Adam Wetstein

Considered the worst of Ed Woods bad movies

redddfer44

YASSS! My instincts were correct! I was hoping for Cinecringe stuff today!

nossieboy

omg you did this. Saw this with Robot Monster. It's also worth a watch.

redddfer44

AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS NOW THE OLDEST MOVIE YOU'VE WATCHED ON THE CHANNEL.

Den

Now all that's needed is Miami Connection and Samurai Cop.

Young Blood Priest

I’ve never heard of this movie but I just had surgery and I needed something to take my mind off of the pain. Cinebinge to the rescue. 👍🏿 Bella Lugosi was the most iconic Dracula for decades before Christopher Lee came along. But for my money, Bella’s old school Universal Studio’s creepy portrayal is my fave.

redddfer44

While George has seen Samurai Cop, I still wanna see him watch it a second time. And Simone. The Room, too, because I'm sure Simone could pull off a hilarious Tommy Wiseau impression.

JayF

Well now you're kind of obligated to watch Ed Wood at some point. It's about the man who made this movie and stars Johnny Depp. Edit - Sorry to hear about the ANP reaction being removed but this is why I now DL all movie reactions from my patrons so even if they get nuked I still have access to them. I've watched too many channels get take downs.

Jay Davis

Being a huge MST3K nerd back in the day (okay and today too), I'm all for these.

Chris H.

Bela Lugosi's (the original Dracula from the 1931 Universal movie and star of multiple Universal monster films later on) final film -- he died during production and was replaced by Ed Wood's chiropractor. Who looked nothing like Lugosi and hid his face behind a cape.

Young Blood Priest

Lugosi also did the cape over the face bit in the 30s and 40s.

Onno Smits

I love you guys, but even your presence can't make me watch bad movies. I feel there's a reason CineCringe didn't work. But hey, as long as you're having fun! I'll happily wait for the "normal" content. 👍

redddfer44

I love to see you two in such a great mood! And I've said it before, but it's also fun seeing you being critical of a movie.

Amos T Fairchild

Now you have to watch Ed Wood. The film about the producer/director. It's a lot of fun.

Ken Quick

And here is used to (badly) hide the fact that a different actor was used after Lugosi's passing.

Ken Quick

George won't get this, but there's a meme of Captain Kirk scratching his chin with the tip of a phaser, pointing out what a badass he is. My response is always a link to the clip of that detective recklessly gesturing with his pistol, prefaced with "This was his weapons handling safety instructor at the academy."

Sam Fuller

It's not Plan 69 from Outer Space (yes it exists)? Darn.

Kinokind

"Stupid! Stupid!"

Kinokind

You MUST watch Tim Burton's "Ed Wood". It explains what we just watched. It not only stars Jonny Depp, but has Sarah Jessica Parker, Bill Murray and the great Martin Landau. There were many, many great sci-fi films before this: As George noted, the original "Gojira", "The Blob", "The Day the Earth Stood Still", and many others. No, Ed Wood was just a bad writer and director. Vampira was a former horror movie host, Tor Johnson was a professional wrestler, and, as has been said, the Great Bela Lugosi (the one real actor in the film) died before production and appears only in clips as "The Old Man".

Martin

So you guys are doing a “MST3000” with these types of movies? I can dig it.

Viktor M

Wow, one of your best reactions. I would love to see more crapy movies like troll (1+2), the stuff, samurai cop and so on :)

Persnickity

The version I found was in color. Turns out the aliens wear metallic purple shirts with gold colored accents.

Daniel Goldberg

This movie is appreciated by many as the worst movie ever made, enjoyed for how truly terrible it is. I so liked your reaction to it and will be here for more like this. Simone’s comment about leaning into it if you’re making a bad movie got me thinking that you two should react to Cocaine Bear. They clearly knew that they were making a bad movie and the result is wildly entertaining.

punterjoe

The twisted charm of Ed Wood is that he was UTTERLY sincere - and total lack of any conventional definition of talent. The Tim Burton film is a loving, but eyes-open biopic. His closest competition today would probably be Tommy Wiseau or Neil Breen. Also keep in mind that Plan 9 is the movie the Seinfeld gang are going to see in the classic Chinese Restaurant episode.

punterjoe

If you're looking for more jaw-dropping wtf movies.... have you seen Zardos? (with Sean bleeping Connery!)

Logan Kerlee

lmao, I'm watching this movie in color. The color of their shirts was purple! lol, this movie is an experience.

