Please watch the third one asap. You don’t have to post it immediately, but I promise you, there is a reason. Thanks for the entertainment as always.

Odd Thomas

Simone in the last reaction: "I like her, I hope she's in all the sequels" Patreons: :/

Odd Thomas

Brian Cox. The Long Kiss Goodnight. You'll thank me later.

Ballsac McGee

goa's actually a big tourist hub, lots of white people, part goers, hippies, etc.

Rash Bandicoot

Awesome! These movies are a blast! How many are you watching? The original trilogy, the four with Matt Damon, or all five?

redddfer44

Jen Murray did even better in this regard. She was watching the second one and went like, "Yay! She's in this one, too! I love her! And wow, the bad guy has a sniper rifle! I love sniper rifles! I hope we get to see some sniping!"

redddfer44

In the first movie, Bourne only had a flashback of what happened on the ship where he failed the mission. I'd say it makes sense, at least from a movie-logic amnesia perspective, that he'd start regaining more of his memory as time goes by. (FYI, my message contains a Casablanca reference :p .)

Odd Thomas

Joan Allen (Pam) is great in everything. Another good reason to watch Face/Off.

Ballsac McGee

The first movie did have similar style flashbacks with the wombosi stuff

Parabolica

I say this in every Supremacy reaction vid I see - “she’s right next to you” is one of the best lines of the whole series, along with ‘look with what they make you give’ and another line I won’t mention as it’s in the 3rd movie.

Ian Forbes

From a 2023 article (https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/paul-greengrass-explains-his-cinematic-style/), “During a Reddit AMA session, the director admitted that his style is most likely down to the fact that in his early days as a filmmaker, he was making documentaries that employed handheld cameras. “In my 20s, I made documentaries, and I was taught to shoot using zoom lenses, and often shot in places that were dangerous, and you didn’t have time to put the camera on legs. It had to be on your shoulder or in your hand,” Greengrass wrote. He added: “Later, when I started making movies, I learnt to shoot in the classical style with dolly and tracks, etcetera, but I always felt like I was wearing a suit at a wedding. It just wasn’t me. So in my 40s, I went back to shooting movies like I used to shoot documentaries, and that’s when everything seemed to fall into place.” It probably won’t make you like it any more, George (and other less talented filmmakers certainly went on to abuse the technique), but figured getting the rationale for it is helpful.

The first three movies are great. They have almost nothing shared with the books, outside of the a few shared characters and basic premise. The plot of the movies fits the early 2000s far better then Ludlum's cold war thriller plots. TBH, the Bourne Supremacy book plot is pretty insane and has very little to do with the 1st and 3rd book. I think George might enjoy it if only to laugh at some of the absurdity. Doug Liman the director of the 1st movie had such an awful relationship with the studio that they removed him from the sequels, which is why Paul Greengrass directed this one. Greengrass definitely leaned hard into the shaky cam. I think he does a much better job in Ultimatum of toning it down, or at least adding more clarity.

john blake

Loved the dad jokes George!

JayF

Don't sweat it, George. I agree there's far too much shaky cam in this one. Still a good movie but I honestly felt like looking away during the fight scenes because they were so unwatchable.

DM DC

George, I sorta know what you mean. While it doesn't hurt my eyes like it does you, I do find the shaky cam very annoying. It's difficult for me to make out what's really happening. But this story is really really good.

Michael Green

Probably been mentioned before, but, Tony Gilroy's (the writer in the Bourne movies) stuff is generally very good -- Michael Clayton is great and Andor is frankly the best Star Wars has been in years.

Tay Schumaker

Damon is still doing a lot of the stunts, even with the shaky cam you can tell that. It’s not to hide things, as others have pointed out, that’s a stylistic choice from Greengrass

Christoph Plank

the signs are mostly about education but one is about "democratic control over financial markets"? It's like a potpourri of protests. idk, there were only a few signs i could fully make out. EDUCATION IS NOT A PRODUCT!

dieselbeast

The whole Bourne series is effing boring lol I couldn't get past the first ten minutes of the first one, it's too much quantity over quality, I'll wait till Thursday Saturday and Sunday to see what you guys react too

Lou Gallucci

shaky cam's much easier to deal with if you just let it wash over you rather than try to focus too hard on each individual shot. It's all about the peripherals... ;) I don't get motion sick by anything car/boat/plane though so i can see how it'd affect others differently.

