Rash Bandicoot

What a great way to start my Sunday! Haven't hit play yet, but I know y'all loved this one! Thank you!

Maddie

If you want to do another Wes Anderson movie, I recommend Moonrise Kingdom!

Odd Thomas

It's great, but not my favourite of his. I do love The Life Aquatic, Moonrise Kingdom, Isle of Dogs and Fantastic Mr Fox. His last one with Timothee Chalamet was awful though; I didn't even finish it.

jmundt33a

Fantastic Mr. Fox is a brutal, nauseating waste of voice talent and source material. 😤 I just didn’t vibe with Moonrise Kingdom or this film, but I accept that’s just me. FMF is another matter entirely. But this is up and everyone who enjoyed it can now enjoy the reaction. Huzzah.

Woody G

One of my favorite movies and directors.

Brandon Meng

This is one of my most anticipated reactions on this channel. So excited to dive in later. I hope you loved it!

Daniel Popp

If you want to see Willem Dafoe in one of his most heartwarming roles, I recommend The Florida Project. Such a great coming of age story.

Cincassette

My absolute favourite Wes Anderson film is "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou". There are few films that consistently resonates with me like it does, as an artistic vision, through its settings, the myriad of unique but relatable characters, their interpersonal relationships, and the amazing soundtrack!

Paul G

Minor clarification on the timelines, present day is the girl reading on the bench (presumably set in 2014), the older Author played by Tom Wilkinson is set in 1985, Jude Law plays a younger version of the same Author first hearing the story and that is set in 1968, then the bulk of the flashback is set in 1932.

G P

The Royal Tenenbaums is probably his best film

Odd Thomas

It's a shame you didn't recognise Lea Seydoux, she's a huge star in French cinema. Most people know her here from the Daniel Craig Bond movies but she was also in MI4 and a stunning French version of Beauty and the Beast; far better than the bland Disney one imo.

Roby J

Adding another vote for Moonrise Kingdom. I absolutely loved that one.

Monica Alarcon

Yes!!!! I hope this opens the door for more Wes Anderson, my wishlist would be The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, The Aquatic Life with Steve Zizou, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, Isle of Dogs, The French Dispatch... wait, I think I listed most of them...

G P

Check out Amadeus for more F Murray Abraham

Brendan Rafferty

Where is Man of Steel? I'm starting to think you guys were cruelly teasing us when you said you were going to watch it after Pirates of the Carribean

Maddie

Willem has played a good guy! In the movie Mississippi Burning! It's a great movie with Gene Hackman and Margie from Fargo!

john blake

The life aquatic is my favorite Anderson film but I enjoy all of them.

john blake

Willem plays a good guy in a great little unknown film called White Sands.

Gath Bard

Heh, this is one of my favorite movies. I also like "The life acquatic with Steve Zissou" (Wes Anderson still, but totally different). Also Tilda Swinton's transformation skills are absurd. If you're interested in that, in Suspiria (2018 remake) she really goes all out.

Cinebinge

Man of Steel will be next Sunday should everything go smoothly with copyright bots and detections. Usually, close 2nd place in polls are filmed the week AFTER the poll as the week OF the poll is reserved for the winner + 2nd place of the previous week + 1 random the two of us choose. Once a movie has been filmed, it is in a queue to be edited and that usually takes 3-4 days, then it needs to sit and wait to allow copyright detection bots an other 3-4 days to find any problems before either getting re-edited, or released on Patreon. So all in all, from the end of a poll, 2nd place that came very close will be uploaded to patreon roughly 10-12 days after the conclusion of the poll.

Jay

That was great. Ralph Fiennes is hilarious every moment he's on screen, that man has got some range. All Wes Anderon's greatest hits have been mentioned but if you want another funny, albeit much darker performance from Mr Fiennes, check out The Menu. A black comedy/horror from last year, great fun and GREAT reaction material.

Lars G

The Royal Tenenbuaums is my favorite Wes Anderson movie, but I think Darjeeling Limited is very underrated. Adrien Brody and Owen Wilson are excellent in it.

JayF

Simone and George, cats can fall from as high as 20 stories with little to no injuries. Which makes this movie literally unwatchable (just kidding).

Brandon Meng

Okay, watched. I always assumed there was a secret society of YouTube movie reactors? Maybe I was wrong ... Willem Dafoe must sees: The Boondock Saints, The Lighthouse, Spider-Man Best Wes Anderson movies... Grand Budapest is surely the best, but these are also classics: Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Moonrise Kingdom (my favorite outside of GBH), and Rushmore. Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox has a toooooon of critical acclaim and even features Willem Dafoe, but I have to admit I haven't seen it. I'm not always up on all the animated films. Anyway, loved this reaction, you guys are awesome, thank you for being you!

Scott Elsasser

Absolutely wonderful film, i've been waiting for you guys to review this since i started watching cinebinge. It, and you, lived up to every expectation. Thank you SO much for putting this on your schedule. Loved every minute!

