Yes!!! Thank you, thank you!!!

Classic movie about teenage escapism with Ferris having everything go his way, especially with his parents. But it’s a counterpoint for Ferris to have a best friend in Cameron, who seems to suffer from anxiety full-time and lots of stress at home. Also where the band Save Ferris gets their name from. I also love that Cameron eventually loosened up and became the enthusiastic tourist in speed who wants to go everywhere in the bus.

Such a fun reaction! Adding my vote for Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Given how much you enjoyed Ferris, I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy that John Hughes movie too. It has such a warm heart to it and John Candy is amazing. :)

Personally think this is a severely overrated film.

isnt the myth that cameron was just in his head? because no one ever directly addresses him but ferris.

Maybe this was the second movie to have a post-credit scene? Young Sherlock Holmes has one, and that came out a few months earlier.

I'm pretty sure there have been some more, but hard to remember. Only one I could name on the spot ist Airplane! with the "20 more minutes, but that's it" gag.

Credits History! The first movie to have credits *after* the movie was actually STAR WARS (1977). George Lucas was fined $100,000 by the MPAA for doing it. The movie credited with having the first post-credits scene was THE SILENCERS (1966), which had *some* credits after the movie (mostly cast), but not everything, like SW and movies today. THE MUPPET MOVIE (1979) had something a *bit* like Ferris (I won't get too specific, in case you haven't seen it). But the post-credits scene really became a thing in the 80s, with AIRPLANE! and YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES (1985) and all the rest that followed.

If 'Thanksgiving Movie' is a category, Planes, Trains & Automobiles has got to be at the top of the list.

Such a fun reaction! I'm glad you guys did this one. And kudos to George for another amazing thumbnail! I wonder if these come to him while he's watching the movie or he finds them in the edit. Either way, amazing work everytime!

Ferris is awful, he was selfish, he only brought Cameron out for his day because he wanted to drive Cameron's father's Ferrari and he needed it to get his girlfriend out of class. I hated Ferris this whole movie, and cannot stand it. Ferris does nothing good for anyone. And the sister and principal who were 100% right about Ferris lying wound up being punished for being right, which is never a good thing. It is akin to if you had a charming, likable murderer, and the honest (but perhaps less likeable?) cops who tried to arrest him kept getting abused and punished and suffering. You don't root for the cops to suffer and the murderer to have good things happen for him. The success of this movie is really an indictment of the superficiality and amorality of most viewers, that they root for whoever seems likeable, not who is in the right. It's like studies that show that in jury trials, whichever side has the more likeable witnesses will generally win regardless of the objective evidence and facts, and more attractive people are much less likely to be convicted than ugly people. This is not a good thing. I'm glad George at least caught on that, hey, unless we assume Ferris did everything for the goal of improving Cameron's life [which is really far-fetched] it seems like he's just a selfish bastard here.

Look, clearly Cameron was *also* cutting class that day. It's suggested he's suffering from some anxiety issue, maybe depression. So unlike Ferris, Cam is just going to lie in bed all day staring at the ceiling. Ferris, a reckless, entitled, spoiled, manipulative little shit, is ALSO trying to get his best friend to lighten up a little and enjoy himself. We're not talking about Charles Manson here, right? Just that somewhat obnoxious friend you had that always seemed to get away with shit and maybe Cam looks back on this day as a really good day years later.

Jesus christ you sound like a miserable, insufferable person. Films do not always have to be some representative lesson about the nature of man. Sometimes they're allowed to be fun, empty things that just make you smile and have a nice time for an hour or two. You're allowed to not like the film, obviously, but is it really necessary to go out of your way to right these fucking essays under every single mention of the movie? Just let people enjoy other things without taking it as a personal attack on your own worldview.

Rob Church

Cameron is probably one of my favorite film characters. His mix of anxiety and apathy in the beginning is so relatable sometimes.

I view it as they know that some heavy adult stuff is coming their way soon, and they don’t know what they’re going to do or how they’re going to handle it. But for now, they’re going to live in the moment and just have fun in the Great City of Chicago.
