So, as I sometimes do, I skipped ahead to watch your afterward thoughts on this one, guys, before I watch the whole reaction. This movie has a massive polarizing effect, and when people don't like it, they hate it, and I didn't want to watch it if you didn't enjoy it. Glad you did. I know this is not a "good" movie in the classic, deep sense. It's cheesy and a little silly, but it also feels epic and fun, and it handles something that a lot of the world loves with respect. It handles something that, to me, could have been horribly cringe, remarkably well. I know, a lot of people won't agree, but whatever. I like what I like, and I love this film. As for the other films. Sigh. I may or may not be in the minority here (I think I am, because otherwise how are there 6 of them, going on 7), but personally, this series is a little like the Terminator franchise. In the same way that people said after Terminator 2, that should be the end of the trip, stop here. The rest aren't as good and feel very... Why do these exist-ish. For anyone who likes them, please don't think I'm being a dick. You like what you like. Although it's impossible not to let personal opinion or taste play a part in situations like these, I do at least try to give reactors advice based on what I think they will enjoy or what will get views, so I'm thinking of that when I say this. Stop here. I think the rest of the movies will be a let down for both of you, and they likely won't do well on the channel. If I am wrong, then I am wrong.

olly.enn

Totally agree. The first one - for me - is "kinda" fun and a bit nostalgic. TRANSFORMERS 2 onwards = movie cancer! They are soo aggressively dumb they hurt my brain, and sooo unneccessarily long! The only thing I really like about almost all of them are Steve Jablonskys scores. I for one will never watch any of them again, and also wouldn't if there was a CB reaction. Love you guys, but I still need my brain! (...partly).

Ricardo Alanis

The standalone Bumblebee movie is really good. It’s less cheesy with the humor with great action setpieces.

Kron0n

Clearly it's the Transformers Cinematic Universe.

Marc Post

Aside from the sometimes cringy humor, over the top action and stereoypical characters, this movie is really fun. I do also like the second one but that is where I also lost interest and haven't seen the rest.

