Craig Brennan

Mission: Impossible was a tv show back in 1966 and lasted for 7 seasons.

Hank Scorpio

Defiantly watch the rest of the Mission Impossible movies

Truth

Hopefully you continue the franchise. Its incredible. Every one is worth a watch

MangoAsylum

It's not about the reaction of the best movie of franchise, it's about the the reaction and comparison of the franchise, high's and low's of the franchise P.S. MI theme is the bop

Steve H

Maxine, in her day played Georgie, in the movie Georgie Girl, and she was in Game of Thrones

pinkdino99

Estevez and Cruise are childhood chums that appeared together with others from the Brat Pack in Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders. Estevez played this role uncredited. Cruise actually did the same in Estevez's awesome western Young Guns.

JayF

Great action movie and franchise. The others are all good but some are a bit divisive for fans. I, for instance, did not enjoy the style of the second movie, but I can see why others enjoyed it. Another good action movie with Jean Reno is Ronin which also stars Robert De Niro. Edit - George, "This feels like it was supposed to be a TV show." There's a reason for that. Here is the opening for the TV show which was from the 60s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwpXUn2dF5c

Jay Davis

My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to watch this reaction right away. This conversation will self-destruct in five seconds.

Marko T.

Good movie but I think this series started to be truly great with the third movie. It and the movies after it are better.

Garmonbozia93

It may not be the most popular opinion but this one is my favorite. Now I am a huge Brian De Palma fan so I have a bias but the blend of his style mixed with blockbuster cinema is incredibly entertaining to watch.

JokerDanny

A few movies I recommend: 127 hours, Sanctum, The Nutty Professor 1 & 2 (The Eddie Murphy versions), Kidulthood & Adulthood (British crime movies), Elvis (The 2022 movie). Also you have not watched the 3rd Austin Powers movie.

JokerDanny

TV Shows I recommend: Peaky Blinders, GOTHAM, Titans. Gavin And Stacey (British Sitcom), Only Fools And Horses (Voted the best British Sitcom of all time)

Twiska Brand

I say watch 2. It is unjustly hated.

olly.enn

Maybe do a poll... (I already know the result! ;-) Frankly, I HATE the second one. But to each his own! :-)

olly.enn

"John Knoll" actually IS a noteworthy credit-listing, George! :-) Thought you would know...

JediLounger

Other thrillers of note. I have deliberately left off the other MI movies, Jack Ryan and James Bond, since you guys are aware of those already. These are not necessarily action films. This list is not definitive. No specific order listed. Anything by Alfred Hitchcock. He could have his own list. Munich (2005) Atomic Blonde (2017) The Bourne Trilogy (2002-2007) Zero Dark Thirty (2012) The Lives of Others (2006) Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy (2011) Salt (2010) Ronin (1998) Spy Game (2001) Sneakers (1992) No Way Out (1987) The Conversation (1974) The Good Shepard (2006) Argo (2012) Burn After Reading (2008) Bridge of Spies (2015) The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) Breach (2007) BlacKkKlansman (2018) The Imitation Game (2014) Enemy of the State (1998) Three Days of the Condor (1975) The Gray Man (2022) Taken (2008) First one only. The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965) The Untouchables (1987) Edit: American Psycho (2000) Second Edit: As a reply suggested. The Invisible Man (2020) Third Edit: The French Connection (1974)

Foodassassin4life

You guys don't have to do the 2nd movie because there's no real linear linking plot between the movies until the 3rd movie. If you do watch it I'll be happy to watch along as always! It's bad for a mission impossible movie but it's not a terrible movie

JayF

Answering your question at the end, even though I'm not a fan of MI2 I'd suggest not skipping it. There is some carryover story that leads into MI3 if I recall correctly. Also, George and Simone, "WHAT DOES MARSELLUS WALLACE LOOK LIKE!?!" I kept waiting for you to recognize him but you didn't seem to hehe.

Bruce Bromley

The film is a pretty good adaptation of the TV series. I believe only one character is shared between the two. Jim Phelps, played by Jon Voight In the series it was Peter Graves, who was the airline pilot in "Airplane".

