David Koechner‘s last name is pronounced KEKNER. We stayed at the same hotel during a film festival. I was a critic/journalist and he was there to promote a really great dark indie comedy called Cheap Thrills. We shared an elevator once and he looked me right in the eye… like SERIOUS STARE and then farted loud and slow… like 20 seconds and he never broke. Didn’t smile… chuckle… just stared and farted. HILARIOUS.

Paul Rudd’s grandfather changed the family name from Rudnitzky to Rudd. They were Eastern European Jewish immigrants.

Parnells were the half-French family who could be hired to silence bells at funerals for people who you didn't want to pay respects to. Pas-knell was then subjected to the linguistic truth of "shit changes" so that English-speakers could pronounce it correctly.

Your t-shirt is Garbage, Simone. I love it.

Sisyphus

Did I miss that this is the unrated version?

Odd Thomas

The Smokey and the Bandit outtakes are a nod to that film, which I think was one of the first to include outtakes in the credits

Great Garbage shirt. My favorite band. :)

Love your reactions but not a fan of this format. Having the movie full screen in the background is incredibly distracting, I place my video in the middle-bottom of the screen and it's like I'm watching two screens of the same thing which like I said is really distracting. I like it much better when you place a smaller screen at the bottom like you did with John Wick: Chapter 2. Also could you please tell what versions of the movies you're watching because it's annoying when you find out you rented the wrong version.

Generators

definitely does not speak for all of us. personally i like a bit of the movie in the background so i know which part im sync'd to. having a bit of the image and the time code helps since different regions have different frame rates.

Persnickity

The sequel is also ridonkulous. By the hammer of grabthar I highly recommend it in the polls.

Zoolander next?

The german word for caviar or rather fish eggs in general is 'Rogen'. Since Seth is jewish and yiddish borrowed a lot from german spoken in the high middle ages the origins of his family name might be marine life related (though we can rule out 'whale vagina' since that as we all know is already taken.).

Jason Johnson

Ther was a small post-credit scene at the end of the movie.

RLYtoxic

Seeing Danny Trejo in this movie, makes me want to watch Machete.

PIG

Can you put Step Brothers (2008) in the next poll? Stars Will Farrell and John C. Riley.

Obsolyeet

Can you please start to include which version of the movie you are reacting to? The length of the movie helps but it is annoying to always go through the versions on Amazon to compare them. I usually just wait until some other patron whose already wasted money on the wrong version makes a comment about it so I can be certain.

So that's what Ralph Wiggum would grow up to be, a TV weatherman. Steve Carell is so damn good as an idiot. Also, in case you missed it or don't speak Spanish, the Mexican restaurant they're at, "Escupimos En Su Alimento," literally translates as "We Spit In Your Food," past of present tense 😆 Movie is so funny, now I'm on a Will Ferrell kick, Stepbrothers is next!

Alan, the amateur genealogist here... Since George asked the question, most surnames were not named after the person's job. That happened sometimes, but it really depended on who was choosing the name. A few centuries ago, nations began to require families to have surnames, however, in most cases government officials had to approve or assign the names, often with little supervision. As you might imagine, some officials were friendly and helpful and let you choose your own name as long as it was unique to the community, while others were out for themselves. A rich person who was willing to grease the official's palm might get a very beautiful and majestic name like "Rosenberg" (Mountain of roses), while an ordinary person could get an ordinary name like Taylor or Gardner or Smith from their job. A person who was disliked could be saddled with a partiularly ugly name. I knew one person who traced his name to the German word for divorce, for example. My own family name, originally Kov, came from the Hebrew pronunciation of one of the great prophets of the bible, Jacob (pronounced "Yakov"), so I imagine either the official was friendly with my ancestor or got paid off because in the Jewish community that he lived in, such a name would be in demand. An episode of "Finding Your Roots" on PBS showed that Rudd's ancestors were Jews living in a poor Jewish villiage in Belarus, not far from where my own great-grandparents came from. They were named Rudnitsky. They later moved to London where there was a raging antisemitism movement, so they changed their name to Rudd. Names changed for a lot of reasons. Migrants to the US often changed their names to make it easier to get a job. There are even stories of people getting new names when the immigration officer at Ellis Island misheard them when they stated their names, Occasionally a criminal would put their life of crime behind them (and keep the authorities off of them) by changing their name to something "American" when they entered the country. Back in the days of paper records, who would know? I couldn't find any information about Applegate, but since the words Apple and Gate came to English from the Angelo Saxons, it kind of places her ancestors squarely in England. Possibly they lived on an orchard in a house behind a gate. Or possibly some ancestor of hers changed their name from something difficult to pronounce to an easy, English name. Parnell may have come from the Roman martyr Petronilla. Caroll could come from the same roots as Christmas carols. Rogan is very easy. It's from the Irish word for Red-haired. By the way, Burgandy is a region of France, so his fake family would have French origins.

This might be the most interesting post I've seen on Patreon. Might I also add it was a post in reference to a film like Anchoman?! Makes it even better.

Terry

are they watching the unrated version?

Jon Johns

Seeing so much joy on Simone's face is what makes the world go round. I love seeing you two so happy.

John Howard

Zoolander is another good one from this era

Steve H

I've had this DVD a year now, just watched it today.

Tyler Mckenzie

So the name Rudd comes from old English meaning "red-breast", basically it was a person who habitually wore the color red. And Applegate comes fro Middle English meaning "apple orchard".

Tyler Mckenzie

The name Ferrell comes for Gaelic Irish meaning "a valiant warrior".
