TheLeftPecOfTheLord

Once again, I highly highly highly recommend watching Thunderbolts*(2025). Not only is is a really great movie and one of the best MCU projects of the multiverse saga, but it will also be incredibly important context for Doomsday.

Aatxe

I agree with the first comment here: watch "Thunderbolts*". While the MCU had been hit or miss since Endgame, Thunderbolts* is a solid hit that is refreshingly grounded when it comes to the characters and their development in the film.

djKENTO

this has Destin Daniel Cretton as the director, same as Shang-Chi and the stunt choreographer is the same as Jackie Chan's stunt team leader and old stunt double. DDC is doing a live action version of NARUTO next... which is Ninja Harry Potter.

newhastings

A lot of people did not like the VMAX reveal but honestly I really like it because it’s way more devastating and fucked up than if it actually was something substantial. Also he’s not credited here but Justin Kuritzkes is responsible for re-writing a lot of the script, which is probably why it’s my favorite MCU Spidey. He wrote another Zendaya film, Challengers, which is a lot of fun!

Imnotlamp

I never saw this in theaters and dont sail anymore so I've been waiting for this for months. Excited to first watch this with yall and then all the other reactions today!

Brandon

Got up early because I've been dying to rewatch this one again. https://youtu.be/XPHrx7HnEnU?t=2500 Some More News did a really funny segment about people wildly misinterpreting the ending of the movie on social media. It's a long video, so the link takes you to the start of the section where they specifically talk about Spidey.

Jeff K.

100% agreement. It's one of the best post-Endgame movies by far, and man, without getting into spoilers about the theme of the movie... well, I actually can't say more without giving stuff away so I'll just say it's absolutely worth the time.

JC

I found this movie to be well made, but lacking. Didn't buy Sadie at all. Mutation story goes nowhere (didn't even get a hint of man-spider). Punisher inclusion was fun, and the story from the last movie at least was allowed to play out appropriately.

WhiteHawk

Alas this one is a bit off on the timing, reactions coming just before the events.

Matt88g

George asked about mcu X-men

sadden

Yeah the sync was really off, SImone saw him get hit by the Frank's truck a good second or two before it happened

Cinebinge

will export a new version, should take about an hour to replace.

Reece Chapford

👋 I was watching your Young Frankenstein episode and thought "they should make themselves black and white whenever they watch a black and white movie" is that something you guys can swing?

WhiteHawk

Yes that’s when I stopped.

WhiteHawk

Thanks again, appreciated. 👍🏻

Simon

Yeah the first half Simone was reacting about a second before the movie, then around halfway they both are reacting nearly 4 seconds behind the movie. Glad George is exporting another version.

Eric Wilson

So I have a theory on this I want to put it out somewhere because I think I am the first person to consider this. I think the asbestos in his appartment played a part in his change. He has been apart from MJ for 4 years already while living in asbestos fillef apartment that is known to mutate DNA. I think it helped jump start the transition.

Aatxe

Man, I'm still wondering if they'll ever have the balls to do Man-Spider in live action. It was my favorite story arc in the 90's animated series. It could easily be used with The Other storyline. BND definitely hints at The Other.

James MacDonald

Think this was slightly out of sync to start but somehow got very out of sync mid way through.

Cinebinge

exporting a new version, should take about an hour to replace.

Robert Cooper

Re: The Hand.. What's even more annoying is after they were the big bad of Daredevil, having them suddenly seem to be 8 people Spider-Man defeats off screen is kinda dumb. Also, my GenX heart was really hoping Sadie Sink was playing Firestar.

Cartoons ReAct

Even if not for a reaction, you guys need to check the different tv shows Marvel did for the MCU included SheHulk which explains the Hulk/Banner situation

Corabal

A great spot by Simone with Tom Hollands beer popping up, didn't even notice that

Nathan Jasper

Yes, to your question Simone, there is a plot arc in comics and in the 90s animation where Spider-Man's mutation is much more grotesque than shown here. It really is more Fly-level as George was anticipating.

Nathan Jasper

So glad the reveal wasn't spoiled for you guys!

Warmachine1228

You're missing some context because you haven't seen Thunderbolts and She-Hulk. Dr. Banner was in She-Hulk. It's not the best series but there are some VERY good parts and some interesting surprises

CT

Movie was boring AF. I’m actually surprised at how emotional you guys, especially Simone, is trying to be watching this dribble.

Warmachine1228

Btw, I suggested that you watch Punisher: One Last Kill before this to see what this Punisher was up to before this movie and get a feel for him. I still recommend it... if you want to see this Punisher get brutal. 😉

Cinebinge

no sync version has been updated, new link in the post. sync version will be replaced in 45 minutes.

Cinebinge

no sync version has been updated, new link in the post. sync version will be replaced in 45 minutes.

Jacob

drivel not dribble

ChristianK

I will echo the sentiment that you guys should watch ThunderBolts*. One of, if not the best, MCU movie since Endgame. It actually has a very deep message in the movie, lots of emotional stuff that I'm sure lots of people can relate to and Yelena(Florence Pugh) is amazing in it

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

I was fortunate enough to be there for some of the shooting, with this one. They came to Glasgow (Scotland), to film some "New York streets" scenes. I'm from the Highlands, but I was in Glasgow the same time they were doing the shoot.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

"how dare you not feel the same way about this 'dribble' as I did."

Chris B

Probably people have mentioned it, but sync is off, your reaction is delayed compared to what's going on on-screen. I think it get's more off sync the further it goes into the reaction.

CT

I was right. Dribble. Like the dribble of drools falling on your chest as you watch this movie like a mindless child who only see the shiny picture on the screen.

REDR58

I really liked She Hulk and Tatiana Maslany is absolutely wonderful in that series.

Cinebinge

hi Chris, a new version for no sync has been uploaded and the new link is now in the post and on the site, may need to refresh page. a new version for Sync with will be ready within half an hour.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

That's what I dislike most about the Marvel franchise. There's so much of it, a lot of it not so good, but you need to be aware of every show to make sense of the main movies like Spider-man.

REDR58

Thirding your seconding. Watch Thunderbolts.

Jaaahn

its frankly amazing how difficult it is for some people to just move on from something they dont like, instead of feeling the need to be an ass and act like theyre 'superior' for not enjoying something, like they cant feel good without talking down to others.

Warmachine1228

The rumor is that after Secret Wars they are going back to a mostly disconnected universe between TV and movies. This is part of the reason they canceled all of the upcoming shows. It isn't that they aren't doing new seasons. It's the fact that they're changing the directions of the new seasons.

Chris B

Awesome! Thanks!

Leenis

Is this a repost? I swaer I have seen it...

