Zorro predates Batman and is the template

Tony M

Zorro means The Fox!

Carl Whitted

I was hoping you guys would watch this at some point 😁

Re: the stunts at the end, you really should go check out some of the old Zorro movies. They have a lot of fairly epic rodeo stunts. I feel like Zorro is kind of like Dr Who, though. The one you grew up with is the one you like best.

Simone is right in that a bullet can't "stop" a human body. It can't even make a body move a fraction of an inch. A typical "mistake" in movies when people get thrown all around by getting hit by bullets. The only thing that would make a body move when being hit is the persons muscle contraction/reactions. If a bullet had a force to move anything then that force also would be directed at the shooter when he fires his weapon. Remember your physics lessons: For every external force, there is an equal but opposite directed force. ;) A bullet only weighs a few grams so even with the high speed is is travelling, it doesn't hold much energy, when that energy must move a human body. If you wanna see sexiness from Catherine Zeta Jones you have to watch "Entrapment" from 1999. It's with Sean Connery as well. There is a scene that George sure will recognise and go "That's where it's from" :)

Jeff K

The Murrieta Brothers were actually real people (well, not the one Antonio plays; that's a fictional brother). Joaquin is generally considered the real life inspiration for Zorro.

Jeff K

That scene in Entrapment is literally the only thing I recall from that movie.

Luis

This is one of the more peak examples of Hollywood white-washing Brown characters with very white people.

Jeff K

Yeahhh... when your three leads are supposed to be Hispanic and two of the three are Welsh, well... that's not ideal in retrospect. In fairness, maybe the filmmakers, like most of us, were genuinely under the impression Catherine Zeta-Jones was actually of Spanish descent.

Luis

Also for sexy fighting there's an iconic strip basketball game in Love & Basketball.

E.P.B.F.

Yup, Bob Kane and Bill Finger drew upon Zorro and assorted other vigilante type pulp heroes that were popular at the time when they created Batman. They even gave an in universe acknowledgment of their inspiration: in the comics when Bruce Wayne's parents get gunned down it's in the alley behind a cinema in Gotham's Park Row after they had taken young Bruce to a screening of The Mask of Zorro (1920) starring Douglas Fairbank.

Craig D

You should watch The Count of Monty Cristo.

E.P.B.F.

One of the inspirations. It's really an amalgam of various Robin Hood archetypes including the Scarlett Pimpernel. Also what McCulley used as source material for his own creation was a mid-19th century dime novel on Murietta, not a factual biography of the man. So with Zorro what we are really dealing with is a derivative, composite fictional character created in 1919 by a Canadian-American pulp writer living in Illinois based on other fictional and (at least) semi-fictional characters. Adjust your expectations and claims of authenticity accordingly. Just sayin.

Odd Thomas

This happens at least once in every reaction, lol: Simone: "This is so romantic" George: "BOOBIES"

Joshua M Freeman

"The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Baroness Orczy, first published published in 1905 is the origin of the masked vigilante.

Nick Scholz

When Batman's parents were killed, that night they were watching a Zorro movie so yes the legend of Zorro was an influence on Batman.

Troy Ross

Sexy fight scene, Zoe Saldana and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in The Losers.

Brandon Meng

Living for those moments where George says something like "Penetration" and Simone's like "wtf?" and then it's awkward until the next cut.

Ben Rogers

George's joke during the dance absolutely killed me
