Gotta love Denzel! I just got off work so this is perfect timing too

Fuzzy Dunlop

Maybe check out "Fallen" with Denzel, John Goodman, James Gandolfini, Donald Sutherland. An underrated movie where Denzel also plays a cop,...but not like this.

Jay Davis

Fallen is really good. Deja Vu too. Both'd be good. Anything Denzel come to think of it it. LOL

Foodassassin4life

Fallen is a great Denzel Washington movie please watch it!!!!!

Julian Calzada

Man on Fire. I really hope you guys get to check that one out every tho it doesnt look like it won the poll. Good boy Denzul :O

Graham Bullman

It's not likely to beat Zodiac in your current poll, but Man on Fire is my fave Denzel movie, and would be a great one to get back to his good side. Fallen as mentioned below is also great and a much earlier one for him.

PastaDon

I don't know.. I mean, all of Denzels characters are pretty intense antiheroes.. so, if you're looking for sugar George that's not what you're gonna find in a Denzel film.. maybe the exception is John Q '02 I guess.. but some of his best anti-hero films are.. Man on fire '04 Book of Eli '10 Inside man '06 American Gangster '07 The Siege '98 He got game '98 Honestly you could watch anything that guys in and like it.. because any project he's a part of practically turns to gold.. Thanks for the video George & Simone..

SimianSupreme

I love Man on Fire. It is one of those strangely uplifting tragedies. As is Book of Eli I suppose, and I love that one as well. Okay, most of his movies are great...

Stufer23

Unstoppable , fallen and others already mentioned !

Orphan Crippler

I wanted to hear the story about Georges 7 minute job

Martin

I like Simone’s idea for a sequel. We can call it “Training Day 2: Electric Boogaloo.”

MacGuffinStuff

Glory. Now you gotta watch Glory, I believe that's considered Denzel's breakout role, got an Oscar for it. That or Philadelphia, but I think Philadelphia was more like Tom Hanks' dramatic breakout role, after Big. I knew you guys would like this one, you know an actor is great when they can play a really unlikable villain and still be charismatic almost to the point of reverence. Also gotta point out Cliff Curtis as Smiley, he's like a Maori chameleon. This movie is the first I'd seen him in and he's so convincing he reminds me of how well Jennette Goldstein portrayed Vasquez in Aliens, two best performances of a Chicano by a non Chicano actor lol. Believe it or not, imo Shia Labeouf is also surprisingly good in The Tax Collector.

Ginger

I'd like to recommend "Collateral" - I think you'd like it.

Brandon Scott

Hoping others will back me up on this: A good guy, can't-help-but-empathize-with-him Denzel Character....:: John Q (!!!100%!!!)

Woody G

Man on Fire might have my favourite Denzel, and my favourite Dakota Fanning. Maybe American Gangster

mpd

As long as it wasn't in a back alley somewhere

Robert C

Amazing Denzel... Man On Fire !!!!

faiszal

Check out Deja Vu with Denzel and Val Kilmer, directed by Tony Scott.

Jesus F Christ

Adding to the suggestion to watch Glory.

Mati D.

Fences is a really good movie with him, also a really heavy one. Won 59 awards of 121 nominations

D. Kennedy

I would love for someone to react to Fences, no one has reacted to that movie.

Martin Nicholls

K firstly Hoyt gets away clean - the other guys on the crew assume the Russians did it (because they did), they didn't know what went down. No reason for them to come after him - the fun question is what he did with the money. Secondly, yep, insane. I think this is actually the perfect role for Denzel, something about it just works, like you said, because he's so charismatic. Actually Denzel plays likeable-unlikeable anti-heroes all the time, it's the thing he's known for really. Book of Eli and Roman J. Israel are about all you have left on the unreasonably likeable front, though there's some complexity to that. More examples of Denzel in roles like this, American Gangster, Man on Fire. Now you've seen this you can see Ride Along - don't ask why but it's funny, you'll like it. A "if you liked this you'll like that" movie again not with Denzel though but written/directed by David Ayer: 'End of Watch'; trust me.

JayF

Came here to suggest Glory as well. It's the first thing I saw Denzel in and his performance was very noteworthy.

George, If you were with me, you wouldn't be here in this strip club shaking it for dollar bills!