Mimic 19

I've seen people complaining how Jean is irredeemable because she killed innocent civilians...when there are plenty of superheroes who caused the deaths of countless innocents across cinema (directly or indirectly) Yes there's a difference between buildings coming down on civilians during a fight and intentional killing, but its still taking a life. Green Arrow killed innocents directly (in his show), Hawkeye became a Vigilante and killed crime lords and Henchmen (and whos to say absolutely every Henchmen was horrendous people or not, we don't know) Superman's fight with Zod led to the deaths of thousands, even Affleck's Batman actually killed criminals. Wolverine, in his berserker state, killed who knows how many innocent people. Black Widow was part of the KGB. Tony Stark built weapons that were used by terrorists that killed innocent people. Then we have Harley Quinn's whole situation, yet people grew to absolutely love her. Then we have what happened with Loki. That's just a few instances. Am I defending Jean's actions, no. Do I think she's an example of a person who was dealt a bad hand and needed help whilst making bad choices, yes. Yes, at the moment, Jean doesn't seem to regret her actions, but we literally just got Sadie's Jean, I think people need to be patient. All the other heroes (for the most part) have had redemption over time, Sadie Sink's Jean has alot of time for redemption and remorse in her future. Hell, look at another the crimes of another character that's not even a superhero, Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2. Mass murder, thief, torture/mutilation, Arson, bank, train, wagon and shop robberies, home invasion...that's just the tip of the iceberg for him, and guess what? Over the course of time (not right away) he redeemed himself and became one of the most beloved characters in all of video game history. There are characters (including superheroes) that have done significantly worse things than this Jean has done, and many MANY of those characters have become beloved overtime. I sincerely just think we need more time with Sadie's Jean before any of us can really say for sure how "irredeemable" she is or isn't. Sorry for the rant, just thought I'd say my peace on that whole topic. I will not respond to replies on this particular comment, I've heard it all before and do not intend to get into it with anyone else.

Gizmo_Mogwai_

Awww I was hoping that the thumbnail was going to be Simone in a cacoon of webs. 🤣🤣

KIERON

It's fine but it's just the ICU/I see you twist done in other things

Senec

Regarding Simone's gripe about Zendaya looking too pretty as MJ. I dont mind it, but not for the reason you'd assume. My line of thinking is that initially, we see her looking like MJ, and as time goes on, she is shown as more refined, and attractive. Simply put, she had a boyfriend. Depending on how long the relationship has been, its not weird that she would care more about her appearance if she was trying to be attractive to someone. A guy who wants to stay in most of the time is likely to not give a damn about their significant other's appearance, they're just happy to have them around. If you're going out into public, or social situations with friends, the expectation is to keep up appearances. As a side note, it took me a bit to recognize Milchik from Severance, but he was perfect for that role.

REDR58

If Luke Skywalker can redeem Vader, Jean can certainly be redeemed. And yes, I know it's a different universe.

REDR58

You absolutely do not need to watch everything. Nearly every single MCU movie can stand on its own without background. For example, you can watch "The Marvels" without having seen "Ms. Marvel" as the movie very neatly summarizes who Ms. Marvel is. The thing is, if you do watch all the side stuff, like the TV shows, you just get more detail and story. That's it. You don't need to do homework, as people often call it.

Ashton Lewis

She wasn't controlling the Hands movements in that fight, she was just controlling their minds and making them fight. Turning on a switch in their minds to make them fight Peter, using their skills and weapons. Her power had evolved from just hopping from one body to the next and puppeting movements

Mike FromOz

For the new no-sync version, when I watch it I am getting a time code that shows up and runs over the subtitles. Is this something I've made happen, or is it just something from the latest sync? I've gone and looked at other movies on the site, and it's not showing up for them. I don't know what I could have clicked on for it to happen.

Ashton Lewis

I think the mutation part is just to help bridge the gap between MCU character (incredibly nerfed in terms of Spidey Sense and reaction speed, for the most part) and comic book spiderman, albeit, with natural webbing.

Cinebinge

no no thats my bad. forgot to turn it off after resyncing. will make an other version.

Mike FromOz

Ahh no worries. Phew, I was racking my brain trying to figure out what I might have done wrong. It's all good, I'll wait for the next version 😁

Brandon

The V-Max reveal here is the V'ger reveal in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I'm surprised I don't see more people mention this.

Jay

George. is the Nosync version supposed to have the timecode running over the footage? ive never seen any of your other nosyncs have that. minor annoyance but I can get over it. I know you JUST had to reupload so i dont want bother you again.

Peter K

Most definitely recommend watching Thunderbolts*, especially if you want to understand Doomsday when it comes out...really different MCU movie

REDR58

I bet that was fun! And it reminds me that some scenes set in Philadelphia, PA in the movie "World War Z" were likewise filmed in Glasgow, Scotland and none of those scenes set on the ground in the city (especially the front license plates on Pennsylvanian civilian vehicles... yee-argh!!!) look anything like Philadelphia. But more about that in my comments over on the World War Z reaction.

Nathan Jasper

One man can live up to Hugh Jackman. The Cavillrine! And honestly Liam McIntyre did a fantastic job in the Wolverine game.

Nathan Jasper

"Just because someone stumbles and loses their way, doesn't mean they're lost forever"

James Wise Magic

Seems like a lot of people are recommending Thunderbolts and I couldn't agree more, it's a wonderful movie! Also, while I do agree that The Hand was under utilized in this movie, it wasn't for nothing, George's point that it could have been anyone, even Scorpion wouldn't work because we've seen Spiderman defeat Scorpion, both the regular Scorpion and the mind controlled Scorpion. Meanwhile Peter genuinely was having a difficult time fighting The Hand. Yeah Jean was controlling them but it's still their talent and skill that was kicking Peter's ass. Something that Scorpion and someone else probably couldn't do . Also on the point where George didn't like Jean hurting and probably killing innocent people, I think it's important to remember that Jean IS the villain. Yes damage control was her main motivation but she still turned into a villain so killing innocents wasn't out of the question for her. Think of Wanda, she had a tragic backstory and she too was hurting and killing innocent people.

Jaaahn

so that means the cleaning lady at the start knew how to drive a tank? lol

Kevin DiSalvo

I was today years old when I learned Simone is a mother

Ashton Lewis

No, somehow Jean did I guess haha. Not sure how to explain that one away 😂

Jaaahn

lol well jean being able to steal memory and knowledge could explain it, and there for she manually controls the janitors body.

Ashton Lewis

Yeah but that's at the start of the film, before she unlocks her proper abilities. I would assume she was just controlling the janitors body at that point. Not sure why either of them would know how to operate the tank though

WhiteHawk

Yep, unfortunately that’s also covering the subtitles, which isn’t a big deal for me but it will be for some so another upload might be needed to deal with that. Edit: And the change in time sync hasn’t moved enough, they are still reacting to stuff before it happens so might as well fix that at the same time.

Nathan Jasper

right? It's almost like she's not in high school anymore and becoming an adult

Kenton Kruger

Cliche maybe, but it is effective here. Also with all the magic and science jibber jabber in the MCU it wasn't 100% obvious until the reveal. The only reason I think I guessed it was twist early was it including MAX. Max Headroom came out when I was 13, so pretty much any time I hear "Max" my mind goes to the double meaning.

Raven Blackrose

About some points, Jean is still the Villain (also, psychics in Marvel have a bad track record of messing shit up) And The Hand while dangerous, have already been whooped by the Defenders pretty good, and exist in Marvel to be a big threat to street level guys, but as punching bags for high tier Metahumans. Also, the Conservation of Ninjutsu exists (one ninja is a threat, a hundred ninjas are target practice)

Ashton Lewis

Apparently you are right, it's her stealing memory and knowledge. So then it sounds like she actually was controlling the hands bodies then, using their skills. I wasn't aware she had thar ability. Sort of like Rogue

Jeff K.

