In case no one has suggested it before, you should definitely watch Top Secret! (1984)

MacGuffinStuff

There are so many hilarious bits in this, but one of my favorite jokes has to be Sheen meeting Sheen on the river, it spoofs FFC's Apocalypse Now, and two Oliver Stone movies, Platoon and Wall Street. Don't get me wrong, those are all great movies, but the joke is supermetafunny. That and the Energizer Bunny getting wasted. I saw, I don't know if it was a deleted scene or just for the behind the scenes extra features, but, a scene of Martin Sheen looking at photos of Charlie (aka Carlos Estévez), noting that he looks "possibly Hispanic" lol Major League is another Charlie Sheen comedy you guys gotta watch. Seeing him beefed up in this reminded me that he said in an interview that he took PEDs when he was doing Major League, and training like a pitcher, he supposedly got his fastball up to almost 90 mph, which is not spectacular for the majors, but it is decent. "They've tied my shoe laces together."

To be fair, because of the way velocity used to be measured, a 90 mph in 1989 would be the equivalent of a mid 90s fastball today, which is just about major league average.

Mitchell Bowker

There is quite a few spoof movies you can watch as part of a CineCringe episode, like Disaster Movie or Date Movie.

Dioskur

btw if you wondered about the opening, thats Rambo 3

Einherj

For peak Rowan Atkinson I suggest the Blackadder series. Just start from the 2nd season. It's a long story but they kinda botched the first. Each season is its own setting with different characters and no continuity so you don't need to watch the first anyway. UHF (1989) and Wet Hot American Summer (2001) are both great spoof movies.

redddfer44

I sound like a broken record at this point, but if you want to do more spoof movies, please watch Casablanca.

redddfer44

"That's a motherfucking Casablanca reference!" was the late 20th century version of "Is that a motherfucking JoJo reference?!".

♪ WE LOVE THE BEAN ♫

Our Patrons thought we were a myth. Well... They were MYTH taken.

🖤George "I feel like I know someone who makes terrible analogies" then Simone "It's not me is it?" then George never answering LOLLLLLL ahhh... anyway, since I'm here may as well throw a few movie recs in the pool. No theme here. None whatsoever... -Glory and/or Blood Diamond (Same director of The Last Samurai) -Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) -Beetlejuice? Have yall seen Beetlejuice? If not I think you'd like Beetlejuice. -Cable Guy (Jim Carrey's dark comedy in his era of zany comedies) And if you guys are liking these spoof movies there's always -Scary Movie -Not Another Teen Movie. With both, even if you haven't seen every 90s teen movie or horror movie they're based on, most of the jokes will still land because you definitely still know most of the movie tropes used by horror and 90's teen movies LOL

Oh god no! I wouldn't wish them on my worse enemy... Those are the movies that killed the spoof genre...

Gary Fixler

Unimportant missed references... The guy stapling insulation @16:25 (right after the guy fell in the well) is Bob Villa, who hosted the home improvement show This Old House from 1979 to 1989, and then a bunch of other things, like Sears commercials.

Ricardo Alanis

The game show bit toward the end was American Gladiators from the late 80s/early 90s. Kind of like American Ninja Warrior but also with recurring gladiator opponents. Had a brief revival not long ago but not as good as the original.

Haye Zeus

Top Secret is in my opinion the best spoof movie

Shonnicus

The best meta scene was Charlie Sheen doing his inner monologue from Platoon, Great Movie btw and his father Martin Sheen doing his inner monologue from Apocalypse Now and then meeting and saying "I loved you in Wall Street" which both they starred.

JayF

The limo scene was a spoof of a scene in the Kevin Costner movie "No Way Out" which I have recommended here. Also, I've seen a few others mention again but if you want another great spoof movie TOP SECRET. You will love it.

Michael Bourke

Lloyd Bridges narrating over the diving scene was a reference to a TV show he did called Sea Hunt.

Michael Bourke

There are some really good spoof movies that parody genres rather than specific movies. Highly recommend Johnny Dangerously ( with Michael Keaton ), Top Secret ( with Val Kilmer ) What we do in the shadows ( the movie, with Taika Waititi ) and Murder by death ( with an amazing all star cast ).

Gary Fixler

I don't know the specific origin of the "Answer to tonight's scrambled movie title: T-2" bit in the credits, but I think the joke is that the only scrambling would be "2-T", so it would be obvious to what movie the puzzle referred.

