Great action movie but can be a tough watch in parts as it's about human trafficking.

Foodassassin4life

Please can we get From Dusk till Dawn sooner rather than later. It came in 2nd place in a pole before Trainspotting and Blues Brothers but still hasn't been uploaded

Odd Thomas

Decent actioner that spawned a million copycats. Don't bother with the sequels though.

JediLounger

Under normal circumstances I would say skip the sequels, but then while listening to your intro…you guys need to watch them for Cinecringe haha. Edit: so I am pretty sure they are watching the PG-13 version. I’m watching the R/Unrated cut and I keep having to sync it.

Young Blood Priest

There’s no way in hell I’d let my 17 year old (high school) daughter or son travel unsupervised across Europe. That sounds absolutely insane.

Odd Thomas

I'll tell you a GREAT Liam Neeson movie: The Grey. Plane crash & wolves = amazing.

Ph4ZeD

As a person who lives in Paris, I find this film hilarious :D

Dankster

God damn I just checked yesterday whether u had seen it or not yet and was dissappointed to not see it in your posts but here it is. What timing

Generators

Europe for the most part is pretty safe, western Europe even more so. I wouldnt let my 17 year old go alone on the basis that they suck with money and would waste all of my money lol.

Spacedone

I kinda like that they don't hide the ugliness of what the movie is about but they also don't do much more than imply either. It implies what will happen to his daughter, via the other victims shown in the movie (especially her friend) to give the film a justified urgency but doesn't go beyond that.

Foodassassin4life

Sorry bro but that movie was a let down. I'm sure you know why most people didn't like it cuz the trailer was decentful about a certain event they show take place and then it didn't. Being vague on purpose in case they actually decide to watch it down the line

Logan Kerlee

lmao, I've always heard it pronounced Fam keh. My younger sister traveled Europe after she graduated from high school in 2008. This was also released in 2008, I believe. If this would've come out a year or two before then my family would've been far more concerned, I think. xD My dad's that stereotypical father figure who's macho protective and can manage all. Thankfully her entire trip went fantastically well! She went with a friend and had a great time. I've never traveled to Europe but I'm totally open to it. I'm a crippled guy so I'd be facing all kinds of difficulty with the travel but I'd manage it. I went to Asia with a friend a few years ago. Went to Thailand and China and had a great time while I was there. This movie's very traumatic for obvious reasons. I don't know anyone's who's been kidnapped or taken but I can only picture how scary it would it be and seeing a movie like this would dredge up all of those feelings. I just learned about the tv show earlier today, as well! I'll be checking it out methinks. If it's any good, I'll report back. As for the sequels - I've watched the first one and I think that it was okay - not amazing but alright. I don't remember any of the details of it though so if it's decided that you'll be watching it I'll be down for it.

MatthewBrown74m

OMG I can't believe you guys never saw taken this was never even talked about WOW

Rash Bandicoot

Haven't seen this since it was released, but I am queuing it up now. This has been a fun movie weekend. Thanks guys!

Astraeos

George that U2 comment made me almost spit out my drink. My man, that was hilarious. Ew, indeed. They do have some okay songs, but yeah.

Paul G

If you want a crazy “it’s so bad it’s good” type of movie that also features Liam Neeson check out “Battleship.” Its based on the classic board game and also stars Rihanna. It’s terrible but in all the right ways!

8bitAndy

After this you should check out Liam Neeson in Love Actually. Dad role with a totally different tone. Much better than Taken 2, imo.

Odd Thomas

You should still watch Man on Fire - pretty much the reason Taken and these kinds of revenge films came back in a big way.

Dioskur

This is one of those movies that are great at what they are ment to do and not get bloated by adding useless stuff. Another one like that is Fury Road. You have to appreciate it for its purity. George I get your point about the fullfilling optimized version of a story. You are right. But: Movies allways follow unlikely stories because thats what makes it fun. Else we'd watch people clean up rooms and go grocery shopping and such. I'd say this is the a perfect example of "pissing of the wrong guy". About the sequels: They are just as good action wise and all. Did you watch the Die Hard sequels? John McClane says "the same shit happens to the same guy over and over" and we all laugh because he's right. Same with Taken 2 and 3: They are very similar and the viewer *could* dislike them because of that, or you could just say "lets enjoy Brian kick some butt some more" and enjoy them. If that's something you can do, they are great!

Odd Thomas

Maggie Grace was in another Luc Besson produced movie called Lockout, which is a fun sci-fi prison-break movie with Guy Pearce where she has a lot more to do. Solid B movie.

Logan Kerlee

Hold the hell up! This movie's only rated PG-13?! I thought it was R! Obviously not for violence or anything related to that but for subject matter and intensity of it all! I'm shocked.

