Just want to try and clear things the best I can to help you guys. Sukuna said he refused to help Yuji, not that he refused the pact. The pact was forced on Yuji—he didn't agree to those conditions. I think when Sukuna says "Enchain," he takes control of Yuji's body for one minute, but he can't kill anyone. There's also something he wants to do, but we don't know what it is yet. Also, with the sorcerer and curse grading system, a Grade 1 sorcerer is generally stronger than a Grade 1 curse. Special Grade is the highest rank, but there's a huge gap within it—Gojo and Sukuna are on a completely different level from the other Special Grades. We saw that in both of their fights against Special Grade curses. One more thing: the volcano guy, Jogo, is extremely strong. He just happened to face the strongest sorcerer.

Yes, they kind of explained the grading system in the show but I know some people still don't get it, which is fine. Basically the grading system was developed by sorcerers, so it matches a sorcerer with a cursed spirit they can defeat. A Grade 1 sorcerer can defeat a Grade 1 spirit. That means the sorcerer needs to be stronger than the cursed spirit of the same grade. Therefore, a sorcerer is generally equal in strength to a cursed spirit one grade above them, but it can vary based on many factors, like the match-up between the cursed technique and the spirit's powers - some cursed techniques can be better or worse at countering some spirits. So basically, when a sorcerer fights a cursed spirit of their own grade, they can be assumed to be able to defeat the spirit, but when they fight a spirit one rank above them, it's a coin toss.

The reason Nanami told Mahito his ability is because explaining your techniques makes them more powerful in-universe, they explained that a couple times before. Also the monster that killed Junpei's mom was not Mahito, it was just a normal cursed spirit that was attracted to Sukuna's finger (hence why they snuck it on Yuji's person to lure it there) Yuji also accepted Sukuna's pact THEN got sliced instantly, you're able to turn down pacts but Yuji was confident he could beat him because he was overconfident

Just to clarify. It was Mahito that pointed out and was surprised that Sukuna wouldn't help Yuji even when Yuji told he would do anything if he'd heal his friend. In fact no one in in JJK knows that Yuji and Sukuna made a deal... except Sukuna himself due to the nature of their deal.

The pack thing can be a little confusing in this episode so I’m going to try and help clear things up. (Sorry in advance this might be a little long) Yuji and Sukuna have a pact. The rules of the pact are: 1. When Sukuna says enchain he has full control of Yuji's body for one minute and he can't kill anyone. (Note: there is a translation error where enchain becomes exchange in the anime) 2. Yuji will completely forget that this pact was ever made. Because of that second stipulation no one knows about the pact between Yuji and Sukuna except Sukuna. Gojo suspects that a pact was made but he doesn’t know what the pact is. Mahito and the other curses are trying to get Sukuna on their side. Mahito’s plan was to change Junpei so that Yuji is forced to negotiate a pact with Sukuna in exchange for Sukuna healing Junpei. Mahito and the rest of the curses don’t know that Sukuna and Yuji already have a pact. When Yuji tries to negotiate with Sukuna to save Junpei, Sukuna refuses because he already has a pact with Yuji but Yuji just doesn’t remember. Also Yuji trying to forge a pact in that moment confirmed to Sukuna that the pact was 100% accepted because Yuji doesn’t remember it. Mahito is shocked that Sukuna refused to make a pact with Yuji in that moment especially since Yuji said he would do anything Sukuna wanted if Sukuna healed Junpei. However, Mahito is under the impression that Sukuna has yet to forge a pact with Yuji, so turning down Yuji when he is clearly desperate doesn’t make sense.
