What gets missed is that the bodies in the wall were part of a human trafficking operation that went wrong. A awesome documentary on this subject is Cartel Land which looks at militias on both sides of the border dealing with the cartels. Is there anything more like this ?

Lovely. Been hoping for a reaction to this for ages

Ashley Faith

I remember voting for this! You're welcome 😊 The 2nd one is great but Worse, in all the emotional ways.

Martin

You know the movie is intense when George abandons using the normally funny thumbnail for one that just shows Simone looking horrified.

Adam Wetstein

I think it is Ryan Reynolds from most favorite anything Canadian

Adam Wetstein

amazing framing of shots in this film

Jeromy M

Been waiting for ages for this, will definitely have to watch the long one. Denis Villeneuve kills it in this once again, hope you guys are watching Dune 2021 soon

Jack Burton

I think you're misremembering an explosive trap? It's the only thing I can think of that fits your description. (i could very well be wrong too though)

Jack Burton

I can't wait to watch this one later. Another classic from Del Torro, Broland, Blunt, and of course Villeneuve.

What happened to Ditsrict 9? You guys mentioned in the poll that it would be out a couple days after Dredd?

Cinebinge

District 9 should be available by the end of this week assuming all copyright algorithm checks passes. For the most part, aside from the weekly poll winning movie, all other films including runner ups are always released on a leaped week cycle to give time for Copyright algorithms to do its work. As often it can take up to 3 days for the algorithm to find a segment to claim and restrict access, at which point we would re-edit, re-upload, and wait another 3 days and hope for the best. This can repeat time and time again, sometimes exceeding even the YT release date.

I woke up to an email about the upload and I ran to my laptop to watch it. I like that George noticed the details such as the posters of missing people, it's such a huge thing in Mexico since lots of people get kidnapped, leave the country, or try to cross the border and die in the desert, and Mexico also has one of the highest rates of femicide, which if you notice, most of the missing flyers are of women. Also the sign on the mountains 30 minutes into the movie say "City of Juarez, the Bible is the truth, read it" the other just says "50 years apostle SJF" basically religious vandalism.

Erich Bomke

All Hail Denis and Deakins!

Keenan Bartlome

Denis is amazing, but this movie truly belongs to the writer, Taylor Sheridan. I highly recommend his other two movies in the "modern frontier trilogy" hell or high water, and Wind River. Absolute masterpieces.

Kris

Good lord, he did Hell or High Water, as well? Between those three films and Yellowstone the man is absolutely killing it.

William Sprick

Wind River is a must for you guys. A lot of those beautiful cinematic nature shots and it covers a really important topic that isn't widely known.

George: Why is there such a big difference in volume level between the full length and youtube version? I just watched the intro of the full and had the volume maxed out to hear you speak... Switched to the youtube edit and probably damaged my speakers. If I was wearing headphones I might be angry. Not that it really matters I guess. More of a fyi/something to watch in future edits. Thanks

Tinfoilnation

FYI she was included in everything due to a technicality of US law. The CIA is not permitted to operate domestically in the US... *unless* in conjunction with federal law enforcement. So for Brolin's character to be able to do anything and have legal cover while doing so, a US federal law enforcement agent needed to be with them. She was literally their Get Out Of Jail, Free card which is also why she was being treated like baggage.

When they use the night vision googles...... They use 2 different types of equipment here. The green tintet image is from "Night vision googles". It amplifies the tiny amount of light that's almost always present. If there is complete darkness, then there can be a tiny tiny diode "shining" red on the googles. That can be used in buildings. It will be like you are using a strong flashlight, even though it's so dim that it can't be seen with your eyes. Downside is if your opponent is using night vision as well, he will see you right away as your light will reveal you. The grey tone tintet picture comes from "Thermal vision googles". It's a system that uses the tiny temperature differences to make the image. The hotter the temperature the brighter it's shown in the googles, and the cooler the darker. (That is the reason the footprint was so clearly visible. A person had just set the footprints so the temperature there were higher than the surrounding area.) So the green tintet pictures - that's still how it is - just the quality of the image has increased hugely.

BlackOpsElf

Modern night vision is white phosphorous based, so green NVGs are obsolete by comparison.

Koonce

Whoa, the dude pointing at the map at 19:42 is the Spear of Destiny guy from Constantine. Great video George and Simone, also Sicario was sick.

Big.Bad.Mr.Mustard

If you want to explore more of Denis Villeneuve's movies, definitely add Prisoners (2013) to the list, an awesome mystery/crime drama, starring Hugh Jackman & Jake Gyllenhaal.

A note about del Toro’s character: He’s not Colombian himself. The cop calls him “Medellín” for what he represents - his alignment in this whole mess. He was, as he said, a prosecutor in Juarez, which is what made the cartels murder his family. Now, he’s a mercenary and, yes, vengeful spirit. He’s in it to avenge his family, but killing Mexican cartel bosses just so happens to align with Brolin’s (i.e. the CIA’s) plan. They retain del Toro’s services, so to speak, because weakening the Mexican cartels, which the US can’t control, will give control back to the “more manageable” Colombian cartels. At least that’s the plan (and the CIA’s plans never cause blowback, right?). Uncertain if the CIA really had much sway with the old Colombian cartels or whether they’d have that now; the cynical reading is that at least Colombia is simply farther away, and so won’t cause as many dead bodies to show up in walls in Arizona. Out of sight, out of mind. And causing havoc in South America is indeed something the CIA is historically much more comfortable with. And yes, it’s all illegal. CIA operating on US soil is illegal, infiltrating an assassin into Mexico is illegal, having him murder a family is at least a misdemeanor, etc. etc.. But as you correctly sussed out, that is really why Blunt was there: to rubber-stamp the whole thing. Anyway, there is of course a Sicario 2. Del Toro is back, but it’s not Denis Villeneuve. I don’t remember it being bad, but it did seem to fall into the usual sequel thing of “dude, bro, those action scenes in Sicario were siiick, so let’s do more of that” to some extent. Still, would suggest you watch it

David Nesbit

Now you need to watch the sequel. Sicario: Day of the Soldado , same Main cast except no Emily Blunt.
