Lindsay Mathieson

Big Trouble in Little China is just the thing, after The Thing!

dieselbeast

Dumb and dumber or dances with wolves 🙏

Torsten Maekler

Yes, Arrival. Waited for that one *party*

JayF

Dances With Wolves is the best of these. Hope you will eventually get to it. Don't get me wrong though, these are all really good films. I'd put Arrival just below Dances and it's going to be a great reaction as well.

Taylor

This is a great spread. Almost every choice a winner in my book

Matt O'Keefe

Have to see what George thinks of Big Trouble. I have loved it since it came out when I was 11 years old. It's a movie that you just have to surrender to the fun and ridiculousness of it. It's really not supposed to make any sense IMO.

Ken Schneyer

Three of these films — Arrival, A Few Good Men, and Dances with Wolves — are important landmarks in the history of popular art. Arrival also happens to be based on the best science fiction short story of the late 20th century, Ted Chiang’s “Story of Your Life“.

Erwin Quiachon

I may have mentioned this to George earlier, I'd be interested in his take on how Big Trouble In Little China deals with traditional cinema stereotypes of Asians and Caucasian men .

mojo shivers

A lot of good choices here. For me though I would love if Big Trouble or Dances made it through. Those were both movies I watched repeatedly and still hold onto their charm even after you know what’s coming.

F Yale

Master & Commander is such an overlooked gem. Great list.

Brian Hakala

If you like comedies even a little bit dumb and dumber is a must watch!

Githerax

George is so mischievous. He *knows* I've been bugging him to watch Big Trouble for months, so he puts it on a list next to my favorite sci-fi movie of all time so I have to vote for Arrival. I see what you're doing here, George; you've made this poll to torment me. I will have my revenge.

Ron Moses

I thought, "gee, Dances With Wolves has some outdated representation, I don't know." And then I checked off Big Trouble In Little China and said, "oh... yeah ok never mind"

Tom Smith

In Bruge! Or the UK version of Death at a Funeral! :)

Juley

A Few Good Men is so well-acted and it’s a great story. It’s a classic!

HeyHeyJK

Yeah, "In Bruges" is one of my absolute favorite films. Black comedy at its absolute best and great performances.

Lock_Down

Arrival for the win.

dieselbeast

Dumb and dumber is nostalgia classic 🎨 arrival can wait for a later day but unfortunately looks like arrival might win, oh well maybe some other time for dum and dumber

Opti_Frog

Absolutely mind-boggling that people can vote for anything other than Big Trouble. 😄

DreamCanopy

Can I recommend Pride and Prejudice (2005)? You guys would ADORE that movie. :)

Jeff I.

I'll throw out a couple of random suggestions with Legends of the Fall as well as October Sky. I hadn't seen either of these movies until fellow Canadian reactor Popcorn In Bed did them recently, and they were both a lot better than I expected and made for great reactions.

HeyHeyJK

Thank god 'Arrival' is winning this poll. One of the best and smartest sci-fi films of recent memory. Denis Villeneuve hit a triple with this, 'Blade Runner 2049' and 'Dune: Part 1', and 'Dune: Part 2' is gonna make it a grand slam!

E.P.B.F.

Okay this is an easy one for me: 1) Master and Commander - The most accurate, and arguably best,Age of Sail movie ever put on celluloid. Also Russel Crowe's best performance in a studio movie aside from L.A. Confidential (sorry, not sorry Gladiator fans). It was just pure bad luck it ended up coming out at the exact same time as Lord of the Rings or we very likely would have gotten a series of movies. One of the great missed opportunities of cinematic history. 2) Big Trouble in Little China - Peak Russel/Carpenter. Together with The Thing and Escape from New York part of the holy trinity of their collaboration, and one of the definitive Action Comedy movies of the 80ies, if not all time. The rest are okay with some standout scenes, but on the whole personally i can take 'em or leave 'em to be honest.

William

"Arrival" should have won Oscar's that year, especially for best Actress. I have no idea why it was totally snubbed

Chris Lüders

Well, I think you just should watch all of these movies sooner or later. 😉

Samuel Eng

Big Trouble in Little China would be soooo Fun!, growing up i was excited to see Chinese on TV in a White area.

Andrew Smith

You two would defiantly appreciate Arrival.

