george, the actor you were thinking of from mass effect is keith david. he was the voice of spawn from the animated hbo series, and also the voice of goliath from disneys gargoyles. he was in the movie you did "the thing". you should check out "they live" which is also from john carpenter also starring keith david. its become a meme involving sunglasses. could actually win a poll depending on the competition.

Got 2 recommendations for you. "Deep Impact" was a film that was released at around the same time with a similar premise, and "Iron Sky" a film about Nazis from the moon invading earth.

Deep Impact was in the poll and it got a little bit destroyed - yeah I don't know why either, it's so obviously a better movie (not at that I hate Armageddon, they're wildly different movies about the same thing released at the same time) just there was more care put into DI. I think Armageddon is more popular for the memes and DI probably hasn't aged so well, but it's still a better story for me.

I offer up the brilliant film, "The Right Stuff"(1983), based on TRUE events about the program to choose the first astronauts at the height of the US/Russia space race. Star studded cast, AA noms and is both dramatic and funny. A real masterpiece. The exact opposite of the Michael Bay crapfest. lol

If you look up the NASA footage from the recent DART asteroid redirect mission, you can get a real close look at the surface just before the spacecraft smashes into it. Not so spiky, but lots of regolith.