Regarding Jean as a villain and doing bad things in this movie, as well: it's not like Jean Grey has always just been a pure and good character, historically. She's done a LOT of fucked up shit. Obviously, the bulk of that was because of the whole Dark Phoenix thing, but she's always been at least a little morally ambiguous. And it's important to note this is before she met Xavier, so chances are, she'd have no guidance, and hurt people hurt people, etc.

Brandon

I like that the upcoming X-Men movie isn't going to give us Wolverine right away. My concern is that once they introduce him, the movies will mostly be all about him again. It will either be in a good way, where everyone ends up loving whoever they cast. Or it could be in a bad way, where the internet loses their shit over whoever they cast. I disagree that nobody can live up to Hugh Jackman, though. Whoever it is, he's out there. People thought the Bond franchise would lose its audience after Sean Connery was done. Here we are, with more than 60 years of Bond movies behind us. That reminds me: IMO they also should have recast Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa when he passed away and delayed the movie's release. I don't believe for one minute that Chadwick would have wanted the character to be put in limbo. We might have gotten a much better Black Panther 2.

funky weapon

the Jean controversy is interesting to me because on the one hand you have people who say "that's not Jean Grey from the comics," but on the other hand... Jean Grey hasn't been interesting since she died on the moon. this version of the character isn't adapted from any one source, but I think that's fine. most of the time she's just Cyclops's girlfriend, and Slim practically has a harem of far more interesting girlfriends now. but it does speak to the interesting friction that's developed between comic fans and the MCU in general. I think the issue is that the MCU is such a hodge-podge of Ultimate Comics, animated series, and the main 616 continuity that it's probably best to consider the MCU its own separate entity that's concurrent with the comics, as opposed to an adaptation of the comics. I think that sentence makes sense. also Thunderbolts was great and was the first sign of life that Marvel wasn't dead yet.

John W Foster

Sarah is Jean's older sister in the comics (though she's not a telepath).

Tay Schumaker

Not that we know for sure, but the handshake just seems to be muscle memory, which wasn’t erased. And then he puts the Peter thing together. I don’t think he actually got his memories back or anything

Gilthwixt

Jean Grey being kind of an asshole to normal people feels out of character, but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense from a planning perspective. When they eventually bring the X-Men into the mainline MCU continuity, the story can't work without humanity hating mutants. But in a modern day society where you have people like Spider-man and Hulk running around, it wouldn't make sense for them to hate mutants arbitrarily. Having Jean cause a lot of collateral damage as humanity's first exposure to mutants is probably planting a seed for that resentment in a future movie.

Tay Schumaker

I mean for one, the Hand are cool, it’s a spider-man movie so have some cool shit. Also she can use their memories and skills, of course she can. She doesn’t know how to fly a helicopter or do crazy ninja shit. She can impose her will on them too, but she can use their skills as well. You’re the first person I’ve seen bring up her harming innocent people, which I think is a legit point. But I also don’t think the fact she does bad things make her irredeemable. It’s a good setup for why she needs Charles.

Felreign

I also highly recommend Thunderbolts, not just for continuity, but because its just really good on its own merits.

Allan

There's also plenty of precedent for X-Men characters starting as villainous or at least morally ambiguous and then joining the good guys. Rogue, Gambit, Emma Frost, to name a few. It's not the usual starting point for Jean at least as far as I know, but I think it makes for an interesting setup here depending on what they do with her character going forward.

Cinebinge

file replaced one more time. should be good now, refresh page.

TalynOne

Another vote for Thunderbolts, it's easily one of the best of the MCU.

Jeff K.

You know, people used to joke that Daniel Radcliffe should be the new Wolverine because he's much closer to being comic-accurate with regard to his height... but of all movies, Weird made me think, "Huh, that's actually not the worst idea," because he's shredded, and the fight scene in the diner was legitimately good and made me think he could do the action-star stuff. (I would also accept Cosmo Jarvis from Shogun, who while not comic-accurate in terms of his height, has a great look and voice for Logan.)

Fipse

Wasn't it confirmed that she did not kill anybody? The Director or somebody said nobody died in this movie.

Stan the Man

Anyone else having a problem watching the full unedited version? I get a notice saying I’m not subscribed to the right level of access? I watch unedited stuff all the time from these 2

Cinebinge

Hi Stan, your current tier on Patreon is for TV & YT Edits Only, which as the title suggests does not include full length film reactions.

TalynOne

To me it was pretty obvious Jean also adopted the skills of the people she was inhabiting, otherwise how would she know how to use Scorpion's gear so effectively? Even when inhabiting Frank she knew he had issues and adopted his gun handling, bomb skills. The reason for the Hand is she adopted their skills and leveraged them. It should be re-iterated Jean is THE omega level mutant, her power scale is off the scale compared to any other mutant. The ability to control so many people at once requires an unfathomable amount of mental capability.

Raven Blackrose

Also also, telepaths can generally do the 1:1 thing, but less often. Like, making the hand fight is usually the more common thing, poking at brains, saying "fight that guy". And Jean Grey is THE telepath.

Thall

It's a fun ride and all but... so many things just dont make any sense... Example: Why wait 2 minutes for the vault opening? Why not just blow it up and get in there. Why are the Avengers not here immediately if they get a call that the Hulk is loose? Why not have Spiderman put on the inhibitor immediately after saying "It's universal" and he gets consent? Just slap the damn thing on.

Raven Blackrose

Sorry, one last thing: something to mention is about this, and, indirectly, Superman: sometimes people just show up. Like, Marvel has thousands of Metas, hundreds of bad guys, dozens of evil groups. And like, 90% are in NYC. When The Hand shows up, superheroes generally react like they just saw a bunch of cockroaches "goddamnit, more piles of faceless ninjas". Plus, ninjas look cool. And end of the day, being honest, these are childish fantasies, so Rule of Cool wins.

Juan Sanchez

You guys should give thunderbolts a watch it’s worth it with doomsday coming up!

James W.

Since we have been seeing these stories, X-Men, Spider-man, etc, for so long I think it is imperative to layer in a bit of "player knowledge" to steal a ttrpg term. I agree with George that Jean was 100% injuring, imperiling, and possibly outright killing some civvies, but I have to assume there has been an undercurrent of abductions of people like Sara, that have been happening since the introduction of Damage Control back in Homecoming. Especially since Tony died and they seem have become their own organization with no one we know/trust at the helm except folks like maybe Valentina who is not a good guy. Different circumstances between the comics world and film adaptations but mutants are being scooped up, cataloged and murdered with no oversight. I would react violently to that too. The old refrain from X-Men comics and the films is 'why would mutants try to help those who fear and hate them'. This is something we see in the OG comics introduction of a lot of mutants being adversaries first, like Rogue, but later after they meet an Xavier type that can try to guide them down a more moderate path. Even the 60s X-Men books they were seen as outcasts, they weren't like the Avengers or Fantastic Four. Damage Control has been popping up in the Disney+ shows for awhile now and in increasingly oppressive and shady ways. Good thing to slot in for the introduction of the X-Men and mutants to the MCU because there are always the William Styker's and his ilk that are fucking with the X-Men though institutional and organizational power. Sara is a relatively new addition to Jean's lore, I read X-Men for a about a decade in the late 80s to late 90s and don't recall her having a sister in that era of stories, especially not a powered sister. This take on Jean is my favorite. In comics I kinda hated her and Scott because it was just pure soap opera drama and she had no personality that wasn't attached to her relationship to Scott or to how Xavier was suppressing her powers, memories, etc. In this she has her own point of view, as extreme as it is, and Peter's unerring morality was a great combo with her. BND is my favorite of the Tom Holland Spider-Man films, he feels the most Spider-Man to me in this. I really like the big wrinkle introduced here though, since Peter basically just created a means of suppressing, controlling, or enslaving powered people. That is going to be very dark. They have already announced core cast for the MCU X-Men at D23 a couple months ago and as an X-Men super fan from way back, I am very excited.