Tyler Foster

I'm excited for literally everything on this poll except the movie that's winning.

stephen phillips

so many great choices here. please don't skip Dances with Wolves though, amazing and beautify movie.

Haye Zeus

I think most of the time movies are picked specifically to see Simone’s reaction. But I think Big Trouble is one of the few that we want to see George’s.

Saifu

Blade Runner 2049 when?

Githerax

Way off-topic, George; Youtube happened to roll your 'Terminator' reaction up on autoplay, and you mentioned that the 'robots fight humanity' idea goes back 'a century'. That reminded me of the story of John Henry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Henry_(folklore) TLDR John Henry is a folk hero miner (possibly a real person who became sensationalized) who dug faster than any man, but drove himself to a heart attack trying to beat the pace set by a steam-driven drill. The story was common in the 1920s, and is traced to perhaps the 1870s. Steam engine drills were invented around 1850 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drifter_drill), so it could've been a topic of discussion among professional miners at that time of history. First 'automaton uprising' story? I want to nominate 'Metropolis' (1927) as maybe the earliest robot movie for you to watch.

Adverb

Except for Dumb and Dumber, those are all great movies. I hope you get to Master and Commander!

NotlobParrot

So close to getting Big Trouble in Little China... :)

Austin Working

BTiLC is bonkers, man, I hope we get to that someday

James Whalen

BTiLC needs to win, I think both of them would love it.

James Whalen

I want to see George's reaction to the Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man".

Torsten Maekler

Watching along 'Arrival' with you two will be fun. Your senses of finding out what is going on are well trained. So it will be fun to watch seeing you analyzing what happens and deducing the story. Question is: when will you figure it out :-D

Torsten Maekler

Alright, George, here are more movies for you two to watch: - Billy Elliot - I will Dance (2000) - Born on the 4th of July (Tom Cruise, 1989) - Don't look up (Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, 2021) - Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Matthew Broderick, 1986) - Gattaca (Uma Thurman, Ethan Hawke, 1997) - How to Train your Dragon (2010) - How to Train your Dragon 2 (2014) - Inception (Leonardo DiCaprio, 2010) # it's not in your videos. Did you really not watch this one yet? - Memento (Guy Pearce, Carrie-Ann Moss, Christopher Nolan, 2000) - My Girl (Macauley Culkin, 1992) - Outbreak (Dustin Hoffman, Morgan Freeman, 1995) - Passengers (Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, 2016) - Police Squad (Leslie Nielsen, 1982) - Red Sparrow (Jennifer Lawrence, 2018) - The Rain Maker (Matt Damon, 1997) - The usual Suspects (1995) - Willow (Val Kilmer, 1988) - The Guardian (Kevin Kostner, 2006) As TV-Series you could add: - Tour of Duty (3 Seasons, 1987) # Vietnam War

Spooky Dooky

I'd just say please watch K-Pax ;)

Erwin Quiachon

Hopefully, Arrival will get people to share their own UFO experiences. Unfortunately, Arrival doesn't match any of the UFO encounters documented by civillians or the military.

john paul

I must suggest Gattaca and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest in the next polls

Amy Silknitter

How is a few good men not killing this poll? It’s a fantastic movie. So so SO good.

Jim Johnson

Is Fargo still coming since it tied with John Wick a few polls back? I’ve been really looking forward to that.

EMB

I have to throw in on Arrival. I loved that movie.

Marko T.

Batman (1989)

micah

if y'all want more tom cruise..edge of tomorrow with emily blunt is sooooooo good and so underrated in my opinion and its a BLAST

Rezblade

For Collaboration future segments to be done with the recommendation James versus cinema Magic Magy , Trixie blue that would be my suggestions

Githerax

I'm gonna try to make Untouchables tie with Dances With Wolves Muahahaha-DrEvilLaugh

Torsten Maekler

We are getting closer to 'Arrival'. Time for a quick heads-up. This is a slow movie. So take your time and absorb what happens. Pretty emotional also, so, Simone & George, it is perfectly fine to let the tears run. They will... . Aaaand I hope you'll go for an in-depth analysis afterwards. This films deserves it. Looking forward to this one :-)

Graham Bullman

Arrival is a great film to go back and watch a 2nd time, and pick up on all the little clues and fore-shadowing missed on the first viewing.