Travis

You know what was even more distracting and irritating than the shaky cam? George spending entire scenes talking about the shaky cam.

Tay Schumaker

Agree with this, 2 and 3 are very connected and it’s a great wrap up to the trilogy

Persnickity

I'm with Simone I love funny words. (No shame in a fantastical lexicon!!)

wroot

Watching this again with you i was wondering how he picked the place to meet with Nikki and knew it will be crowded. He saw posters about protest when driving into Berlin! I just caught it after seeing this movie for 5 times now? And not at the scene, but like 15 minutes later :)

MatthewBrown74m

The director Paul Greengrass (no kidding that's his last name is famous for shakie cam especially this and United 93

Martin Nicholls

Problem with fan theories like that is his character in The Rock is SAS, that's not a career progression anybody makes. You go the other way, if at all. Also the whole secret agent thing is nonsense anyways, that's not how MI6 works and it isn't how it has ever worked, at most they recruit people and drive them as case officers; special ops is why the SRR, SAS et al exist. I wouldn't rule out it being the director or the casting director's wet dream or something but.. The shaky cam isn't too bad overall but in some scenes it's just grossly inappropriate - it's supposed to put you on edge somewhat I think, but if you want to do that just short-side it or something. Trying to be experimental (and it really was back then) and it became a meme of itself tbh. I don't usually mind it, you just gotta look at what's on screen rather than the edge of the screen really - but yeah. Also on that comment about read it in the book I'm reasonably sure it's an intentional reference to the fact they're based on books. Oh, also, yeah - I'm pretty sure Greengrass was upset they wouldn't let him make a Bond ;) On George's question about city geography: YES - any time they shoot something in London it is always geographically schizophrenic, even British movies with British crew and writers, the Bond movies always are, the Kingsman movies same - you can go from opposite ends of a megacity driving in a complete opposite direction within one cut, it's annoying; and usually there's absolutely no reason to do it either. I watched one of the Bonds a few years back at the BFI Imax which is a bit of a UK cinema Mecca, people who go there usually are pretty serious about movies and I heard somebody actually say something about it out loud, lol.

wroot

Russian in this movie is very bad :D Well, Matt sounded not bad in some scenes. But Urban and his boss, it is good there were English subtitles :)

wroot

Oh, and i agree that camera work style was awful. I don't get dizzy from this, but i hated this (same as second Craig's Bond movie, Transformers, ugh). Other than that i loved this movie. Very good tie in into first movie. Bad ass scenes with him letting Pam know he is watching.

djKENTO

The movie that made so many people throw up in theaters including my dad.

IncredibleBulk

the bourne oopsie daisy films are good, another good one which is minorly similar is the accountant with ben affleck

sarCC

I was already angry with the first movie dropping the main villain of the book series, but killing off Marie IMMEDIATELY made me so infuriated in the theater. I couldn't believe it. She's a great character in the books, and the second book is divided between him doing cool shit and HER doing cool shit! It was probably my favorite book of the series and I was excited for the movie because I assumed Franka Potente was going to be as much a part of the action as Damon. One of the most frustrating moviegoing experiences of my life.

MatthewBrown74m

Also why does that hotel police chase scene remain me of both hitman contracts and hitman absolution lol

JarHead0351

So you both a Fan of the Bourne series. It is a great series and can't wait until you react to the rest of them...

Gary Fixler

My brain works like Simone's. I'd definitely say something like "watch thingy."

james repka

Doug Liman, who directed the first film, also directed Edge of Tomorrow, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Swingers. I highly recommend one of his early efforts, Go. Brilliant film.

Jacob King

The shaky cam was very much the style of the time. I love that this film ends with an apology, it elevates it from a lot of the standard spy genre stuff. The writer of this and the next Bourne movie, Tony Gilroy, used his Bourne clout to make a legal thriller called Michael Clayton that is excellent and highly recommended. It fits in thematically with a lot of what this channel has been doing recently. Another good thriller set in India with a couple on the run who hide out in Goa is The Wedding Guest starring Dev Patel. Anyone who likes espionage thrillers/romantic road trip movies is going to enjoy it. Goa is absolutely a tourist town.

