Twister 2 (Dusty gets the Girl)

Steve H

"We didn't want anyone to die"... Yes we did.

Pearl Jam

Wow, this brought back so many memories! I remember watching Twister at the drive-in when it first came out. It was such an incredible experience, and my mind was absolutely blown when the movie's own drive-in scene took place. It felt surreal and added an extra layer of excitement to the whole experience. Thanks for sharing your reaction – it made me relive that amazing moment!

Redrum Sacrament

"I'm glad I'm not an adrenaline junkie" I'm going to remember that forever lol. Watching Simone's cow plushie caught in that tornado lmao. I have just watched Twisters. It's way better than Twister but it stays true to the original while still being fresh and original. I'm loving the music in Twisters also. I use to have the Twister Soundtrack on cassette tape lol. It has Van Halen, Goo Goo Dolls, Canadian native Shania Twain, Alison Krauss, and Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham without Fleetwood Mac. Yes, Twister and Tornado are the same lol.

Tom Hess

Hi George. At the end of this reaction you said you should watch more Bill Paxton movies. A good one you haven't seen is U-571 (2000). Historically inaccurate, but fun. It's a submarine movie. So if you're sick of submarines after Das Boot, you can wait a while. Another one is Vertical Limit (same year). Mountain climbing action movie. Good Hollywood cheese. Was originally meant to be a sequel to Cliffhanger (1993) with Sylvester Stallone, which I would REALLY recommend as well.

MatthewBrown74m

Hey I was looking forward to this one! 😊😊

Onno Smits

For those curious, I compared and they are watching the REMASTERED edition. Runtime is pretty much identical, so you can probably watch along with any copy.

Odd Thomas

One of the most fun movies ever made. I hope you also get to Highlander!

Odd Thomas

Moonfall was awful but to be fair Emmerich has done some great stuff. Stargate. Independence Day. 2012. Godzilla (to a point)

JayF

Jami Gertz (Melissa) was in a few movies you will probably get to eventually. Probably The Lost Boys is the most likely you will react to.

JayF

"Death wind" was already taken. It's what happens after you eat Taco Bell.

Ruphus

I grew up in Oklahoma (where men are just men and meteorologists are treated like heroes - All Hail Travis Meyer, KOTV-Tulsa). Seen a few tornados and their aftermaths. Tornados are just a part of life. Everyone is edgy during the spring. The part they don't accurately depict here for me is the true nightmare which is "ninja naders" (tornados at night). You can hear them but you don't see them until you get a good lightning flash. The local weatherman in a forced calm voice is saying "If you are in this area, you should seek shelter now". I've hid in shelters, I've hid in ditches, I've ran to my car at night to abandon a house I was sleeping in, and I remember regular tornado drills at school as a child (all the children, up and down the hall of a school line up and get on their knees and cover their heads in front of their lockers.) Tornado sirens are tested weekly in every major city. I drove through Moore, OK in 2013 after it was hit, that was an EF5 tornado. There was a clear visible path of "flat" right through town. You could see it from the highway.

On the top of my head Volcano and Dante's Peak are a must watch, the second one being the more realistic version

olly.enn

I think "Dante's Peak" is actually quite a good 90s disaster movie (with great FX and miniature work).

Odd Thomas

Great disaster movies: Deepwater Horizon, Titanic, War of the Worlds (2005), The Perfect Storm, Signs

JediLounger

You guys laugh at the idea of a sequel, but it’s being made. Twisters is due out in 2024. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twister_(1996_film) In terms of other disaster movies of note, some other ones have been listed already. I really like Deep Impact (1998). I think Simone would really like Knowing (2009). Poseidon (2006) is a pretty good remake of The Poseidon Adventure (1972). George you should check out Geostorm (2017) for Cinecringe, it’s absolutely hysterical. The Wave (2015) is awesome, but make sure you watch the Norwegian version, the English dub is terrible. Greenland (2020) was shockingly good, there is a sequel coming. Daylight (1996) and Cliffhanger (1993) are two Stallone disaster movies from the 90s that I would check out. I always thought The Day After Tomorrow (2004) was a pretty goofy movie but then Texas got covered in snow in February of 2021, and the winter storm that just crossed the USA turned into a massive bomb cyclone. So who knows lol. From the ones that others have listed, I would endorse Dante’s Peak (1997), Deepwater Horizon (2016), War of the Worlds (2005), and Titanic (1997).