George mentioned the inspiration of the book, the books of Stefan Zweig. The film is original writing, but has the themes inspired by Zweig. He wrote about the world of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, which collapsed with WW 1. His major theme is nostalgia and the different world before the wars. His most famous novel is The World of Yesterday, which he finished 1942 in exile, in Brazil, having fled Europe. A day later Zweig and his wife committed suicide, being depressed about the exile and the war.

REDR58

F. Murray Abraham! Anyway, check out Ralph Fiennes as a non-villian in "The Reader" from 2008,

William Albright

I have been waiting for this reaction for so long lol

I go og with Wes Anderson. Cause my fav Wes is Bottle Rocket, his first movie. I know the fan base sees it as a lesser movie, cause it’s not as stylized and feels more like a common 90’s indie movie. But there’s a charm to it that I enjoy. I like the simplicity of it.

Nick Parker

Royal Tenenbaums Life Aquatic Rushmore Moonrise Kingdom then Isle of Dogs If I had to rank them this would be the order but sometimes it is just the one I have seen most recently.

MacGuffinStuff

Super excited for this, the first Wes Anderson movie on the channel! Hoping for more, The Royal Tenenbaums is my favorite with Rushmore a close second, but also love his first little film, Bottle Rocket, and that's just the first three movies on the list. Really loved The Darjeeling Limited too, and so on, you get it.

MacGuffinStuff

To answer George about Willem Dafoe playing non villains (btw his name is actually William, 'Willem" was actually a typo that he just decided to go with), I have to recommend Platoon. Of course it's a pretty realistic, read dark, view of the Vietnam War, but his character is based on a real person that Oliver Stone knew when he was an infantryman there, who he explained on Joe Rogan's podcast was actually either a Native or Mexican American sergeant from another platoon, who had served in the LRRPs (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol aka "Rangers"). Anyway he's great in that. He's also great in The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, he's like a cuddly German sidekick in that, as only he could be.

Magnificent Gojira

One might add to Platoon also Mississipi Burning, Florida Project and quite a few others some of them actually already've been on Cinebinge like first John Wick or Spider-Man. Well, and he played Jesus in Last Temptation of Christ though pretty revisionist version. My favourite Willem is in quasi-documentary Fishing With Jonh when he plays fictional version of himself (can't imagine this film here)

Philipp Roensch

My favorite Wes Anderson movie, kind of personal connection because it was filmed close around my home region, where you can find such quaint cobblestone streets :D. The page is German but you can tell the locations are real by the comparison images: https://www.filmtourismus.de/10-the-grand-budapest-hotel-locations/ The outside shots are of course real mountains but miniature Hotel and cable cars as you rightly deduced.

Gary Fixler

I can confirm, c/o family members born in the 30s, that "candy ass" was a very common insult for people of that era. I, myself, have been called a candy ass (by said family members) on more than one occasion.

Tomas

I don't know if you can call his role a "good guy", but Willem Dafoe does an amazing job in The Boondock Saints, where he is at least not a villain. Would looove to see a reaction to that movie, it's fantastic =D Only the first one though, the sequel was pretty meh

redddfer44

George: AVENGERS-TYPE CAST. I can't hate you but MAN. :D

samuel Jakob

Im so happy you finally got to this masterpiece, I love the story, I love the cinematography but the most important thing for me is actually the humor, this is probably my favorite comedy ever, no matter how many times I watch it, it always makes me laugh alot. Thanks for the reaction and im really happy you enjoyed it, even tho I was sure you would before.

Pk

This was so good... and as I just watched the trailer for "Asteroid City" it looks like more Wes Anderson fun coming down the pike... :)

Thomas Young

The Royal Tenenbaums is my favorite of his, this being a close second. Gene Hackman being in it gives it the edge for me. Also Angelica Houston, Ben Stiller, and many others.

Joey Contreras

Check out for TOGO, guys. One of the movies where Willem Dafoe is not a villain + a real story about a dog that saved many lives.

Mister Forbez

Wes Anderson is a goddamn genre. I haven't seen all of his movies, but have enjiyed what I have seen, and recommed: 'Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic, and Moonrise Kingdom.'

Cliché Guevara

Anderson is the reigning King of Engineered Whimsy.

Robin

If you ever want to do a series of directors' first feature films, you should add Wes Anderson's Bottle Rocket to the list.

Scott G

I haven't loved all of Wes Anderson's movies, but I think this one is a masterpiece.

Jesse Coombs

Any chance that you guys would react to any other Wes Anderson movies? Because if so, I'd be willing to put up some cash, ya see?

Amelie W

Speaking of stories within stories, I should recommend Moulin Rouge (2001). Not giving anything away, but it's got a stage play about a guy singing about his friend writing about a tragic incident where he wrote a musical about a songwriter's adventures in storybook romance.

D. T. Nelson

No uncovered version of Grand Budapest? Or just no link yet?

Jesse Coombs

Is this the only Wes Anderson movie y'all have watched, because you should watch all of them. They're excellent.

Jan Birgersson

George the subtitle for the uncovered version starts at 36,48 minutes ant then a little time later freezes for the rest of the movie.