🖤I can't wait for y'alls reaction to "Training Day 2: You're In For A World of Hoyt" ... While I wish that was a movie, I'm just going to throw out a random suggestion and recommend reacting to "The Prestige." Christopher Nolan film starring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as rival magicians just riding the revenge train for over two hours. Lots of layers to the movie too. Also, I see a lot of recs for Glory. CRAZY good movie. So I second, third, and forth that one too.

Paul G

While the story itself is not true Denzel Washington based the character of Alonzo on a real LAPD detective named Rafael Perez. Perez was involved in some seriously questionable stuff and was even suspected of playing a role in the murder of Notorious B.I.G.

Matthew s

Glory is a great movie about the American Civil War, Denzel isn’t a purely good character in that one but the acting is superb. He plays a very likable character in Remember the Titans.

Andrew

If you want more Denzel you should watch, Inside Man, Man on Fire, John Q, American Gangster, The Book of Eli, Deja Vu, The Manchurian Candidate, Remember the Titans.

Kyle Baker

important information here is that they've both not seen Breaking Bad

Logan Kerlee

Very happy that you both reacted to this! I've been wanting this for a good bit now. :) Denzel did a fantastic job playing this role! Ethan Hawke did a great job as well. A lot of Denzel's are great because he's in it. There's a good bit of movies that I can recommend with him. One off the top of my head that was released a few years after this is American Gangster. That one's really dark, like this one here. If you'd like a happy Denzel then instead I would recommend Remember The Titans. It's a quality movie that also shows Denzel's acting ability while being very entertaining.

Alex Ch

Collateral. Tom Cruise. Fun reaction.

MattN

unstoppable is rarely mentioned but one of my fav Denzel movies!

Hamesque

I think this Denzel fellow may have a future in the motion picture business.

Hamesque

Collateral was Jamie Fox, but still an excellent movie, and Tom Cruise's 2nd best performance after Tropic Thunder.

Carlos Hurtado

Man on Fire is another great denzel film

Hal451

Crimson Tide is a fantastic movie with Denzel and Gene Hackman. Inside Man is another one that I would recommend. Although his character is a bit more... gray in that one :)

david moreland

Especially if you want Denzel playing a character that is both scary but a definite good guy.

MattN

Training Day isn't a true story however... it is inspired by both a big scandal involving a anti-gang LAPD unit called CRASH and LASD gangs within the department. and with regards to Denzel being a very charismatic hero Crimson Tide as an amazing Denzel movie! :D

Young Blood Priest

Inside Man and Flight are two more good Denzel films. They aren’t the sugar you were asking for, George but Denzel doesn’t do one dimensional characters. Denzel did another movie with Eva Mendez, who played his side chick in Training Day, called Out of Time. A movie I think is a fun watch but I’m starting to think I’m the only one that’s seen it.

Lana Gorgeous

Glory........ he was a guy in pain who became a really good guy. He also won his first academy award. Malcolm X, he wasn't a good guy or bad guy, but an amazing performance!

joejud1017

The Book of Eli is a hero type of movie that falls in line with the type of movies you guys like. In Remember the Titans he was excellent. Glory 1987 was the first movie he was nominated for an academy award and one of my favorite films.

Joe Mallard

Remember the Titans is my favorite Denzel movie.

FranciscoGios

You guys know that Roger telling the Snail story was actually Jake. Alonzo broke Jake’s shell by hiring gangsters to kill him, after he survived that, he went back to Alonzo’s house and told him “what da fucK is your problem”.

FranciscoGios

Crimson Tide (good Denzel) Book of Eli. American Gangster (bad Denzel).

Ana Fox

Fantastic you watched this!!! I watched this and years later when I went to rewatch I was convinced Ethan Hawke was going to be the bad guy lmao so I was impacted all over again. I haven't watched Fences but really want to. I love Philadelphia, The Bone Collector, Man on Fire, Déjà Vu,... there's so many I haven't watched though. Anything will do!

e4tless

It ain’t what you know, It’s what you can see prove!”

D Andrew

Crimson Tide is a masterclass of back and forth acting between Denzel and Gene, also has a stacked cast, great movie

Tomcats62

Here are some 2008 and earlier Denzel movies that are great. Out of Time, Crimson Tide, De ja Vu, American Gangster, Remember the Titans, John Q, Courage Under Fire, Devil in a Blue Dress

Bennett Holleman

The Mighty Quinn is a great early Denzel movie where he plays a very honest and also charismatic cop.

sarCC

Crimson Tide, Man On Fire, and Malcolm X are great Denzel movies.

