The Wire: Season 1 - Episode 11 & 12 - Patreon Version

Q

The look on Poot's face... I don't know how he could do it...

Byron Abrahams

The worst part about Wallace is the way they projected it. They didn't try to hide it, and try to make it a surprise. They let us know it was coming, and made us watch.

Dan Montgomery

Yea but I don't think that they picked up on the fact that Stringer told Bodie to kill him when they were in the car.

Hexon66

I think it's worthy to note, while I think Simone is a genuinely good, kind-hearted person, she may want to walk back the disgust at Burrell's comment about Kima's 'daughter' (maybe she does later, and I'll have to edit this). His is a perfectly natural reaction to have to regarding 'her girl', and is clearly no way meant to be homophobic, though it is obviously a statement of visibility by the writers. It's just this kind of shortsighted, yet innocent, overreaction that spurs on the idiots who cry themselves to sleep about the "W" word.

Pierce

its funny how George is almost always wrong about what he thinks is going on, especially when Simone asks, but he speaks so authoritatively that he knows whats going on lol

Angela D. Mitchell

Huh? Simone's disgust was at BURRELL's visible disgust at realizing what Kima's "girl" meant. Not at his earlier thinking she had a daughter. She was reacting to his open homophobia.

joe shmoe

WHERE THE FUCK IS WALLACE, STRING?

Luis

I hope they do a reaction to The Rehearsal. Nice change of pace and only six episodes.

George Smith

Bravo for watching this first season of the wire guys! I can see you guys understand what the writers and producers are trying to get across. I also respect how you are planning to watch a new season of another show to respect the order and wishes of all your patrons. But be aware that as far as The Wire is concerned season one is only the very beginning of a vast and truly insightful story!

Charlie Keeler

IDK if anyone's mentioned it but id suggest putting We Own the City, about the Baltimore City gun trace task force, same creators as The Wire, 6 episodes also on HBO Max.

Jeff K

I love the opening few scenes of The Hunt, for the way it gives Rawls a chance to show why he's in his position. Like, the first 10 episodes, you're wondering how the hell a guy like that gets to where he is. Those few scenes show that, while he's a giant asshole, when push comes to shove he is actually good at his job when he needs to be.

AgentFalcon

Would love to see you continue The Wire. Although, for a second option I'd love to see a return to WW2 and with Band of Brothers sequel The Pacific.

Davide Figus

The second season of The Wire is underrated. It’s one of my favorites.

PIG

So now we're closing out. I'll join the chorus and ask for Cinebinge to continue The Wire right away. There are a lot of us out there and I think you guys really love the show too.

Jeff K

I love, love, love the subtle callbacks and mirrors in this show. Like when Bodie and Poot are headed up the stairs to take out Wallace, Poot hesitates. Bodie motions with his head "Come on." When McNulty and Daniels are leaving with Avon, McNulty is at the top of the stairs, hesitating. Daniels does the same motion. Brilliant stuff.

Pam Nail

"Boy had to get himself correct" is my absolute favorite line in this whole show. Rawls in this episode is such a great example of a character you HATE, to the point that you almost resent every time they get screen time, but they get at least one moment that shows their humanity or vulnerability or compassion -- SOMETHING you can hang onto and say, okay, this is a good character. There are SO MANY characters like that on this show, and in many cases they really do only get one moment like that. :P And oh man, Wallace. So brutal. Followed by Dee screaming at Stringer in one of the best acting moments on the show.

Carlos Hurtado

D's "Where's Wallace" scene is up there as one of my favorite dramatic scenes in the show. I think about the scene a lot. The whole episode is great. Deep down you know the way things are headed with Wallace, but you hold on to hope that the cops will get to him before the street boys do.

Christoph Plank

The Wire will be the one of the best things you'll ever do on this channel. The other things you're doing can't compare. Not everything is about numbers...that being said, I maybe a bit salty. I'll just have to stick with calling you Burrell and Rawls from now on (just kidding)

Fuzzy

In case these episodes weren't hard enough, friendly reminder that D'angelo is locked up, meaning he can't feed Bey's fish

PixelPolyPhil

I have joined this Patreon after viewing your Youtube content exclusively for these "The Wire" reactions and it has been worth it, hope the wait on future seasons is not too long.

redddfer44

Stringer commanding a kid to kill another kid for him chills my blood. I've never watched S2 of The Expanse so I'll get to see it in good (virtual) company, even if I'm gonna miss these Tuesdays. Also: JACKIE BROWN?! Can't wait! My second favorite Tarantino.

Joe Williams

I still think about parts of these episodes, even years after first seeing the show. Its Shakespearean tragedy at points. And it only gets better.

Tom H

PLEASE can you consider making I'm Alan Partridge your next season to watch? :)

Ben

Not the series I would expect to be suggested on here, but definitely one I'm on board with! Love Alan Partridge.

ML

Please consider continuing your weekly Wire watch into the next seasons. You won't regret the decision, and everything you both love about Season One only sets the stage for the next four.

Travis H

“You follow The Wire, you get one of the best tv shows ever created. But you start to follow “The Views”, and you don't know where the fuck it's gonna take you.” - Lester Freamon 😉 But seriously I respect your decision to go back to The Expanse, but I still REALLY think not going directly into season 2 of The Wire will hurt your enjoyment of it.

Joaquin Stick

I understand the idea behind going back to The Expanse, and I want to see that too, but also The Wire really benefits from just watching it straight through while everything is still fresh.

Jeff I.

You could say that about every good TV series. Personally, I don't think I'll ever watch any of their multi-season TV reactions even if I really like the show, because it's not fun to have to wait several months or more for them to watch multiple seasons when you do one season of a couple other shows each in between them (assuming you're not interested in the other shows).

UsedFishing

Another +1 for continuing the wire

Nicodemus Archleone

Continue with The Wire. Whilst I'm a big fan of The Expanse this rubber banding back and forth between shows makes my head hurt. I would also request/recommend that you guys watch The Haunting of Hill House. All of the Mike Flanagan shows are worth a look but Hill House in particular is a masterpiece of storytelling and character.

gobmob2000

I'd like to recommend Battlestar Galactica 2003, there are some really cool scifi moments in that show and some really good characters.

Jeff K

If you guys need a respite from heavy content like The Wire (which I know is also very funny but, y'know... Wallace, and other things that have not yet happened in the series), you should check out Ted Lasso or Schitt's Creek.

Jeff K

I would love to see them continue on with The Wire, though I do understand why they might not/probably won't immediately do so.

Śéáń

I don't think there's a massive downside to giving a break between seasons, the original broadcast also involved a few months between each season and it didn't hamper its reputation as one of the best TV shows ever made. It's great to be able to binge when a whole show is available, but I don't think it's a requirement to continue. Glad to see that The Expanse is getting a second try, that a lacklustre first season (and, to be honest, a fair few Patreon comments) haven't dissuaded you from it. Everyone will be happy eventually..!

John Richards

except some of us became patrons only because of the wire reactions... without them, my $ stays home

Jeff K

"Where's Wallace" and a certain scene featuring a compelling and empathetic character yelling at a long-time character in a similar way near the end of season four are two of the most heart wrenching scenes in the series. You know which scene I'm talking about, obviously.

Travis

Hi, the Expanse is mid.

Mithroch

Michael B Jordan still gets people calling out "Where's Wallace" and he's stated he's of it proud every time. Even though his character didn't continue into later seasons... his death made such a lasting impression on every viewer.
