I know this is old, and perhaps you weren't a fan back when you filmed this, but your guy, Legal-Eagle, LOVED this movie, and notwithstanding some of the really absurd stuff, thought that it was pretty accurate overall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1I7QBCHqng

Some unqualified legal advice: You should dress nicely in court because it improves your bargaining position. Everything you do in there is business; you're one of two parties both trying to get the better deal they can, and you haggle until you find a middle ground, and how you present yourself is an important part of a negotiation. Of course the mediator, or judge, also sets the rules for how you should conduct your bargain in their courtroom and if you act disrespectfully or dress disrespectfully (especially when he's already warned you, come on Vinny) you lose points.

Mario

One of my absolute favorites. Marisa Tomei won an oscar for this role and absolutely deserved it. Can't wait to watch this one.

Since each state has its own legal system, a judge has to evaluate and approve a lawyer from out of state.

JayF

The accents are authentic. You won't hear accents like that from most people in bigger cities in the Southern US but, as you move out to more rural areas, they are very common. Yes, Fred Gwynne (the judge) has a huge head but it served him well earlier in his career when he played Herman Munster on The Munsters. I'm not sure if you'd be familiar due to age and being up in Canada so here's a clip from that show - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRVdWNKvdeQ

And Justice for All is a good courtroom comedy/drama. One of the best Al Pacino outbursts

Dirk Rheeder

If you just want redundancy, buy a NAS instead, if your concern is just backup of the raw video data ?

Charlie Keeler

George needs relax 😆, it’s part of the joke

Amy Silknitter

Out of state attorneys do need approval yes. Also, lawyers have said despite being a comedy, the procedure of it is really accurate.

Marissa Tomei won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for this movie, which at the time was considered a huge upset, and for many years people thought she didn't deserve it. Later films proved her performance wasn't a fluke. Joe Pesci has an outstanding role in Lethal Weapon 2, and while he *still* plays a bit of a bad guy in the movie (reputation at least), it's definitely not a bad guy role. As a few have mentioned, the accents are pretty solid, and finally as others have mentioned as well, Legal Eagle did a reaction to this movie's courtroom scenes and provides an excellent report for the legal accuracy.

WHAAAA I was afraid this was gonna be a Superbad day! I just watched this a couple of weeks ago and it instantly became one of my fave feelgood movies. To repeat myself, for a legal case classic, I'm pretty sure you'd really dig the 1957 film 12 Angry Men (IMDB #5). It's not comedy, but it's incredibly satisfying.

James Hadden

I 100% agree with 12 Angry Men, I only saw it recently for the first time and thought it was a fantastic film. I was going to suggest it myself

Thomas Yanez

I love the movie so much, but I hate the stuttering scene with the fury of a thousand exploding stars.

Persnickity

Court room movies worth checking out... A few good men, to kill a mockingbird, the lincoln lawyer (Both a movie and a new netflix mini-series. The movie is good the show is great). Not entirely a court room movie would be Hacksaw Ridge that is also a military movie. There are probably better examples but those come to mind at the moment

The Maestro

you guys should watch With Honors with Joe Pesci and Brendan Frasser

DM DC

I love this movie. I saw Legal Eagle's review of it and was really surprised. But it was also interesting watch. Highly recommend checking out Legal Eagle's review of this and others. If you would like another courtroom comedy, I'd recommend Legally Blonde. Great feel good film.

gobmob2000

The prison scenes reminds me of Blues Brothers, can you two please watch Blues Brothers at some point, its one of my favourite comedies.

