awesome movie sad heartbreaking at times but overall fun watch!

Marko T.

Yes! Didn't expect this now. This is one my favorite superhero movies. Sadly the sequel isn't very good.

Tyler Foster

Really excited for this one. To anyone who has a 4K UHD player, this is one of the best standard discs on the market. I know many people have issues with them as a technology company, but if you're looking for a high-quality 4K UHD master, you can't beat Sony, and this is a great film for the treatment because it's all vivid colors and old-fashioned costume and production design on real locations, so it's just an absolute stunner (although they're re-releasing the disc with Dolby Vision next year, so those who have DV might want to wait for that).

This movie is pretty cool, been years since I have seen it. Catherine Zeta-Jones is almost unbeatable in the prime of her career, which this movie is partially responsible for making her very popular. My favorite of her films is Traffic (2000), which came out a few years after this, I strongly advise that you guys check it out. It is a difficult movie to watch, but very rewarding.

I was like: wait I have a box of old dvds somewhere, I think the Mask of Zorro may be in there, and it was lol. Brought my own physical copy...

I'll be starting this up shortly. Question for everybody though, who here has watched RRR before? It's one that I"d LOVE for them to watch. I just got finished watching the movie for probably the 6th time. Those that know the movie will understand how much I've seen. :P Those of you that haven't, please don't let the movie's length be a burden. It's completely worth watching! Yes, it's a foreign film, but it's one that I'm passionate for and that you will enjoy and value in. Please trust in that.

My first memory has to be playing Halo 2 where you get in a tank on a bridge on the original Xbox after breakfast on a weekend . Must have been 3 to 4 years old. Always have been a gamer and so is my first memory.

Great pick! I didn't even know it had been suggested but kudos to you two if you picked it on your own. CZJ was a huge A-lister in her prime. AB is still very good and what can anyone say but good things about Hopkins? Actually, I'll recommend a small indy film with Hopkins for just you two. It won't get any views for a reaction but it's a heartfelt story that you both would enjoy, 'The World's Fastest Indian". Here's the trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02Yy1vihIKs

Don Raphael and Captain Loves deaths are some of the most poetic and satisfying villain deaths in cinematic history. You two should definitely watch “Desperado” and “The 13th Warrior”. Excellent action films from Antonio Banderas prime. “Desperado” is technically a sequel to Robert Rodriguez’ first film “El Mariachi”, but you can watch “Desperado” without watching “El Mariachi” first if you wish.

Robert C

I totally agree with Jay Fullmer. The worlds fastest Indian is an amazing film that is too often overlooked.

gobmob2000

First vigilante fictional character? It would probably Robin Hood I imagine. If you think about it Zoro is just a Mexican copy of Robin Hood.

Generators

i reckon George is right though, one can argue old Greek myth characters are the oldest vigilante characters. Theseus for example, went around the Greek world defeating and killing monsters, villains and murderers.

Wow! I loved this reaction! It was so much fun to watch. I first watched this the year it came out on video. Wanted to see this in theaters but I missed out on that, unfortunately. It's all good though. I really enjoyed once I got to see it! Definitely a fun ride. As for who'd win between Zorro and V? My money's on V.

Onno Smits

I think you'd enjoy Mr. and Mrs. Smith for having a similar "sexy fight". 😅

sarCC

Yay! One of the best movies of the 90s!

Odd Thomas

If you want more romance/action adventure, you should check out Romancing the Stone! Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

AgentFalcon

Thank you so much for doing this! I think this might be my favorite movie, if I had to choose. Basically the perfect fun swashbuckling action-adventure, yet still with some real serious parts. As for Zorro, he is basically one of a the "proto-superheros", along with the Phantom, the Shadow, Robin Hood and such. I'm not sure on the details, but they where all definitely inspirations for Batman, Zorro especially. Zorro originally was Diego De La Vega, so this Banderas version is kind of a sequel to the original stories. There's been loads of movies and tv shows though. So he definitely has had many faces :) I myself love the Disney TV show version from 1957, especially the first season, which I just vaguely remember seeing bits of on tv in early saturday mornings when I was young. They're actually re-making that TV show now, for release next year. Hopefully it'll be good!

AgentFalcon

Definitely. Mr & Mrs Smith has a lot of the same energy as Banderas and Zet-Jones had in this one. Very fun movie.

JayF

Sexy fighting movie? Skin Deep (1989) with John Ritter. Those few who know are laughing their asses off right now. Those who don't, go watch it. If you just want to see the fight here is the VERY NSFW link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XOKvFyNquM

The Maestro

He's also a member of the Straw Hat crew from One Piece but that's Roronoa Zolo/Zoro named after the French pirate Francois Lolonois and probably this guy Zorro the Californian vigilante

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Zorro IS a title, George nailed it (zorro is Spanish for "Fox" btw). It's really cool what they did in the movie by referencing the fact that the character was at least somewhat inspired by Joaquin Murrieta, who was a legendary vigilante in California during the early days after California became part of the US, in the late 1800s. There are a lot different versions of the story and it's believed he was like Robin Hood in that he was at one point a real person, but the name and identity were used by multiple different people, exactly like the Dread Pirate Roberts in The Princess Bride, Pancho Villa (Doroteo Arango) actually did the same thing. In those days there were still Californios, people of Spanish and Mexican descent who were already living in California when it was made a US state, they had been guaranteed by the US government that their land rights would be upheld but that was largely dependent on whether they were wealthy enough to pay authorities who would otherwise typically ignore land grants or any other documents written in Spanish.

REDR58

Another excellent Anthony Hopkins film is "The Remains of the Day."

Nate Terry

movies with sword fighting are always my favorite

JayF

Both Hopkins and Emma Thompson were amazing in that one.

Odd Thomas

If you want more Hopkins I recommend The Edge.

Nicodemus Archleone

Another great Hopkins choice would be the 2007 thriller, Fracture with Ryan Gosling.

Marko T.

They wanted Sean Connery to play the original Zorro but he declined. Then Anthony Hopkins got the role.

Gary Fixler

They call out the meaning of the name when Antonio first gets to the "bat cave." He says "I never thought that one day I would be standing in the lair of the fox, the lair of Zorro."

W T

sexiest fight goes to maybe Mr. and Mrs. Smith or, more like it, Animatrix. The latter being just generally a very, very good time.

Brandon Meng

Can NOT recommend this enough! Quintessential Hopkins/Alec Baldwin/survival cinema!
