This could actually be my favorite FULL reaction with y'all. So much fun and so entertaining. Great film - #8 on my top 100 and my highest rated comedy.

Great choice, George, for soundtrack. It's also just another one of those perfect, tiny details in the film... When the Dude's listening to the cassette of the bowling tournament, and Maude's thug punches him, the B-side of the cassette is labelled "Bob". And it's Bob Dylan's "Man in Me" which is playing in the dream sequence (as well as the opening titles), and when he wakes up.

They say most of the people you ever meet are in the middle of a decades long conversation with someone who isn't there. This movie I think illustrates that better than any other work of fiction. PS. Have you noticed Walter thinks he's a genius military strategist whose strategies always depend on deciding the other guys are "fucking amateurs" and he has already outmanouvered them? PPS. Have you noticed we never see the Dude bowl?

pinkdino99

My fave line is still "I'm sorry... I was not paying attention."

Nice marmot. lol. It’s actually a ferret, but the word marmot is funnier. I think they were going to use a marmot, but it was too big so they switched to a ferret. Edit: Holy marmot, have you guys never actually heard of this?? I’m just starting the reaction. Oh man.

Eik104

A little break from the invasion is quite welcome :)

David Noone

A big part of the reason Buscemi's character is told to shut up throughout the movie is because his previous character in a Coen bros film (Fargo, which is brilliant) would talk incessantly

JLee

Yes MORE Cohen bros!

JLee

I had never made that connection. That's hilarious.

Eik104

Great reaction :) Glad you liked it. AM I RIGHT?! 😂

David Crabtree

I've never been a Cohen Bros fan, or understood the appeal of this movie. But that's the beauty of all films being subjective, there's something for everyone!

My top 5 favorate Coen Bros movies, I hope you react to at some point: “O’ Brother Where Art Thou” (2000 comedy) “No Country For Old Men” (2007 crime/drama) “Miller’s Crossing” (1990 gangster) “Fargo” (1996 crime/drama) “True Grit” (2010 western) You can’t go wrong with ANY Coen Bros movie though, IMO.

Whatever comes at you in life, just remember... The Dude Abides :D

Fargo is definitely my favorite Coen Bros. It has Frances McDormand in her most iconic role. No Country for Old Men is another. But yeah everything they done, even their weaker films have something unique and entertaining about them.

For Simone because she was crushing a bit on Sam Elliot (the cowboy). This is a made for TV movie from 1987 called The Quick and the Dead with him in it. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPFrBjp7OM0 Also you two should eventually get around to reacting to Tombstone which he is in.

Aw man, I love this movie and have yet to get even a little tired of it! Too many quotes and etc to even list. I'm glad you guys liked it and see now why so many people (not everyone I understand, but it's cool) really adore the Coen brothers' films. This, O Brother Where Art Thou, Raising Arizona, are all bonkers in their own way, fun from start to finish. And their more dramatic films are amazing too, Blood Simple, Fargo (love this one, Francis McDormand earned that Oscar), No Country For Old Men, freaking phenomenal story tellers. Also, I highly recommend "Fargo" the series, but only AFTER you've seen more of their movies. The first two seasons at least are awesome, I like all four actually, it's an anthology type show. I say AFTER because there are a lot of call backs to other Coen films, including a small nod to the Big Lebowski with the soundtrack, obviously the movie Fargo, but if you know Coens well you catch a lot of them.

MacGuffinStuff

Tombstone, or How the Mustache Won the West, no but seriously that is a bad ass movie and Sam Elliott is perfect in that role. I'm sure it's on their list already.

Green Nolan

Cohen brothers movies you'd like No country for old men (best picture Oscar winner) O brother where art though And my personal favorite.. . FARGO, FARGO FARGO!!! I would suggest Fargo first... But it's your call

Keith Wood

New here, but if you guys don't have it backlogged, I'd suggest Napoleon Dynamite. Not Cohen brothers brilliant/odd, but odd and brilliant in it's own way.

It was particularly delightful for me to hear George say he needed to get the OST for this movie right as the song "Just Dropped In" began playing. Flash back to 1998. I'm a few years into college. No one had a TV back then, so I think I saw the trailer for this in a theater, and the tune and lyrics just stuck. Cut to me searching the very fledgling internet, many years pre-google - I think it was crawlers like HotBot and AltaVista maybe back then? Not only was search limited, but info just wasn't even up yet. The internet was not common, so it wasn't having all of Earth's data dumped into it by everyone from all walks of life, so I could not find this thing anywhere. Days (weeks?) later, I ended up in a mall, and passed a music store (remember those? I think it was Sam Goody). I suddenly remembered my quest, and went in to find the OST for the movie, which was currently in theaters, but saw nothing that looked familiar. I don't know what was going on, because checking now, it's totally on there. Anyway, that was a fail. Then one night, my girlfriend and I were laying around, listening to the radio, which I think was the one time we ever did that, and they had someone in the studio who could identify songs. I had the same experience Al had on Married with Children - the person knew all the songs people sang over the phone, except mine. I think I was probably 2-3 weeks into occasionally trying to find this info, when I had the idea to read the official script, which, randomly, was up on the internet. I scanned and scanned, and finally found it - "Just Dropped In" by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. I said "Kenny Rogers!?" That's happened 2 times since, where I've liked a song, and later found out who sang it, and said "Kenny Rogers!?" I guess I like Kenny Rogers. Kids born into a world with a fully-functioning internet have no idea how hard it was to learn about things back then. We just shrugged and said "Oh well" and gave up on everything all the time. Information just flew past, never to be experienced again.

Yeah you should have smoked a bowl before the movie…this is a total stoner film lmao. Also, you definitely need to watch more Cohen brothers films, they have many great ones. I know you’ll probably take it to a vote but I recommend Fargo next. Very much a comedy in its own way but a serious plot. And there’s an interesting connection between that film and this one because in Fargo Steve Buscemi’s character talks constantly, while in this one he’s constantly told to shut up. But if not Fargo, go No Country For Old Men. It’s a crime, thriller, western and it’s superb. You’ll enjoy both.

Jim Johnson

Please do Fargo sometime! It’s one of my favorites and is also the Coens

Brian Harris

Coen Brothers are the second best living American filmmakers. Their ratio is remarkable. Eighteen films, eight of which (Raising Arizona, Fargo, Barton Fink, A Serious Man, No Country For Old Men, Inside Llewyn Davis, O Brother Where Art Thou, and this one) are straight-up masterpieces, only two really bad ones (Intolerable Cruelty and The Ladykillers). They are the most articulate cinematic philosophers working now. All of their films are really ABOUT something, usually the human condition in some sense, but they never beat you over the head with it. I’m envious you’ve got all those great films ahead of you. Fargo next!

The big lebowski is by far my favorite spin on the film noir genre.