Tyler Foster

When the woman on the plane asks Mr. Phelps if he wants to watch a movie and he replies, "No, I prefer the theater," the whole exchange is a code, she responds to the phrase by giving him the tape with the mission on it.

Com1xguy

Seeing this reminds me of another great movie with Jean Reno... Ronin. Which also has a little known actor named Robert De Niro. Great action film. Also, I would say just watch the 2nd one just to see Cruise free climb at the beginning. It is a good popcorn flick.

Patrick Egan

Go ahead and watch #2. It's not terrible, but it is definitely the weakest of the series and as best I can remember nothing that happens in it is relevant to the ongoing story. Starting with #3 the series REALLY takes off, though. Plus, the movies become much more interconnected, if you skip any movies other than #2 you WILL miss story elements that matter.

Jim Frykman

Ahh heck it, as long as you power through to the rest of them it'll be a good laugh

Michael Green

2 isn't as good as the others, but I'd watch it for completionism's sake. It's more silly than actually bad, should be a fun reaction even if you wind up disliking it. Also, I'll echo the Ronin recommendation for a similar heist/spy movie flavor, and add in Sneakers from '92 with Robert Redford, though I imagine someone else has recommended that one previously. Thanks!

SavageDiplomat

Dont skip part 2. Its not horrible. Just not the best in the series but its not bad. Just a different style.

Florian Hoyer

Atomic Blonde is so underrated, its the answer to "how to do female action movie right" you dont need to change a male role to a female role, you have to WRITE a good movie with a sick ass strong female lead and then you get this movie xD

Nicodemus Archleone

It's been a while since I've watched MI:2 but I remember having a good time with it. Sure, it's probably the weakest in the series but it's not Speed 2 levels of irredeemable. I think it's just the clashing tone that threw people. The John Woo action full of slow mo and doves was a big departure from the first films (and the original tv shows) focus on the spy craft and intrigue.

Florian Hoyer

i like the 2nd impossible as well its not as bad as people say xD of course the "real" strong MI movies start with the "Modern" time i think part 4?

sarCC

Skip M:I-2. Watch Alfred Hitchcock's NOTORIOUS instead; it's the same plot, but not as dumb nor needlessly complicated. M:I-2 would be a good candidate for Cinecringe, though.

Vito

I vote for watching the second. It’s just a silly John Woo action movie. Go in with the mindset that it’s dumb fun and you’ll enjoy it. I love that stupid movie. But yeah, I mean all the other MI movies rule.

Calum Grace

Gonna join the chorus and say Mission: Impossible 2 is totally fine! There's some fun stuff in there even if it doesn't totally work, but I'd argue you don't have the third one or the subsequent movies without the second movie, to a certain extent. Be prepared for some over the top shit tho lol

ExquisiteCapybara

I would argue that MI2 is actually kinda important for the franchise. Not from a story standpoint, since there is barely any continuity between the first couple movies, but how the MI franchises evolves from the TV show small spy setting. (hard to get into specifics without being spoilery) Its not the best, but a solid action movie.

Monica Alarcon

Don't skip the second one!... I just wanted to add my vote...

Michael Robayo

Fallout is the best one, believe it or not, and this one follows that one.

Wilss

You should definitely watch the 2nd one, it's still an interesting and fun watch despite not as good.

Spacedone

The guy who faint on the train is a British comedy actor / writer called David Schneider, who started out on several famous UK comedy tv shows with Steve Coogan and Armando Iannucci in the 90s . and was one of the writers of The Death of Stalin (which you should definitely watch as it's hilarious). He was also in 28 Days Later as the scientist at the start who begs them not to release the chimps because they're infected with rage.

