Shreddy

They shot up the jungle because they trusted that Mac wouldn't open fire without a good reason, he was an elite soldier like all of them. They committed to his decision. It was their best shot at hitting it anyway (and actually they did). Plus they lost 2 friends, they wouldn't think calmly if they get a shot at payback. As for the Billy drinking from the cut plant thing... even when they had water canteens, they would try to save it and drink whatever is available. Save the canteen for last

just as George said he needed a drink, I opened my second Bundy and Coke. Cheers Cinners

Try and read the original book as well, the Lyons of Tsavo. They are now displayed in New York I think.

This was filmed near the Mexican tourism destination Puerto Vallarta. You can actually take a tour of some of the filming locations. If you like the unnecessary flexing, I will once again recommend the Indian film RRR (if I can find a segway to though this movie in I will).

Cory Garron

Just look at baby face George!

Any time I watch this movie, I can't help thinking of my dad's comment during the scene where they're all shooting up the jungle. Once all the shooting was done, he goes, "This deforestation has been brought to you by 'MERICA!" It's a permanent association in my brain now.

Ironclad Nomad

You two really should watch The Hunt for Red October. Another absolutely fantastic McTiernan movie, but definitely more on the subtle side.

Since having a smallish part in Predator, Shane Black (Rick in the movie) has become quite an accomplished screen writer and director, check out his Wiki page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shane_Black PS: As far as another Arnold movie worth watching, "Running Man" is my personal favourite, absolute cheese, but so many memorable quotes, I love it!

Travis

I will recommend Commando (1985) with Schwarzenegger, ridiculous action/thriller movie. They also make Aliens vs Predator movies.

Einherj

Commando (1985) and The Running Man (1987) would be just that Schwarzenegger 80s action cheese you were talking about. Last Action Hero (1993) and True Lies (1994) are fun 90s Arnie action flicks.

Some general trivia: The opening space scene was added by the studio without the directors knowledge. The music was done by Alan Silvestri who also did Back to the Future (music style is very similar). Even though he has no involvement making the movie, it was James Cameron's suggestion to the director to give the creature mandibles. Shane Black (one of the disposable soldiers) went on to create and write the first two Lethal Weapon movies, write and/or direct other movies including Iron Man 3 and even the latest Predator sequel.

Simone should try to Google the term: "steampunk keyboard" or "steampunk computer". Its people modding their modern equipment, so it looks like something from the year 1800 or so.

It's been argued that Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 80ies and 90ies was his actually own genre. He didn't make action movies , or comedies, or scifi movies, he made Ahnold movies. What's beyond debate though is the man is a cinematic treasure trove for reactors. My personal favorite movie of his is Conan the Barbarian narrowly edging out even the first Terminator movie (yes, yes, i know everybody worships Judgement Day as the high point of the Terminator franchise, but you are all wrong. Because i said so), and The Predator. The film has such an epic set up, and Milius for all his transgressions against the character as created by Howard knew exactly how to get an iconic performance out of his male lead despite Ahnolds limitations as an actor. It also has what is arguably one of if not the greatest musical score not composed by Jon Williams ever written. Basil Poledouris just knocked it out of the park with that one.

There's a fan theory that the jungle Dutch and his team are getting hunted in by the Predator is situated in Valverde, the same fictional country that Commando is set in.

E.P.B.F.

Predator 2! It doesn't have Ahnold in it and is very different thematically, but still very good in its own right. We also learn a lot about the background of the Predator species and get some easter eggs that hint that it's set in the same universe as the Alien(s) movies.

Twiska Brand

It wasn't a tiger, and it was two lions. And it was in the Tsavo region of Kenya in Africa, not India. You guys should watch the Ghost and The Darkness. The movie is about that story.

E.P.B.F.

Starring Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer if i recall correctly. Hmmm... Val Kilmer... you haven't done Tombstone yet, have you?

Twiska Brand

You should watch Commando. It's my mum's favourite movie.

Kristopher Chavez

Calling it now, by this time next year Simone will be making up words at the intro.

MrCAL

In regards to fun Schwarzenegger movies to watch I'd certainly echo what others have said here. COMMANDO for sure is another one of those fun cheesy 80's action movies you were talking about. TRUE LIES (directed by James Cameron) is also a great choice and as for LAST ACTION HERO, definitely watch that after you've seen a few more Schwarzenegger action flicks to really benefit from it's self referential approach. That would also set you up nicely into his more comedic roles in movies like TWINS and KINDERGARTEN COP.

Kristopher Chavez

About the "shooting at nothing": That is a thing that special forces will do. Typically they are after humans, so they'll unload on an area, knowing the enemy won't be able to escape, due to the fact that bullets run faster than humans.

Theoshin

now that you have seen Terminator and Predator I think its about time Kindergarten Cop makes it to the list :P

As to George's question about face camo, nope, the stripes are bullshit. Very Hollywood, totally useless in practice, actually defeats the purpose of camouflage, the point of which is to break up your outline. As far as Billy's decision to face the Predator, I always assumed it was a Native American thing, the character seems implied to be Native, and the actor who played Billy, Sonny Landham, was actually Indigenous. It's a last stand, I won't run anymore kind of thing, die like a warrior. I also think it's telling that the Predator takes his skull instead of his skin, I think Billy represented a more worthy trophy, the Predator respected his courage. But I've seen more of the "Yautja" universe from comics and other movies and basically they are a warrior culture who prize courage and skill above all else, they're brutal but they do have a code. Damn I wish those Alien Vs Predator movies hadn't been so disappointing, I had the original Dark Horse comics (I left them at my mom's house along with the rest of my collection when I joined the Army, have not found them, pretty sure her POS ex boyfriend sold them), I don't think that I'd ever sell them if I had them (man I really hope I find them, I had some good ones, sentimental value wise anyway) but I wish they had gone with the story from the comics instead of what they did, would've been awesome. A last surviving predator joins forces with a Ripley type human character against a swarm of xenomorphs, they do that essentially but the execution was sloppy in my humble opinion.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Oh yeah, not sure if anyone else mentioned this but yeah, the opening scene with the space ship was added at the studio's insistence, as is typical they didn't trust the audience to figure it out.

Christopher Greenley

Predator 2 with Danny Glover, Gary Busey, and Bill Paxton. Is a good sequel. You should check it out!😎

Christopher Greenley

Speaking of movies. Ridley Scotts dark fairy tale. Legend The Directors Cut. With Tom Cruise, Mia Sara, and Tim Curry. Or, a Western. Open Range with Kevin Costner, Robert Duval, and Annette Being. Is two great movies to put on your list. Or, even a great drama. Stand By Me with Morgan Freeman is very good movie.

Christopher Greenley

Hope I'm not overdoing the suggestions lol. Anyway I really appreciate what you two are dong. Keep up the good work. Until the next film.😎

Michael_AP

Kindergarten Cop.... now that's the movie where Arnold stands no chance of overcoming the horrible monsters ;)

Raymond DeGraw

Great reaction... The Predator's shoulder cannon hit Dutch's (Arnold's) gun and destroyed it, so that is why he only had a cut on his arm.

Githerax

During the first fight, Simone: "Maybe they run out of ammo" - it's an 80's movie, you *never* run out of ammo.

jack ass

wait til they find out predator and aliens are in the same universe :)

Jon

just wanted to let you guys know there is a movie like you were talking about, set in the late 1800s in Africa and its about two man eating lions. its called The Ghost and the Darkness. its a really good movie and its based on a true story,