Garrett Mazzuca

Pretty sure Jean Grey didn't kill anyone in the movie. Seriously injured, sure, but I don't believe they showed any casualties.

REDR58

The Avengers are Somewhere Else. Can’t have them show up every time in situations like this because it’s infeasible to have so many other actors there in a Spider-Man (or any other solo hero’s movie) and even if that were possible, I think it would get boring to have a bunch of other Avengers always showing up in the nick of time.

REDR58

Yeah, once you are dealing with a mind-reading being who can also control the people she’s reading, quickly learning the basics of what she needs to do seems trivial.

Robert Carter

Yep. All her life she has been let down by people she trusted and lost people close to her. Totally understandable that she trusts nobody and sees people as potential dangers to her. She also sees Spider-Man working with Damage Control so in her mind, he is as bad as them.

REDR58

My solution to “it’s not like that in the comics” was from the very beginning to not care about the source material. I haven’t read any sort of regular series since the 1990s and even if I did, it doesn’t matter to me. For me, the comics and any other non-live action MCU material (but including the MCU animated series that is canon to the MCU) that doesn’t contradict what we see in the MCU is its own continuity. Just like how, for me, the Gibson Max Max movies are a different continuity from the Tom Hardy Mad Max/Anya Taylor-Joy Furiosa movies.

REDR58

This of course, reminds me of the endless recasting of Superman in the last decade and a half or so. Most of the new Superman actors have been really good, but but they take so long to make those movies and then the actors start to age out or they change the continuity again.

James W.

Hulk has been the focal point of a lot of concern since the Ed Norton MCU intro. Avengers gave the illusion that Banner was somewhat in control, but in Age of Ultron Wanda sets Hulk loose with her hex powers and he goes on a rampage in Lagos, Nigeria iirc. All of the Avengers had to work to bring him back down. Basically an out of control Hulk and Wanda is what precipitated the events of Civil War. Just saying they have plenty of justification in place for people have people be afraid of metahumans. Even in this film Spidey slipped for a second his cop friend was like you get one strike.

Amar

You should watch Florence Pugh’s first ever major film “fighting with my family” it’s a sports drama with a lot of heart.

2026-10-22 01:00 I saw discourse on this before I watched the film and assumed he just got his memory back because he was magic but after seeing and the scene where MJ slips and calls him Peter I tend to agree with your interpretation. The handshake meant something though, it was very intentional. They could have just had him introduce himself as Peter and let Ned connect the dots without it that. There is another bit too, in the comics something like the mind wipe happens, everyone forgets Spider-man secret identity but one of the few beings that remembers his Hulk, not Banner iirc, but Hulk. I think that scene in this where he appeals to Hulk as friend and he backs off, MAY be an allusion to that but also, maybe just reaching though.

Tramell Tillman as Milchick and here, Metzger. He's 41 and this is only his 4th movie with a new one out last month and 3 more on the way. Since 2015 he's been in 7 different TV series and 8 roles on stage.

@Foodmancing

Simone seriously has the worst memory of anyone I’ve ever come across 🤣🤣🤣

James W.

Agree about Jean being kind of shit character in the comics after you get into and also agree about Thunderbolts.

I'm just happy to get a real redhead as Jean Grey, not like those fake redheads Sophie Turner and Famke Janssen!

That’s how I got the Hulk interaction too. Cause as you said, Hulk remembers in the comics. Kind of thought it was a little Easter egg

djKENTO

oh George... you have so much news to catch up on. They announced the cast for the new X-Men movie and FINALLY an American New Yorker is playing Charles... the way it should be. Also the end credits REALLY remind me of the opening credits to Cowboy Bebop The Movie...

Senec

Warning, Captain Marvel spoilers ahead. Second warning, in order to not be spoilers, you'd have to watch Captain Marvel. It's also similar to the VERS reveal in Captain Marvel. It's not an actual name but a snippet of a label. A sticker on an overhead vent here, a damaged dog tag in Captain Marvel.

Ben Stevens

as a lifelong x-men fan, please, for the love of Stan the Man, don't watch X-Men the Last Stand or Dark Phoenix. neither truly touch the awesomeness of the Claremont storyline written in the comics, and really cheapen the characters of Jean, Scott, and Xavier. Professor Hulk in Endgame says he was in his lab doing "gamma therapy" for 18 months to merge his Hulk and Banner personas, which is sort of revealed in the She-Hulk show as just guided meditation, and as hypnotherapy in the comics. He's had an inhibitor or some version of it since She-Hulk.

Senec

Agreed. Here, Jean is young and angry. Looking for answers and getting stonewalled by a clandestine agency with public support and trust. She really has no choice but to do something more drastic to get answers. She isn't even particularly menacing until she's pushed and their torture forces an evolution to her mutation. She wasn't trying to freeze everyone, it just kinda happened as a big ol F U response. But in other iterations, we see Jean more nervous and unsure of her powers, like she's afraid of them. The backlash and guilt from this may make her more like that version of Jean.

Russell Richardson

Okay George so you seem to have fallen into the same discourse trap that the internet did after release. Jean hurt a lot of people yes. Based on movie logic, she didn’t necessarily kill any or all of them. The car crash victim is pretty bad, but a human could’ve survived that. On rewatch you’ll notice she also kept the people who were shot to only arms and legs. But all that isn’t really even my point. My point is that Jeans sister dying was never MEANT to justify her actions. You seemed stuck on that idea. They weren’t trying to justify her actions. She is a super powered individual who went WAY TOO FAR. That was the point. They weren’t hiding from that fact. Nobody said it’s okay because her sister died. The point was to show the danger of a person with great power and no guidance or help along the way. It was literally the point. Your gripe is missing what they were trying to convey. They wanted us to see what someone who had immense power LIKE SPIDERMAN, could be led to do out of rage. She did those horrible things and now it’s up to her to be redeemed by doing good from now on. And considering she was on a bus to UPSTATE NEWYORK at the end, I’d say she’s heading to a certain mansion where she will learn to use her powers for good and not blind revenge.

REDR58

And the Department of Damage Control couldn’t even let material escape its control during its first appearance in “Homecoming.” Tooms and his people had been stealing and reselling Chitauri tech for at least several years by the time Peter meets him. So at the very least security was lacking.

iFixSAN

If you have the option of having ninja in your movie, you always put ninja in your movie. Did we not learn this from You Only Live Twice, or Wayne’s World?

