Late to the party but wanted to add to this answer anyway: No normal nuke could detonate when you trigger an explosion next to it. It needs to reach critical mass to be able to initiate the chain reaction that results in the enormous energy output that creates the blast. The nuclear material is seperated within the mechanism to make unwanted reactions impossible. If you'd blast the whole thing with outside explosions, you wouldn't compress it correctly and it couldn't trigger. The detonation must be precise. And the last aspect is a shell that surrounds the mechanism that is needed to stop the reaction from ending a few microseconds after the start. A detonaion from outside would destroy that shell and even if for some insane coincidence the reaction would start, it would end before anything happens. But... what we would see is radiation. It would be a dirty mess

Luetin

Hell yes. Letss goooo.

JediLounger

Well I know what I am doing for the next two hours. In regards to Futurama, this episode is sponsored by *redacted*.

Michael Lynch

Oh man I'm excited for this one! Love some good ol Arnold.

Githerax

Simone, that music you mentioned at the start is 'Mission Impossible' (watch the first, and maybe 'Rogue Nation' later), *which you and George should watch* when you need another action movie. Watch out for Tom Cruise, though, he *will* come after you. Also Simone, 'right here in River City' is from 'The Music Man'. If you want, I can sing the entire train song. Yeah? Ok here it goes...oh, you don't have time right now? Ok maybe later.

True Lies is a remake of a French movie (La totale!), so the original script is in reference to that. And as for non-villianess characters with an eye patch: Nick Fury.

Stephen Zepp

Is anyone finding a service to watch the movie from? I tried HBOMax, Prime, Hulu, no dice

Markus H

Amazon Prime Video UK has it. If you don't live in the UK you can use a VPN (most VPNs have one week free trials, if you don't want to buy one, and Amazon Prime UK has a 30-day free trial also.)

JediLounger

Just finished the movie, I’m glad you guys enjoyed it. Now do The Abyss (1989) (extended just under 3 hour cut), more James Cameron. And The Game (1997) with Michael Douglas, directed by David Fincher.

Kevin

Good man with an Eyepatch? If you have not already, watch "Escape from New York" It did also inspire Solid Snakes appearence

Githerax

Also, good guys with eye patches: Nick Fury - The Man Snake Plissken - 'Escape from New York', Kurt Russell Odin - Anthony Hopkins Thor - 'Avengers: Infinity War', what's-his-name

Mario

Love this reaction.....you two had so much fun......

To answer your question about bullets shot into the sky: they fall down and may kill people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celebratory_gunfire They say in the movie that the warhead has a plutonium trigger, so it probably uses what they call a "plutonium pit". This means that it would be an implosion type of nuclear weapon, where there is a plutonium core surrounded by conventional explosives that when triggered compress the core causing nuclear fission. Not sure what the conventional explosives would be, but most military grade explosives don't detonate from bullet impacts, they need a fuze or an explosion. The explosives in the warhead would be triggered with small electric fuzes. I think it would be very unlikely that bullets would start the detonation chain. Not sure about an air-to-ground missile, but I think the detonation of the fuzes has to be very precisely simultaneous for the implosion to occur properly, so I would say unlikely.

It was so much fun to watch this with you guys. I think this is the second best James Cameron movie. My top 3 is Terminator 1, this and Titanic. You asked about the bad guys shooting up. There is a great Mythbusters episode about that subject. I think their tests showed that a bullet coming straight down can't kill but it can if it drops in an angle.

Elvenwitch

That was a Harrier Jump Jet that Harry flies in the movie. They use a system called VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing to do that maneuver. They try not to hover for a long time as it burns absolute tons of fuel. There is a hilarious bit of trivia about the jet and a lawsuit against Pepsi. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_v._Pepsico,_Inc.

BND

the Harrier jet is a real thing, it can take off vertically but I don't think it can hover or maneuver like it did in the movie.

Alan Kobb

Not able to stream it anywhere! I really like you guys, but this is the second time you've put up a movie that I could not watch along. (Sin City) Please let us know where to find the movie!

Logan Kerlee

I'll be watching this once my internet is working. Stoked!

Marko T.

I usually check Justwatch.com to see where movies are available. This might not be available to stream everywhere. There isn't even an official Blu-Ray release of this. Only dvd.

King_Panarisi

The jet is a Harrier Jet originally from the british and takes off vertically. Planes that can take off vertically are known as VTOL aircraft. It's a crazy piece of technology from the late 60's. Very useful for any NAVY because they can just land and take off vertically on aircraft carriers and don't need a full runway.

David Murray

Is this movie banned from streaming or something? Can't find it anywhere.