FischerMax98

You can say the whole wish fulfillment thing about any action movie. If someone kills my dog and steals my mustang after my wife just died, I will kick down doors and become a bad ass. Great reaction by the way.

W T

well, that's an incredibly low bar for sure, lol. But yeah, Love Actually is fantastic, just a really, really good movie in so many ways.

Michael Green

George is right, total dad movie.

W T

>Else we'd watch people clean up rooms and go grocery shopping and such. Not spoiling anything for Breaking Bad or BCS, but there are infinite amazing examples, especially in those two shows, of people doing not only super mundane shit, but shit you don't even know has a purpose... and the viewer is on the ride. Just people rifling through things, building tiny gadgets, silently, without exposition or drama, just the most boring thing - and people unanimously consider it some of the best parts of those shows or movies or what-have-you. You just have to do it well, but that's not a new mantra.

W T

I'll see soon enough, but that means we didn't get them reacting to the extended cut? Because Taken most definitely would have been R if they didn't castrate the theatrical release somewhat hard. Not required per se, but sure one of those cases where there is no point in bothering with the original release - it's MPAA shenanigans once again. Edit: Their timestamp says 1:33:something, that's the extended cut I almost guarantee it. Frame rate mismatch more likely, CB are pretty good about getting a suitable cut going. I mean... I think it's pretty hard to get too, apart from amazon, almost nobody really offers non-extended cuts anymore, even when the unrated versions are infinitely worse. Edit 2: Yeah, seems like their version is indeed sped-up ever so slightly. In that case there are tons of YT playback-speed extensions allowing you to adjust in tiny increments, nudge that or just press pause for a second a couple of times, can't say it's a big deal personally.

Dr Ozzy

I would take it that Mills is SOG. Special Operations Group. They do all the dirty work for the CIA.

W T

I mean, that or we can just wait until they are properly done with it according to their schedule - pretty much like always

MasterElodin

Since she is from the Netherlands I'd pronounce it with the "e"s sounding like the first e in "epic" and the "a"s sounding like the first a in "garbage". Thanks for you shirts lol they were perfect examples :D

Truth

Guys i would recommend not always checking Imdb before reactions. It can sometimes be spoilerish. Going in blind is generally the best for reactions. If you know the plot its not really a reaction is it?

Generators

i get the sentiment but i dont agree, i mean they are looking only at the poster and whos in the movie. its not like theyre reading the synopsis. so they are only getting as much info as actual audience did when the movie came out. the poster would be everywhere, and it would say whos in it. hell they actually get less than what actual audiences got when the movie first came out because they arent even watching the trailer.

Strongeyes

Great reaction as always😊 Would love for you two to see Sound of Freedom. I know we cant watch it with you. It is a great movie and shows just how high up human tracking goes

djKENTO

I love you guys but please get US releases of films for reactions. I know you’re not sourcing physical copies as you’ve explained with the OPM reactions. but this thing is so out of sync constantly. I think it’s the frame rate and not the actual edit. It’s very distracting

Pearl Jam

Taken, Taken 2, Taken 3, Taken TV Show… At some point ya have to admit, he’s just a bad father.

tex gransh

the writter luc besson was involved in the fifth element, lion the professional and the transportter, im happy you both finally watched this movie :D im hoping for the raid 2

Our Patrons thought we were a myth. Well... They were MYTH taken.

🖤Possible sequels: Taken 4: The College Years. Prequel. Liam Neeson's fraternity mascot is "taken" by a rival fraternity as a prank. This is when he starts to first hone his set of skills. Stars Timothee Chalamet as Bryan Mills because who cares right? Taken 5: Son of Taken. Liam Neeson realizes he has an 18-year-old son from a previous one-night stand and he wants to get into "the family business" ... the business of finding the taken. Timothee Chalamet plays the son, even though he also played young Bryan Mills because again... who cares right? Taken 6: Generations. When the Mills family gathers for a family reunion and every single member of that family is taken except for Bryan Mills, Bryan Mills Jr (Timothee Chalamet from Take 5), and spoiler alert, Bryan Mills Sr. Thats right ... Liam Neeson's character's dad was also in the CIA, and he also has his own particular set of skills, and they're off to find all 37 members of the Mills family. Bryan Mills Sr. played by Anthony Hopkins. Taken 7: Take Out. The Mills men have retired from the business and open up a restaurant. Bryan Mills Sr dies of suspicious circumstances (honestly Anthony Hopkins didn't want to make another so he agreed to sign on for a small part). This leaves the father/son taken duo to figure out who "took" their fathers life. Spoiler alert, it was the president of the United States. Cuz illuminati reasons and whatnot. These movies always sort of just escalate to the point where it's like "c'mon man....this is ridiculous" Taken 8: Taken Out The Trash. So in this one, Bryan Mills Sr. is long dead, Bryan Mills is retired (Liam Neeson just had enough already) and Bryan Mills jr. (Played by Josh Hutcherson because ol' CT also didn't see the need for ANOTHER Taken movie) is also retired and is working as a garbage man having left the family "Taken" business in disgrace. But Mills jr. isn't down in the dumps for long when he finds redemption in a garbage can via.... A RANSOM NOTE... Someone was taken, and he's going to take out the trash one slime ball at a time until they're found. Taken 9: The Final Take. Aliens or something. Right? yeah that could work. Like... Liam Neeson comes back. They don't even address he had a son. And his dad is already dead so they don't even need to touch that. And his daughter Kim has a little girl of her own. But WHOOPS... abducted by aliens. Also, TWIST...we find out Kim has been dead for 10 years? Yeah sure why not. But turns out the final Taken movie wasn't the final movie. They never are. they made one more! And the events of Taken 9 lead to: Taken X: In Space. Not just in space but takes place in the year 2199 for... reasons. And honestly, Liam Neeson is just there for the paycheck. In fact, during shooting his scenes he reacts to his costars whether they call him Bryan, Mills, or even Liam. That's right, there are scenes in the movie that made it to the theatrical cut where he is referred to and responds to, his own real name and nobody really cared.