Young Blood Priest

George: Insurance covers natural disasters. Read the small print though because insurance won’t cover a nuclear holocaust.

Ian Forbes

From the internet: Cyclone, Tornado, Typhoon, Hurricane are all the same weather phenomenon; they are named depending on where they occur. In the Atlantic and northern Pacific, the storms are called "hurricanes," after the Caribbean god of evil, named Hurrican. In the northwestern Pacific, the southeastern Indian Ocean, and southwestern Pacific the same powerful storms are called "typhoons." Tornadoes are rotating funnel clouds that only form over land, and they're much, much smaller than hurricanes.

Ricardo Alanis

Deep Impact is a good drama on top of being a good disaster movie. Dante’s Peak is better but I find Volcano to be a more fun watch.

Astraeos

Bruh, George, you haven't seen The Wizard of Oz??? Yeah, I don't care what y'alls schedule is, THAT should be the very next video you do, absolutely. You gotta see The Wizard of Oz. It's a classic.

redddfer44

I'm a card-carrying member of the "Never hooked up playing Twister" club! (Never hooked up watching it either.)

JoshG

Growing up in Oklahoma every time we’d here tornado sirens, we’d go and sit on the porch to try and see it. Never even considered that was a strange thing to do until someone from out of state pointed it out.

JoshG

Travis Meyer and that glorious mustache is a prominent part of my life

Ry Jo

Dante's peak is good, but Volcano is fun.

Ruphus

It's not strange. It's just situational awareness. You have to know where it is and which direction it is travelling. Okies know naders.

Jeb Manning

You guys definitley should check out The Towering Inferno or Earthquake. Classic 70's disaster movies.

Lou Gallucci

For a look at a real F5 tornado - there was one in El Reno, OK in 2013. https://youtu.be/MMLlnAvxPKQ?t=294 Unfortunately this was the first time a tornado has killed storm chasers - 3 died when their car was rolled by the winds. Also - the CGI in this movie was pretty good for 1996.

Brendan Rafferty

This mediocre move grossed a shit ton of money and very briefly made Helen Hunt an A-list movie star... very briefly. She pissed a lot of people off at the Oscars. She was tasked with reading off the technical achievement Oscars that had been handed out earlier in the week. Technical achievement Oscars are what they sound like... awarded for technical achievements... someone creating a new type of camera lens... or, in mot cases in the 90's, making advancements in CGI technology. CGI folks who worked on Twister received a few of those obviously... and let's face it... when this movie came out, people didn't fill theaters to see helen hunt... they were there to see the CGI twisters But when Helen hunt read the names of the winners in technical achievement... you know.. the people that actually made her a star... instead of showing appreciation or even reading the list straight... she was disrespectful and mocked them, shrugging and rolling her eyes while racing through the winners and mock laughing, acting as if this was beneath her with a "who cares?" attitude So glad her time at the top of the A-list was brief

Gary Fixler

They did mention there were 4, but it was quick. When Jo first shows Bill Dorothy, around the 13-minute mark, he says "I can't believe you did it." She replies "We built 4 of them."

Com1xguy

Second that. Deep Impact came out around the same time as Armageddon, but I liked Deep Impact more due to it focusing on the people.

Alan Kobb

Tornados and hurricanes are completely different. A tornado is always spawned from another storm. By definition it is a funnel of circulating air that connects with a storm cloud and the earth. They exclusively occur over land and are very localized. A hurricane is a tropical storm in itself rather than a part of anotier storm. It is spawned in the ocean when cooler air above meets a region of warm, moist ocean air. As opposed to tornadoes, a hurricane often spans hundreds of square miles. One thing they both have in common is that while the rotational speed can be over 100 KPH or more, their speed across the earth is rather slow. A hurricane usually only travels around 20 KPH or so.