Tony Han

Early Denzel and American history: Glory. With Morgan freeman, Andre braugher, Matthew Broderick and Cary elwes.

benjamin hall

Denzel play's a bad guy in American Gangster that is pretty good :)

JayF

Earlier I named Glory as his breakout role but I had my timeline mixed up. Cry Freedom came out before Glory. It's a tough watch emotionally but a very good movie. He also plays a good man in it.

AgentFalcon

Crimson Tide (1995) is the best for young, good guy Denzel. His role in that is really kind of like Ethan Hawke's in Training Day now that I think of it. Would make for a fun follow-up to compare.

Martin Nicholls

Mandela Effect I thought they'd done Crimson Tide then I realised it's the nonsense that is Hunt for Red October they'd actually done. As a fan of the Prophet Tom Clancy that movie just offends me. Yeah Crimson Tide is a decent shout, it's flawed, but decent - I disagree about the Ethan Hawke thing though; you don't get to be the XO of an SSBN by being green, he's a fairly senior and trusted officer in the US military and he's been around the block - he doesn't have combat experience but back in that era very few officers would have, EH in Training Day absolutely hasn't but learns fast.

Christopher

This is loosely based on a dirty cop named Rafael Perez. Part of the Rampart Scandal in the late 1990s. The scandal concerned police misconduct connected to the L.A.P.D.'s anti-gang unit, CRASH (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums) The Tv show the Sheld also browed inspiration from it

Naturekitty5309

Here are some good DW pics: Richochet, Fallen, Now you see me, Malcolm X, out of time? (With Eva Mendez. May have the title wrong) Philadelphia, Glory, American Gangster, and there is a great sci-fi movie with Russel Crowe, just can't remember the name. My favorite actor...can ya tell 😀

John

Here are some young/heroic Denzel options for George and Simone: Glory, Pelican Brief, Crimson Tide, Fallen, The Siege, Remember the Titans, those are all before 2001. He has other great movies but if you are looking for younger and less Anti-hero/Villian here are places to start

David Crabtree

Remember the Titans! Denzel at his inspirartional best! And just a great movie overall!

redddfer44

Okay that pun made me groan so hard that my spine split in two. Vertically.

redddfer44

Ooh, ooh, I can nerd out a bit! I'm nowhere NEAR well-versed enough on the topic, but technically, most modern movies are montages! I've heard Sergei Eisenstein (of "Battleship Potemkin" fame) credited for being the most influential theorist of the montage. To convey the idea, a quote from wikipedia: "Montage theory, in its rudimentary form, asserts that a series of connected images allows for complex ideas to be extracted from a sequence and, when strung together, constitute the entirety of a film's ideological and intellectual power. In other words, the editing of shots rather than the content of the shot alone constitutes the force of a film. Many directors still believe that montage is what defines cinema against other specific media." This is an contrast to film-making styles where they try to show most of what happens in a scene, like you'd watch filmed theater. Through montage, the filmmaker can control the content and the pacing. Apparently the preferred style of montages was still a consistent continuity until Jean-Luc Godard came along and pulled off stuff where edits skipped a bit forward in time. In Hollywood, Bonnie & Clyde (1967) took inspiration from Godard and other French New Wave cinema and brought the style to Hollywood. So, without Eisenstein and Godard, we wouldn't have a Rocky training sequence or Arnie gearing up in Commando.

redddfer44

Oh, and movie recommendations. For likable more mature Denzel, "Unstoppable" is surprisingly good. I don't know how popular it'd be as a reaction, however. For Oscar-awarded movies about cops in the moral grey area, check out The French Connection, L. A. Confidential. For a morally complex detective story, Chinatown.

Jonas Buckner

Denzel is incredible and likeable in both Mississippi Masala and John Q. Please, please, please watch John Q. I would be okay if this became the Denzel channel for a while.

Odd Thomas

Denzel is great as always but honestly this film does nothing for me. Man on Fire is THE Denzel movie you need to see.

DeAndrew Greene

John Q or Deja Vu are really good Denzel movies. Out of Time is an underrated one too that also features Eva Mendez.

Truth

Man on Fire is a Must

Ben Schwartz

Do you guys EQ the final sound for the video? Seems like Simone comes through a whole lot louder than George in this... but I realize the upload is from 2023, maybe you all have that figured out now?