JayF

Other Liam Neeson movies you should put on the list - Darkman (1990) Next of Kin (1989) (also has Patrick Swayze, Adam Baldwin, and Bill Paxton) Rob Roy (1995) Michael Collins (1996) The Next Three Days (2010) (he's in it but is not a main character, still a great movie)

Scott McClintock

If anyone uses an editor to merge copies. i found a way to get Davinci resolve to sync with the US Extended Edition (iTunes). I created a 24fps timeline, added the reaction as video 1 but then use the "change clip speed..." dialog to set it to 23.976. (99.90%) from there i dropped in the film in video track 2 with no adjustments to that track. I used the first hard-cut to the party hat at the very beginning to line things up. Random spot-checks didn't show any additional signs of drift.

Buhr

U2 really was a weird choice wasn't it George?

Jacob King

So, there’s a story that Starship Troopers was made after the writer and director had a conversation about how it would be possible to make a Nazi propaganda film and release it and audiences would go along with it and accept it. Obviously Starship Troopers is very deliberate and self aware and has layers of irony and winking at the camera so the audience can be clued in to what is going on. Anyway, ah, Taken sure has some fun action scenes. Spartan (2004) is probably equally problematic and has a similar story but Val Kilmer gives a career best performance. Well worth checking out.

Gary Fixler

Famke Janssen is pronounced ˈfɑmkə ˈjɑnsə(n). Hope that helps!

Gary Fixler

But seriously, I've always heard it as FAHM-kuh JAN-sun, with a j, not a y sound (https://youtu.be/OyHX-ia_OkU?t=7). Quoting the internet: 'Her first name, Famke, means "little girl" in West Frisian, the native language of the Dutch province Friesland.'

Brant

In my opinion, the sequels aren’t really worth watching. The first one was sort of a surprise hit, but the quality really drops off in the second and third movies.

Gary Fixler

George's point at the end of having the perfect plan for a made up thing in your head reminds me of a French idiom, "L'esprit de l'escalier," the spirit of the staircase, when you think of the perfect comeback response too late. I think the idea is that you think of what you should've said as you're heading down the stairs, leaving the party. George's point seemed instead more like wish fulfillment, though, like a dad wrote this to set up a story in which the dad would not only be right in the argument, but then have to go on a masculine rampage to correct the problems that happened after no one listened to him. I also feel that a tiny bit, but still love the movie.

Jeromy M

Once i had this realisation for this film, it then made me realise how many other films have the same problem. Added to it, something bad had to happen to those he loved in order for him to have redemption/be relevant. Still love the movie though.

Logan Nelson

This sounds awesome... I'd love to mix it so the movie is full screen and they are in a little pip box in the bottom left 1/8th of the screen...

david moreland

I have said it many times, and one day it will win the polls but Man On Fire is is such a good movie that runs in this vein. One of Denzel Washington's best roles and totally worth the watch. Edit: Oh and want a show that discovers nearly every way to reuse and keep characters while some how remaining awesome watch 24.

REDR58

Maggie Grace was 23 in this movie. “MoMA” is the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan: https://www.moma.org

Gary Fixler

I was hoping they would just take the boat back home to America, and now Mills would own a mega yacht, and be rich like the stepdad.

Ginger

I absolutely agree about the wish fulfilment interpretation. Also, I don't really remember the second one and only some things about the third one but they get progressively sillier. Definitely one of these cases where the producers never intended a sequel and the surprising success forced the writers to come up with something.

Michael Short

I'm not convinced that the party goers knew what was going on. I think they had that party as a front for the secret auction downstairs. Also, they could make an awesome game out of this movie. lol
