The Wire: Season 2 - Episode 2 - Patreon Version

Q

This season doesn't develop slower, it's just the expectation that it's season 2 and you know some of the characters so you feel like you know have an idea about what's going on, but we don't. This is only ep 2 but you can already see the pieces coming together. I hated S2 when i first watched it, but I now have it as my 3rd favorite season, because by the end you have gone through the whole gambit of emotion and are spent.

Please please please put these on YouTube! I don’t have a TV but want to watch your reactions

Luther Mahoney! Another holdover from the Baltimore companion piece Homicide: Life on the Street. The Medical Examiner here was the evil drug lord in Homicide.

ever considered putting on the closed captions at the bottom of the screen? would be a cool addition

A couple of notes for you - COD = Dept of Corrections (I think I heard Simone get this one but not sure) Fights over jurisdiction - Very few cases come down to battles over who takes a murder but just like any other job nobody wants more work. Also nobody that investigates anything like murders, trafficking, child abuse, etc for a long period of time is going to survive the job without at least partially shielding themselves from personal feelings about the crimes. This is also what leads to things like heavy drinking and drug use to numb it. There is actually a term called "gallows humor" which should tell you how far back this sort of defense mechanism has been around for these types of jobs. I'm not a cop but I'm an Animal Cruelty Investigator and I often work closely with police.

Are you really? Thank you for taking care of the animals. There isn't much I hate more than a human being who abuses animals or children. I don't think the law does enough to punish people like that. I don't think I'd be able to do that job. I would break down too often. You must be a strong person.

"take a small break over the next few days"?! How dare you?! You belong to us! Dance, monkeys, dance! :-) Prospero ano y felicidad.

This is genuinely my favorite thing any of the creators I follow are doing right now. I mean, I'm biased because The Wire is my favorite show of all-time and I will use literally any excuse to rewatch it, but I appreciate your reactions regardless.

Tenn Seven

The guy who thought he was in trouble with Stringer is "Bodie".

I forgot to mention in my post above that having prior experience as a police officer can be invaluable as an attorney. The same thing works in reverse as well. Even in an Animal Control department we've had two former lawyers and a paralegal work as officers in our department. They were very valuable from everything from writing inspection warrants to helping with the wording on proposed changes to ordinances. One of them left us after a few years and is now our primary solicitor in court, helping us prosecute our cases. Her prior experience with us making her equally invaluable on that side of the system.

I love this show as well but my favorite all time is Breaking Bad. I hope at least one of them hasn't seen it and it pops up on a poll someday.

Just to be clear to both of you guys since you are not Americans, the themes, the morals, the apathy and the incompetence portrayed in this show, especially from the Baltimore Government and Police, is absolutely 100% applicable to almost every single major Metropolitan center in the United States. Every single Major city has all the aspects, or some of the aspects, that are portrayed in The Wire. Thats what makes it so great. It's about Baltimore on the surface, and sure Baltimore is a bit more messed up specifically, but what makes The Wire so great is that it is applicable across the country in every city. Sad really, but thats the truth. America is a truly messed up country, and has been since the 70s.

Seriously, this show gets better with every watch (this will be my 4th). Season 2 may be my favourite, I flip flop on that but honestly, yous have barely scratched the surface. There is so much more to come. I'll be shocked if I go the full week without watching the next episode:) I only watched your IT reaction recently. Ziggy's actor, James Ransone, also plays the adult Eddie Kaspbrek in IT Chapter 2. Eddie was the kid with the 2nd fanny pack 😂

I totally get the window thing. It's mostly to do with Catholic piety. There's a lot of social capital to be gained by a move like that. A lot of social capital and pride involved. It's not just getting in the good books with the church, but to be "seen" as being so, which is why the second floor window isn't enough for either party - not enough of the community would see it. Getting in good with the parish priest is a big thing with old school catholics. George referencing Don Corleone at the end makes me want to suggest The Offer for your next, or future, show. It’s a 10 part miniseries about the making of the film The Godfather and is thoroughly entertaining. What is the next show after season 2 of The Wire? Has anything been selected yet?

If you've ever played Fallout 3, the tall dude who played the doctor/coroner for the 13 dead women is Erik Todd Dellums, who was Three Dog in F3.

You should consider Generation Kill, same writers than The Wire. Making of that show is also interesting.
