I own a pair of Patrick Ewing shoes that are Ace Ventura themed. They Have EINHORN and FINKLE on on the back of the shoes and hawaiian print all over them. I love them but sadly this movie does not hold up when it comes to acceptance of certain communities and that’s a bummer. I prefer ACE 2.

Hey guys! I watched the full reaction w/ u guys and loved every second of it. It has to be about 30-40 times I've seen this. This movie is so funny. I saw it in theatres and can't stop laughing every time I watch it! Great reaction. This is my favorite Jim Carrey movie and then Bruce Almighty and probably Liar Liar are tied for 2nd. "The Pen is Blue, It's Goooood!" <3 u guys!

About the mission impossible music: in 1994 it was still just a tv show and licensing a tv show theme from decades earlier was super easy and cheap. Way cheaper if they license the music but record it themselves too. This was the film that really made Jim pop off along with Dumb and Dumber. In fact the song was probably less than Jim’s salary.

According to Google, bitch became an insult way back in the 15th century. Ace Ventura isn't an incompetent hero, he's just supremely dedicated. Ace Ventura also became a cartoon, yeah. It ran for three seasons on Nickelodeon, believe it or not! I've never watched an episode but I'll totally check it out sometime now that I know about it. :) lmao, that's what people were complaining about, yeah. The 90's were not a very sensitive time and many people don't find this funny because of all of that. I'm so happy that you guys watched this! xD Perfect movie for my birthday! Had so much fun, watching. As far as top comedies with Jim Carrey go this one's at or near the top. I love how over the top her is in this! Super enjoyed this watchalong! Easily will be my favorite reaction that I'm watching today. :) You both are the best!

A classic, even if certain aspects haven't aged well (and were kinda cringe even in '94). The sequel was garbage and until Sonic 2, Jim Carrey swore off doing sequels.

Ace also says "Holy shitballs!" Apart from Simone, that's the only place I've heard it. When this movie came out, I watched it all the time. *I* stood in front of the mirror doing faces. Then I just grew out of my Jim Carrey phase and had no desire to watch any of his films until recently. The good parts of this film were hilarious and reminded me of where I'd seen so many actors for the first time. I have to admit I lost it at "Courtney 'Her last name is not funny' Cox" :D

BTW, this reaction reminded me of Martin Scorsese's "Cape Fear". If you haven't seen it, George, it's one of those "oh this is what that Simpsons thing was about!" movies. Moreso than most, I'd say.

The Crying Game song is used because the movie of that name came out two years before and it was about a woman who turned out to be a man. The "I have exorcised the demons" line is from Poltergeist, which is a brilliant horror movie produced by Spielberg. "There's just one more thing" is from Columbo. The detective would say this right at the end when revealing he knew who the killer was. Apparently Carrey based the character on a bird, hence the parrot-like hair style and jerky movements, head bobbing etc

I think the main joke indeed is that Ace is a cartoon character in a real world where nobody else isn't. Perfect role for Jim Carrey.

A film doesn't come out right after it's done filming so Feb 94' means filming ended in early 93' likely assuming no delays of any kind. This has nothing to do with Friends.

This wasn't Cox's first hit movie by the way. There was Masters of the Universe (the He-Man movie) and she was in Cocoon: The Return with Steve Guttenberg (an underrated sequel imo)

I think the players were from the 1993 Miami team roster(not sure I might be wrong) but Finkle was a made up player to make the story more interesting. And I found out that the score for the ‘85 Super Bowl was San Francisco-38 and Miami-16; and kicker’s name was Von Shamann not that Finkle guy. Also The Cable Guy along with Simone’s Liar Liar are my top Jim Carrey favorites.

loved this movie back in the day. probably been 10 years since i last watched it. The 2nd is great too, just the first few minutes are great(especially if you watch Cliffhanger staring Stallone first) and it has the best slinky scene in movie history. but what ever you do do not watch any of the Ace Ventura Jr. movie...it will melt your brain. oh and there was a reference to this movie in vanilla WOW, there was a NPC named Finkle Einhorn, he was renamed back during the Blizz controversy in 21.

funny trivia the guy playing the rich party thrower confessed to drinking Madonna's urine out of the shoe so yeah weird guy but is in more films than most people would belief both good and bad. Including the worst Dracula film ever Dracula 3000. Sorry if this type of trivia is not allowed here. If so I refrain from sharing in the future but the actor while weird is a fascinating person who has both a very interesting life and a very interesting career.

and as I trans-female I do still enjoy this movie... yes that ray Finkle revelation is transphobic, Jim Carrey has since apologized for that part of the story. But the film is still fun and funny, while that does not make the transphobia okay it is not enough to ruin the film as a whole.

In my personal opinion it is a bit rough but you gotta think of it like this, Sean Young's Character isn't Transgender, they are wearing a disguise for the ultimate goal of what they did. Sean Young is gold in this movie. Her crazy acting at the end, the twitching and stuff is great.

Well, in the 1990s the mainstream culture didn't have any concept of there being a difference between a crossdresser and a transgender person. But either way it leaves the problem where the "joke" the movie makes is that: men will throw up in disgust, have a mental breakdown and develop an instant oral fixation if they find out someone they thought were an attractive woman has a penis.

One thing you have to hand to Finkle, he's not just very successfully disguising himself as a woman every day (yeah yeah), but he's living under the assumed identity of a missing hiker he probably killed, and in that disguise managed to become the chief of police of the ninth largest city in the US, while apparently avoiding any smell of scandal despite seducing every guy in sight. With some rewrites from this century, I'd watch a movie showing Finkle's revenge plot from his point of view.