Jorge Lopez

Hi! Big fan of the channel. Can I make a small recommendation? I recommend not checking the cast list for movies before watching. It's not that big of a deal, but I think sometimes checking the cast list can spoil twists and big surprises in some movies. Especially when looking at casts for future movies in a series that you're just starting. Not something that happened in this reaction, but sometimes I worry you both will see something or unveil something you're not supposed to know before a movie or a series. This could spoil a death of a character that doesn't show up in future movies/season cast listings, or the return of a character, since checking the cast lists could hint at what happens to characters in a movie or series you haven't started, so I thought I'd make the recommendation to hopefully avoid that issue in the future. Anyway, keep up the great work, you two! Love your reactions :)

Spacedone

MI2 and 3 are ok IMO but not memorable. 4, 5 and 6 are excellent. I love John Woo too but the Hong Kong action movies style of his that worked so well in his movies with Chow Yun-fat just sticks out a mile in this movie franchise.

JoshG

I’d say watch number 2. It’s my least favorite of the series, but I don’t think it’s a bad movie. I just think that each movie afterwards is really good and in my opinion, better.

christopher b swanson

I'm 51, I have seen them all in theaters from 96 on, I love this series...............if you can skip MI 2............do it, and after 2, they get better with each installment....................also need to do bourne series, finish daniel craig bond

Amos T Fairchild

Keeping the frame clean is such a chore. Just shovel all the garbage slightly out of frame...

Ian Forbes

George, you and Simone should do #2 … is it the best in the series? No. But as you love John Woo (and everyone should), there’s a lot of recognizable tropes of his, and while the film is insanely cheesy, I think it’s fun that it’s a bit crazy pants wtf. It’s kind of the outlier and almost a stand-alone to the continuity of all the rest but still fun. The series starts to find its tone in #3 and really solidifies how the franchise will work from #4 onward with each film topping the last and finding a consistent central cast and production team. Really hoping for reactions to the rest of the franchise!

Grumples

I say give M:I 2 a shot. I don't recall it very well but I know I didn't dislike it. Not much of a sell I know lol

Amos T Fairchild

The cast makes some of the later ones better. I can't remember 2

Jack Burton

Guys, he wasn't searching the internet. He was searching for usenet groups that could possibly be the hiding place for this spy/arms dealer dude Max. A Usenet group was like a message board where you could exchange files, articles, messages, etc. They aren't really used much anymore but certainly still exist.

Dakota

Skip the second one. The story and characters introduced are not relevant to later movies in the series. From the third one on there are characters that are carried on.

Śéáń

I just came from watching Slow Horses (which is great, highly recommend so far) with Kristin Scott Thomas in it. Completely forgot she was in this film, strange for her younger self to suddenly show up 10 minutes after seeing her latest project..!

Pk

"was it meant to be a tv show? "... well yeah.. then they made a movie.... xD But it was amazing that the music clued you into that! I just assumed it always felt that way because I had heard it as a small child soooo much, but I guess it just has that vibe!

DinChild

M:I 2 is fun to watch. But they don't get truly solid until 4, in my opinion. With 3 being very strong.

Alex Ch

The series gets linearly better from here on out - but 2 is also a perfectly good watch and reaction if not loving it doesn’t keep you from continuing to watch.

Adverb

My vote would be to Jump to M:I 3. M:I 2 is awful. From 3 on they are all good to great. I saw this movie in the theater as a teenager, and Emilio Estevez's fate was very shocking, he was still a fairly big name at the time.

Pk

you're no wrong on any particular point... but I think they'll dig it because of the heist-y stuff.. and Thandie is great in it too... At the time when I was just viewing it as a sequel, it was great! But now 6 films in I see how it is a bit of an odder piece.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

When they brought up how distinctive and comical the face of the guy who fainted on the train was, I was sure they'd recognize him from 28 Days Later, he was the scientist at the animal research facility at the beginning.

Brendan Rafferty

Mission Impossible 2 is garbage 3 is where it starts to get really good

FranciscoGios

I agree with most people here about not worth watching M2 including myself, the love interest is very cheese the “bad guy” isn’t written as good as a “bad guy” should be. But I would watch it if you guys are planning to. Plus the face disguise scenes are over used in M2.

Marko T.

I played the PS1 game based on this movie a lot. Its fun.

SavageDiplomat

Why would anyone want them to skip a movie in the franchise. Even if you dont like the movie why deprive yourself of more content. It's so foolish. Besides the film isnt even bad its just the worst out of 6 films with a more action focused style. People in this comment section are exaggerating making it seem like the film is completely unwatchable.