Context: If you like to prep a bit for Doomsday, rewatch Endgame and maybe recall the lastest Fantastic Four. You can find the additional Endgame scenes on YT, I also had to search them because my viewing in cinema appearently only had 2/3 :| For this, only Thunderbolts would a catchup, more Florence Pugh is doing great work right now. Professor Hulk was not from any DNA mubmo devices, Banner just figured out the right mental state, but he got worse appearently. I also feared they might reverse the heavy consequence from No Way Home, the weight of which could have lasted longer. We are in the phase of acceptence now though, not accepting that loss is real, but that Comics are cyclical and everyone can come back^^. Totally fine that they left the status quo a bit changed though, it's at least bittersweet now. For me, Tom's Peter Parker has been great, he has grown so much and beyond goofs he has become a classic hero. I loved seeing the videogame references and that damage control is a bit of a two-faced company in this.

Christian Da Silva

Please watch Anger Management for more Marissa Tomei sexyness.

p0sthum4n

Sorry to say George, but 5 hours later the no sync version is still like a half second behind. I noticed it when Simone reacted to Punisher pulling out a second gun right before he did. Edit: It seems like it cleared up eventually

p0sthum4n

You guys should watch Severance 👀 Travis Trammell has a big role in it.

Philipp Roensch

I would say Jean Grey in her evil Dark Phoenix phase, can certainly be unredeemable. But at least she is not experimenting on kids and doing it for weapon development? She is in a bad place and without role models. The role of Punisher in this is also ab bit loose, but in parallel to Jeane we see heroes making mistakes if they know no other way. The Hand and Scorption are sadly a bit of a cameo, but they fit Spider-Man in agility, the matchup makes sense.

CouchCheese

That part where George said the movie undercut the serious scene with a joke. What was the joke?

CouchCheese

Yeah. I've said this in another comment, but they would've known that Yelena was the new Black Widow if they had seen Thunderbolts. It's not necessary for the overall plot of BND but it negates those kind of questions. Thunderbolts is also just a lot of fun.

CouchCheese

Jean's body count in this film exists in the vague space of reasonable doubt. You see any dead bodies? No. Was there murderous intent? In some cases. Civilian harm? Definitely. Is that unforgivable? I dunno. The upcoming X-Men film will need to do some heavy lifting to weave some character redemption for her, though it's not like there hasn't been cases where murderous villains were redeemed and loved for it. Case in point: Loki.

Brandon

I've seen Captain Marvel, but not since it was first released. I completely forgot about that plot detail.

Brandon

https://youtu.be/XPHrx7HnEnU?t=2500 Ned definitely gets his memories back. The reason MJ didn't get them back when Peter kissed her is because Jean was in full control at the time. MJ wasn't even "there" really. If you go back and watch No Way Home, Peter and Ned do their handshake one last time before Doctor Strange's spell takes effect. When they do it, there's a spark between the two of them, paving the way for Ned to get his memory back in Brand New Day.

Tay Schumaker

Well as fun and condescending as this gentleman is, he may be right. But I don’t think there is anything definitive either way. If he’s right, good for him. But who knows

Jay Johnson

I just find Zendaya and Tom H. to be such a cute couple. and I think I do have a soft spot for actors who become a real life couple after playing a couple in a film/show. At least when I like both actors. (another example being Rose Leslie and Kitt Harrington who played Ygritte and Jon Snow in GoT)

Elijah

I was glad they moved away from the nanotech suit in this. The way the fabric suit wrinkles makes the CG Spiderman shots look a lot better.

Cinebinge

updated the file one more time. this one was strange, in every edit the file used in the edit is the exact file we record/watch with so the sync to our 1,2,3 should be identical. for some reason this one, when imported, gains an extra 2 seconds of blank at the start that i had to compensate for and could not rely on the actual count down itself.

Stan the Man

Oh well there you go then. I could’ve sworn I watched full unedited movies from you 2 before but I guess not.

Jay

Its really simple guys. Yes Banner off screen worked out a way for both hulk and banner to be in control. I think more specifically Banner found a way to suppress The Hulk personality without losing the abilities. JEAN BROKE THAT. She brute forced her way into his mind and screwed stuff up.

WhiteHawk

Thanks again for looking at this, at the very least the Peter on Frank’s van moment near the beginning of the movie is looking good now. 👍🏻

4drewk

• Sadie Sink as Jean Grey (after debuting in Spider-Man: Brand New Day) • Kit Connor as Scott Summers / Cyclops • Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier / Professor X • Samara Weaving as Emma Frost • Inde Navarrette as Rogue • Maya Boyd as Storm / Ororo Munroe • Adam Driver as Nathaniel Essex / Mr. Sinister

Joe

This is such a good comment.

Jaaahn

you realize hes not a movie script thats pre-written for years in advance right? like one is just a person saying whatever comes to their mind on the spot, the other is a story, a script written by a team of people.

James W.

When MJ had that whole serious scene where she finds out about her connection to SM, and then left, but came back because she needed a ride home. I don't think it was very jokey, especially because of the awkward swing home, but that is how George saw it. While there was a tendency in some of the MCU films, particularly the James Gun stuff, to not let people sit in a serious/sad moment long without a joke, but often it would undermine it. I don't think that has been the case in the Spider-Man films as much, especially that scene but I get how George might take it that way if he is already over that style of writing. Joss Whedon and those aping his dialogue style, which is the foundation of the MCU, sometimes push clever dialogue over maintaining tone/integrity of a scene and that can be tiring.

parker469a

Spiderman was beating down people that Jean was possessing the whole movie so, yes, the people that are possessed need to have something more to them than nothing to be a worthwhile hit squad. Obviously, Jean's nihilism was a focus of the story which she literally said how people are monsters and hideous inside. Did you not listen to a single thing she was saying? She was wrong about that but she clearly didn't put any value on the lives of random pedestrians.

james repka

Hell Tony Stark played a big role in the creation of all of the villains from the stand-alone Iron Man movies, and if you add in the body count associated with Ultron (Tony's own creation) its amazing that he gets the hero designation with no debate at all...

Joe

No George, it's not Jean Grey directing The Hand's fighting techniques. She's just commanding them to fight.

Chad Laurence

I was about midway, went to get something to drink from my fridge, had to skip back a bit, now your "whole" website (mainly the individual video) isn't working. Can't load this movie or Gremlins 2 for example. Idk what's going on.

Cinebinge

hi Chad, can you tell me what device you are using and what browser? as well, what do you mean by whole website isnt working, are you seeing an error code? is it the front page of cinebingers.ca as well? or just each video? is it not loading or does it give errors? and can you tell me which version you are watching, and if you are using the cinebinge player or the basic player. thanks

Anamondaris

It’s also very common for young mutants to hurt people before they understand their power . True, she was damn near evil in this but that was because damage control and Spidey were keeping her from her sister. Charles will whip her into shape and she’ll redeem herself💜

Anamondaris

Okay, here I go about George’s gripe about the Hand. First off we know the Hand from Dardevil and the Defenders. Hence, they’re a great New York based group to have Spider-Man not only stop them but capture them So damage control turned them into part of their security. What George is missing is why they are the ones fighting Spider-Man, which is actually very obvious they have the weapons to fight Spider-Man. Regular security has guns. The Hand is Dodc’s plan to fight Spider-Man with those special weapons and their skill set if he steps out of line. Jean even mentions it during the fight.