Elvenwitch

I was stationed in northern Texas when this movie came out. I am glad I didn't see it until I was in Florida. I have been in a super typhoon and several large earthquakes. I would take all of them over tornadoes.

Robert C

Personally I have always been drawn to disaster movies that are based on true stories. The Perfect Storm is a great disaster movie, with a good story based around a real life event. With a stellar cast to boot, it makes it a must see movie in my book. Another highly recommended water based movie is Adrift.

MatthewBrown74m

Now you guys have to watch 2 things Backdraft and dantes peak my father did the camera work on that one

Samuel Bruce

Been lucky to have not seen one personally but have had to bunker down a few times as they edged and hopped(like you seen on that fourth tornado, where it keeps going up and down) where I live in Missouri. Luckily, it feels like the Missouri River(Kansas City Area)has a habit of weakening the storms as they cross over it! I recommend Deep Impact( Asteroids, comets, etc.), Only the Brave( Forest fires, really good but sad), The Wave and The Impossible( Water disasters), Everest( Moutain Hiking disaster, true story), and for ridiculous go with San Andreas for a Dwayne Johnson disaster!

Pk

I am not with my usual crew for the New Year. So I was watching this tonight to kinda test my new ATMOS setup as well... what a good time! Holy Crap had I forgotten about The Shin(n)ing include, and about lost my shit because also some 🍄going on as well... anyway. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Pk

You made alot of really strong cases.. things I had forgotten about and things I should check out too. But Geostorm for Cinecringe cracked me up...

Pk

And honestly, the image in my head of the waves in The Perfect Storm just made me think of The Abyss as well... while "disaster movie" would be a colorful stretch (could have been), I really feel they would both enjoy it... though I did see it on a list of "great movies you can't stream anywhere" a while back, so maybe that is consideration on such things...

Ricardo Alanis

And yes, that Shining sequence was so good!

Tanx

I saw this 3 times in theaters the summer it came out. our first day back in school like 7 people in class asked our science teacher if we were going to be learning about tornados that year. the teacher went on a 30 minute rant about scientific inaccuracies in Twister and talked about how Jo and Bill would have be ripped to shreds just from the dust particles and debris inside the tornado, not to mention that they would have been tossed in the air long before making it to the building in the first place. then right before class ended a student pointed out that if it wasn't for the movie half the class wouldn't have cared enough to ask about tornados in the first place. Also, that summer was awesome for big blockbuster movies. think my friends and I basically lived in the theater that summer between Twister, Independence Day, The Rock, Mission Impossible and several other movies I can't remember without checking a list of release dates. think Cable Guy might have been that summer too.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Funny that you say George, Keanu Reeves was actually offered the part of Tornado but he declined, he's just not a villainous type I guess. Gary Oldman took the role instead. No but seriously, Tom Hanks was offered the lead role but he declined, and having just worked with Bill Paxton on Apollo 13, Tom Hanks recommended him for the part. I've never been IN a tornado but I've close enough to a few. Once when I was a trucker, I was driving a rig east on Interstate 40 in north Texas when they started up. I shut down in Amarillo and the tornadoes were so close a bunch of us truckers had our lawn chairs out in a field behind the truck stop watching the lightning show to the east and listening to our CB radios while three drivers decided to try to "beat the storm", to get east of the tornado path as it was travelling north east towards the highway, they beat the tornado funnel itself but the winds were enough that their tractor trailers all ended up on their sides and off the road, drivers weren't seriously hurt, not physically anyway. The storm that hit the truck stop was a bastard too. Monster hail, and wind rocking the truck all night. What's a trip is there were indigenous people living in the area we call Tornado Alley for thousands of years, how did they handle that? Crazy. My Army bros who lived through tornadoes all said some variation of it sounding like a freight train running through your house and it driving 2×4s into the side of your house like nails. And I drove through Joplin, Missouri after they had a horrendous F5 tornado, it was sad, place was just flattened like a nuke but without the fire.