Cinebinge

hey David :) it's on prime video with starz. bit of a hassle but I thought it was worth it ^-^

Bullet Question: Any bullet or projectile thrown or shot will follow a parabolic arc, it will go up until gravity cancels out its velocity and then it will go down. In Newtonian mechanics gravity is a constant force that the bullet will experience as acceleration, this will eventually overcome the velocity of the bullet which will begin accelerating downwards at a constant rate, that is at least until the force of the air resistance equals the force of gravity, at that point the bullet has reached terminal velocity and will no longer accelerate. And yes, the force of a bullet at terminal velocity is enough to kill you if it hits you. Fun physics fact: If you shoot a bullet straight ahead parallel to the ground, and drop another bullet at the same time, both bullets will hit the ground at exactly the same time. Fun physics fact 2: If the bullets acceleration is fast enough (very, very fast), then the path of the parabolic arc that the bullet will follow, will be the same as the curvature of the earth, and that is what we call orbit (basically constantly falling around the earth).

gobmob2000

"Any bullet or projectile thrown or shot will follow a parabolic arc" assuming no other forces act upon the bullet.

REDR58

I think all the Mission Impossible movies save the second one are well worth a watch.

gobmob2000

Nuke Question: A nuclear bombs follows a specific detonation sequence so is very unlikely to go off from being shot at, it would most likely just damage the nuke. Fun Fact: In 1950, an american bomber carrying a nuclear bomb crash landed just of the coast of Quebec, the bomb was never found and may go of any minute. Just to help you have sound sleep at night ;) Joking of course, there really is a lost bomb however it most likely does not work, the "official" report says that the bomb does not contain the Plutonium core necessary for a nuclear detonation (although the US could just be saying that to put Canadians at ease). But even if it was a working bomb, it would be very unlikely to go off.

gobmob2000

Plane Question: That is a Harrier Jump Jet, a British designed plane which was used by the royal navy but also sold to the US marines. It was the first ever VTOL (Vertical Take Off And Landing) plane in history and it can really hover (although it needs a lot of fuel when hovering). The British successfully used the sea harrier variant in the Falklands war against the Argentinians, even though the Harriers where outnumbered 6 to 1.

Jarrod Mitchell

Has ANYONE in the US been able to stream this? Can we get a link? George said Amazon w/Starz, but I can't find it there or anywhere else, with or without a VPN.

Tim Boxall

The Harrier jump jet - amazing bit of tech, and one of the very few reasons (these days) I'm proud to be British. Very few.

Tim Boxall

It's become force of habit for me to listen out for Simone saying "Jeepers!" in all videos. I don't know if this is a Canadian thing but it's one of the cutest things I've heard in a long time , and always makes me chuckle. There it was, right toward the end!

Githerax

Until Simone, I hadn't heard 'jeepers' by anyone other than Louis Armstrong.

Gary Fixler

It's the Florida Keys - been there. A quay is a structure built next to, or sticking out into the water for use in loading and unloading boats.

jim Howe

No way! Big fan, if its a real account. I'm currently binging a Skylines playthrough atm.

Torsten Maekler

When those Harrier-Jets landed vertically, non of you both reacted to it. But when they took off vertically, all the questionmarks popped up. "That real?" Those Harriers are vertical take off and landing planes - so that part is real. The part alongside the construction plane goes more into the comical part of this film, being totally over the top ;-) The Story itself is a remake of a french movie called "La Totale!", which already has a comedic undertone. But for this version mostly the other writers apparently were hired to add comical parts to it; though Cameron didn't use much of them. Looking at how much comedy is in this, I wonder how that non taken parts do look like... . Meaning, I think more comedy would have hurt this movie. PS: Don't go for the Schwarzenegger comedies... I don't think they are worth the time... .

Haye Zeus

I was able to stream it. I’m not going to say how tho. Mwahaha.

Githerax

mwahaha.com? Disclaimer: that was a joke. Do not go to mwahaha.com in case some troll messes with it.

Alan Kobb

George is in Canada, so you need to think like a Canadian, dontcha know. You need to VPN to Canada and use Amazon.ca, then you can find it on Amazon w/Starz, but I haven't tried it yet.

REDR58

Unfortunately, the abyss is almost as difficult to find as True Lies is. It's not streaming anywhere in the US as far as I know and there are no Blu-ray copies.

Marko T.

CBS is making a True Lies tv series. Cameron is one of the producers but I don't think its connected to this movie. It has new cast. I recommend The 6th Day (2000). It a great scifi action movie starring Arnold.

AgentFalcon

Great reaction. I hadn't watched this in like 15 years. Was more fun than I remembered. If you want more fun Arnie, I'd highly recommend Last Action Hero. For even more fun Jamie Lee Curtis in A Fish Called Wanda with John Cleese is fantastic.

JarHead0351

Great movie but couldn't find a copy to watch along with you both but have seen it many times. Not sure if anyone told you - yes harrier jets are able to take off on a vertical, they are in the Marine Corp and British Air Core. C-4 needs a blasting cap, or another smaller blast to set it off, so if shot on the battlefield you don't blow up while carrying it.
