Besides it being a joke on the shonen-type story of the hero that grows by being challenged by greater and greater opponents, the story is realy clever. Half of the story in these mangas is to try to make us believe that THIS time the hero might realy lose, but we all know he wont. By ignoring that part of the story, OPM can use time to show other stuff. I think it was a great idea to try that.

So throwing out a non-animated show, but one I think you should check out if you've never seen it: Veronica Mars. The original run only lasted three seasons, and then there was a crowd-funded movie, and then a short fourth season on Amazon. If you've never seen it, it's a modern day noir with Kristen Bell as a teenage private detective, and it's incredibly witty, clever, hilarious, emotional, all wrapped inside some great, twisty, serialized mystery stories. I genuinely believe you guys would both adore it.

A great tv series to react to would be Deadwood. Forces the viewer to react in both emotional and cerebral ways to the way society affects the individual like nothing else except The Wire.

It’s a comedy. Analysis is pointless🤣 The powers and rules don’t matter so much. The joke is that saitama wins while there’s a lot of serious anime stuff happening in the background. That’s the gag🤣 and I love it.
