great even though I had already seen the two specials back when the anime ended. You guys don’t have to watch it technically since it’s just the last two episodes of the anime but it’s honestly up to you guys if you wanna experience the end of AOT in typical anime episode style or anime movie quality style

JulioLG

Label AOT only as action anime is wild

JulioLG

George, if you want a story that shows the end I recommend the book "The time machine" by H.G. Wells. Very good portrayal IMO. It has a movie adaptation from 1960 and other from 2000-something, but neither of those show the book's end.

Edina Lewis

Does Simone know that by watching the sub version she’s missing out on an amazing Mat Mercer performance??

Opti_Frog

Did i? I don't think i did. I made a reference to action anime in general, not specifically AoT.

funky weapon

the moment the kids open the window to that goofy fucking giant smiling at them, I just heard Sloth from the Goonies shouting "Hey, you guys!" I dunno. I think the titans are just really stoned and really hungry. if the humans made an offering of cheetos and mountain dew outside the wall, that'd probably do it.

Juan

I've been waiting on this for so long!

gfixler

George probably already looked this up, but I just did, and found this: https://www.cbr.com/why-german-sounding-names-anime-manga-popular/ Seems right up George's alley—back-story, historical stuff, WWI, etc. > Anime fans have likely recognized that many of their favorite shows contain German -- or German-influenced -- character names, references, and settings. > Whether it’s Eren Jaeger (Attack on Titan), Johan Liebert (Monster), or Bleach’s Wandenreich faction, German culture and language have continued to dominate many components of several highly successful franchises. So, why has Germany had such a strong influence over anime that has become so prevalent, even now? > German-Japanese relations were officially established in 1861 when the first ambassadorial visit to Japan from Prussia occurred. During this period, Japan began to rapidly modernize, which would see the increased production of goods, with the nation becoming a military power by the year 1895. This revolutionary change to Japanese society was the culmination of two important factors: The Meiji Restoration, which consolidated the political system under the Emperor of Japan, and an intense intellectual and cultural exchange with Western European nations. > Throughout the Meiji period (1868-1912), many Germans would come to Japan as advisors to the new government and contribute to its modernization. The Constitution of the Empire of Japan (1889) was greatly influenced by German legal scholars, who convinced the Meiji oligarch and future Prime Minister Ito Hirobumi that a Prussian-style monarchical constitution was most suited for Japan. During the late 19th century, Japanese military officers would be sent to Germany to receive training and learn about the German military system, which would dramatically change how Japan practiced warfare and the technology that they used within it. > Between 1885 and 1920, relations between Germany and Japan cooled, and eventually disintegrated with the initiation of World War I, in which the two nations fought against each other. However, by 1926, a cultural agreement was signed between the two countries (“Japanese-German Cultural Society) was established. During this period, over 80% of Japanese students going abroad ventured to Germany for their education, in which many would later go on to be prevalent leaders of their country throughout the 1930s. > Japan’s relationship with Germany became even stronger by 1938 when they signed the Anti-Comintern Pact with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. This agreement acted as a stepping stone for the formation of the Axis powers, which was cemented in the Tripartite Pact of 1940. Germany, Italy, and Japan agreed to deter America from joining the war, strengthen German-Italian advancements in North Africa and the Mediterranean, and defeat British colonies in South-East Asia. > With such a rich history between these two countries, It's not really a surprise that anime has absorbed elements of Germany’s language, landscapes, and an assortment of other cultural assets within its own vocabulary. Japan was greatly influenced by the Western powers of the 19th century, in which its current form of government, military, industry, and international relations have all been heavily impacted by German thinking, traditions, and customs. This has effected a multitude of areas within civilian life, and the arts are no exception. Anime, like all mediums, reflects the perspective of its writers and artists; while imagination is a big part of the creation process, drawing upon aesthetics and stories from real life is bound to occur. > One factor, outside of Japan’s close relationship with Germany, that might have contributed to anime series using Germanic names is the rise of viewers from Western countries. Anime has become the third most in-demand category on Netflix (5.5% demand share worldwide), which saw a 50% rise between 2019-20. Crunchyroll has also had a massive influx of users drawn to its platform, in which it saw an increase of 4.9 million subscribers from 2012-21. Now, with the attention of a captured international audience, mangaka and anime directors will likely be far more inclined to make their character names, settings, and themes more relatable to viewers living outside of Japan. While Eren Jaeger may not be as easy to say as John Smith for English speakers, it might just be a little less daunting for some than Hideki Ryuga.

ExMastery

I get this point, and to a degree I agree with it. However, when I was first watching, I did it with some friends that read the manga, and they could not belive I didn't 'cus I got figured so much from the intros when I was speculating and got it about 80% right.. Maybe 'cus my job is somewhat investigation related, but stil..(psychologist working with police) I think it's kinda of a thrope with anime opening in general... except some like Adam said above, chainsaw and the likes, wich are a lot more general vibes, but anime opening tend to be somewhat spoilery, even if said spoiler it to be unreaveled within a couple episodes

Matrim

Episode 3 makes me unreasonably angry given what we learn later.

deific

Disclaimer: Im watching along with you guys, I have the same knowledge and context as you as a first timer. I'd argue 2000 years is the opposite of specific. It couldnt be more round of a number. Unlike say 2135 and 5 months. I interpreted it more like "A long time ago.. in a galaxy far far away" type of thing.

Raven Dark

The audio is out of sync on the first episode. I don't know about the others, because I'm leaving the comment after only watching the first one in case I forget later. the first time I noticed it happening is when the explosion goes off early on. Simone reacts to it a couple of seconds before it occurs. First time watching a show like this, like, ever, and it's fracking awesome so far. Great reaction, too! Oh, man, that head biting thing was hella dark. Wasn't expecting that.