Great reaction to a great movie! A few things. First, people from Brooklyn talk with a distinctive style.. If you don't know the way they phrase things and how their voices change, a question can easily sound like a statement of fact like "I killed the clerk?" As for the Alabama accents, for the most part they were not particularly exaggerated, although many of the actors don't come from the South. I recommend that you look at this reaction by a real lawyer who says that this is one of the most accurate legal movies! https://youtu.be/a1I7QBCHqng I made a few notes... In the US, lawyers are licensed differently in each state, so an out of state lawyer does need the permission of the court to serve, and the rules for that vary by state. I hate to break it to Vinnie, and don't let any southerners hear me say this, but any good Italian should know what polenta is, because that's basically all that grits is. You are correct, George. The area in front of the lawyer's tables is called the well, and nobody is allowed in the well without the judge's permission. Usually the security guard will tackle anyone who goes there, but in movies and TV this rule is usually ignored because it makes for better drama having the lawyer and witnesses or jurors face-to-face. Oh yea, you love Marisa Tomei? So did everyone else. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for this role. Actually, the movie's portrayal of the weakness of eyewitnesses is more common than most people think. Juries tend to trust eyewitness testimony over all others, and eyewitnesses are usually very certain of what they saw, but memories fade even over a few minutes, and our brains tend to fill in things that were never actually seen. Eyes are not cameras. Oh yea, the judge. He was played by Fred Gwynne. He is best known for his role In the 1960s and 70s playing Herman Munster in The Munsters, a Sitcom about a family of monsters living in suberbia. Herman was kind of like Frankenstein's monster. You want courtroom dramas? The best that I know is 12 Angry Men from 1957. Yea, it's old. It was remade in the 1990s, and that one's good also, but either one is absolutely the best. A small rung down from those could be A Few Good Men, or Erin Brockovich, The Rainmaker or To Kill a Mockingbird.

Midgey_M

A great Joe Pesci role where he is not sleezy or a gangster style role is With Honors. A GREAT movie I highly recommend.

MacGuffinStuff

Joe Pesci's character in Raging Bull, Joey LaMotta, was fairly clean, well he did have some mob connections but frankly that literally came with the territory, aka the neighborhood he and his brother Jake (played amazingly by Robert De Niro btw) came from. Also that movie is great, still one of my favorites from Martin Scorsese.

Daniel Simmons

I have no idea about the Brooklyn ones, but the southern accents in the movie are very accurate. Another good southern based movie to watch would be Smokey and the Bandit.

JarHead0351

Our counrty has many different accents and some from the same city. Boston,New York, Philly, Maine, Texas, New Oleans, ETC.

Luis Torrefranca

Listening to the intro and guessing what it's about and just giggling away.

Chris Lüders

That's such a cute movie and in my opinion so much better than 21 & 22 Jump Street. 😊

Michael Short

I never get tired of this movie. lol

Michael Short

if you want another court room drama, and another Marissa Tomei movie, check out The Lincoln Lawyer. :)

Garrett Mazzuca

The beginning of the movie is very Abbott and Costello with the "Who's on First" style comedy writing. Sorry George wasn't into that kind of humor, but I'm glad he stuck with it and enjoyed the movie overall.

Juley

A great courtroom drama to watch is Primal Fear (1996).

Samuel Vincent

Id you are familiar with the YouTube channel, Legal Eagle, he did a take on this movie, and rated the courtroom accuracy. He said that this movie is one of the most referenced movies for lawyers. While there are, obvious, mistakes made for the sake of drama or comedy, he said that this, remains, one of the most accurate trial movies. In fact, Joe Peshi's cross examination of the witnesses, and his, open ended, questioning of Merisa are used as, positive, examples in many legal classrooms. Aside from that, I loved how Merisa's change of demeaner, during her testimony was portrayed. She was, not only, helping like she really wanted to do, but by pulling her onto the stand, unprompted, Vinny was showing his faith in her skill, to see the truth, with only a light hint. Seeing as, if Vinny had introduced his line of reasoning, and had her verify it, it wouldn't have had, nearly, as much impact as she seeing it on her own. In that moment, he was telling her that he trusted the case, and the lives of his cousin and friend with her. I think that was why she was smiling so much, and not just the vindication of showing up the whole courtroom.

Noe Ramirez

This movie may seem ridiculous, but police in the states are awful and there are many cases of people getting convicted over stupid situations. That's why if you get arrested in the US just shut the fuck up and get a lawyer. I'm totally opposite to George on the writing. The parts George found frustrating I found so funny! I find comedy writing like this hilarious.

wroot

Marissa Tomei got an Oscar for this role ;)

David Zabel

A Few Good Men is an excellent courtroom drama. A definite must see ASAP.

Atnor Morda

A sub-channel devoted to the full filmography of Mary Tyler Moore... would certainly be a thing :)