Gary Fixler

Anatomorphex was in the credits (special effects), spelled as "A.nat.o.mor.phex" for some reason. Here's the page on the octopus from the movie (that ended up on Ramada's head) - https://www.anatomorphex.com/octopus - and for anyone bored, it's fun to look through the hundreds of things they've done in the categories on the left.

“I know what an analogy is. It’s like a thought with another thought’s hat on.”

JayF

Just in case these two haven't been mentioned - Gabriela Sabatini was a tennis player. She is very pretty. The "it keeps going and going" rabbit with the drum is the Energizer batter;y rabbit. Those commercials ran for forever. Here's a Star Wars themed one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxafIhYFOr0

So many Casablanca references you missed. Casablanca is well worth watching. It’s a bit like The Godfather where it’s reputation as a classic makes you think it’s going to be some serious work of “art” and then you watch it and realise it’s pure entertainment. One reason Hot Shots Part Deux is better than the first is it works as a movie even if you haven’t seen all (or any) of the source material. Hot Shots is really dependent on Top Gun.

Dee Aitch
>>110355769

Yeah, I thought it was just a "classic love story" but was very surprised to find out how smart and funny the dialogue was.

Chase Schleich

Can you make a new cinenbun's t-shirt where both buns are reaching out to flip a bean?

Chase Schleich

Wall Street (1987) is a movie you need to add to the watch list. There's also a sequel from 2010.

Rob

The spoof/parody genre used to be such a good genre before they went from having a main plot based on a movie or idea and then adding little references to other things. Now it's just a case of how many things can we reference in an hour and a half. For some other spoofs/parodies that I enjoy and would suggest: Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995) - Mel Brooks spoof of Dracula, so long as you know that he's a vampire, you know enough although it would be worth watching Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) first. Scary Movie (2000) - Spoof mainly of Scream (1996). I would also suggest watching Halloween (1978) & Friday the 13th (1980), both before Scream Not Another Teen Movie (2001) - One of my favourites. Spoof mainly of She's All That (1999). I would also suggest watching 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) & Cruel Intentions (1999) first Stay Tuned (1992) - Not a spoof of a perticular movie, but has a lot of references to tv shows, movies, and adverts (and was in a list of spoofs)

Chase Schleich

When did you guys watch Rambo 2? First Blood is on here, but I've never seen a reaction to Part 2.

Joe Mallard

Rambo 3 is the one you gotta watch to get the references.

Jomero

I've always been sad and disappointed that they didn't do at least one "sit/step on the chihuahua" joke.

redddfer44
>>110355769

Yeah, Casablanca is definitely like that. Hitchcock, too. They're nowadays talked about as one of the greatest movies ever made, but it's not because they're difficult and take a lot of brain power to watch. Hell, Hitchcock was criticized for making low brow trashy entertainment until the French New Wave started talking about him as an artist.

redddfer44

They discussed it with Diegesis. The video is called "Rambo First Blood Part II vs Commando | Twin Movies with Diegesis".

Tanx

the wrapping the hands and dipping them in glass(sprinkles and gummy bears) was from a Jean Claude Van Damme movie "Kickboxer" where they dunked their hands in broken glass before fighting in the big showdown scene. the president puking on the Japanese Prime Minister at dinner was a rib on George Bush Sr. because he threw up during a big dinner with the Prime Minister of Japan. yes the energizer bunny was very hated and they just kept making more and more of the commercials with him. The guy being held under water on the gurney was saying "Ohhh Mister Geppetto." was a reference to the old animated Disney Pinocchio movie when Pinocchio was walking under water calling out for his dad. The scene with the two women doing the game show fighting thing was a rip on American Gladiators. Was a game show where random everyday men and women went up against "gladiators" that were basically just big muscled body builders in crazy obstacle course/arena matches. was a pretty fun show. the gladiators all had 90s cool nicknames like Nitro, Storm, Thunder and Viper. they shot tennis balls and stuff out of big air cannons and stuff as they ran obstacles. probably plenty of videos out there of it.

Yair Peñaloza Licona

After this, I hope and recommend that you watch "Scary Movie", the first three are very good and very funny.

ExtraBigAssTaco
>>110405598

Unrelated, but also a great movie with Charlie and Martin together is Cadence (1990). In fact, it would be a really interesting one to see a reaction to, as it deals with some pretty heavy stuff in the end.

Amper Sand

Only now I realized Javier Bardem has a cameo, sitting on the left table behind Topper and Ramada in the Flurvian restaurant scene (counter 18:43+) :O I swear is him!