Odd Thomas

Loved this in 1996, though we saw the trailer for months leading up to it and realised when we saw the finished film they showed the big money shot with the exploding helicopter in the trailer! WHY!

Odd Thomas

It was originally a TV series in the 60s I think. The 90s were the start of many a big screen reboot of old shows.

Chris Gronau

I'd vote to watch the second one in the series. It's rather cheesy and the Hong Kong Action Theater tone is a bit off from the rest of the series, but it's worth watching anyway....

Odd Thomas

I say watch 2 - the action is great, the plot nowhere near as good as 1. It's dumb but fun. As for Brian De Palma, who directed the first (and best) MI, he's great at these Hitchcockian suspense sequences. His most iconic film is probably Carrie, so I would recommend that for sure. Simone might like Snake Eyes because it stars easy peasy Gary Sinise! Blow Out is also excellent.

Odd Thomas

I agree, it makes for a better reaction when G&S are surprised when an actor pops up on screen. Also cast lists can reveal character names and reveal the villain for example

Odd Thomas

Speaking of John Woo, if you haven't already seen Face/Off I'd argue it's his best work. One of THE best action movies of all time and great performances by Nic Cage and John Travolta.

Marko T.

Other great Tom Cruise movie is War of the Worlds (2005) directed by Steven Spieldberg.

Dave Gaskin

If you’re going to watch the rest of the series, please *don’t* skip M:I2. It does have some great sequences - very action oriented - and an awesome Hans Zimmer score too!

olly.enn

Speaking only for myself: It's not about the quantity If content, but the quality. No MI:2 would mean a different film would take its place and I would prefer that. I will even state that I won't be re-watching a movie I dislike, just so I can consume the reaction "content". I'd skip that CineBinge video (as I have before with movies I don't care about). Also: regarding "exaggerating" criticism: Sorry, but maybe that is just my/our opinion? How can you flat out rule that it's overblown? I respect your opinion that you "kinda" like it, please respect mine that I find it terrible and cringy. EDIT: Btw: If they DO watch it, or a poll shows a majority wants them to; I'll be the last one to complain about that. And, hell, maybe they even enjoy it! That's also all fine by me. I can live just fine with people finding joy in things I dislike.

Onno Smits

I love how in the reaction you make a joke about how this random name in the credits is probably not noteworthy, and then it just so happens to be one of the original forefathers of the very piece of software you're likely using to edit said reaction. 🤣

Ricardo Alanis

I agree with still seeing M:I 2. Some good action sequences. Some parts do come off as corny but still worth a watch and makes III look even better. Also Jim’s “I prefer the theater” response in the beginning is how he signals to the flight attendant that he is who she’s supposed to pass on the mission briefing to. I grew up watching the TV series back in the 80s. It’s definitely one of my favorite movie franchises.

Logan Nelson

After 2 it all comes together to become one of the best current action series...

Steve Mercier

Mission Impossible II has some specatacular John Woo action sequences...but it misses the mark with the overall feel and style of the other movies. Not as bad as certain 'bad entries' in other action franchises; but, not great. From MI:III on they're pretty goddamn good. Once Christopher McQuarrie gets involved, I feel the movies really kick in (being the last two, plus the next one coming out).

AC10

Sorry wrong version

Steve Arnold

You really can skip MI 2! It has more slow motion scenes than Baywatch - The TV Series. The other movies are very good though. MI 3 is my personal favourite. It features Simon Pegg and a great performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman as the villain.

Chris Devlin

M:I 2 is easily the weakest. It's a very "of it's time" and hasn't aged too well. It does have some cool moments and there's fun to be had, but it's more like a Woo action movie than a spy, thriller. I'd still watch it.

Steve H

Yes, mission Impossible started in the '60's with Stephen Hill, and Barbera Bain

Steve H

John Wu did Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Perhaps Wu loves wire work too much.

shino2097

For fans who know this series well, MI2 can skip. But if it's your first time, I think it's okay to watch it, even if it's not rated well. It depends on whether you enjoy it or not.
