Haven't got time to watch till tonight, but I'm hoping you both enjoyed it enough to watch 2049. I love these films so much.

Torsten Maekler

No, Simone, James Remar wasn't in this movie, but he played small roles in "Vampire Diaries" and "Grey's Anatomy". After seeing Star Wars, Ridley Scott really went with the "Used Universe" - Look. First in "Alien" and then in "Blade Runner". And it paid off in both of them :-)

Blade Runner was based on the Philip K. Dick novel "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep".

You should check out the theatrical release version of the film. It uses voice-over narration like 30's crime dramas, enhancing the feel as film noir.

I love the movie, the second movie is one of the rare examples in which a 30+ year old sequel can be really great :)

redddfer44

This is definitely the best Blade Runner reaction I've seen. Your ending thoughts made me so happy. Sorry for the novel in YT comments.

PickettsChargingPort

The theatrical release is the only one I like. Without the voice over the entire feel of the film moves from noir to boring techno candy.

It’s great that you guys liked Blade so much that you’re already doing the sequel.

Tom Smith

I think the idea was that the replicants are 'born' and for want of a better word 'programmed' to do what they are needed for (combat, pleasure, etc), and emotions are probably an undesirable side effect. The ones we see have had 4 years to develop their emotions and are still incredibly childlike, their actions switch from play and fun to sudden violent outbursts just as children can act (Rutger's scene chasing Ford through the building his face and voice occasionally switches to a higher register and he looks like he's having fun).

Kron0n

It's a really good representation of original cyberpunk. The replicants are basically bioroids. Biological androids. However on creation they have no emotions, it's a deviation of programming that causes it as they approach 4 years.

Oh, also, in addition to 'Ex Machina', also check out 'I Am Mother' (2019).

Calvin Allen

you look really cool with that eye make up

I really don’t like this movie honestly. I wanted to love it when I saw it for the first time but I was really disappointed in it. I love the sequel though, and I’m excited for you guys to see that potentially in the future!

David Noone

I'm glad you noticed the painstaking attention to detail. Ridley Scott reportedly drove his crew crazy with the amount of fine-tuning he did to his set and costumes throughout filming. People even quit!

Michael_AP

My God I laughed at your reactions when the movie suddenly ended 🤣 Great reaction video as always. Don't Google what's been debated about the movie as you'll just get to know stuff from Blade Runner 2049. Watch that one instead and you'll get your questions answered ;) May I suggest also watching "A.I. Artificial Intelligence". It's a very different movie and for a different audience, but that one also might have a different point of view on the A.I. side. Also there is an actor that you might welcome seeing again.

Final Cut is the best cut. The theatrical version’s voice over narration is terrible - Harrison Ford thought it was a bad idea and did a bad job on purpose when recording them. Which is funny on its own but makes the whole film seem amateurish and hammy from the start. And the different ending is cheap Hollywood faff, because the studio wanted Star Wars, not something to more ambiguous. Anyway, glad you realized why Tyrell is a bad guy at the end there. And as others have said, the replicants are organic. All the techs we see are geneticist and such, not mechanics or programmers. They’re not clones though, and are “born” adult with certain designed skills and abilities, so in that sense robotic, just without the metal. As for the cyberpunk feel: William Gibson who wrote “Neuromancer”, *the* seminal cyberpunk novel, was almost ready to publish it when he saw the film, and instead spent months rewriting because he feared people would think he’d ripped off Blade Runner somehow. So two independent works around the same time that established much of the genre and aesthetic, even if Blade Runner is more biopunk, really. Anyway, very debated film; form your own conclusions. Case in point, did Roy Batty say “Kinship!” When he saved Deckard because he knows Deckard is a replicant, or because Deckard knew he was about to die just like Roy did? Maybe both? Maybe just crazy talk as his brain went?

Githerax

It feels weird that in this sequel to 'Blade' they recast Wesley Snipes with, of all people, Harrison Ford. But watch the next one, 'Blade 2', they put Wesley Snipes back in and it makes more sense that way.

I'm an (not that) old fart now. But I very vividly recall watching this movie on VHS back in the day in my teens. And it was truly mind-boggling. And mind-opening! This movie came out way, way before cyber punk became a "thing", and it brought me into reading and enjoying science fiction literature. Which I still enjoy. You will find Blade Runner references in many, many movies, (graphic) novels and games made since then, and, together with Alien, it shows what a visionary Ridley Scott as a director really is. Awesome. Also, looking at it after many years, it seems to have aged quite well. Apart from the "How we envision in 1982 how computers will work in 2019", everything this movie does, from the dialog to action to looks, still works today. Which is the tell-tale of excellence.

Githerax

At least you had a VHS, not a Betamax. you old fart :D (I was 11 when this movie came out, so I can't throw shade about age)

Githerax

Also George, re: first cyberpunk movie, a lot of that started in the early 1980's but there's an argument to be made for 'Metropolis' (1927). Don't believe me? Give it a watch, maybe even a reaction!

David Gallagher

The building is "the bradbury" it is in a lot if movies

Garrett Grantham

I love the Tears in Rain speech at the end, because it’s Roy’s final demonstration of his self identity and defiance of his design. By saving Deckard, he is quietly shouting to the universe that he is a killing machine that won’t kill.

Sean Novack

You realize that in 1982 the "AI going bad because it's AI" cliche wasn't a cliche, right? This movie is almost older than both of you put together. Now...if a person believes that a replicant created in a factory lab is human and should be granted full human rights, how does that jibe with support of something like abortion - which destroys someone that is obviously a human?

Marko T.

This movie is amazing but I think I like the sequel even more. Rutger Hauer was also in Batman Begins. He played Earle.

Armchair Rizzard

its not about them being human, its about them being both sentient, and not a parasite, which an unborn fetus is.