Raven Dark

Finally had a chance to finish the whole reaction. This was such a fun one, guys. A joy to watch reactors who enjoyed this film as much as me. As I mentioned in a response to @Olly.enn and @Dekota, though I loved the 80s cartoon of Transformers, I don't recall that much of it, so while I would usually try to answer all your questions, I can't with this one, I won't even try. I wish I was more up on the lore so I could, because most of the ones you both asked were things I would love to know. I don't have time to look them up now. Before I go into what I do know, I want to reiterate again, stop with this film. To me, the second one wasn't Speed 2 bad, but it was a letdown. IMO, the ones I saw after that (and I don't recall how many I saw) are nearly that bad. I mention this again, because one of my answers concerns a later film. IF, you decide to watch them anyway, this next thing will be a spoiler, so skip it. I have left a space between, so you will be able to skip without missing the parts you want to read. Concerning female Transformers SPOILER _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ The answer is yes... and no. If I remember correctly, there are no female Transformers in the 80s show. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. As to why, I think it was just that it was 80s, Transformers were largely supposed to appeal to boys, they were based on toys that no female counterparts, and... yeah. There just weren't. Oddly enough, I never even thought about it as a kid. It just was how things worked. In the second film, however, there is (I think it was the second one). The writers seemed to be trying to correct the sexism of the show by adding them, being woke in a way that, to me, at least, didn't really work. I thought it was neat at first, and on the surface, I see what they were trying to do, but it just felt off, and sadly, it could just be that it didn't work because it went against the lore. And this is coming from a woman who doesn't like sexism in shows, so I'm not pulling the whole thing that some people did with the Ghostbusters remake with the women, saying that it doesn't work because ew, females. In the Transformers universe, it just didn't feel right. While I'm in the spoilers section here, the stereotyping thing Goerge mentioned is one of the many things that don't work about the later films. That became a problem as early as the second film, where the women are hugely stereotyped. If it happened here, it didn't bother me or I didn't notice. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ END SPOILERS I don't think the All Spark only makes evil robots, because it made the whole planet of Cybertron. It brought Optimus and the rest of the Autobots into existence, at least that's what it seemed like to me. There is probably an in-universe reason for why it sometimes makes evil robots and sometimes makes good, but my memory of the lore is extremely muddy. I also don't think the Australian actress in this film was just there in the random way in which you interpreted it, Goerge. I mean, there was no explanation for why she was there, but does there have to be? I'm not trying to be an ass here. Sometimes giving one makes things feel too handwavy. You know what I mean? In the room where all the hackers were, they were supposed to be from all over the world I think, and she just happened to be the one who figured it out. It may have also been just so that the film didn't feel overly "American." Which, sort of makes her a token character, I guess, but it didn't feel handwavy, Personally, I like that they didn't make a thing of it. Simone, did you recognize the one hacker on her team? When the Secretary of Defense was addressing them, the guy beside her said, "I'm so overdressed." He later asked her if he was supposed to be recording the sound the robot hacker was making. I'm pretty sure that was Andrew, from Buffy. If you forget who that is, it's the member of the nerd trio (along with Warren and Johnathan) who's name everyone kept forgetting. You know, Tucker's brother? :D I love this movie for a lot of reasons, most of which you two addressed. The sound design and special effects are absolute fire, and the music is glorious. Sam's character gets a lot of hate for being annoying, but I thought he was great. There were some hilarious moments, some really fun one-liners, and I loved things like his parents. I was a massive Transformers fan as a kid, and I just love how they brought the robots to life. I felt like a kid again watching this for the first time. When I first saw the trailer, I groaned and thought it would be terrible. In the wrong hands, it could have been. But when I saw it in the theaters, that moment when Starscream (the helicopter) at the start, transformed, they had me. I believe Starscream is also the one who flew off at the end, during the credits. So, all the bad guys aren't dead. :D I know this is getting long, but there's a few more things I have to say, so indulge me for a little longer. I am thrilled with what they did with Optimus. If memory serves, he is, here, exactly as he was in the cartoon. Yes, truck type, color and all. In fact, they got the same voice to be him as was in the cartoon, which just gave me so much joy, because I loved that voice. Optimus Prime is and was, hands down, my favorite transformer, so had he been mishandled even a little, it would have ruined the film. Confession time. LOL I have this thing where I'm attracted (almost more than looks) to personality. Sometimes that includes voice. Sometimes I also have a thing for size. It also helps when dealing with a character that is exceptionally good or heroic, which Optimus is, in both this and the show. Which, yeah, you see where this is going. Yes, I had a huge robot crush on Optimus. LOL So you can imagine what happened to me when I heard they used the same voice. Oh, there is a video on Youtube about how the guy who did the voice for Optimus (here and cartoon) got the part, and how he was worried about how to make a truck sound. He tells the story of where he got his inspiration for the voice, and it's wonderful. Check it out sometime if you can. In the cartoon (or was it in a full length animated film of the 80s show? I can't recall now), there is a part where Optimus dies. I kid you not, I cried for hours. Seriously. There are videos of kids on Youtube who flipped out and became inconsolable when Serius Black died in the Harry Potter books. I was like that. Honestly, for me, I'm not sure it would have mattered how bad or cheesy this movie was, I probably would have loved it, as long as Optimous and Megatron were handled right. I was just so happy to see it brought to life. Okay, one more thing. When I watched the show as a kid, I liked Megatron as a villain, but when I watched some of it later a few years ago, I noticed his voice was really high and squeaky. I hate it now. LOL Usually I hate when writers change things like that in a remake or whatever, but in this case, I love, love, love what they did with Megatron here. They used the perfect voice, one that made him menacing and threatening and super badass. It's perfect. Anyway, apologies for the length. This is what happens when you push the right nerd button with me. Great reaction, guys.

Hope you's continue this franchise I love all of Michael Bays transformers movies

Scott McClintock

So. full disclosure. I thought I was voting for the OG film from '86. I should have known better, but when i see Transformers in context of movies, that's where my head will always go first.

Oscar Diggs

The thumbnail floored me. congrats.