Carl Noraas

You HAVE to watch Ed Wood ASAP, while this movie is still fresh in your mind!

JediLounger

Another vote for Ed Wood (1994) from Tim Burton. Also Mars Attacks (1996), also by Tim Burton, which riffs A WHOLE LOT on Plan 9.

Monica Alarcon

Finished... I think this is the third time I've watched this movie and yeah, watching with you guys makes it tolerable... and Watching Ed Wood will answer all of your questions...

Cliff Adams

I saw the film in a theater before it was sold to TV in the early '60s. I was eight years old. Bunny Breckinridge was a friend of my grandmother and he wanted his friends to see him in the movie. In real life, Bunny was far more fabulously gay than The Ruler (the alien with the axe on his chest). He adored transvestite Ed Wood. Nearly all the actors were buddies with Wood... even the great Bela Lugosi. Bunny laughed at how many of the "day for night" scenes were both shot and developed incorrectly and look like daylight, because Wood did not care to do things correctly... just to do them quickly. This is a kid (Wood) who loves making movies making another one.

Jared Winn

Chris Parnell does voice Jerry on Rick and Morty but I believe you meant Joe Lo Truglio from B99. That’s who the deputy reminds me of.

Michael Kemmet

The Room. Especially if one of you has watched it and the other hasn't. That needs to be a rite of passage for all reaction channels. :D Once it's been watched once, it becomes the textbook definition of schadenfreude.

Hal451

Yeah, you guys absolutely have to watch Ed Wood now!

Gary Fixler

I think the reason kissing is so bad in these old films is that there was nothing to learn from. If you wanted to see two people kiss, you had to go to an X-rated film, but only adults could do that, and the people in the film grew up under the same restriction.

droodly

I agree with others and feel like you two should watch Tim Burton's "Ed Wood" while this is fresh in your minds.

Sheriff Uchiha

I don't think that's it. I think most people can work out how to kiss on their own. I think that it was just too lewd back in the day to actually kiss on screen. There was real kissing behind closed doors and "stage" kissing for movies and theatre.

Gary Fixler

Oh, wow, I did think he looked like Chris Parnell, and wasn't confusing him, but Joe is even closer!

Opti_Frog

I have to say, Plan 9 is far from the worst movie ever made, from an entertainment perspective. Clearly, $60.000 was not enough to make the epic they reached for, and there is very little talent in front of or behind the camera, but i've watched this movie countless times because it's so darn charming and entertaining. Knowing the backstory (and Watching Tim Burton's Ed Wood) makes the experience even better.

redddfer44

They're not the original colors, though. It was a project by Legend Films who also added stuff digitally into the film in the 00s.

So I hadn't seen this since an arthouse showing in the 90s... waited till I could enjoy a gummy, and was ready to tap at like 39min when George mentions how hard it's gonna be to edit... (figured I knew the ending xD ) But a couple mins later Simone stumbled upon the Ed Wood connection... so I had to see if there was follow-through, and that didn't happen until the hour mark, and from there on it was kinda a blast (probably just the timing)... Anyway, it was great to see you pivot cinecringe into something like this, always liked the concept. all here for the Ed Wood movie watch though... p.s. I watched along with a colorized version... they chose purple for the alien costumes.... :)

Steve H

For nastalgia sake, I watch this movie; Bella Legosi, the (original Count Dracula), died in this movie, and the movie was filmed the rest of the way with a stand in for Legosi, who used a cloak to conceal it. That's the reason for the cloaked creature. This is the first time I finished this movie, only because you stayed till the end.

redddfer44

This had me intrigued about some notorious bad movies, so I watched "Manos: The Hands of Fate". My take: not enough goofy badness for a good reaction. It's very, very bad, but in a dull and frustrating way, imo.

Jade Richardson

Being a big MST3K fan, I love this! Would enjoy seeing you watching more really bad movies. You guys should watch “The Room” from Tommy Wiseau! How about a bad movie poll?🤔

Steve H

The Actor making the "elbow up" gesture was an substitute for Bella Lagosi, who had just died in real life, yet the actor was unlike the actor he was replacing, thus the actor shielded his face.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Funny y’all mention mention if the concept of zombies existed in movies yet, they had but it was just a few movies from the 30s and 40s (“White Zombie” being the first if I remember correctly?) that were based on Haitian folklore. Our popular conception came from George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” and “Dawn of the Dead” in 1968 and ‘78 respectively. Really hope you get to the Romero flicks at some point!