Logan Kerlee

Wow, I didn't know about that. After learning that I now know why she wasn't in much beyond this. Definitely disappointing because I did like her in this quite a bit.

Logan Kerlee

While I haven't been through many natural disasters I was around for the Nisqually quake that registered at 6.8 in 2001. That was WILD! Scared me a good bit but in the end it wasn't all that bad.

Logan Kerlee

That summer was awesome for movies! Each of the ones you listed I watched but I only saw Independence Day in theaters. Definitely a great one. :)

Logan Kerlee

Really enjoyed watching this with you both! This movie's a blast. I first watched this probably right after it was released on video. Oi.. as a kid I was NOT a fan of the movie. xD My little sister always wanted to watch this. She had it once a week at least. lmao, but it was a lot of fun watching it today after not watching for so many years. I always really liked Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton in this. I read a comment up above earlier that described how she was as an actress after this came out. Really disappointing but that's what happens when you have immediate success, sometimes.

Thomas Wendel

I lived in tornado alley when this came out. Grew up here. Tornado's are serious. We teach the kids to go to the basement. Adults go to the porch. Tornado Anyway, I was managing a restaurant when this came out. Tornado touched down a mile away. Small one. I told everyone to follow me to the back of the store. Everyone went to the windows to watch. Then I did too. However, there was a poor woman from California in the store. She had just seen the movie and had never experienced a tornado before. She freaked out. I had to call an ambulance, we are all worried she was going to have a stroke she was so scared. I bet I would be the same if I was in California during an earthquake. They never showed a true midwestener point of view in the movie but I garontee that while Bill and Helen were risking their lives, everyone else was just sitting outside with a beer watching.

Jayson Phillips

The Federal government pays during any Natural Disaster the Governor of the state just declares a natural disaster. I live in Tornado alley so its pretty common here.

DinChild

I was in a tornado. But I didn't survive.

olly.enn

I was shocked how much I liked Deepwater Horizon! Did not sound like something I would enjoy but it was really good! Same goes for The Perfect Storm, which gets a bad rap for some reason. Maybe b/c it's highly ficionalized though it's a real story...

olly.enn

I feel it's a very American thing. Couldn't swing a dead cat over there without hitting someone who knows and loves Oz. Here in Europe for example it's very different. Maaany people may know the mere title or maybe the book but faaar fewer people have seen the 1939 movie adaptation (count me in there as well). Maybe that's why George has never seen it as a kid...?

Justin Wolford

If you enjoyed this movie i recommend "volcano" with tommy lee jones and "the day after tomorrow" with jake Gyllenhaal. These are the best natural disaster movies in my opinion.

Rayna & Mike Sitter

We had a tornado hit our house in April of 2011. It was a dying F1 when it hit, and it was the scariest fucking thing we've ever gone through. I gained a new respect for tornadoes that night. The sound will make you try to involuntarily shit yourself, except for the fact that your asshole tightens to diamond forming pressure, preventing it. The whole house shook, breaking glass, boards breaking, tree limbs breaking. The sound of the wind is indescribable. I had fuckin PTSD for a year, every time the weather got bad or the wind kicked up. I don't know how people handle devastating tornadoes like they get in the southern US. But I have newfound respect and understanding for them. Life changing.

Turnt SNACO

I'd recommend Dante's Peak over Volcano anyday. Volcano is a disaster cheesefest at best.....definitely not the best the genre has to offer. Do agree that The Day After Tomorrow is a trip, though, despite its flaws.

Persnickity

Oooo George will HAAATE this movie. Please up vote this if you want to see him and Simone watch it. Skyscrapper (2018). Stars Dwayne Johnson.

Craig Brennan

They say when they are packing up to leave the first time that they had 4 Dorothy i believe. Also all funnel clouds are twisters. It depends on where they are formed that makes it a hurician or tornado, etc.