Brandon Meng

Fun fact, the opening desert scenes in "Qatar" is actually White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. I was stationed there (Holloman AFB) during the filming of Transformers 2 in 2008 where cast and crew met with a bunch of USAF Airmen who were extras on the set. It was a big deal for the community + Alamogordo, New Mexico!

Chase Lonnergan

The reason that all human technology becomes evil on contact with the Allspark is because human tech is built almost entirely based on reverse engineered technology from a Decepticon.

Lachlan Caldwell

Gotta agree with olly.enn; the rest of this series = movie cancer. You will actually suffer brain damage from how dumb the rest of these movies are (Bumblebee being the only exception).

sarCC

The Bumblebee movie is really good, way better than this. It'd be pretty awesome if you just skipped the rest and went to that one next. Plus, it's a prequel, so it doesn't have anything to do with the other ones.

Happy Hanukkah

Re-emphasizing your good point: Bumblebee is practically a stand-alone. There's absolutely no need to watch any of the other movies to enjoy it fully.

michael clarke

these films are all about the same. its diminishing returns just because... youve seen it. its hard to say one is any better than another. ive seen it mentioned, but the stand alone bumblebee movie was pretty good, just because it strayed from the 'formula'. i assume youll just see how this one does, and thatll be how you decide.

Purple Dragon Knight

Back in the cartoon, they originally had futuristic looking forms. Then on Earth, they all adopted forms that copied Earth tech. Autobots were regular cars & decepticons were more aggressive forms like jet fighters. Megatron was the exception. He was a gun. Bumblebee was originally a Volkswagen bug. In the movie, he's a yellow muscle car that wrecks the bug so he gets bought instead. In the movie, only Optimus Prime is the same as the cartoon, even the same voice actor. The movie was a success because old guys like me who grew up with Optimus had to go see him return. Younger generations went to see a Michael Bay film.

Jeb Manning

You should definitley do either Bumblebee or the 1986 Transformers movie. They're both a way better Transformers movie than this and it's sequels.

Smanuelle

Oh boy. I can't wait for the shakespearean drama level of who is going to say "I love you" first, only for them to break up offscreen.

Rachel W

This movie should have sucked-between the source material and Michael Bay, but it turned out to be a lot of fun. Spielberg executive producing probably had something to do w/that.

BlueTrane

Great reaction! This movie (Transformers 1), the third one (with Shia and Rosie Huntington-Wheatley), and I've heard Bumblebee are fun popcorn movies that bring back my childhood. Don't watch 2 (dark side of the moon - in which they rewrote the script part way through filming) or 4 (after even Shia had left).

Justin Wolford

I will say personally i dont hate any of the transformers movies but none of the sequels are as good as the first except for "Bumblebee"which is a prequel and is on par with the first one despite john cenas acting which i personally dont care for.

Justin Wolford

On a side note i dont understand the need to make a spectacle of not liking something. Just say you like or dislike something and why then move on. Not everyone is going to like or dislike the same things, be respectful of eachother this isnt a Call of Duty chat this level of toxicity is uncalled for. Be thankful you are able to be apart of a community that loves movies and gets to share them with eachother.

Josh

I’m a fan of the first 3 transformers movies. I feel the same way with the pirates movies. The first ones are great. The second ones are just as good and the third ones of the best. Can’t wait to see at worlds end and dark of the moon

AlimonyMoney

The first one was good because we haven't seen anything like that before, second one is known for killing Megan Fox acting career and her affair with Shia. She told magazine that Bay was mean and hard to work for. He fired her from the franchise. Shia went out and told the world he was sleeping with her. She later admitted to it.

Jim Walker

Yep I’ve been waiting for that At World’s End reaction for so long. A tremendously satisfying conclusion and an epic film

Onikaze

watching through this I had forgotten how ham-handed some of the scenes are. I do not think I would be able to sit through a rewatch of this movie in one go. Every "blockbuster" movie, and Micheal Bay film in particular I tell myself to turn off my brain and enjoy the ride but there is always some unanticipated extreme that trips me up and I start to lose my grip on my willing suspension of disbelief. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Man your patreon audience is wild. More people love these movies than you'd think, that's why they get shit tons of views on YouTube. Yeah, they're dumb but they're super fun to watch.
