It's a shame that this movie was marketed so poorly when it was in theatres. To this day it's criminally underviewed. They really made something special. I love this bit about the production: Bird cited his favorite moment of the film's production as occurring in the editing room, when the crew gathered to test a sequence in which the Giant learns what a soul is. "People in the room were spontaneously crying. It was pivotal; there was an undeniable feeling that we were really tapping into something," he recalled.

"Now if all of the humans would just smarten up." Simone identifies the problem.

The message about guns and that "it's bad to kill, but it's not bad to die" was influenced by the death of the director's sister Susan, who was shot and killed by her ex husband before production began. Brad Bird pitched the idea as "What if a gun had a soul, and didn't want to be a gun?". The film is dedicated to her memory as well as the author of the book the movie is based on, Ted Hughes. An incredibly powerful statement to be found in a children's movie.

Now all the Iron Giant needs to do is give someone some therapy, and attach a buzzsaw.

this your first truly religious film Iron Giant is christ sie and then resurrected you guys have done also i love the war of the worlds when it transforms into the three headed monster

Yeah, it makes my heart happy that you have both seen this finally. See? I TOLD you you would love it! To think, Brad Bird went from this to "The Incredibles" to "Ratatouille" in less than 10 years. Three of the great animated films of our time. We're long overdue for a sequel to this film, although there are certainly legitimate arguments for letting this film stand on its own.

HeyHeyJK

Yeah, given the historic records, that's just never gonna happen, sadly.

just a cartoon Simone I laughed knowing you would think it good thank Brad Bird he was the story man behind it. My favorite animated film . it is very loosely based on an idea from a poem/book by Ted Hughes hence the sir name for hogarth Hughs.

Having just watched this reaction, I thought about Simone yesterday when I was in my new FLGS and they have a load of CR merch and I'm guessing some of the cast probably shops there, I know Wil Wheaton does because he gave them a shout-out on Facebook over the weekend and crashed their website with people going there to order stuff. Cinebinge should get a P.O. Box so we can send them stuff!

Great reaction, please watch Hellboy and Hellboy II - The Golden Army.

Just occurs to me, the story is kind of "E.T." but with a giant robot. Not that that's a bad thing.