WhiteHawk

Looks like the second half of the video the reaction becomes sometimes way after the events and then much closer than normal. I looked up what might cause this. Hopefully something in this will help you figure out the issue. “Why the "2 Seconds of Blank" and Progressive Drift Are Linked • The VFR Interpretation Error: If the software recorded in Variable Frame Rate, the video file doesn't have a steady frame rate (it might dip to 20 fps during heavy scenes and jump to 30 fps in quiet ones). When imported into an editor, the software tries to force this elastic timeline into a strict Constant Frame Rate (e.g., exactly 29.97 or 60 fps). • The Header Shift: To force the file to fit the timeline grid, the editing software often Misinterprets the file's index header. This shifts the video track away from the audio track—creating that mysterious 2 seconds of blank space at the very beginning. • The Cumulative Drift: Because the editor has miscalculated how the frames map to the timecode, fixing the 2-second gap at the start won't fix the rest of the video. The software will continue to misinterpret the timeline spacing, causing the video and audio to pull further and further apart as the edit goes on. The Proven Fixes for the Editor If the editor wants to fix this specific file and prevent it from happening again, they should try these steps: • The Immediate Fix (Transcoding): They need to run the raw recording through a free transcoder like HandBrake or Shutter Encoder. They must explicitly set the video output to Constant Framerate (CFR) (not Peak Framerate) and re-encode it. When they import this newly created file into their editor, the 2-second blank space at the start will disappear, and the progressive drift will stop. • The Long-Term Prevention (OBS Settings): If they are using OBS to record, they should ensure their output format is set to Fragmented MP4 (.mp4) or MKV, and ensure their system isn't overloading. Overloaded hardware is the number one cause of dropped frames, which forces the recording into a buggy Variable Frame Rate state.”

FranciscoGios

The Sony Hulk is more comic accurate, more bigger and scarier. The Marvel Hulk is less stronger and less in height and somehow there is a female controlling him. As for why the Hulk has an inhibitor I don't have the answer for that. Disney's X-Men will be referred to as the Young X-Men movies as there will be Young Avengers movies, I'm more interested in the Young X-Men movies.

Cinebinge

hi WhiteHawk, appreciate the effort but its not any of those things. there was simply a disruption during recording around the mid point, so there was an edit that required a resync. however the second half has been sync'd to specific moments referenced by other users. if you are still finding moments that feel out of sync, please give the time stamp. thanks.

Chad Laurence

My Microsoft Edge on PC. No errors, just was blank black screen with the little teal colored home button on the top left. I could see the pages of videos, but when I would click on Spiderman or Gremlins 2, it would goto the "video" but the page would be blank as I described. However, it seems to working fine now. I left it alone after I left my comment on here. Not sure what that was about lol.

Cinebinge

so initially it stopped working when you skip back a bit, did it become blank when you click back on the time or did it simply wont load and became blank after leaving the video?

BellaBlue

Exactly..I've tried to make this point many times..I hope they actually take it to heart

BellaBlue

I think ur spot on...but I've stopped trying to talk people into this logical explanation..haha

BellaBlue

I loved how they handled this Jean Grey...peeps just can't get over their own stuff tbh..or expectations from the hodge hodge of previous material

BellaBlue

it is one o the Marvel projects I liked way more than the general consensus...the CGI was not well done but I can get past that..I enjoyed the story and Tatiana was amazing..

BellaBlue

yes...the whole Jean discourse is so nonsensical to me..I felt her actions were all realistic and I appreciated that

BellaBlue

yep...it is those types of things I find no need to get hung up on like so many do

BellaBlue

yeah..I didn't think of that as a joke at all either

Zoran24

IMO that was the hands skills

Jon Burrows

They’ve already watched it. I was surprised there were no innie jokes.

MacGuffinStuff

So looking forward to watching this a month from now.

Jayson Phillips

Sarah Grey in the comics was named Beacon right? I forget but she was also a telepath? Great reaction guys 10/10

Chad Laurence

Yeah whatever the problem was, happened when I skipped back and forth trying to get the video to play, but it wouldn't. Then after I closed it and cleared my history etc, I was getting the black screen on the actual two videos with no player menu. I thought maybe you were updating the movie reaction or the website so I just gave it some time and closed everything and came back. Sorry for frustrating you lol.

Jayson Phillips

Also rem in Logan when Proff. X had a seizure how it affected everyone? same thing here. Also they already released the new cast of the MCU X-Men I think the movie comes out in like 2029

dys

Scared the shit out of me as a kids watching the 90s series.

dys

Felt to me like it was there to rub a little more salt in the wound for Peter rather than to diminish the sadness of the scene.

The Maestro

Spider-Man is small potato stuff because he is bound to New York as the friendly neighbor, he doesn't typically do cosmic or global issues in the comics. Serra Grey is a character in the comics but she usually gets powers later and I believe she's often dead.

Mike FromOz

I fully agree with George. I feel that superhero films have become way too cavalier with the lives of regular people. In the film they are there to walk around like npc's, adore and venerate heroes, or be horribly injured by them. Jean had issues, yep, understandable. But how about this guy now? Is he dead? If not, he is definitely seriously injured. Legs broken, pelvis, spine damage, internal bleeding, skull fracture, mental and physical long lasting effects. Who takes care of him? Will he be now relegated to a life of agony and poverty? How does he get redress of what has happened to him? How does anyone? That's the thing I hate most about these genre of movies. It's the handwaving away of responsibility. If you try to hold them accountable, it's obvious that it's a nefarious plot to control superheroes. Cause a tower to collapse after Hulk goes on a rampage, injuring locals and causing panic? It's OK, Tony will buy the building on the spot to make up for it. Now let's go back to the Avengers Tower and yuck it up. Jean had issues she needed the redress of, but the same should apply to her actions. Having her be able to just walk off after this really just reinforces the notion that if you're a superhero, if your powerful, there are no real consequences. I think that's a really bad message to be putting out there. Guy, and all the others Jean messed with, have had their whole life fucked up. Where's their justice?

droodly

Was that Kieth David narrating the spider documentary Peter watches?

Holdenk

Oh my God! Thats Mr. Milchick from Severance. I didnt recognize him

REDR58

Yes it was.

REDR58

Very easy for Jean to get in their brains and command them to "use your kills to kill Spider-man."

REDR58

Agreed and just saw this after making a similar comment above. Yikes, sorry!

REDR58

Inde Navarrette from "Obsession"

REDR58

There is always the humorless DCEU (well, not anymore...)!

REDR58

I don't think they recognized him?

REDR58

Ninjas were a staple of 1980s action movies.

REDR58

Totally agree!

REDR58

Quite young and apparently has no parents or any other family other than her sister. She's approximately P 16-18 years old in this movie.

REDR58

It's Brand New (to)Day!

Brandon

Condescending or not, I think the best point he makes is that most movies aren't trying to be ambiguous or confuse the audience as to what they should be feeling.