Squ33ky

Alright Alright already. Get it with carema shake. LOL. Each of these kept getting better and better as they went along. The 1st 3 movies are based off the 80's books by Ludlum and these are the only 3. the 2016 movie) also Bourne Legacy was decent but connected only with couple things. (Things like black briar.) If we did a drinking game on how many times you mention shaky cam I'd be passed out drunk 🥴 🤣 🤪

Thijs van Drenth

Amazing reaction to part two of an awesome trilogy. I actually laughed out loud a couple of times. You two also opened up my eyes to why shaky camera work can be a negative. It has never bothered me and I never would have thought it could make a movie unwatchable for some people. Being entertained and learning something new at the same time, what more could I want in a reaction video!

Jack Burton

For those of us that don't care about shaky cam I appreciate you letting us know every single time you notice the shaky cam.

Chints' Miniature Mistakes

Hello! Indian here. Can confirm Goa is a *very* tourist-y location. Loads of beaches, cheap food and alcohol and unlike a lot of other places in India, White people don't get stared at (as much) and have their personal space violated by people taking pictures. White women especially are victim to this a lot in places like Delhi or Bombay. Even more so in smaller cities.

W T

Honestly, Simone is totally right as far as I am concerned, "the" fight is absolutely legible considering the intense shaky cam. There definitely is a limit, but imho the Bourne lines are still well within reasonable boundaries for what is tolerable. Bad luck for people with any sort of inner ear problems, the day we can fix vestibular well-being is the day VR and sim-racing will full blow up... but you can train yourself too, that is unless you fall within a tiny fraction of all people. It just sucks so much to get there. But still, maybe the picture was way down for George or something, but I think this is the perfect showcase of how to use seemingly confusing filmmaking techniques to favor the general mood and scene while still being proper about showing the important stuff to the audience - these movies (I think) are rated around "teen" in most countries and yet feel so visceral. That takes skill, many directors and crews can't make an R-rating work in their favor, let alone PG or PG-13.

redddfer44

People also perceive things differently, either by habit or some psychological thingamajig that I don't know well enough to talk about. The first time I saw this, I thought the editing was a terrible mess because I, too, was a fan of Hong Kong action movies and other stuff where you can see the choreography. Then I saw the third one and thought it was brilliant; after that the second one clicked, too, and I understood what was going on. I don't know if it was just me seeing it the second time, or being more open-minded, or what, but something changed.

W T

Yeah, and I mean really, really differently on top. My favorite records (Baroness, somewhat shouty prog-sludge with some of my best-liked instrumentation, orchestration, and performances in general, esp. Blue, Red, Y&G) were recommended to me by a friend and I ended up playing at least two records through a series of cranky naps. Thought it sucked so much, but something made me power through after the fact and I ended up with one of my top artists, almost put aside forever because I was tired and hungry. Stuff's weird. "Ironically liking something" should fall under the same entry on tvtropes, I guess. Use idioms of your trade or niche, and you will obsess over them the same way fans would. A hater is just a huge fanboy - except with about twice the amount of knowledge. Either way, you'll learn to appreciate kitschy or stereotypical flourishes and phrases and licks just the same, And why stop there: reactions are such a weird little emotional booster, which I guess is what most people are here for: watching things with friends who have kind of perfected their brand of somewhat knowing when to not talk too much (because that'd clearly suck). Never mind the circlejerk nonsense about allegedly "parasocial" relationships skewing how your life will turn out - nah man, some of us have these circles of cynical friends and we all just sometimes can't with them. Great companionship, worst people to enjoy TV or movies with by a mile and a half. I like sharing this experience with folks who don't spend all their energy on trashing something they barely comprehend, hence this here channel, I guess. I had some cool movies massively enhanced, simply by other reactors' enjoyment. Which might explain why I feel like emotional or "visceral" reactors play well in that space, because it definitely can cue you. A way more subtle laughtrack, if you will. Shared empathy, all that's missing at this point is LSD. Priming and preconceptions is another aspect heavily skewing experiences, imho. Just hearing bad things about a movie might set you up for disappointment. Then again the bad word of mouth might very well overshoot the target so your expectation of "bad" ends up making you enjoy the movie even more, but yeah, I kind of don't like knowing what others already debate heavily. General plot is fine, I'm definitely with the sparse research on this one, hinting at vague plot knowledge enhancing enjoyment, not diminishing it. I'm a huge fan of rewatches too, most of us can't keep track of a story for more than a year, let alone a decade.

