Another great film in this theme is Soderbergh's Traffic featuring again Benicio del Toro, Michael Douglas and his then pregnant wife Catherine Zeta Jones, Don Cheadle (War Machine) and a host of other well known faces in four interconnected stories around drug trafficking

Simone @ A Clockwork Orange: "Could we watch a happy movie for a change?" :D Yeah, gotta skip this one. But I feel bad for Villeneuve reactions performing bad on YT... Nice Red Box D&D shirt, btw!

JayF

Heh interesting choice for a "happy" movie but it does set you on the path to watching Wind River and Hell or High Water (Taylor Sheridan wrote Sicario and Hell or High Water, directed/wrote Wind River). Sicario is a good movie but is actually my least favorite of the three.

JediLounger

The sequel is pretty good. Nowhere near this movie, but it’s alright. Got some really good action in it.

Monica Alarcon

I'm going to have to pass on this one...

Jay Davis

What a nice surprise. Another Keira Knightley classic!

Warwick Stinson

Thanks folks. Needed a reason to watch this again. Denis is pretty great and I think handled this script way better than it might have been in other hands. You mentioned his visuals a few times, they are gorgeous in several of his films. In Sicario as in 2049 his Cinematographer is Roger Deakins, in Sicario in particular it looks very Deakins, who also shot No Country for Old Men among many other gorgeous films. Really worth checking out his other work. Arrival looked great but was Bradford Young, also tops but not nearly as deep a field as Deakins.

Black Heart Games

Such an amazing movie. Everything the writer Taylor Sheridan has written has been phenomenal. This was the first, since Sicario, he did Sicario 2, Wind River, Hell or High Water, Yellowstone and 1883. An amazing writer. I really hope you guys watch Wind River, and Hell or High Water, both are absolutely incredible films.

Simone, just wait til 50% of viewers to be subscribers so whichever way you say it you'll always be right!

RoE = rules of engagement. Weapons free means you don't have to wait for them to engage etc, it's on your personal decision. There is a sequel to this, and it's good but it isn't as I want to say revelatory? There was supposed to be a third one on the cards but IDK what happened to it, seems to have died a death. Sic2 is optional, not so optional is to say this movie forms part of a soft trilogy linked by subject matter (justice on the frontier is how Taylor Sheridan described it once upon a time) - Hell or High Water and Wind River are the other two - they're very different movies but, yeah you'll see why if/when you see them - you totally should watch them though if you like this. Taylor Sheridan is a once in a generation talent and he just appeared essentially out of nowhere with three movie scripts basically ready to go, I remember when this movie wasn't known by anybody I sort of fell into semi-accidentally seeing it at the cinema, I was interested in it initially mostly because Jeffrey Donovan was in it playing a CIA operative - shout out to Burn Notice fans - and I was pretty much the only person in the cinema when I saw it (ditto Sicario 2), I don't think it made much money but has taken on a life of it's own over the years because of those of us who constantly rave about it. By the way green is image intensifier night vision, black/white is thermal (it's fake thermal here, which I kinda get because mil spec sensors are export and sale restricted by the US government and there's no real good alternatives in terms of resolution, which is annoying because it'd open up entirely new industries) - they're similar but different, modern military NGV systems have both and do sensor fusion which is really cool, I've actually used one of those setups and they're extraordinarily useful.

Taylor Sheridan is a great writer; pretty much everything he does is as good as Sicario. Wind River, Hell or High Water, Those Who Wish Me Dead are all top class thrillers imo

Odd Thomas

I just realised Blunt and Del Toro worked together on The Wolfman

Gonna repeat what others have said: watch Hell Or High Water and Wind River. Give yourselves a break and watch something happy and funny, but definitely watch those other two films. A word of forewarning: Wind River is fucking rough, but such an amazing film. Hit me pretty hard because while it takes place on a reservation in the lower 48, it could’ve easily taken place in my home state of Alaska.

Lovely to see, how the both of you are so captivated by the intensity of Denis Villeneuve´s work. Interestingly enough, you didn´t experience Villneuve´s most intense pieces of filmmaking by this point: "Prisoners" and, most of all, "Incendies". If you think "Sicario" was intense, you´re in for quite the suprise, when you will be watching these two masterpieces.

