My first grade teacher invited his class to his wedding. I thought it was cool. He was my favorite teacher.

Great reaction! I disagree with George that this is a "simple" film, however -- I think the genius of the film is that it seems simple, but it's just as complex as any movie about relationships. Roger Ebert was a great admirer of the film and talked about its genius for unforced lightness that is so much harder to accomplish than it looks. I also think Heckerling's adaptation of "Emma" to 20th century affluent teenagers a century-plus later is just brilliant, and that everyone was cast perfectly. The language in this has its own style and syntax, and it perfectly captures a specific era. I still love it, all these years later. Meanwhile, as others noted, Pippi Longstocking was the heroine of children's books from the 60s and 70s, by Astrid Lindgren. Pippi is basically a superhero who lives by herself in this sort of enchanted world, she has red hair and two pigtails that stick out, and she is the strongest little girl in the world (strong enough to pick up a horse). There were later some seriously bonkers movie adaptations too -- I absolutely loved the books.

Proud to say I went through the whole thing :) Not a bad movie and a lot of funny moments. Also it reminded me I had a big crush on Alicia Silverstone as a kid. Probably everyone did though

It’s a great movie that subverts expectations about teen girls. They weren’t all that clueless, made good grades in school, and genuinely cared about others (although in a privileged and sometimes clueless way). Cher and Dionne (named after Dionne Warwick, not Celine Dion) are still fashion icons to this day!

I've seen her mentioned in various movies and TV shows, yet few non-Scandinavian people seems to know where she's from; Pippi Longstocking isn't (originally) an animated character, but the main character of a series of Swedish children's book by renowned author Astrid Lindgren. Nearly all the different main characters in all of her various children's books (of which there are many) could pretty much be considered omnipresent patron saints of Swedish society; most Swedes are basically raised on those stories and knows them all by heart. There's also a number of movies based on her books, one of which is the internationally produced 1987 fantasy film "Mio in the Land of Faraway", starring amongst others Christopher Lee and Christian Bale!

I guess a Pauly Shore movie should get added to a poll list. I recommend Biodome.

Astrid Lindgren and her creations are also very present in Germany. Not to the cultural bedrock degree as it is in Sweden, but you'd be hard pressed to find a German pre- or elementary school kid who doesn't know some if not all of her books (and their various adaptations to other media).

I seen this a few times - not a great movie, but I watch it every time too - lol

"She's gonna fall in love with her brother isn't she?" I mean...if your brother is Paul Rudd who could blame you?

If you haven't seen it yet I highly recommend Drop Dead Gorgeous starring Kirsten Dunst, one of the best comedies of the 90s