REDR58

Tom Holland was about 29 years old during filming, portraying a 22 year-old Peter Parker. Zendaya was 28/29 playing MJ at about 21/22. Jacob Batalon was about 29 playing a 21/22 year old Ned. Sadie Sink was about 24 playing a 16-18 year old Jean Grey. The young woman Peter meets near the elevator in his new building ("Apartment Girl") is played by Taryn Marie Butler in her movie debut. Notice that she appears to be in a relationship with the young man later seen with her (implying some time has passed since she first saw that Peter seemed to have no interest in her) in the elevator after Peter is wearing her shirt. There have been some rumors that this is or was supposed to be Gwen Stacy but who knows... George recognized Michael Mando (who is from Québec) here as Scorpion from Better Call Saul and he also appeared in Spider-Man Homecoming as "Mac Gargan" (before he was formally Scorpion) speaking with Michael Keaton's Vulture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uL-SFKMcpA My biggest gripe with this movie is everyone in it calling that armored vehicle driven by the elderly woman a "tank." In no way is that vehicle a *tank.* At best it is an armored car or an armored personnel carrier (and it is in fact, fictional, and appears to be built on the chassis of an Alvin Saracen APC or similar). The definition of a *tank* is an armored vehicle with have track-laying running gear and a turret mounting a relatively large caliber gun. With the exception of the retired Swedish Stridsvagn 103 (Strv 103) "S-Tank" (a very specialized vehicle for local use in-country), all tanks have turrets with a relatively large cannon. This BND vehicle has a pair of turreted automatic cannons of some sort, maybe 20 to 30mm or so. Just about every modern tank in service anywhere in the world typically has a 105-120 mm main gun and some Russian and Chinese tanks have 125mm cannon. Not all tracked vehicles are tanks, but all tanks have tracks. I will die on this hill and be deep in the cold, cold ground before I recognize wheeled "tanks." Yes, I know most everyday people who don't know anything about military vehicles call colloquially call any large armored vehicle a tank, and many of those same people also seem to call any large naval vessel a "battleship" when, in fact, no *battleship* has served in any Navy since the 1990s. Anyway. Simone, the old lady who handed Peter a towel before he went to meet Yelena was watching Will Smith in Men in Black! The preserved head in the jar appears to be that of a Chitauri.

JC

So the mutant plot isn't about storytelling, it's about setting up future movies. This, for me, is precisely the problem. Jean should not be the villain (Sadie's casting also doesn't help) and the focus is now on set up rather than doing something interesting for the lead character.

Lucas

Jean definitely hurt people, but it is never confirmed she ever killed anybody. People are capable of surviving some insane injuries as well. Plus this is a Marvel Spider-Man movie introducing an X-Men, there's no way they're allowing Jean to start off as a killer.

Will Sofer

I guess they chose not to react to Homecoming? I couldn’t find it on Cinebingers.

StonyD

No, Jean Grey is a murderer and villain. It's right there on screen. And they've already admitted that the original script it was supposed to be the shadow king and they just inserted Jean Grey in there to do the connected universe stuff, so the character was always meant to be a villain, written like a villain, and in the movie Jean Grey is the villain. This is the fault of the writers and the movie. Nothing else.

REDR58

Cookie for the first person who remembers where we have seen “Silvercup” before in a movie reacted to here…

REDR58

Compared to the scene in BND:

Blackbaldrik

I imagine once she stops controlling someone she only retains "basic" knowledge-based information (which driving a tank could fall under), so she isn't suddenly a master ninja after having borrowed their skills. Also, I think you're correct that she can influence people without directly mind-controlling them. The guy at the computer when she just starts to really power up reacts like he's been told not to let Metzger turn it off, and not like he's being fully controlled.

Logan Nelson

From my Google search powers... Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994): Features a famous multi-episode arc where Peter's progressive mutation turns him into a terrifying Man-Spider before scientists and allies help cure him.

Ghostdm

I think that little kid does know that was spiderman coming out of the hospital. I believe that kid is Miles Morales!

Logan Nelson

Pretty sure The Hand was a knod to the Daredevil/Punisher storyline...

Logan Nelson

Also, you guys saw them kill all the Sony Xmen and universe in Deadpool and Wolverine...

fforw

I found "Brand New Day" clearly the weakest of the current Spider-Man run. The story itself was okay, but all the hype and secrecy around "Jean Grey" only to present her as one-trick pony was stupid. Way to set the expectations way too high, my dudes. Even the Punisher was meh. Tonal whiplash from the second season of Punisher and I'm going to assume "One Last Kill" which I haven't seen yet.

REDR58

I think the visual effects for SHe-Hulk were pretty good but part of the problem is that we see a larger than human female who is all green, yet less "monstrous" than Hulk and that just looks... weird. Spoiler: She is even referred to as "Shrek" as an insult.

2026-10-29 20:00 First off, if Jean's powers are confined to a certain number of feet from her physical presence in most of the movie, how did she do that thing where she moved through all those people to race over to possess MJ when her physical body was way back at the previous scene? Even in a cab, she couldn't have kept up. That's a huge plot hole for me. She could never have actually reached or possessed MJ according to the movie's own rules. Anyway. I... didn't really like this. I loved parts of it, but I agree with George on the jarring presentation of Jane Grey. She is two utterly different characters in the two-thirds and then final third of the film. And together, they don't make sense. In the first part, yes, she's trying to get into the place that held her sister, okay. But she's also using, killing, and injuring innocent people in shockingly cruel ways (some of those people absolutely died) and dilly-dallying around so she can simply be sadistic to poor Peter/Spider-man, who she tortures to an unbelievable degree -- why? Because he got in her way? And not only that, she tortures, uses, and deliberately attempts to kill MJ (again, in the cruelest way possible) just to mess with him. Then suddenly she's just a sad kid and we're supposed to pity her? Even when, again, she's using her power to threaten a huge chunk of the innocent NYC population?! Honestly, I thought Ant-Man and the Wasp did a much better and more sympathetic job with this kind of "I'm cruel because I'm in pain" villain. On the plus side, everything with Peter was terrific, and Tom Holland as always acted the hell out of it. The advancement of his Spidey powers was genuinely creepy and interesting, and it was heartbreaking AND heartwarming to see Aunt May again (thank God there was no Happy). I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Frank here -- I'm not a huge Punisher watcher, but he was a great addition. And while it was great to see MJ, I agree with Simone that she was too glammed up here, and it was kind of jarring. I'm guessing it was to show the 4-ish-year passage of time, like, "they're grownups now!" but it did feel out of character to me. She also almost never wore her hair back or up here, and for me, that was so un-MJ-like (and impractical, speaking as a person with long hair -- sometimes you just want it out of your face, darn it). So I thought this was okay but had serious writing issues. But it was nice to see Sadie Sink again (although I laughed out loud at the slo-mo shot of her running at the camera, because it was seriously exactly like the shot of her running from Vecna in Season 4 of Stranger Things).

Even in a cab, she couldn't have kept up. That's a huge plot hole for me. She could never have actually reached or possessed MJ according to the movie's own rules. (EDITED TO NOTE: I get how it worked now. It still feels iffy to me but I get it.) Anyway. I... didn't really like this.

Naomi Watts is the voice of "E.V."