Tenn Seven

Yeah, I never quite understood why they put all the bodies in the walls of the house in that first sequence. Seems like something they did just to make the movie more freaky.

micah

omg what a lovely surprise this morning! y'all are the best

Tenn Seven

After watching The Usual Suspects I figured from then on I'd watch anything if it had Benicio del Toro in it. I think that's the whole reason I watched Sicario, and I was not disappointed.

Huckleberry lobo

Ohh hahah this is gonna be good amigos. I would also recommend Collateral with Tom Cruise & Jaime Foxx with an unrecognizable Mark Ruffalo 👌🏼

Ian Forbes

Agree, without Villenueve at the helm, it shows. But I enjoyed getting more Benecio and furthering his story. Definitely worth watching.

Jesus F Christ

Now that you've watched Sicario, Arrival, and Blade Runner 2049 you should watch Dune, Villenue's most recent film. The writer of this, Taylor Sheridan, also wrote two other great thrillers: Wind River and Hell or High Water. I can't recommend Hell or High Water enough. It's got Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine, Ben Foster, and Gil Birmingham all giving standout performances in a great modern crime thriller with a hint of a western (kinda like No Country For Old Men). Great reaction thanks.

I'm so happy you watched this, I feel like there's so little reactions to this movie out there and yet it's very well done movie. Like you mentioned at the beginning, there's so much tension that comes from something as simple as driving. Plus I appreciate certain aspects that you don't see, like the guy they got in that room with Guillermo where we only assume what went on for him to speak, seeing it wouldn't have really added anything we can't imagine. I hope you watch the sequel, it's not 100% related and I don't quite see it as a sequel, they could be two separate movies except you already have the context of the characters but it's still a good one with more tension and action. Thank you so much. Oh and I see someone else mentioned "Incendies", that is an amazing movie that Denis did, if you've never watched it I highly recommend it, I think it might only exist as subtitled in English but don't quote me on that... if it's like that, watch it anyway if you have the chance, the acting is on point to get you into it.

Wyatt Nuxoll

Did anyone else see the size of the coffee mug that Simone was holding , ... holy shit I need to get one of those lmao 🤣 😂

Denis is a great director, but a lot of credit has to go to Roger Deakins, the cinematographer. He also shot Blade Runner 2049 for Denis. He’s probably the best cinematographer currently working. He has shot nearly all of the Coen Brothers movies, including No Country. True Grit (2010) is an amazing Coen Brothers/Deakins collab you should check out. Also, I’ll throw in another vote for Wind River (2017), another fantastic movie written and directed by Tyler Sheridan, who wrote Sicario.

Foodassassin4life

I also would like you to watch Wind River. It's stars Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen. It's a great but sad movie with some good action

Jeff I.

Great reaction as always! I'll throw in another recommendation for Wind River as well as Hell or High Water.

AC10

Lol. I had the same comment a few reaction back. I thought I was the only one. It could be a normal amount in a slosh proof "soup cup". And camera angle playing tricks but yea... Oh great now I want soup!

Luis

Emmanuel Lubezki Is the title holder for best working cinematographer. But Deakins is up there.

DinChild

You aren't awkward, Simone. :)

Since there isn't a lot of reactions on this movie, and I like this movie and just wanted to ramble. I am wondering if Alejandro (del Toro's character) is Mexican since in my opinion, it's not very clear. He says he was a Mexican prosecutor but other characters keep bringing up Medellin which is in Colombia; and in the border crossing scene when he is pointing his gun at the guys in the car, I don't know if he is saying "con paz" (in peace like the subtitles say but subs can be wrong sometimes) or "compas" (which is short for compadre and slang for something like bro) and he also calls them "paisanos" (which means countryman) and that word is used a lot by Mexicans to other Mexicans (I know Colombians also use it too).

Noe Ramirez

I think they did that on purpose honestly, just a theory but perhaps they're trying to make him like a ghost. Throw in these different things so you're not truly sure where he comes from or what his backstory is.
