Regarding Watergate: You can see Woodward and Bernstein beaten up by Rorschach in the intro. Loved the reaction! One of my favorite movies even tho it's very "Snyder" at many points, Nite Owl 1 death scene is only in the DC and is one of the best scenes.

Watchmen was originally just the standalone story. There have been prequel written but not from the original creators. As far as I know the TV series is all original material.

I'm glad you did V and this :) This was a one shot, there's no expanded universe but there is a fairly recent sequel in the form of a TV show.

I still use that line, “I'm not locked in here with you, You are locked in here with me!” It’s such an iconic line that illuminates Rorschach’s whole psychology. From Kelly Leak in Bad News Bears to Rorschach, it’s every actor’s dream to have two iconic characters in their careers.

Now you guys should watch the Watchmen TV series. It is only one season and VERY VERY good

Adam Wetstein

I prefer the theatrical cut but im in the minority

Chris

Weirdly this is what got me into Watchmen, it blew me away. Then I went back and read the graphic novel, watched the film and ended up with even more respect for the show! So good.

Patrick Evans

So, I recommend you read the Graphic Novel if you watch the show because it is a sequel to the comic rather than the movie. There is also a 7 issue prequel run called Before Watchmen. They also did Doomsday Clock which ties it into the mainstream DC comics.

I have no idea how recommendations work for you guys but I would absolutely love to see you react to Arrival (2016)

Zeke

If you feel like taking a break from all the dark, heavy topics, Jackie Earle Haley is in a 1979 coming of age movie called Breaking Away. It's a really good story that won an Oscar for original screenplay. It also stars Dennis Quaid and Daniel Stern (Home Alone, City Slickers)

Saifu

Definitely watch HBO's Watchmen tv series after this. It's sooo damn good.

Torstein Skurve

I love how you guys keep saying "Zack Schneider"😅

Githerax

There are people who are snide, and then there's Zack Snyder.

AppliedJest

Snyder didn’t use Disturbed’s cover of “the sound of silence” because that cover was made 6 years after this film… just figured I’d clear that up 🙃 (Plus, using a cover song would be uncharacteristically indirect for Snyder; he’s never that subtle)

The best review/deconstruction I have seen of Snyder's Watchmen appears in part III of Movie Bob's "Batman V Superman: Really That Bad" review, around 18 minutes in. https://youtu.be/uuwxDLdXALc?t=1029 The graphic novel was a vicious satire of superhero tropes, and it used a very specific (and extremely niche) group of superheroes as its inspiration. Watchmen was Snyder's first exploration at any depth of the comic book genre. Snyder treated the graphic novel as a storyboard, so visually the movie is almost perfect. Tonally, however, it feels like he didn't understand that he was filming a satire. That's why you found yourselves asking, "Is this scene supposed to be funny?"

Oddly enough, using the Cohen original felt fresh and original at the time when everyone and their mom's poodle used the Buckley version in touching scenes.