Y'know, She-Hulk gets a bad rap, but it was an incredibly fun show, with great acting, smart scripts, and a sense of humor. It was the lighter side of Marvel, it didn't take itself too seriously, and I enjoyed the heck out of it. Tatiana Maslany was fantastic as always, and the guest appearances were equally wonderful. And there were some moments that still make me laugh out loud just thinking of them (Walk of Shame -- IYKYK). I just think there's at least a little bit of misogyny in the fandom about how much She-Hulk actually sucked. Because it didn't.

I think he is a *bit* too young as his Uncle, Arron Davis, (played by Donald Glover in Spider-Man: Homecoming) speaks with him on a phone in a deleted scene from Homecoming roughly 6 years earlier when Peter was about 16 during the events in that movie. It doesn't sound like Davis is speaking to a child who would be 6 years younger than that boy seen outside of the hospital, then again, it's not clear if this deleted scene is canon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2JK94pbx8c

I think this is a very optimistic take, Russell, but it also feels like you're twisting events in order to make Jean seem less evil, and the fact is, she mowed down and injured a ton of innocents in the first two-thirds, some of whom ABSOLUTELY died. Not to mention torturing Spider-man (a hero) and worse -- sadistically torturing, using, and then attempting to kill MJ just to mess with him. That's unforgivable. He was BARELY able to save MJ there. And then in the final third, she's once again using and abusing masses of people just because she's in pain, because she can, and because they mean nothing to her -- she wants everyone else to hurt too. What Jean Grey does in this film is utterly indefensible. I'm sorry she lost her sister, but how many people here lost loved ones through her actions?! The movie took it too far for me, and I honestly didn't give a crap about her in the end. Peter was way nicer than I would have been. But that's why he's a hero.

I think Jean can be redeemed -- of course she can, just like all the others who turned from the dark side. But I don't have to like or forgive her for what she does here. For me, the movie just took it jarringly too, too far, to where I didn't care about Jean at all by the end. What she did to masses of innocent people, her torture of Peter, and what she tried to do to MJ -- using and then attempting to kill her just to get back at Peter -- was ridiculously sadistic. For me, the movie took it to a point that was unnecessary. Look, I'm sorry her sister was kidnapped and murdered, but she used that fact to treat other people's lives as utterly expendable to her goal, and that's narcissism on a scale that isn't forgivable for me.

The inconsistency of the Hulk's ability to control his powers in the MCU always bugs me. In Avengers he learns to control it, in Age of Ultron he's sort of managing it (although it didn't bother me that Wanda could manipulate him further), then in Ragnarok Bruce has zero control or memory of him, then in Endgame he's combo Hulk (sorry, I don't know what he's called), which I hated, and was so glad this brought him back to a more layered and complex version of Bruce still navigating his Hulk transformations.

When it was on, I felt like I liked it more than anyone I was talking to online. It's been nice to see it get some love. 🙂

How did y’all not recognize Milchick from Severance?? He was so iconic!

ShittyShittyGameGang

There's a short film with Chandler Riggs called Man-Spider, it was fun.

Yolana isn't calling Spiderman small potatoes, she does know he fought Thanos. No one has forgotten the Spiderman, just Peter Parker. What she's saying is since Spiderman turned down being an Avenger in favor of being the friendly neighborhood Spiderman, he deals with small (neighborhood) potatoes and the Avengers deal with large (worldly/universal) potatoes.

Screenwriter Erik Sommers stated that Jean is "technically not responsible for any deaths" during her rampage in New York. Co-writer Chris McKenna explained that Jean needed to appear dangerous and destructive early on to make her redemption and future role as a hero believable.

Angela D. Mitchell

For me, torturing Spidey, then smiling while she tried to kill MJ (and upping the cruelty by having her "awaken" mid-fall) was a bridge too far. It just didn't work for me, especially added to the huge numbers of innocent people traumatized by Jean. I just didn't care about her at all by the end.

Ricardo Alanis

I also recommend Thunderbolts*. By far one of my favorite MCU movies of recent years.

Deborah Haney

Really wish you'd both seen Thunderbolts* before this. Ideally Black Widow and Thunderbolts*, but you'd still get the broad strokes of Yelena as a character from just Thunderbolts*. I still recommend it.

What Damage Control does in this film is utterly indefensible. Jean can be a villain in this movie, a victim, and a potential ally for future films, all at once. Nuance can be difficult to grasp, especially if you have limited experience with losing your only loved ones, but consider the other characters in this same universe. Frank and his tragic backstory doesn't GAF about collateral damage - he's firing projectile explosives on the streets on NYC in this very movie. Pietro and Wanda, orphaned by Stark weapons at a young age, were originally fighting against the Avengers, who knows how many people they killed for Hydra before switching sides? Loki appears as a villain in most of the MCU and kills many people, directly and indirectly, but almost always intentionally, and often possessed others, with only his inferiority complex to justify most of it, and he STILL got a redemption arc. And Jean is younger than any of them, possibly still a child, raised captive in psychiatric hospitals until recently, and then the only person she loves, the only person who loves her is tortured to death. In a universe with these other characters finding redemption, Jean is not irredeemable.

Nicky M.

First I would like to point the out is no body no death. So no, we don't know if the guy that was hit by the car actually died. Next I would to point out that Jean knows everything about a person when she jumps. I think that guy was a bad person . This was my justification for a long time. Now though im thinking we should see her as a villain. She was radicalized she believed everybody was a monster in some fashion. Knowing she's the villain isn't the point. Peter breaking through to her is the point. Peter believing she could and should be saved is the point.

Russell Richardson

Exactly Deborah! There’s no room for nuance with some of these commentators🤣

I'll second the The "Thunderbolts" But, IMO, The Flash was better.

Most likely not gonna happen but I've seen people theorizing that Ned accidentally subconsciously turned their hand shake into a hand formation for a spell to return his memories and that's the real reason they did the handshake before the spell in No Way Home. Like I said probably not but something neat to ponder.

gfixler

Yeah, you can know how to drive a tank and force the woman to drive it, but knowing how to do Hand-style fighting, in groups, is a wholly different thing. If anything, jumping into people's brains let her learn things about them quickly, but all that group fighting stuff did not at all seem like something she could learn immediately, and get standard city folk to do. The Hand were the only ones she had fight like that. I just read it your way, that she was saying "attack him", and they were doing it their way, just like how she couldn't make just anyone "Hulk out."

Doug S.

I think you can chalk quite a bit of the collateral damage caused by Jean during her search for Sara up to the recklessness of a young person. It would have taken me out of it if a rage filled teenager (I don't know how old we're saying that Jean is for this) was exceptionally mindful of what they were doing, this makes much more sense from a character standpoint in this narrative. Also, can't believe there was no mention of Milkshake lol, I thought he was great again.

By Grapthar's Hammer, what a member!

They explained in the park scene with her sister that the distance rule is only for each jump. To jump from her own body it has to be someone within 33(or whatever it was) feet. Then they can jump to anyone 32 feet from THAT person. Then 33 feet from the next person. But if there is no one else near the person she's in then she can only leave them and return to her own body

dairyslime

George keeps talking about all the fucked up stuff Jean Grey did in this movie while still chilling with and laughing at Frank...

ruinfox

A moment that feels REALLY out of sync, when banner turns full hulk and Frank being controlled by Jean says "good luck" yallls reactions are like 2-3 seconds late. 1:32:22

The Punisher show is way better than the film. Explains a lot about this Punisher