Grumpy_Chef

Great reaction from the both of you! Simone, the tower in Berlin is called "The Fernsehturm" or TV Tower. George keep up with the jokes! I can not wait for the third movie reaction. The three are linked pretty close together. The 4th does not have the character Jason Bourne in it and no Matt Damon. The fifth sees the return of Damon/Bourne and I found it equally as good. Keep up the great work, you two are a lot of fun.

Tyler Mckenzie

I got Simone's reference in the intro. Gilmore Girls fan here.

Lars G

One of my favorite thing about the Bourne movies is they generally show him doing the research and a lot of the ground work. His escapes always feel a lot more earned that way. It's also a great example of show don't tell for his character.

Truth

The Bourne trillogy is definitely great but we need you to get back to Mission Impossible also. There's a reason there's so many. Superb Tom Cruise franchise.

Ginger

The protest signs said things like "stupidity for everyone", "education is not a product" and "we are the future" - as far as I could make out. It seemed to be a mix of different protests but mainly education-related. The pink payphones (back when there were payphones ^^) were typical Telekom Payphones, pink is their brand color. Also iconic, albeit even more old fashioned are yellow telephone boxes. If you ever watch "Run Lola Run" (starring someone you might recognise from this film), you'll see a lot of those. "That building!" is the Berliner Fernsehturm or TV tower.

guyincognito

George was in rare form here. I for one enjoyed all of it.

Chase Richards

I really wish you guys hadn't seen the shaky cam comments from the first film. I feel a lot of George's comments were driven from that. It almost seemed like he was spending the whole time looking for it.

Sarah

OMG George, do you play Eve?

Logan Kerlee

Really enjoyed watching this with you both! I first watched each of these in theaters with an old, old friend named Logan. He was an awesome dude who didn't mind taking a 12 year old with him, even though I was in a wheelchair. Maaaaan.. memories. :) Good vibes and all that. Hope everyone's doing well! Also, what the hell George?! xD The Alliance will be after you if you don't keep that down. :P

Steve Arnold

I loved how Simone was mesmerized by the TV-Tower „Alex“ on Alexanderplatz. There is a restaurant in there which offers quite a view over Berlin. The protest depicted in the movie was supposed to be about better education. Can‘t wait to see your reaction to Bourne Ultimatum. Looking forward to it.

Steve H

It was great putting Bourne in a taxi cab, it was the only way I could keep tr track

David RedEagle

It takes two would be so much fun to watch you two play. Its designed for coop and its so much fun.

samuel Jakob

I will never understand why George hated the shaky cam in hunger games so much, here again " they were just walking over grass" they were running through the jungle lol. I usually dont have this with him, except maybe for expanse, but it seems like a hate to hate it thing, and if it really just bothers u as much, dont mention it all the time, I think it ruins alot for Simone, and for people like me, who arent really bothered by it. I still enjoyed the reaction quite a bit tho.

Brad Lowry

To George's question about "Which foreign language is scariest when shouted at you?" (approx), I thought you all would enjoy this clip with Mila Kunis on The Graham Norton Show about growing up speaking Russian. Specifically, near the end she talks about having a loving phone conversation with her Dad and friends overhearing asking if everything is okay. (I'll post the link separately in case it's not allowed, but what I've said already is sufficient for a YouTube search...)

Brad Lowry

When both Simone and George were loving Joan Allen's character, I thought of the parallel with what you guys said about Tommy Lee Jones's character in The Fugitive, that he wasn't a "bad guy" exactly, but a high character antagonist. I think you'd agree that Pamela Landy served the same function here. She is great!
